Chapter 15: Succored
Sitting around the fire the group began their share of information. Hekapoo gave her family and clone a brief overview of how she got into her memories and the wild things she had seen. Heptus told her the fate of Mewni and the cause of their jump to the past. The battles they encountered and glimpses of the future.
During their conversations Hekapoo's clone noticed something different about her prime self. She couldn't put her fingers on it but she seemed at peace, despite everything happening.
"Grandpa I don't know that dance!" Maryloo exclaimed happily watching Glossaryk dance near the fire
"Well my little autumn flame, watch grandpa and I teach ya!" he said grooving near the flames
Hekapoo watched the scene as she took in her family having a good time in spite of the current events. In the corner of her eye she turned to see her clone looking at her with a concerned expression on her face.
"Can I...talk to you….alone" the clone asked unable to look her in the eye
"Yeah, I guess..." she stated standing
The two excused themselves as they travelled back over to the practice area the clone had created near her beach cove.
"I guess this is far enough…" the clone stated with her back facing Hekapoo
"So...with Heptus and Maryloo being here I guess that means…"
Facing Hekapoo the clone gave her a pained expression, with it written all over her face it was clear she was conflicted with the confusing circumstances coming to light. One part of her was happy beyond reason but the other…
"I guess that means you like him right…" she trailed off
Hekapoo, taken aback by the sudden question, looked away embarrassed of what she was about to say.
"No...I...I love him" she said with a smile on her face thinking about him
"Why…." the clone said quietly under her breath
"Huh?"
"WHY!?" the clone screamed tears run down her face
"He left us for years and came back without a valid reason! I don't understand why you would love someone like that! Aren't you hurt?! Aren't you scared he's going to do it again?!"
It was strange, for a long time she did feel that way, everyday was terrifying in the thought that he was dead or worse he hated her. Every second of everyday in agonizing pain that she was alone again. That's what this was all really about, the fact that she couldn't stand being alone. Irrespective of her extreme bravado and sassy nature she was really afraid. Deeply afraid of going back to when everything started for her. Afraid of the monster that was still locked in back of her clone's mind. Marco was her savior and him disappearing was the ultimate betrayal in her mind. She had become used to him being around and the love she had for him became twisted with fear. Before she knew it she had become wrapped around his finger and fallen deeply in love with him. Two spirits made for each other entangled forever with no regard for distance or time.
Hekapoo closed her eyes and focused her thoughts on Marco, he was nowhere to be seen but she could feel him. To her surprise she felt a strong pull to her right, like a magnet she could feel where he was. Feeling at peace she smiled to herself as she realized what was happening, focusing one again she set her mind on Heptus. Feeling the same magnetic feeling change direction behind her to where he sat at the campfire. This was a new ability she gained once again because of her love for someone instead of focusing on her fear of being alone. Focusing once again she set her mind to her daughter Maryloo. The same magnetic feeling suddenly started spinning around her while jumping to random positions rapidly picking up speed, making her feel nauseous. Releasing the ability she felt herself return to normal and confirmed what she had assumed since meeting her youngest daughter. She was not in any shape, way or form normal. Even by magic standards; she was an anomaly. It was like she was here but she also wasn't.
Opening her eyes once more she could see the clear anxiety and fear in her clone's eyes. What she used to be like and a clear reflection of how far she had come in such a short amount of time. While she had grown her clones had not, they were a mix of fear and extreme stress that she hadn't corrected before coming into this memory.
Walking forward toward her clone she intended to fix the mistakes she made and the people she hurt the most. Herself.
Afraid of what she was intending, the clone took a few steps back in fear.
"Didn't you hear me!" she yelled
"Why are you so focused on forgiving him, when he's still doing this! I know there's people after us but when hasn't there been people trying to kill us, it's part of the job! The job you wanted so bad! I don't get what changed!"
Hekapoo continued forward to her clone with her arms open before her.
"Because….you love him so much it hurts to think he doesn't love you. Your children are sitting on that beach and yet you're still afraid of being alone. Maryloo thinks the world of you and yet this is still on your mind."
"I get it, but I've come to understand that all those issues I had were issues that I had myself. I'm not going to lie, I'm not fixed one-hundred percent but I accepted what happened to me and what we buried away. I love Marco, I love the future we can clearly see with him. It scares me to think we died in the future and left our children alone but I can see their father in them. They never stop fighting and even came back here to the past to stop the future."
Hekapoo approached her clone and embraced her into a warm hug. Unable to keep her emotions in check, her clone let everything out while Hekapoo held her. Entwining her fingers with her clone she placed her forehead on her clone's.
"I love him so much, I just don't want to lose him again…" the clone cried
"We'll never lose him again I promise you that"
Concentrating her new powers she focused on her clone. Feeling the magnetic pull the clone's eyes open wide as she realized what she meant.
"So that's what he does to us….figures" she said lightly chuckling
"Can you do me a favor when you see next see him" the clone asked
"What's that" Hekapoo asked
"What we've been hiding...I want him to know that I love him" she stated
"I promise the next time I see him that's not the only thing I'm going to do" Hekapoo replied
"Then protect them…" the clone said smiling before vanishing
The temperature of the area raised suddenly while a massive pillar of flame danced wildly around Hekapoo. The pillar shined as brilliant as the sun briefly turned the very night into day. The nearby trees began to smoke as the immediate heat turned the area into an oven. As the pillar dissipated Hekapoo stood in the middle of what was now a glass terrain stretched fifty feet in every direction.
Extending her hand forward, flames exploded forward with way more power and force then what she was used to causing her to lose her footing. Feeling arms catching her she looked up to see her son standing there with Maryloo and Glossaryk.
"Looks like someone finally figured it out" Glossaryk said proudly
"Mommy, you have your powers again!" Maryloo exclaimed
Picking her daughter up and kissing her on the forehead, she took a look at her grown son. She hated how she never got to see him grow up into the man he was today. But she knew how to fix that.
"Heptus, gather some metal from the hut, we're leaving"
"Where are we going?" he asked
Hekapoo put Maryloo down and gave them all a look of confidence.
"We're going to go find your dad"
