Inuyasha & Kagome

Inuyasha sat on the porch of the small hut he shared with Kagome...with baby Ichiro asleep in his arms. The sun was just barely rising and the air was chilly, so the half-demon made sure to swaddle his infant son in his blanket and wrapped him up in his arms for good measure. Kagome was still inside, asleep, so Inuyasha wanted to let her stay inside she could rest a bit more.

As Ichiro slept in his father's arms, Inuyasha smiled down at his baby...his and Kagome's baby. Even now, after it had been at least 2 months after his son's birth, it felt like it was hitting him in the face like one of Sesshomaru's punches. This was his child: a product of his and Kagome's love for each other...a gift from heaven, itself. He felt like he couldn't be any prouder as he watched Ichiro sleep in his embrace, his little ears twitching while he sucked on his thumb.

"It's a bit early, don't you think?"

Inuyasha turned to see Kagome walk up to him, yawning and stretching as she approached her husband.

"Good morning," she said as she sat beside him.

"Hey," Inuyasha replied, quietly. "You sleep well?"

"I slept wonderfully," Kagome answered as she looked out at the sky, which was beginning to get clearer as the sun began to appear. "Such a gorgeous morning."

"...I see something even more gorgeous," Inuyasha said as he side-eyed her, causing her to smile as she gently nudged him in the side, but was very careful not to accidentally stir her son from his slumber.

"...You're so good with him, Inuyasha," she mused as she watched Ichiro sleep.

"Well...I did have a bit of practice," Inuyasha replied. "During the time you were gone, I would sometimes babysit for Miroku and Sango and...well...they let me hold their kids for them after they were born." He paused. "It...helped keep my mind off things...if only for a while."

"I see," Kagome said, feeling her heart sink just a little bit. She knew that Inuyasha must have been missing her terribly during the three years she had been gone...just as she had been missing him.

"You know," Inuyasha spoke as he looked down at Ichiro, "now that Ichi's here...it actually feels like I'm home."

"...I think so, too," Kagome replied as she leaned against the half-demon's shoulder while gently stroking her son's hair and ears.

"He's not gonna have an easy life, though," Inuyasha said, sadly. "I know that there are still some people who don't accept half-demons, let alone quarter-demons like Ichiro."

"...I agree," Kagome said, "but we'll be there for him so he'll never feel alone."

"...I want him to have a good childhood, Kagome," Inuyasha said. "I want him to be able to grow up and be as happy as he can...and who knows? Maybe he'll fall in love and start a family of his own."

"You're looking pretty far into the future, aren't you?" Kagome asked.

"...There's always a future whenever I'm with you, Kagome," Inuyasha replied...which caused her eyes to soften as she leaned in closer, puckering her lips, prompting him to capture them in his own in a chaste kiss. As they pulled away, Ichiro finally chose that moment to wake up, giving a small whine as he opened his eyes.

"Aww, come here, sweetie," Kagome said as she took her baby boy into her arms and pulled down her haori, allowing him to latch onto her breast and suckle. Inuyasha laughed a bit to himself as he watched his son nurse, then looked out toward the rising sun.

Today was another tomorrow.
