As the final day dawns, David decides to take Esmeralda and Glacius to the event site when Sachiko and Alphamon drive by to come get him.

"Listen, Ishihara. About…" Esmeralda started.

"I know what you're going to say, Es. And don't worry, I already knew." David said.

"You did? Then, why didn't you say anything?" Esmeralda asked.

"What good would it have done? I don't expect you to forgive me. I've made a lot of enemies in my travels. Most of them want me dead too. So don't worry. I understand how you feel." David said. "It reminded me of Cheetah in a way, we initially became enemies, and she came after me because of something I did that left a hole in her heart. The only way she could fill it at the time was by fighting me."

"...But you are certain that Theodore is still alive, right?" Glacius asked.

"We're not sure as of yet. We barely heard anything about him since our battle at Infernity Tower. But if there's one thing we know about the Flux Family, it's that they are a tenacious bunch." Alphamon said from inside the sound system.

"Yeah...we've met enough of them to know they hardly ever die or stay dead." Sachiko said.

"We would know that because we had a Flux Family member in our class all along." David said.

"Oh, you better hope Akira didn't hear you say that." Sachiko said.

"But all the same, if fighting me is the only way the hole in your heart can be filled, Es… Then once the Games are over, the next world we meet, I'll fight you until the cows come home. Just please, don't drag innocent people into it, or anyone that doesn't have anything to do with it." David said.

"You are sure?" Esmeralda asked.

"Yes, I'm certain. That's usually the best way to clear your mind of doubts. Believe us, we know." David said.

"I see… You really are as wise as the visions I have received have shown. And while we're still in here, I'll just say...thank you for going out of your way to look for us yesterday." Esmeralda said.

"Heh. Don't worry about it. Someone has to keep things under control in these times, you know. And you shouldn't be thanking me. You should be thanking my boss." David said.

"We will keep that in mind." Glacius said.

"For now...let's just...see things finish up." Esmeralda said.

"Yes...we shouldn't keep everyone waiting." Alphamon said as they took off to the site.

"Okay...here we are ladies and gents! The final day of the Olympic Games! We've had a number of action packed days but now we're about to see them all wrap up in one final event to decide things once and for all...the Marathon! The path is simple. You race around the track that was planned out and sent to each team and run it until you make it back here. But be aware, we wouldn't want things to get too boring so we set up a few obstacles along the way." Magenta said. "But no worries. Each team has two members competing so if one falls, the other can carry their teammate's hopes over all the way to the finish!"

"Nice...they're making it sound more exciting by the minute." Jexi said.

"Yeah...that's the word they're looking for." Izuku said.

"Oh yeah. May have missed out watching yesterday but now I'm here to see things through." Theo said.

"This is the finale, so let's give this all we've got!" David said.

"We don't plan on giving up at any point." Riku said.

"Hehe...guess some people can't keep waiting. Okay...start running...now!" Magenta said as she fired the starter's pistol as the 32 runners took off.

"Wow...they all left so quickly." Ivy said.

"Yeah, it's anyone's guess who will win this one." Heiwa said.

"All we can do is watch and see who comes out on top." Byleth said.

"Yes, it's quite an enjoyable pastime isn't it?" a voice said.

"You got that…" Asta was saying before they saw it was Arthur who said it.

"Arthur?" Spade asked.

"You're standing here...in plain sight...as a wanted crook." Frosta said.

"It's fine. Hiding in a crowd usually helps to keep me hidden." Arthur said as he sat down.

"You sure it's not because of what happened?" Hope asked.

"So, you figured that much out huh?" Arthur said. "Honestly, I'm more relieved no one has been killed."

"What are you talking about? Didn't you…" Mermista asked.

"As if I would deface myself by sabotaging one of the biggest sporting events in mankind's history. No...quite the opposite...I came to punish the one who decided to go against our rules and hold an outrageous grudge." Arthur said.

"So then, one of the people who attacked Theo, Esmeralda and Glacius was formerly one of your guys?" Bow asked.

"Not quite. To be more exact, they're someone who can't let something so simple go." Arthur said.

"Let go? What are you talking about? We never did anything to them." Hope said.

"Not on purpose." Arthur said as he caught a strange cube flying by. "Seems he's already made his way in undetected. A piece of one of his cards."

