The Weasleygirls

Chapter 35 – Too much of a good thing

Over the next two weeks, Ron and Hermione had gathered their thoughts on the new situation and were finally ready to tell their whole family.

Hermione had completed the first trimester of her pregnancy unnoticed. The critical phase, in which the risk of miscarriage was higher, was now over. Hermione was preparing breakfast for Ron and herself. She was cooking bacon and eggs and made some toasting bread when Ron entered the kitchen and saw Hermione standing by the stove.

"Mione?" he asked and gave her a kiss on top of her head. Hermione turned to Ron and smiled. "Good morning, love!"

"What are you doing?"

"How do you mean that? Well, I'm making breakfast, as you can see!" she answered a little confused. Ron stopped her and took the cooking spoon out of her hand.

"You shouldn't exert yourself, dear. Just sit down and rest, okay? I'll take care of it."

"Ron... I'm not sick, I'm pregnant! And besides I am fine and the baby is fine. I don't overexert myself!" Hermione said slightly annoyed

"I know you're not sick, Mione. But I can still do this and spoil you a little. Okay?"

He smiled at Hermione and stroked her cheek. Hermione knew she had no chance. She sat down at the kitchen table and stirred her tea with her spoon. Ron was caring, but by the time they learned that Hermione was pregnant, he became overprotective. Even when Hermione got up and had to go to the toilet, he would worry immediately, or would always ask her if she doesn't feel well. Hermione sighed loudly. Ron dropped the cooking spoon. With a loud "plong" it landed in the sink and Ron went straight to Hermione.

"Mione… Are you alright? Do you need a healer?"

Hermione looked into his wonderful blue eyes in which she saw so much concern. Still she was annoyed that she couldn't even blow her nose unobserved. Hermione stroked Ron's cheek and smiled a little.

"Ron, everything's fine, okay? Please don't worry so much. We're fine."

"Are you sure?"

Hermione looked past Ron and noticed that the bacon Was nearly burning in the pan. Smoke rose up and spread throughout the kitchen.

"No…" Hermione answered slightly amused.

"No?"

Hermione looked at Ron again and smiled. She patted Ron's cheek with her hand. "The bacon is about to burn, Mr. Weasley!"

Ron jumped up and ran to the cooker. He immediately pulled out his wand and extinguished the bacon in the pan. A great cloud of smoke rose up and Ron made it disappear with his wand. He now breathed heavily and Hermione flicked through a magazine for "expectant magical parents" that Ron had bought her. She smiled slightly as Ron cleaned up the dirt and then turned to Hermione.

"Don't say anything…"

"I don't know what you mean." Hermione made notes on a piece of parchment and continued to grin to herself. Ron now fetched the bread, bacon and eggs that hadn't burnt yet and joined her at the table. They started breakfast and after a while of silence Hermione looked at Ron.

" So? Have you thought about it?" she asked.

Ron, who was completely absorbed in his food, now looked up with wrinkles on his forehead.

"Thought about what?"

"Well... Tomorrow is Sunday, and what do we do every Sunday?"

Ron bit off his sausage and chewed thoughtlessly with his mouth almost open. Hermione rolled up her newspaper and hit Ron on the head. He now looked at Hermione, startled and outraged at the same time.

"whaff thaff forrr..?" He asked chewing his sausage.

"Ronald... Please close your mouth when you chew and just for your information.. Tomorrow is family dinner at the Burrow. And we wanted to announce it there, if you remember!?"

Ron swallowed the rest of his food.

"Bloody hell!"

"Ron, language!"

Ron cleared his throat and smiled apologetically at Hermione. "I'm sorry, love... I just forgot it was Sunday tomorrow. We're really going to announce it tomorrow?"

Hermione shrugged and took a sip of tea. She held her cup in her hand and warmed her hands a little. That was a side effect of Hermione's pregnancy at the moment. It was still summer, yet she kept freezing and even wrapped herself in blankets during the day.

"Well, we have to tell it at some point. Or we can wait until my belly is huge…"

Ron looked at her with big eyes, making her laugh.

"Ron... it was a joke!"

"Well okay, tomorrow then." He sighed.

So it was a deal for Ron and Hermione that they would announce the pregnancy the next day at the big family dinner at the Burrow.

Before they knew it, the next day had come and Hermione and Ron stood nervously before their fireplace in Shell Cottage.

