When he woke up the next morning, Scott realized he was the only one still in bed. He sat up and scratched his head before climbing out of bed.

"Dad?" He said, walking into the living area. "Hello?"

"Scott!" Scott looked towards the connecting door and saw Madelyne.

"Where is everyone?"

"Alvers demanded everyone, including instructors, have a Danger Room session this morning."

"Oh."

"Your dad wanted you to rest. He said you were tossing and turning all night."

"Great. Not only am I no longer the leader of my team, but I'm not even welcomed in the Danger Room anymore." Scott went to the bathroom and then into his room to change his clothes. He grabbed his keys, leaving his phone again, and started walking to the door.

"Where are you going?"

"I don't know. I just know that if I stay here any longer, I'm going to-" Scott looked at Madelyne. "I'll be back, love. I won't make any permanent decisions without you. But… Maddie, I'm hurting and this isn't a hurt you can help me with. I don't want to say or do anything to you or my family that I'll regret."

"Please take your phone." Scott picked it up and put it in his pocket.

"I'm only answering calls or texts from you, ok?" Madelyne nodded and kissed Scott before he left. He quickly went back to his car and took off. He went back to Look Out Point and sat on the hood of his car again. Scott was trying not to feel sorry for himself, but with everything that had been happening since the incident at the mall, it was hard. Once again, Scott lost track of time as he stared at Bayville- his home of almost three years.

"Scott! The mansion's gone nuts!" He suddenly heard. Scott looked behind him and saw Amara and Tabitha in Lance's car.

"What? Boom-Boom, what are you-"

"I came to talk to Xavier about Mystique and the mansion started shooting at me! Amara was barely able to get in the car!" Scott looked at his phone and saw several messages from Madelyne about the X-Men leaving and then the mansion locking down. He grabbed his visor from his car and jumped in the driver's seat of Lance's car. The three took off towards the Institute.

"Amara, what happened?"

"The main team and the Brotherhood left. Bobby and I tried to go with them, but we didn't make it in time. They took the Blackbird and the helicopter."

"Who flew?"

"Corsair stayed behind. Or, more like Professor Xavier told him it was no place for a non-mutant."

"Corsair is an expert marksman and pilot-"

"Who is Corsair?" Tabitha asked. "And why is someone who isn't a mutant in a home for mutants?" Scott ignored her as he pulled up to the Institute.

"DEFCON Four? No… this was supposed to just keep Sinister out! Who the hell set security to the highest level?!"

"We don't know! It just went crazy!" Scott growled in aggravation.

"Ok," he said. "Get around to the back. We're going to have to climb in." He led Magma and Boom-Boom to the base of the cliff. He tried climbing up, but after falling for the third time, he shook his head.

"What do we do?" Amara asked.

"Melt a hole. We can't keep wasting time." Amara nodded and quickly made a hole in the cliff, showing the underground portion of the Institute. "Let's go!" The three ran in, blasting, melting, and bombing their way up. Scott got to the security room and attempted to put in his override password, but it wasn't working.

"Cyclops! What do we do?!" Bobby asked.

"Bunkers! Get everyone to the bunkers, now!" Bobby ran out and started yelling for everyone to take the passage from the Institute to the bunkers. Scott ran after him and saw Chris carrying Madelyne, running to the bunkers, with Alex, Hepzibah, and Gabriel not far behind him.

"Let's go!"

"I've got to make sure everyone else is coming!" Scott called, racing away. He looked behind him and saw Chris continue towards the passage to the bunkers. Scott saw Bobby and Sam trying to drag Jamie to safety.

"Everyone else is headed to the bunker!" Scott nodded and threw Jamie over his shoulder. They started heading down to the passage when they heard "Self destruction in 10...9...8…-"

"What do we do?" Sam asked. "We're gonna die!" Scott shook his head and led them in the opposite direction. He opened the door to Cerebro and ushered Bobby and Sam inside. The doors closed.

"We need a slide to the bottom!" Bobby nodded and created an ice slide. The four got to the bottom where Scott and Bobby quickly covered the two younger boys to protect them from the falling debris.

"Are we… are we alive?" Bobby asked once things had stopped falling. He sat up and realized his shirt was destroyed, as was Scott's.

"I hope so, or Corsair will kill me." Scott sat up as well and helped Sam to his feet. "You two ok?"

"Yeah, Scott. Are you?"

"I'm fine. What happened to Jamie?"

"Hit his head trying to get out of the mansion."

"Ok. We need to get him checked out. And we need to get away from here so we don't keep breathing the dust in. Um, here," he said, seeing how his shirt was already in tatters. He ripped strands off and held them out. "Put this over your nose and mouth. It'll keep the worst of it away." Bobby and Sam did as Scott said. Scott put a piece of his shirt over Jamie's mouth and nose.

"How do we get out?"

"Ice?" Scott asked Bobby. Bobby nodded and raised them up on ice. Scott stepped out on the floor and helped Sam and Bobby step over.

"Now what?"

"We need to get to the bunkers." Scott tried leading them to the passageway, but it was completely blocked.

"Can you blast your way through?" Sam asked. "Or I can Cannonball-"

"No. What if this is the only thing holding this part of the mansion up? It'd kill us before we had a chance. No, we need… we need to get to the other entrance."

"Where is that?" Sam asked as they started walking.

"The woods. That new gazebo." Sam nodded and the two followed Scott, who was still carrying Jamie, out of the ruined Institute.