"Cards? You can't be serious? It's him?!" Sachiko said.

"It's all my fault. I should have paid better attention to how he felt instead of just simply dismissing it." Arthur said.

"Lan?" Ace asked.

"I think so. Seems like he took his loss to Double D worse than we thought." Sachiko said.

"Throughout his life, Lan has been nothing but a prodigal card game player. He's never lost any game he's ever played. Honestly...he should have lost a long time ago. A loss now has ruined his state of mind, putting him on the focus of one objective...Win. Crush the heroes and become a winner again...no matter what." Arthur said.

"Wow. I didn't think someone like him could take a loss that far." Kagura said.

"Dammit…" Hope gripped his hand. "I warned him back then on Lyoko… that if he continued down the path to prove his existence in our world, that he would some day lead himself to destruction. I could have stopped him right there when we fought, but we just let him go."

"It's not your fault. Lan has always been difficult. But now...he's about to cross a line he may never come back from." Arthur said.

"I'm sorry this happened." Ace said.

"Let's hope for their sake...they can break him free of his delusions." Arthur said looking out to the course.

Back on the course, the runners continued to run the track as they would notice strange cubes flying all around.

"Whoa...are these the obstacles? The staff really went all out for this." Theo said.

"No… I don't think it was supposed to be this erratic." David said.

"Yeah...I gotta agree." Jexi said as they saw a figure standing on one of the cubes. "Look at that...we got a guest runner joining us."

"Runner? No. But...I am going to win." they said turning around and revealing themselves as Lan.

"Lan Highhand… So, I was on the mark somewhat. It was you." David said.

"Yeah, that's him. That's the guy who attacked me that night." Theo said.

"But why? Why go so far as to resort to sabotage?" Cheetah asked.

"Sabotage? No...that was never my intention. I came to Tokyo and the games with one aim in mind...I want to win." Lan said.

"That doesn't make any sense. Why didn't you register, then?" David asked. "Is your tarnished pride so much of a priority that you have simply lost all common sense?"

"Win...I will win." Lan said as a dark looking creature with two arms appeared behind him. "Attack, Duza, the Meteor Cubic Vessel!" Lan ordered as it moved at the group.

"Uh oh… We better keep moving." David said.

Duza attacked the runners as it tried to smash the runners with its arms. Magenta was recording the whole thing.

"Wh-What's going on?! A Duel Monsters card just showed up outta nowhere and started attacking the runners!" Magenta said zooming in on Lan. "Wait.. is that? It is! It's Lan Highhand! A…" Magenta said.

"You're in my way!" Lan said as Duza struck Magenta's hover stand.

"Ah!" Magenta called out before Spectra went and grabbed her. "Thank you."

"Damn...what is wrong with this guy?" Spectra said as he started to keep up with the others.

"Well...not like I'm gonna comment from the sidelines. Been awhile since I was part of the action." Magenta said as she started running after them.

"This behavior has gone far beyond insanity. He can't contain his ego at this point." David said.

"Maybe it has to do with that monster." Ajna said.

"No...he's not being controlled. But...there is a hold on his heart. I can feel that he's in a lot of pain." Theo said.

"Well we can't just stop to beat him up. We're in the middle of a marathon." Lucy said.

"Actually… This might work to our advantage." Leopardmon said.

"What are you talking about?" Neila asked.

"Eventually, we will have to cross the finish line. But...nothing says how long it has to take us to get there." Leonora said.

"Yeah. We'll cut him off at the final leg." UlforceVeedramon said.

"You can't escape. Let's see….ah...next up...I call up Vijam the Cubic Seed!" Lan said, creating a strange seed-like monster. "Not much of a fighter...but Duza can easily make up for that. Crush them!"

"Flock off!" Simon said, kicking it back.

"Man, this is what I get for coming underprepared…" Siege commented as all the chaos was happening. "...Wait, they never said anything that both of us had to cross the line, right Neila?"

"Siege, you're not seriously thinking about facing him, are you!?" Neila would ask.

"It's like they said: It doesn't matter how long it takes us to finish, and technically, only one of us needs to finish." Siege said, looking back at Lan. "Besides, what better way to pay back my new allies I made than to fight off the threat trying to ruin this entire thing so that they all don't have to?"

