[October 1st: Mikaelson-Swan Gallery]
The Autumn gallery art show was starting tonight, and everything hung in the gallery was season related. Bella worked hard on a few pieces of art, that included a windstorm of oranges, reds, yellows, and dark purples. Aro was flying in just for the showing tonight and told Bella that he wanted her to hold the painting. 'October Kiss', for him, that he was wanting it for the museum there in Italy. So, she put the sold plaque on it for him before the show started.
Emelia was almost a full month old, and she was already so wide eyed and curious. Her eyes had been brown, deep chocolate like Elena's, but Stefan didn't mind so much. She was a fussy baby at night, Elena had mentioned. Stefan moved into the Swan house to live with Elena full time with Emelia. Bella moved in with Klaus, and Mary and the kids moved into the Salvatore house. Damon told Mary he would have a house built for them, but Mary declined. She loved the Salvatore estate, and it was plenty of room for the kids. Damon offered Sharon to come live with them, and she said she would think about it.
Rebekah moved in with Jasper at his house. The Whitlock's weren't an old family in Mystic Falls, but they were prominent enough to be an Heir of Dawn. Rebekah was happy to be a Whitlock now, and Jasper and her had been traveling Europe for the better part of a month since they wed in Vegas on Bella's birthday.
"Bella, love," Klaus called to her from the door of the office. "Aro is here."
Bella stood up from the desk, feeling a whoosh of dizziness and she steadied herself. "Great," she smiled, hoping Klaus wouldn't notice her momentary loss of balance. She moved from the office to the gallery floor. Her dress sparkled slightly as she moved. Aro greeted her, kissing her cheek on both sides. "Thank you for coming all this way Aro." She was happy that he had made an appearance. It had been a while since she saw him, and she was still working on the large oil painting he had requested a few months back. Oils took longer for her, and with everything that happened recently, Aro understood the delay.
"Of course, Bella, I would not miss this for the world," Aro commented, smiling as he took her arm in his and moved around the gallery. "I am very interested in the anonymous artist that you have presented here too. Are they anonymous to you as well?"
"They are. Klaus picked up the art in London a while back, and the artist sends their pieces over. We host them here in the gallery, and when one sells, we send the money to the charity the artist has lined out in their contract." She explained.
Klaus was entertaining Heidi Voltaire, Aro's wife, while Bella showed Aro a few of the other local artist paintings. There was an artist from the high school that reminded her of herself. His name was Seth Clearwater, and he was an exceptional artist, one that Bella hoped to send Aro's way.
Damon and Mary showed up, Mary wearing a deep burgundy dress that hugged her curves. A man approached Damon, and Damon smiled and shook the man's hand. "This is my wife, Mary." Damon introduced Mary, and the man shook her hand as well.
"Demetri Algrove. I'm here with Aro and his wife," Demetri said and smiled at Damon. "It's been a while since I saw you Damon. You haven't been to Italy for a few months."
"I don't travel anymore. A lot of the foreign relations are being left to Zach still. He travels Europe frequently. He doesn't have children, so he's better for the position."
"Oh, I did not know you had kids." Demetri commented.
Damon nodded. "Three." He smiled. "My brother recently became a father as well, so neither of us are willing to travel for the time being. I'll have Zach stop in and see you in Italy once he's out of Belgium."
Mary smiled, her heart beating fast at the mention of Damon claiming the kids. It always made her happy inside that he was so accepting.
Out of the corner of Damon's eye he saw one of Klaus' security detail approach Klaus and whisper something. Klaus' eyes met Damon's across the room, and he nodded to Damon.
"Excuse me real quick honey, I'll be right back." He said, kissing Mary briefly, and then followed Klaus into his office. "What's going on?"
"Edward is here. He's threatening to cause a scene." Klaus said quickly. He was dialing something on his cellphone. "Christopher is handling it right now, but I'm texting Liz. To make sure they're on route."
Damon cursed. "Can't Bella just get a break from this guy?"
After a few moments, Liz arrived with a few other cars. "Edward Cullen, you're under arrest. Anything you say can be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, then one will be appointed to you," she started reading off Edward's rights to him, but he was just grinning wide as Liz got him in the back of the cop car, not speaking a word.
Bella looked at the flashing lights outside, and saw Edward being cuffed. Her heart sped up and panic shot through her at first because he was here, but then she settled own when she realized that he was being arrested, that he couldn't hurt her right now. Klaus was beside her then.
"Hey, they got him love. It's going to be okay." Klaus murmured, kissing her cheek.
Bella nodded, shutting her eyes. The nightmare that was Edward Cullen was over. Then there was an explosion outside, that shook the gallery. It tousled Bella to the floor, Klaus with her. The lights went out suddenly in the gallery and she reached around for Klaus frantically.
"I'm right here. I'm okay. Are you okay?" Klaus said, his hands connecting with her, and he pulled her into his arms. "Steady your breathing. The backup lights will come on." When he said that, emergency back up lights turned on. It wasn't as bright as the regular lights, but it was no longer dark in the gallery now.