"Okay, um... Shall we?" Ron asked her.

"Yes!Or ...no, wait…"

Ron was about to take a handful of floo powder, but stopped immediately

"What's wrong, honey?"

"I have got to use the toilet.."

Hermione ran past Ron, into the bathroom. But instead of her going to the toilet, Ron heard her throwing up. He immediately rushed to the bathroom and went to her. Hermione crouched in front of the toilet and was pretty pale.

"Mione! What is it?"

He wet a towel and wiped Hermione's face with it carefully.

"I thought your nausea had subsided?"

"I thought so too."

"Did you take the potion?"

"No, because I felt better!" she justified herself.

Ron helped Hermione up, who stood up again and washed her face.

"Mione, I told you to keep taking that potion…"

"Ron, I know what I'm doing, okay?" Hermione left the bathroom but Ron went after her into the kitchen.

"Apparently you don't know that after all."

Hermione rolled her eyes and drank a glass of water. Ron leaned against the table and had his arms crossed.

"You shouldn't have put the potion down…"

"Ron, please drop that subject!" Hermione became more and more annoyed.

"No, I won't! It seems you really don't know what you're doing to yourself and OUR baby. Because of the constant vomiting you could suffer from nutrient deficiency and the baby will be malnourished or not properly fed and will not grow properly!"

"Ron! Stop it now!"

Hermione ran out of the kitchen again and Ron went after her into the living room. He was beginning to get angry and felt completely misunderstood by Hermione. He thought she didn't take his worries seriously and that she was irresponsible.

"Don't run away from me, Hermione!"

"You really drive me crazy, Ron!" she screamed at him angrily. Ron looked at her in shock that she was suddenly so angry.

"What?" He asked flabbergasted.

"Yes... Since we found out I was pregnant, I can't do anything on my own. You keep watching me, asking if I'm okay... And then you won't even let me go to the bathroom alone. Ron, I'm not sick, okay? And I can take care of myself well enough…"

"Yeah sure... You just put down the potion against the nausea and then you are feeling unwell just like a few minutes ago... You are completely irresponsible!"

Hermione looked at Ron shocked. "What did you just say?"

"You heard me... You think just because you're a healer, you can stop taking those potions! But you don't even think about whether you are harming our unborn child."

"You know what, Mr. Smart-arse? You can go to the Burrow by yourself today! I'm sick of you, Ronald Weasley!" Hermione stomped off in a huff and went up to the bedroom.

All Ron could hear was her slamming the door. He sighed and sat down on the settee. Ron put his head in his hands and thought. 'Maybe I overreacted and Hermione is right that I'm treating her like a child all the time and that she can't do anything without me… But I am worried and I just want our baby to be born healthy.'

Ron thought about it for a long time and was about to go up to Hermione's room, but he noticed her coming down and going into the kitchen. Ron got up from the settee and walked slowly to the kitchen. Hermione poured herself some pumpkin juice and drank the glass empty immediately. She placed it in the sink and supported herself on the worktop with both hands. Ron heard her sobbing and noticed Hermione caress her belly. Ron walked slowly towards her and then hugged her gently from behind. He kissed her tenderly on the cheek and stroked her still flat stomach.

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean... I didn't mean to hurt you, Love. I just worry so much." He said sorrowfully.

Hermione turned in his embrace so she could look at him. "I know and that's sweet of you, but…"

"But I'm not supposed to treat you like a child, am I?"

"Yes…"

"I'm really sorry. I'll pull myself together. Please just tell me if something is wrong, okay? And I promise not to ask you the whole time of everything is fine!"

Hermione just nodded and Ron caressed her cheek. "Can you forgive me again? I'm really so sorry…" Ron made a pout, so Hermione had to smile a bit.

"Of course I forgive you, you sweet idiot. I do love you!"

"I love you too! I'm sorry. I really am!"

Hermione pulled him towards her and now kissed him on the mouth. Ron smiled against her lips and just as things were beginning to get more intense and longing, the two of them separated and smiled at each other.

"I think we should go to the Burrow. I don't want your mom to file a missing persons report…" Hermione said.

"I guess you're right."

Both laughed a little and gave each other another kiss. Ron took Hermione's hand and went with her into the living room. There they took a handful of the floo powder and a few seconds later they were standing in the living room of the Burrow, which was already flooded with so many voices that both knew they were quite late.