"Hmm...I don't recognize you. Doesn't matter though...you'll be another piece to throw on the victory pile!" Lan said. "Ah...just what I was hoping for. I summon another Vijam. But they won't stay for long. I tribute all three Cubic monsters in order to bring this one out!" Lan said as the three monsters vanished as rising up was a large white and blue beast. "Behold! Indiora Doom Volt, the Cubic Emperor!"

"Well now… he wants a duel, eh? Luckily for him, I can summon my dueling pieces at will. Go on, guys. I'll take the challenge." Siege said, soon stopping, morphing back into his original clothing, a strange but radiant duel disk appearing on his wrist. "Lan, I accept your challenge for a duel, and I believe you made the first move!" Siege said. "So, make the final adjustments to your side of the field, so I may take my turn!"

"Duel? This is no game...it's my victory parade!" Lan called out as Indiora charged at Siege.

"Ha, in that case, let me combat Indiora with my own set of monsters! Draw! I place down three Banners of Courage! Now I send them to the graveyard to bring out a beast of unparalleled power!" Siege yelled, as thunder struck the field, stopping Indiora as great power surged around Siege. "Prepare yourself, for I call upon the master of storms and catastrophic events with them! I bring forth… HAMON, LORD OF STRIKING THUNDER!" Siege declared, as the giant beast of Thunder roared out as it was summoned for all to see, roaring in great power.

Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder

DEF: 4000

"Your power...it's like mine…" Lan said.

"Did I say I was finished?" Siege said with a devious smirk. "First, I activate Double Summon, allowing me another monster to summon, I summon Sangan! Now by using Raigeki, I will send him to the graveyard, allowing me to bring to my hand another Fiend Monster! I choose Dark Resonator! Now I'll activate Monster Reborn, summoning Sangan back to my field in Defense position! I place two cards face down, that ends my turn!"

As Lan was about to begin his turn, Siege soon smirked when he drew his card. "Your turn has started, which means my trap can now take effect! Nightmare Wheel! I use it on Indiora, preventing him from attacking or changing battle position, and now you take 500 points of direct damage to your Life Points!"

"How….this guy...he's overwhelming me." Lan said, feeling pain. "No one has ever shown this sort of ferocity in a match I've played in before. Yet, I feel so...ecstatic. But...I have to win...but...why do I have to win?" he pondered thinking back to his past, his long string of victories up to the point where he ended up in the universes and joined the Lost Thieves and then to his loss against the heroes. "Why...did it matter so much to me...again?"

"If you're serious about this then don't keep me waiting, surrender or make your move, Lan!" Siege said from his side of the field. "After all, my friends are wanting to finish their race, and I would hate to have Hamon accidentally hurt them."

"Friends…" Lan said as he looked around. "Right...I've ended up making things hard for everyone here. I am such a fool." he said laughing. "Well go on. Don't keep me waiting. Hit me with all you got." he said smiling with his arms wide open.

"In that case… draw! Alright then! I activate Pot of Greed, allowing me to draw 2 cards! Now I activate Card Destruction, allowing me to discard my two cards to draw 5 more! Another Monster Reborn allows me to bring back one of those monsters, which was another Dark Resonator! I summon my other Dark Resonator, and now Tribute them all! I summon to my field Raviel, Lord of Phantasms!" Siege yelled out, as Raviel appeared on his field, boasting the same stats as Hamon. "I place one card face down, now I activate them both, since you pass your turn again, Call of the Haunted, two to be exact! Bringing back both of my Dark Resonators! I now send my three Continuous Trap Cards to the graveyard, and I summon Uria, Lord Of Searing Flames!"

"And now that all three mythical beasts are on my field, I send them all to the graveyard, and they fuse! To become a fiend of pure nightmare and destruction, a fiend that no one lives to tell the tale of facing! COME FORTH! ARMITYLE, THE CHAOS PHANTOM!" Siege yelled, as the fusion of Hamon, Uria, and Raviel appeared.

"And now its effect kicks in, on my turn, it gains 10,000 Attack points! Go, Armityle! Obliterate Indiora with your nightmarish might!" Siege yelled, as a dark beam coated in flames and lightning shot from the heads of Uria, Hamon, and Raviel towards Indiora and Lan both.

"Heh...well...I lost. But somehow...this one...doesn't feel so bad." Lan said as the blast knocked him off the platform. As he fell to the ground, Jexi went and jumped and grabbed him.

