Chapter 13- Saturday
Chase wakes up and stretches. He opens the door and the morning sun hit him. He walks outside and gets a whiff of the grass and a few birds. He goes back in the puphouse to look at the clock. 6:59am. Chase licks Skye's face intill she woke up.
-Chase: Wake up Skye.
-Skye: (giggles) Stop, i'm up.
Chase waits for Skye to stand up before he left the puphouse with her following.
-Chase: You go left and wake up the pups and i'll go right.
-Skye: Okay.
Chase and Skye circles the Lookout, waking all the pups up, then waited in the elevator for the rest to gather inside. When they were all inside, Marshall pressed the 'up' button and the elevator pulled itself upward.
-Ryder: Uh, hey.
Ryder woke up from Everest licking his face.
-Ryder: I'm up Everest.
-Everest: (smiling) Good. You overslept.
Ryder picks up his pup pad to look at the time. 6:58am.
-Ryder: I guess I did.
Everest walks out of the room while Ryder gets prepared. Changing into his normal outfit and putting his pup pad in his pocket, Ryder leaves his bedroom and heads over to the bathroom.
The pups exit the elevator and sees Everest standing there.
-Marshall: What are you doing Everest?
-Everest: Just waiting for you guys.
Ryder steps out of the bathroom.
-Ryder: I'll get you pups food in a minute.
-Zuma: Do you know what today is Ryder?
-Ryder: Uhh. Ah, it's Saturday!
The pups started to cheer at knowing it was Saturday.
-Ryder: Calm down pups. We'll leave shortly.
-Everest: Uh, what's going on?
The pups and Ryder looks at Everest.
-Ryder: Sorry for not telling you Everest. Every Saturday and Sunday we eat breakfast at Mr. Porter's. And for dinner you all get to pick what you want to eat here.
-Everest: That's pretty cool, but why do you do it?
-Ryder: It's a way to award you all for working the whole week.
-Everest: That is pretty nice of you.
-Ryder: Well, it's the least I can do to pups that save lives.
-Everest: Wait. Mr. Porter's is open Sunday?
-Ryder: Technically, no. But he opens it up in the morning just for us, then closes back down when we leave.
Rubble's stomach growls, which caught the attention of everyone.
-Rubble: I think that is indication that we should go.
Everybody laughs.
-Ryder: Alright, lets go to Mr. Porters!
The pups cheer and all ran to the elevator, taking it down, and each one hopped in their vehicles. Ryder took his fireman's pole down and jumped on his atv. They all drive to town.
When they arrived at Mr. Porters, they all parked their vehicles along the curb of the road. Ryder takes his helmet off and jumps off his atv. Mr. Porter was bringing a box of ingredients inside his place. His place has grown over the years. Instead of being just a bakery, he extended it and transformed it into a resturant. Being able to sit about fifty people inside, he also had 5 tables outside.
-Ryder: Hello Mr. Porter.
Mr. Porter turns around and sees Ryder and the pups.
-Mr. Porter: Hi Paw Patrol. You here to eat breakfast?
-Ryder: Yep. It is Saturday after all.
-Mr. Porter: It's Saturday? Wow, time flies pass when you don't pay attention. Go ahead and walk in. I'll get your orders as soon as I put this box up.
Ryder and the pups walks in and goes to their usual table in a private section. Mr. Porter thought it was necessary to give Ryder and the pups a special area since they saved his place countless of times. Either stopping an animal from eating his food or stopping a fire that he started.
The seven seats surrounding the table were color coded for each pup. Mr. Porter thought it was a nice detail. Ryder took a light blue seat, designed for Everest in case she was with Ryder and them at the time, from the wall and placed it to the table. The pups jumps into their seats, while Ryder sat in his multicolored seat. When painted the seats, Mr. Porter didn't know what color he should paint Ryder's seat, so he painted it with all the pup's colors, including light blue.
Mr. Porter stepped in the private area and laid seven menus on the table. Each one grabbed a menu but there wasn't any for Everest.
