Danny´s mind was racing. He couldn't stand the thought of losing another brother. Not like this. Not at all! "But… but that means he will survive if you can give him a new lung, right? That couldn´t be such a big problem!" Doctor Brook shook his head. "It wouldn´t. But for this we need a donated lung. Which, I am afraid, we don´t have yet. This might sound extreme now, but all we can do is hope that within the next twelve hours, someone with an organ donor card and an intact lung will die… However, there could be another way, but it is risky." Frank got up from his chair. "What way?", he asked. "It would be possible to take a part of the lung of a living person. This donation would have to be voluntarily, and the donator has to have Officer Reagan´s blood type." "I have.", Danny said without hesitating. "Jamie and I are of the same blood type. When it´s possible, I will give him a part of my lung." "Are you sure about this?", the doctor asked. "It is a high risk, for both of you." "I will take it." "Well, Detective, then we have to check you out."
Danny was lying on the hospital bed while the doctors wheeled him through the corridors towards the OP-room. They stopped at the door, where Frank was waiting. He stepped to his son. "You are sure about this?" Danny nodded. "I have never been surer." "You are saving his life with this. You know what… Thank you." "He would do the same for me." The door was opened and the bed was rolled inside the room. There was already another bed where Jamie was lying in. His mouth and nose were covered by a breathing mask already. When his bed was placed next to Jamie´s, Danny took his brother´s hand. Jamie turned his head slowly, caught Danny´s eye and squeezed the hand before lying back again. Slowly, the doctors set both men in narcosis. Danny glanced one last time to his brother before everything went black.