"Damn...you really caused a lot of trouble over a loss, didn't you?" Jexi said looking at the unconscious Lan.

"Some people just handle losses less than others. I know how that feels." Siege said.

Richard then rushed back, as Gus was close behind him.

"Siege, Richard. Sorry we had to drag you into one of our problems in the middle of all this." Jexi said.

"It's not a problem." Richard answered back. "I should have known that guy Lan had a bit of a sore spot for things, enough to warrant this kind of thing. I was prepared to snipe out his monsters in the distance, but I guess Siege took the cake for this one. Never thought he had the makings of a damn good duelist."

"Yeah...I'm pretty good at the game." Siege remarked. "Didn't think I would find someone who could make his monsters real here. Still, it wasn't an issue to deal with this, Jexi. I'm always eager to help out, especially people like you."

"Yeah...the others are probably already crossing the finish as we speak. We shouldn't keep them waiting." Jexi said, putting Lan over his shoulder.

"Wait, where's Neila…" Gus stated, before Richard began to laugh heartily. "Richard?"

"Of course, like me and Heiwa, Siege stayed behind to deal with the mess, while Neila made the sprint for the team…" Richard stated. "Well, guess we're not winning any medals, but we can still try our best to make the final sprint! Come on, all of you, let's make the push together!"

"Yeah!" Jexi said as he grabbed Siege, Richard and Gus. "Here we go!" he said dashing off with the three holding onto him, as Richard stabilised the footing.

"...Heh, you're too kind of a heart, Jexi." Richard smirked, as Jexi dashed through the area, matching up with the majority of the running pack.

"Wouldn't be fair for you to stay behind to clean up our mess. Besides...we're all friends here. So why shouldn't I help them out?" Jexi said.

"I agree, why not? That's what heroes are for, right?" Gus agreed.

"Yeah, that's what heroes are for." Siege said with a smile, smiling at this gesture from Jexi.

While Neila, David and Riku crossed the finish ahead of everyone else, the quartet made a strong finish as they crossed together at the same time.

A little later...before the closing ceremonies…

"Ugh...where…" Lan groaned before looking up at the groups. "Where...am I?"

"In the infirmary on the Galaxy King. Wanted to make sure you were okay." Jexi said.

"Right...that guy...he beat me down so easily." Lan chuckled.

"You shouldve really listened to me, you idiot." Hope teased playfully.

"Uh huh...who are you again?" Lan said.

"Are you serious right now?!" Hope said.

"Hahaha. Gotcha. I know who you are, Hope the Victor." Lan said. "Brave hero of the Shining Hope Squad."

"There were no casualties either." Ace said.

"Why did you do all of this?" Theo asked.

"All my life...I've won at every tournament I ever competed in. It felt all so easy. Winning every time. But...it became boring. Then I came to this world and met Arthur...I joined the Lost Thieves and winning was a lot more fun. But then...that day when you outsmarted and beat me. It felt like...everything came crashing down in front of me. Like...My life has no meaning anymore. I thought if I beat you all on a public stage...I could reclaim the streak." Lan said.

"But it doesn't work like that. Believe me, I know." Cheetah said.

"She's right, you can't win all the time, sometimes you end up losing no matter how experienced you are." Ace said.

"He's right you know." Arthur said standing at the end of the bed.

"Sir…" Lan said. "I ended up causing you so much trouble. I…" he said before a strange cube was tossed before him. "The Infinite Storage Cube...the one with all my cards."

"Lan...I did all I could to raise you into a proper thief but...it seems I failed to show you what you actually needed. Lan Highhand...as of this moment...you are expelled from the Lost Thieves." Arthur said.

"I… I see. I have no one to blame for this result but myself." Lan said.

"You got that right." Siege said, as he came into view. "You take winning and losing way too seriously… heh… reminds me of how I was when I was younger. Full of energy and having the mindset of wanting nothing to do but win. If I won, then people would be proud of me… but when I lost for the first time in my life, I realized how wrong I was… Winning, Losing, they go hand in hand. On one side, Winning bestows a sense of pride and glory to your name, something you crave if it gets to your head. However, Losing grants you something as well: Humility, wisdom, and even a sense of… relief. Relief knowing that there is someone better than you, so you take what you learn and you hone it, so one day you can maybe beat them."