-Ryder: We need another menu Mr. Porter.
-Mr. Porter: I was sure I counted seven when I got them.
-Ryder: We have Everest with us today.
-Mr. Porter: Oh, sorry! I didn't see her.
Mr. Porter grabbed another menu and passed it to Everest.
-Everest: Thank you!
-Mr. Porter: Your welcome. Now, what do you all want to drink?
They all look at the beverage section on their menus. Everest was surprised at how many different choices there was.
Saturdays and Sundays was the only days Ryder let the pups eat or drink whatever they wanted. He never believed that even though dogs are more like humans, like talking, that they should drink things like soda. He always had them eat dog food since it was healthy, cleans their teeth, and delicious to them. Once in a while they would ask for something else instead of dog food, which Ryder accepted. The pups understood Ryder's decisions, but today was like a free day for them.
-Ryder: I'll have a Pepsi.
-Zuma: Sprite please.
-Marshall: Tea.
-Skye: Coke.
-Rocky: I'll have a Coke too.
-Rubble: Dr. Pepper.
-Chase: Just a water please.
Mr. Porter wrote all the drinks down, but noticed someone didn't answer. He looks at Everest.
Mr. Porter: What about you Everest?
-Everest: I'll have tea, but can you make it liver flavored?
-Mr. Porter: Sure, why not.
Mr. Porter leaves to get the drinks.
-Marshall: Everest, is this your first time being here?
-Everest: Yes, well, this is my second time. The first time was a special occasion for, Jake.
Marshall almost punched himself for getting Everest to mention Jake.
-Marshall: Well, take your time to find something to eat. There's a lot of good choices.
-Rocky: Yeah, just don't get anything that involves peanut butter.
Everybody laughs. A minute passed.
-Ryder: Mr. Porter should be back soon. Does everybody know what they want?
All the pups nods except for Everest.
-Everest: I'm not sure what to pick.
-Ryder: Since you love liver, why not the liver biscuits with gravy?
-Everest: That does sound good. I guess I can try it.
Mr. Porter walks back in the private area, carrying a tray with drinks on it. He lays the drinks, which all was in dog bowls except for Ryder's, beside each person that ordered it.
-Mr. Porter: Do you all know what you want to eat today?
-Ryder: Yes we do. I'll have the normal breakfast platter.
-Chase: I'll have the bacon breakfast platter.
-Marshall: I'll take the same as Chase.
-Rocky: I'll have the sausage and gravy plate.
-Skye: Blueberry waffles, please.
-Zuma: Just the fish skillet.
-Rubble: I would like the breakfast combo.
-Everest: And I'll have the liver biscuits and gravy.
-Mr. Porter: Alright, I'll have your food out in about ten minutes.
Mr. Porter picks up the menus and leaves to prepare the food. After nine minutes he came back and gave them their food. They all ate, Ryder paid for the food, and all of them walked out.
-Everest: That was delicious!
-Rocky: Yeah. It seems like every time we come here the food gets better.
-Ryder: I agree with you Rocky. This time the breakfast platter was sweeter than last time.
A guy with a blue bag full of envelopes pass them, but turns back around.
-postman: Hello Ryder!
-Ryder: Hi.
-postman: Since your here, I might as well give you your mail now.
The postman rummages through his bag and pulls out an envelope, handing it to Ryder.
-postman: There you go. Now, I gotta go. Take care.
-Ryder: Okay, bye. And thanks for the mail.
Ryder opens up the envelope and reads the paper inside.
Hello Paw Patrol,
I currently invite you, Ryder, to a fantastic ride on our yaht! With all the help you and your pups did so far, this is one of the ways I can repay you. Unfortunately, we only have room for you and one pup of your choice. I am sorry to say that but the rest of the customers has paid top dollar to be on the ship. Sleeping quarters, food, drink, and entertainment will be prepared for you. I really hope I will see you and the pup you choose to bring here. I will be waiting to meet you.
