"I think his said his name was Ron. No, wait… or Don?... No I think it's Ron." Kalinda was trying her best not to roll her eyes in front of Peter's secretary.

"Are you sure?" Kalinda asked, not trusting her memory. How could someone this forgetful and messy be the governor's secretary?

"um… or it could be Tom… or Jon?" the secretary mumbled to herself. This time Kalinda really rolled her eyes. She was talking to all the staffs at Peter's office to see if anyone had received any threats, or seen anyone suspicious. The secretary told her about the Don/Ron/Tom/Jon's visit.

Kalinda had never thought she would step foot in the governor's office. Given their history, she had been avoiding Peter at all cost. She silently vowed to herself that she would never work for Peter Florrick again, or had anything to do with him. So when she stood in front of his office, looking at the framed picture of him hanging next to the front desk, she couldn't help but cringed.

But it was Alicia who asked her to investigate, and it concerned the safety of her daughter. After everything, she still considered Alicia as a friend, even if Alicia didn't see her as her friend. So she helped them. But she picked the day when Peter wasn't there to go to his office to investigate.

Kalinda's investigation had three prongs: find out if Peter had enemy that would want to hurt him; find out if Alicia had enemy that would want to hurt her; and find out who the kidnappers were and their motives. The police managed to find the black van, three kidnappers were arrested. But they refused to say anything, or admit any crime. Kalinda believed they were doing someone else's bidding. She had to find out who that "someone" was.

She took out her phone to make a call.

"Hey…"

"Cary, have you found anything yet?"

"Hello to you too Kalinda." Kalinda rolled her eyes for the second time within an hour.

Cary continued. "No. I went through almost every single case Alicia had handled since we formed the firm. I don't see anyone would be angry enough to find out the lawyer's family and kidnap them. And even if someone holds a grudge against us, Alicia would've received threats. And why hurt the lawyer's daughter but not the lawyer? I don't think this has anything to do with our cases."

Kalinda felt defeated. "Okay. Thanks." She wanted to hang up, but Cary said "Whoa whoa whoa, want to hang up that fast? Where's the warm and fuzzy Kalinda?" he smirked.

Kalinda rolled her eyes for the third time. "How warm and fuzzy do you want me to be?"

"I don't know. Why don't you come over to my place to show me how warm and fuzzy you could be?"

They weren't exactly lovers. What are they? Boyfriend and girlfriend? Friend with benefit? One-night stands that repeated more than one night? Kalinda didn't know. But while she would sleep with her FBI friend, or police friend to get information about a case, Cary was somehow different.

After spending the whole day investigating Peter Florrick, she could use some distraction.

"7:00pm?"

"Anything?" Kalinda asked. Detective Jenna Villette flumped into a chair, tossed the file she was holding onto the desk. She pinched the bridge of her nose, and sigh heavily. "No, they still won't talk."

Jenna and her colleagues had been interrogating the three kidnappers for 10 hours straight. None of them had given up the name of the person who hired them. The police had enough evidence to charge them, but the big boss was still at large.

Two of the kidnappers had criminal records – burglary, shoplifting, drug possession. Their identities and background were easy to find.

"Look, these two thugs are basically your "frequent flyer", they had been arrested so many times for different charges. Their earliest criminal record showed they started shoplifting since 14 and 16 years old. Both high school drop outs, from broken families, one of them was homeless for several years in his 20s." Kalinda was reading their records.

"But this other one, Jeffrey Grant, has nothing. It even shows he was a student at Northwestern University. Who is this guy?"

"Let's go find out" Jenna said.
