Chapter Fourteen
Time went by quickly for Natalie. She was so busy with school and advertising for the twins that she hardly had time to keep track of the date. When it was time for the second task, she could hardly believe it. The Twins and her were selling bets just as they had for the first task. Draco tried betting against Harry and Natalie charged him a few of 3 galleons just for entering a bet. He grew angry and she reminded him that he was an awful person and Fred could easily handle it for her if he was being difficult.
When she returned to the twins, she handed each of them a galleon and placed a galleon bet on Harry winning the second task. "Where did you get this? I didn't think you liked gambling." George asked.
"I charged Malfoy 3 galleons for just entering a bet. One for each of you and one for me to place a bet." Natalie smiled at them as they walked to the lake.
"Oh boy, George. I think we are rubbing off on her too much." Fred laughed.
"A Slytherin prankster… the horror." George agreed.
The champions were assembled on the lake shore. Dumbledore was announcing the task. "All the champions have exactly one hour to retrieve what has been stolen from them from the merpeople's village at the bottom of the lake and return it to the surface. The second task will begin on my whistle and the time will be strictly enforced."
"Fred… George… where's your brother? He's going to miss the second task!" Natalie tried to look around for the other red-headed Weasley but could only spot Ginny.
They shrugged. "Perhaps he's fighting with Harry again and didn't want to come to the second task."
She frowned. That didn't seem right. The two were talking again and getting along. Hermione isn't here either."
The twins rolled their eyes. "Can you just watch!"
Natalie put her arms across her chest. "You two are so un-observant I swear."
When the whistle blew, all four champions dived into the water. Cedric and Fleur and casted a bubble charm to breath underwater while Victor turned his head into a shark's head. Harry was chewing onto some plants and fell into the water quite ungracefully. The second task turned out to be quite boring compared to the first task, no one could see under the murky water of the lake. Natalie silently cursed herself for not watching from the Slytherin common room. Through the window, she was sure she could've seen some action.
The crowd erupted into cheers when the water rippled and a champion emerged into view. However, the cheers ended when they saw Fleur empty handed and in tears. "Grindylows attacked me!" She was helped out of the water and was crying, going on about her sister.
"They have people under there?" Natalie looked with wide eyes down into the water hoping to see Gabrielle under the water. "Oh my god, Fred… George… your brother."
The twins looked at her. "You don't think he's under there do you?"
"I think that he's Harry's best friend and it's a very valuable person in his life." Natalie bit her lip. "I think it's a very safe bet that he's under there with Gabrielle."
The next ripple in the water and Cedric emerged, holding onto Cho Chang. The Hogwarts students cheered madly and were chanting his name at the top of their lungs. When he was helped up, he refused to take a towel first and insisted that people attend to Cho who blushed at the kind gesture.
Viktor Krum emerged from the lake next. In his arm was Hermione Granger, his Yule Ball date. The students of Durmstrang cheered and were chanting Krum's name over and over again, drowning out the Hogwarts students.
Harry Potter came in third and instead of having one person with him, he also had Gabrielle with him! Everyone was shocked and chanting Potter over and over again. Fleur gave Harry and Ron big kisses on their cheeks as she gave Gabrielle a tight hug.
Dumbledore was talking to other judges and the Merpeople about what happened under the water while all the stands were filled with chanting and chaos. He put his wand against his neck to amplify his voice into the air. "Due to Harry Potter saving not one but two people under the water, he has moved from third place to second place due to his moral decision. Therefore, Cedric Diggory has scored forty-seven points, Harry Potter forty-five points, Viktor Krum earning forty points, and Fleur Delacour earning twenty-five points. Diggory and Potter are now tied in first place."
The Hogwarts students were besides themselves. Not only one, but two of the first-place standings were both from Hogwarts. The likelihood that either Diggory or Potter winning were very high and this was making even the most foul Slytherin's excited about the next task in the Tri-Wizard Tournament.
After the task, Natalie decided to ditch the Slytherin party for the Gryffindor one. She did not want to repeat the events of the last Slytherin party she was at. The twins seemed to agree that this was the best thing for her to do because Fred wrapped his Gryffindor scarf around her neck and whispered. "Here, now you'll blend right in and you can party with the lions."
The common room was packed with excitement and cheers for Harry Potter, the boy who lived and the Gryffindor champion. Natalie joined in the excitement but stuck close to the twins and Ginny to try and avoid looks from people who did not recognize her.
The twins disappeared and returned with butterbeer and sweets from Hogsmeade, clearly taking the secret passageway to get them without getting caught. The Gryffindor common room began to dance and drink the rest of the day away.
Natalie found herself tucked in Fred's arm as they swayed casually back and forth to the music playing from one of the record players that a muggle-born student had brought from home. She took in the very scene before her eyes, wishing that she could freeze this moment in time forever. It was perfect.
Fred seemed to have read her thoughts because he looked down and pressed his warm lips against her own. His scent enveloped around her, she smelled sweets, vanilla, and butter beer. His warmth soaked into her and she melted in response into his strong arms. "I love you, Natalie Flint."
"I love you too, Fred Weasley." She stood on her tippy toes to kiss the tip of his nose like he always did to her.
Like all perfect things… they have to come to an end.