(the cruise will arrive at the docks of Adventure Bay on Sunday 13th, afternoon. The ship will travel far away from Seal Island, pass an area known more murpups, and getting back to the docks by Monday 14th, morning.)
Sincerely: Mr. Dinty, a long time fan.
-Ryder: Cool.
-Skye: What's cool Ryder?
-Ryder: Someone named Mr. Dinty has invited us to go on a cruise.
-all pups: Woah!
-Rocky: I wanna see the paper!
Ryder hands the paper to Rocky and he reads it.
-Rocky: Uh, Ryder? This says you and only one pup can go.
The pups frown saying 'ahh'.
-Ryder: Yeah, it does. That's why I'm not going.
-all pups: What!
-Rocky: What do you mean Ryder?
-Ryder: If I can't bring all of my pups, then I don't feel right going.
-Chase: Come on Ryder, take this chance.
-Ryder: I think all of the vacation time we took this year is plenty for me.
-Rubble: You deserve some quality time. And what better place than a fancy ship?
-Ryder: Does everybody think the same?
All the pups nod.
-Ryder: Well...I guess I'll go.
-Zuma: So, who are you taking with you?
The pups start to hop up and down, wondering who Ryder was going to take.
-Ryder: (smiling) Calm down pups. I'll tell you who I'm going to bring later. I gotta think about it. Right now, lets go home.
Ryder and the pups get into their vehicles and drives back to the Lookout.
Ryder and the pups park there vehicles in their designated spots. Ryder steps off his atv and heads to the pups, which waited at the doors of the Lookout.
-Ryder: Alright pups. I decided who I will take to the cruise.
The pups got excited again.
-Marshall: Who Ryder?
-Ryder: Chase.
-Chase: Me? Yes! Yeah!
Chase hops up and down, happily, while the other pups frowned.
-Ryder: Sorry pups, but Chase has always wanted to go on a cruise ship.
-Marshall: Yeah, I remember him always telling me that he wanted to.
-Ryder: We head over to the docks tomorrow afternoon. We should get back on Monday morning.
-Chase: This is going to be so fun!
-Ryder: It will be, but it is tomorrow, so we have to wait. Don't get too excited yet.
-Chase: Okay Ryder sir!
Ryder laughs and pets Chase.
-Ryder: Alright pups, so lets...
Ryder's pup pad rings. He pulls it out of his pocket and answers it.
-Ryder: Hello?
The screen of the pup pad shows two people.
-Captain Turbot: Ryder?
-Ryder: Hello Turbots. What do you need?
-Francois: We were taking a walk...
-Captain Turbot: Intil we heard an animal in distress somewhere at the park.
-Francois: The animal doesn't sound happy.
-Ryder: Don't worry Turbots. We'll check the animal. No job is to big, no pup is to small!
Ryder slides open the pup pad and presses the button. The pup's pup tags flashes.
-Ryder: Paw Patrol, to the Lookout!
-pups: Ryder needs us!
The pups all jump in the elevator. After the last one enters, Rocky presses the 'mission' button. They all get their suits on. When Chase went to his closet, the light beside his spy outfit was on, indicating that that's the outfit he needs to wear. After putting it on, he closes his closet and the elevator moves upward. Chase noticed that Marshall had his EMT gear on also. The elevator stops and the pups jump into their usual line. Somehow Ryder was already up at the tv, like always.
-Chase: Paw Patrol ready for action Ryder Sir!
Chase finishes his sentence with slamming his paw to the ground. Ryder clicks his pup pad to turn the tv on, showing throughout the conversation what to do.
-Ryder: Thanks for hurrying pups. The Turbots passed the park and heard an animal in distress.
Ryder flips through the symbols to Chase's.
-Ryder: Chase. I need you to use your spy goggles and possibly your spy drone to find the animal.
-Chase: Chase is on the case!
Ryder finds Marshall's symbol and clicks it.
-Ryder: Marshall. I need you to find out what is wrong with the animal.
-Marshall: I'm ready for a ruff, ruff, rescue!