"He's not wrong." Arthur said. "Build yourself back up as a better person. Make real friends instead of just teammates and...don't throw your life away." he said.

"Sir…" Lan said as tears filled his eyes. "I promise...I'll become even better than you are! And one day...along with this Siege guy...I'll take you down too!"

"Hahaha. I dare you to try!" Arthur said.

"Sure, come and try your hand at me again. But there's more than one way I can use my ferocity in a duel." Siege said. "You saw only one of many exploits my deck is capable of."

"You know...there's always room for one more on our ship." Jexi said.

"You serious? You know I just tried to kill you all right?" Lan asked.

"Please...a lot of people here have tried to kill us at one point or another." Jexi laughed.

"And everyone deserves a second chance." Ace said.

"Fine...then I'll throw away my career as a thief and play hero instead." Lan smiled.

"That's the spirit." Siege said, smirking to Lan. "And hey, if you ever feel like you want to challenge me to a friendly duel, I'm always open and available for one." Siege added.

"Keep in mind, I have multiple decks prepped and ready for use." Lan said.

"Cool. Looks like you and I play the same way: Multiple decks, for multiple playstyles." Siege said.

"Speaking of which Siege… how the heck did you get your hands on the Three Sacred Beasts?" Hope said.

"Now, now. I can't disclose to you all of my secrets." Siege said to Hope with a smirk.

"Uh...not that this isn't informative...but we should be going out. The Closing Ceremonies are starting in 5 minutes." Sci-Twi said.

"She's right, Hope. It's time for the Closing Ceremonies...and the Final Medal Tally." David said.

"Oh, yeah. My bad. I was just a little curious." Hope said. "Let's go."

5 minutes later, everyone was gathered inside Tokyo Stadium as Magenta arrived at the podium.

"Now...it's time for the announcements for the final day. Let's start with the medal total for each team. For the Royal Knights...they have a total of...13 medals!" Magenta said. "Mythos Hearts...6 medals! Dimensional Heroes...7 medals! Team Chronicle...7 medals! Soldiers of Fortune...12 medals! Fairy Tail...4 medals! Spectra Force...3 medals! Brave Adventurers...15 medals! Ginova...8 medals! Straw Hats...7 medals! Ginhana Sky...5 medals! Reformed Society...9 medals! Valkyrie...7 medals! Indivisible...6 medals! Unmei Force...9 medals! And Spirit force...8 medals! Meaning...our top three are...Brave Adventurers, Royal Knight and Soldiers of Fortune!" she called out as the audience applauded the top three scoring teams.

"Dead last?" Dark Pit said.

"Don't worry about it...we'll just have to improve our roster for the Winter Games." Spectra said.

"Holy… Third overall!?" Siege said in genuine shock. "We did that well!?"

"I suppose so, wow, we sure showed them how good we are didn't we?" Allison said.

"Yeah but… I never expected this, not one bit." Siege said. "Well, they know now that we're at least dependable, and probably know they can count on us as much as we can count on them."

"Second Place...hmm. Well done David...seems you outshined us after all." Leopardmon said to himself.

"And with that...the Tokyo Olympics have officially come to a close! So...I hope you all tune in next time for the next amazing event!" Magenta said. "So...check us out!" she said as the fireworks went off.

"So this is it… it's all said and done now…" Siege said. "Honestly, I'm a bit sad. I enjoyed meeting and hanging out with every one of you guys…"

"Well...there is an unexplored area in Galar that's getting close to being uncovered...and a tournament soon after that." Jexi said. "We should meet up back there. All seven of us."

"I think you mean eight." Cheetah said with a wink.

"Yeah, a shame you can't go with us for a while." David said.

"Yes, but… we'll help out where we can." Riesz said.

"Galar, eh? Been to my own Galar but not to yours. I'm eager to see what's in store. Maybe Bea will come along…" Siege pondered aloud. "Then again, your Galar has a Bea, doesn't it?"

"Yeah, not a good idea. Two Beas in one Galar? That's gonna be confusing as hell." Akane said.

"That's what I thought. Never mind then." Siege said. "Still, I could bring my gijinkas along."

"So it's a trip back to Galar, eh?" Max remarked, with a smirk. "Well, I wouldn't mind duking it out with your Pokemon again."