He got to his feet and helped Bella up, dusting her off before going to the main lobby. "Everyone remain calm. I'm going to go check on things. I will return." Klaus said, his voice booming in the openness of the lobby. Thankfully, no one seemed to be hurt.
Klaus went outside, finding chaos. Police cars were blown back. Fire and debris littered the ground outside and Liz was calling out orders. Damon was coughing from the smoke. "You okay mate?"
"Yeah, I just walked outside when the explosion happened. Bella's Jeep exploded." Damon said.
Liz had Edward in one of the police cars, and she was radioing in the fire department. She hated to admit but she needed state police there now too.
"He blew up her car?"
"Yeah, I think he was planning something different, and the bomb was timed. I don't think he accounted for the increase of security." Damon said, and answered his phone when he saw Mary calling. "I'm okay babe. No one is hurt. Stay inside okay." He said and hung up. "This is a fucking mess. I'll have Louis fill out insurance claims. There's a lot of personal property damage going on. The outside of the gallery doesn't look too bad. The blast of the bomb looks like it knocked out power, considering where her Jeep is parked, to the utility pole. Something got knocked loose whatever it is." He said and sighed.
Klaus nodded. "Strange." He looked at Edward sitting in the back of the cop car. He was staring at him, smiling. "Why is he so fucking creepy?"
"He's deranged Klaus. He doesn't want Bella to be happy. It's all in the tabloids. Isabella Swan is the new Mrs. Mikaelson. They got pictures of us all in Vegas. It's no secret that you two are married. That the Mikaelson's and Swan's are united." Damon said. "It was bound to draw him out of the shadows eventually."
"Yeah, but he's not looking like his plan failed. She wasn't in the car when it blew up. The timing is off? Does that make sense Damon? Even with the proximity to the gallery, that blast shouldn't have shook us like it did. There must be something else. Something we're not seeing." Klaus looked around, looking at the gallery, how it sat off the main street in town. He looked around at the other buildings. All the lights were on. He looked at the utility pole and followed the wires to other buildings. "It's not this pole. The power was cut some other way."
Damon frowned, following Klaus' line of thought. He looked around. "Why cut the power to the gallery?" He murmured and then he heard a shot ring out, and then Klaus went down. "Shit," he moved fast, going to the ground with Klaus.
Liz and other deputies looked around, hunkered down low after the shot was fired, but couldn't find the source.
"Fuck hold on man," Damon said, as he ripped Klaus' shirt open to look at the blood pooling around the wound.
Klaus coughed, pain searing through his body. "Fuck, this hurts," he said, his teeth grit.
Damon pulled his suit jacket off and wound it up in a ball and pressed it to the shot. "Hold still," he said and lifted him slightly to see if there was an exit wound. When he saw the exit wound, he relaxed a little. "Okay, it's not stuck in you. But you're losing blood. Liz!" He called out. "Roll an ambulance now!" He yelled and looked at Klaus, who was struggling to stay conscious. "Hey, hang in there man. You're okay." He pressed harder into the wound and Klaus cried out in pain, and then coughed again, sucking in a breath.
Bella was running outside now. "Klaus!" Her voice screamed, tears blinding her as she came to his side.
"Bella you need to be inside, we don't know if the shooter is still here."
Edward was laughing, smiling crazily in the backseat of the cop car as he watched Klaus writhe on the ground, dying.
"Please, god, Klaus, please don't leave me. I'm pregnant! You hear me! I'm pregnant, and we need you. We need you to stay here. Please don't leave us…" She sobbed.
Klaus reached up his hand had blood on it, and it shook before he tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Don't…. cry…." he said and coughed. "I…love…." His eyes drifted shut.
"No! Klaus please!" Bella begged, her head going to his chest as she sobbed.
The ambulance pulled up, and EMTs hustled out, getting Klaus on a gurney and securing him in tight. Damon pulled Bella with him, as she watched the ambulance leave. Damon's hands were covered in Klaus' blood, as was his shirt.
"Shhh. Bella, come on. I'll drive you to the hospital. Let's get Mary and go to the hospital." He said and walked inside the gallery. "Mary, hurry, get her in the car please." He said and Mary rushed over, gathering Bella, her eyes wide at Damon's appearance, blood all over him. "I apologize for the events that have transpired. Klaus is on his way to the hospital. Christopher will be able to help with closing the show, if you have any questions, please hold those questions until after a press release has been completed by a member of the family. Thank you," he announced and then left. There were press at the showing, like there always was, and he had to maintain a level of professionalism to make sure that nothing too much was revealed.
He drove with Mary and Bella to the hospital, hoping that Klaus hung in there. The bombshell Bella dropped on him was hopefully big enough to keep him fighting.
Edward's revenge on Bella and Klaus went off perfectly. Sure he had to gather the funds in order to pay the hit man the price he was asking, and that took time, but it was worth it to see the fucker go down, the confused look on his face as the bullet pierced his chest. The shrieks from Bella seeing her husband die on the ground in front of her. It was the cherry on top to see Damon struggle to keep Klaus from bleeding out, his attempts would fail, and to see Damon Salvatore fail, was just icing on the cake. All of it was worth prison and more. Bella, that dumb bitch. She should have said yes to Homecoming.