-Ryder: Alright! Paw Patrol, is on a roll!
Ryder runs over to his firemans pole and slides down. Chase and Marshall slides down the slide. Chase was first. When he slid down, he jumped into his spy vehicle, already there. He starts it up and barely hears the engine. Over the years, Ryder did his best to make Chase's spy vehicle as quiet as possible to make it more undetectable. Chase drives out of his parking place and Marshall falls into his EMT truck. He starts it and follows Chase. Ryder jumps on his atv and drives ahead of them. They all head to the park.
Ryder, Marshall, and Chase stops at the park. They all jump out of their vehicles.
-Chase: Uh, Ryder. I can hear the animal already.
-Ryder: Good job Chase, Follow the sound and find that animal.
Chase runs toward where the noise came from, Ryder and Marshall following. Chase stops close to a tree.
-Chase: 'bark' Goggles!
Chase's goggles form on his face. He looks around and sees a small animal laying on the ground behind a bush.
-Chase: Behind that bush Ryder!
Ryder runs over behind the bush.
-Ryder: Wow.
The pups arrive behind Ryder and sees a squirrel, covered in blood and huge gashes.
-Marshall: Oh No!
The squirrel was barely moving, only moving its head to look at Ryder, Chase, and Marshall.
-Chase: What happened to it!
-Ryder: It looks like a different animal wanted to play.
-Marshall: What should we do Ryder!
-Ryder: Marshall...we can't do anything.
-Marshall: What do you mean?
-Ryder: You can't live through that much injuries, even with the best doctor. I still can't believe he's still alive.
-Marshall: I understand.
-Chase: I guess we should put it out of it's misery.
-Ryder: Yeah.
Ryder slams his foot on the squirrel's head, killing it instantly. Retracting his foot, the squirrel's head was smashed. The squirrel wasn't moving anymore. Ryder pulls out his pup pad and calls Rubble.
-Rubble: Rubble hear.
-Ryder: Rubble, I need you to help bury a squirrel.
-Rubble: Rubble on the, wait. Bury a squirrel?
-Ryder: Yes. We had to put it out of its misery.
-Rubble: Oh. I'll be right over.
In a few minutes, Rubble appeared. Rubble spawns his shovel and digs a hole. Ryder lays the squirrel in the hole and Rubble covered it back up.
-Ryder: Lets go home pups.
When Ryder and his three pups arrived back home, they seen a red truck parked in the driveway. They hurried to park their vehicles and went inside. When Ryder was running to the elevator, passing the red truck, he seen a pack of beer in the bed. Not caring, he continued to run. When Ryder and the pups arrive at the top of the Lookout, Jake was standing in front of the other pups at the living room area. Everest was already crying, but stayed still.
-Jake: Good, the rest is here.
-Ryder: Hi Jake. What are you doing?
-Jake: I'm giving a speech to all of you before I leave. Go and sit.
Ryder, Rubble, Chase, and Marshall sits with the other pups.
-Jake: Alright. I'll start with Zuma. Zuma, you are the best swimmer I have ever seen. Way better than me. Keep it up.
Zuma nods.
-Jake: Rubble, I can't thank you enough for saving me before you were even in the Paw Patrol. That showed courage.
-Rubble: Thank you.
-Jake: Rocky. You helped Ryder make that snow plow Everest drives. That was a cool vehicle. Very roomy in the back. You also fixed anything of mine that broke. You help me save a fortune from not buying new stuff and showed me about recycling. You are definitely a handy pup.
-Rocky: Thanks.
-Jake: Skye. I always wanted you to teach me how to fly. But I guess I waited too long.
Skye starts to cry. Chase moves towards her and lets her cry in his chest.
-Jake: Chase. You was always the serious one, but even I can tell you have a soft side towards others. You always felt what others felt, but you was able to keep your feelings under control. I wish I was able to do that...Marshall. I know you will be there to take care of Everest. I just wish I would be able to see your pups when you decide to be with Everest for good.
-Marshall: Uhhhh.