"Always a pleasure to team up with you again." Titanica said. "Cinderace thinks so too."

"What about you, Tsumugi? Want to team up again for old times sake?" Simon asked.

"Sounds interesting. Could be fun." Tsumugi said.

"We all have to continue on our paths and grow. Besides...I may not be hunting you for now...but there is someone else on my radar." Cheetah said.

"I see. Her, right? Figured as much." David said.

"You pledged to finish her too. So...wonder which of us will get to her first? You or me?" Cheetah said.

"Guess it'll come down to who runs into her first. But even if I run into her first, she's not going down easily. You know that better than anyone." David said.

"Sorry, couldn't help but overhear you two… you two keep referring to her. Her as in… oh I don't know, a certain version of Diana?" Siege would ask. "Also known as Wonder Woman?"

"More specifically, MY Diana." Cheetah said.

"You wouldn't happen to know someone by the name of Slade Wilson, would you, Barbara?" Siege would ask. "He keeps talking about knowing a Cheetah who didn't stay evil."

"Deathstroke? Yes, I have. Good to see that he's still going around." Cheetah said.

"Well… let's just say he had a recent run in with Diana. He doesn't know where she is now, but he has a good idea of where she may be." Siege said. "If you want, I could have you two meet up with him and a few other operatives he has with him to see if you can't take her down."

"I appreciate the offer, but this is something I need to accomplish on my own." Cheetah said.

"Fair, fair, I respect that. Slade was going to start retreating anyways to not risk anymore collateral damage." Siege said. "Just thought I'd offer it before he backs off."

"Thanks." Cheetah said.

"Okay, this is the part where we make a promise to see each other again soon, right?" Ajna asked.

"Definitely." Jexi said as the eight leaders put their hands in the middle.

"October 22nd...the Crown Tundra." they said.

"So what are you guys gonna do now?" Ace asked, looking to David, Hope, Jexi, and Mark.

"Not sure. But you know us...we'll probably end up falling into something interesting without even meaning to." Jexi said.

"Got room for one more?" Ace asked.

"Not sure...but...there's always room for when we need help from a trusted friend." Jexi said.

"However Ace, there may be something you could help me with, as well as David." Hope said. "Remember those Eight Robot Masters we had a run in with in EDEN?"

"You've finally managed to pull it off, huh?" David asked.

"What do you need help with for them exactly?" Ace asked.

"Restoring them." Hope said. "With Entrapta's help, I was able to get their bodies put back together in perfect order. All they need is the weapon and battle data X and Axl have, and reprogramming their personalities into their new bodies."

"Sure, we'd be happy to help." X said.

"Oh, um...Can I ask you all of something?" Miriam asked.

"What do you need, Miriam?" Hope asked.

"It's just this feeling I have, but if any of you run into a man named Zangetsu…." Miriam said as she held out the Zangetsuto. "Could you please return this to him? He lent this to me as a means to save my friend who was under the spell of a demon."

"We'll keep an eye out." Sachiko said.

"Thank you." Miriam said.

"Guess we should be heading back." Theo said. "A lot of job offers have probably built up by now and they won't do themselves."

"Good luck out there, Theo." David said.

"Yeah...oh that reminds. Hey, gi…" Theo said before seeing Glacius and Esmeralda gone. "And they left before I could get their answer on joining the guild or not."

"Don't worry about it, Theo. I have a feeling those two work better unaffiliated." David said.

"We'll see them again. There's no doubt about it." Hope said.

"But as allies, or enemies? Who's to say?" David asked.

"Well, Richard and I should get back as well." Siege said. "No telling what Demigra might have done while we were off on this break."

"I agree, best to all of you." Richard answered back.

"Likewise. We'll be seeing you both at the Crown Tundra." Ichiro said.

"Heh, you can count on it." Siege said with a smile, before he and Richard, and their allies that came with them, turned to head back to their super fortresses.

As the groups each went their separate ways from the Hero Alliance, not one of them will forget the amazing memories that were felt in the moments of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Meanwhile in a hidden location, the gunslinging duo looked at a building as it burned down.

"Well...we should be headed back now." Brave said.

"So...he's really decided then? What's the message?" Aurora asked.

"Like we said before...we're gonna take back this corrupt multiverse." Brave said.

The end.