"It's a good thing we finished the bunkers when we did," Bobby said. "Can you imagine all of us being in there?"

"I'm glad I don't have to." Scott shifted Jamie and they continued walking. *Maddie?*

*SCOTT! Oh thank God! Are you hurt?!*

*I'm fine. Is everyone ok in there?*

"We're all safe! The lights flickered for a moment, but that was it.*

*Ok. The passage in the mansion was blocked. We're headed to the other entrance. Jamie is knocked out, but Sam and Bobby are ok, too.*

*Do you have your phone?*

*Yeah.* Scott felt his phone ring and he stopped walking. He tossed the phone to Bobby, who answered it.

"Corsair," he said. "No, Scott's carrying Jamie and needs both hands. His head is bleeding, but I don't think he noticed. We're bruised, but we're ok. Jamie was hurt before the blast. We're almost to the entrance now. No- Scott!" Bobby and Sam ran to Scott, whose knees had started to buckle. He fell, doing his best to keep Jamie safe. "Corsair, we need you," Bobby said before hanging up. He and Sam pulled Jamie away from Scott.

"Scotty?"

"I- I'm fine. Just need a minute," he said, panting. Scott felt a hand on his back and he looked up. "Dad, I'm sorry. I tried-"

"You protected your team. Let me help now." Scott nodded and allowed Chris to help pull him up. Chris leaned down and picked up Jamie, allowing Scott to lean on him on the other side. They made it to the gazebo and Chris put in a specific code, bringing up the lift hidden under the floor of the gazebo. Sam and Bobby went down first. It was sent back up a few minutes later and Chris helped Scott onto the lift. They went down and Scott let Alex and Gabriel help him off of the lift. They sat him in a chair as Chris took Jamie to a room.

"What happened?" Alex asked.

"The mansion blew up. Just like Nate said it would."

"What do we do?" Madelyne asked as she walked over to Scott with a first aid kit.

"I need to go wait for the team to get back and tell them we're safe. We'll call a contractor and get the Institute built again. We'll be fine." Scott hissed at the antiseptic being put on his wound.

"It should be all of us," she said. "Show the Brotherhood that they can't destroy the X-Men." Scott scowled, remembering what he saw on the screen.

"It was more than them." Chris came and took over cleaning Scott's head for Madelyne.

"I'm proud of you," Chris said quietly. "You came back and took control during a terrifying situation. I don't know if I could have done as well as you with protecting your team."

"I'm a Summers," Scott said with a sad smile.

"And I'm damn proud to be your father." Chris put a bandage on Scott's head and pulled him into a hug. "I love you," he whispered.

"Love you, too, Dad," Scott said in a normal volume. "We should head up. I don't know when they'll be back." Chris nodded.

"You wanna change?" Scott looked at his shirt and shook his head.

"I want them to see how close we were to-" Scott was cut off as Chris pulled him into a hug again.

"Xavier had better give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill him," he growled. "He let those damn fools into our home and they-"

"No," Scott said, pushing Chris away. "They're not completely to blame." Scott took a breath and then went to check on Jamie. Jamie was still unconscious and Scott looked around in thought.

"I'll stay with him," Madelyne offered. "We'll be ok for a few minutes." Scott kissed Madelyne, forcing her against the wall.

"I love you," he panted as they pulled apart.

"I love you, too," she said with a small smile.

"I have to go be Cyclops." Madelyne ran a gentle hand down the side of Scott's face.

"Be safe." Scott kissed her again before walking out. He saw the New Recruits standing around Chris and Hepzibah.

"Hepzibah will stay with Maddie-girl," Hepzibah offered. Chris kissed her and handed her one of his guns.

"Protect our grandchildren," he said quietly.

"Hepzibah will keep Scott-boy's kitlings safe, lover. Corsair will keep Hepzibah's kitlings safe." Chris nodded and then turned to Scott.

"It's your show, Cyclops."

"We need to greet the X-Men and send the Brotherhood packing," Scott told the New Recruits. "They have no place in our home. Not when they distract us to set our home up to destroy itself." The students nodded and followed Scott to the lift. Scott sent Chris up with the first group of students. He stayed until the last group went up, including Boom-Boom.

"So… who's that guy? Is that Corsair?"

"Yeah," Scott answered.

"Was that his daughter who's pregnant? Maddie, right?"

"In a way, I guess she is." The lift pulled up into the gazebo and they exited, meeting up with everyone else.

"How do you want to do this, son?"

"I'll bring up the rear. Not that you guys can't handle it, but… Havok, Vulcan. I want you two by me." Alex and Gabriel quickly flocked their brother. "Corsair, take point. Protect the students." Chris nodded and pulled out another gun from his Starjammers days. He led the teens out of the woods. They saw the X-Men had landed and were frantically calling for them while looking in the rubble.

"We're over here," Bobby said. Jean turned and saw them. She ran to Scott and hugged him.

"I thought you were dead," she whispered.

"We're not. All of us made it." Jean nodded and Scott gently pushed her away from him as he stalked over to Charles. He grabbed his jacket and lifted him in the air. "You. You did this!" Scott threw Charles to the ground as Chris and Alex did their best to restrain Scott. They heard Xavier start laughing as he stood up.

"And things are about to get much worse," Mystique announced. Chris let Scott go and aimed his gun at the shapeshifter.