-Jake: Ryder. Your the first person I would have chose to take care of Everest if I passed away, knowing that you raised six pups. I know you will do your best to take care of her, or at least die trying. I know I did.
-Ryder: Don't worry Jake. I'll take care of her.
-Jake: I know you will.
Jake turns to face Everest.
-Jake: Everest. You was the only dog I had. My best friend. My only family when my parents died before I turned seven. When you saved me from falling that time we met, I automatically wanted you to be in my family. I was so happy that you said you'll stay with me. You already knew how to survive when we met, so I won't worry about you too much when I'm gone.
Jake moves forward and pets Everest, wiping the tears from her face.
-Jake: I'll wait for you in heaven I just hope it'll take awhile.
Everest jumps on him and hugs. Ryder and the other pups follow her example. After a long hug, Jake broke away from them and walks over to the elevator. Stepping in the elevator, Jake waves goodbye.
-Jake: Marshall, take care of her.
-Marshall: I will Jake.
Jake presses the 'down' button.
-Jake: Fire and Ice. They sound like it will balance out.
The door closes and Jake leaves, forever. Everest breaks out crying and Marshall hugs her.
-Ryder: (in his head) He left pretty quickly. But why?
Ryder and the pups took the rest of the day to think about Jake. Ryder fixed them and himself spaghetti for dinner. They ate, watched Apollo, and went to bed.
-?: Are you ready to do this Tristan?
Tristan was walking to a two door car while the person spoke.
-Tristan: Yep. How many men are you giving me?
-?: Enough. Just get your assignment done. Since Mark is gone, you and Arnie is left.
-Tristan: Don't worry. I'll get them.
Tristan jumps into the suv and starts the engine, then turning on the lights since it was dark out.
-Tristan: So why am I going there at night again?
-?: So you can have enough time to set up a plan.
-Tristan: Right.
Tristan shuts his door and waits for the other person to get in since he is going too, then puts his car in drive, driving away. He decides to repeat what he heard his now dead partner said.
-Tristan: I just need one.
Jake barely was able to walk in his cabin. He was way too drunk. He carried his last beer from his truck in his hand, chugging the rest down in a few seconds. He throws the empty beer bottle to the wall, shattering it into a million pieces.
-Jake: Aahhhh!
Jake holds his head in pain from a headache for over ten seconds, then it stopped.
-Jake: I can't do this anymore.
Jake slowly walks over to his refrigerator, throwing open the door and grabbing a cold beer can. He opens it and chugs it down. He wipes off some beer from his lips and goes over to his bedroom, letting the can in his hand fall to the ground along the way. When inside, Jake walks over to his nightstand. He slides it open and pulls out a picture with a frame. Jake looks at it.
The picture was one Mayor Goodway took of him, Ryder, and the pups. They were standing infront of Jake's cabin. At that time, Ryder needed Jake and Everest to find Mayor Goodway since she was lost in the mountains from hiking. When she was found, she was so happy she took a picture of all of them and gave one copy to Jake and another copy to Ryder.
-Jake: This was my only family.
Jake continues to hold it, remembering memories of what they all did together.
-Jake: Aahhhh!
Jake drops the picture, the glass shattering on the ground, and he holds his head again. This headache was the worst one he had so far. Jake, barely able to stand anyways, falls over to the ground, still holding and squeezing his head.
-Jake: Ahh!
The headache stopped. Jake's face was covered in sweat and his eyes was full of tears. He wipes it all off. He stands up, falling a few times from trying, and picks up the picture. The picture falls out of the frame while being picked up since there was no glass anymore to hold it inside. Jake holds the picture with one hand and used his other hand to grab something from his nightstand. He holds the thing up to his temple. Jake moves the picture so he's staring at it.
-Jake: I'll wait for you in heaven Everest. They won't be able to use me if they can't control me.
Jake pulls the trigger from the object.
Bang!
Jake falls to the ground with a thud. No more pain... No more headaches... No more sorrow... No more anything.
