Chapter 13

Alfred also left after spending another three days with the family. William was glad he got to spend time with his grandpa, teaching him about his travels and his studies of different cultures around the world as an Anthropologist. Like Beverly, he was amazed at how quickly his grandson understands and learns any
topic that was taught to him. William sometimes catches him off-guard with his clever and mostly insightful questions.

A few days after Alfred left, Wyatt and Susan arrived, excited to see their granddaughter up close for the first time. William ran up to them after Leonard welcomed them in the house, pulling them to the backyard where Penny and Sarah are.

"Grandma come quick, Mommy and Sarah are in the backyard!" he said pulling is grandmother's hand to the backyard.

"Okay honey, no need to rush." she said as she saw Penny carrying the baby in her arms. Susan slowly walked towards her daughter and can't help but cry happy tears upon seeing her granddaughter. "Oh my god Penny! I can't believe this! She looks just like you when you were born." Said Susan as she sat beside Penny while Wyatt went near them, looking over the baby.

"Didn't I say you two would crank out beautiful babies? I mean, look at her, she's just perfect." said Wyatt.

"Thank you daddy. Mom do you wanna hold her?" Penny said while slowly handing the baby over to her mother. Susan wiped her tears as she looked at Sarah, quietly sleeping.

"Hi Sarah. I'm your grandma Susan." She said as the baby stirred and began to cry. Susan gently rocked the baby back to sleep, enamored by her granddaughter. "She really took after you Penny. She likes her sleep." Susan said.

"Told you." said Leonard as Penny gave him the look.

"Alright I get it. My daughter likes to sleep just like her mommy." Penny said sarcastically.

Leonard gave her shoulder a light squeeze. "Don't fret honey, we're just teasing you." he said.

"I don't know Leonard. Maybe you'd prefer for our baby to be awake all the time, crying and eating huh?" said Penny.

"We're joking honey." said Leonard as Wyatt and Susan joined in, laughing a little.

"Grandma was my mommy this pretty when she was a baby?" asked William.

"She was sweetie." Susan said as they looked at the baby, peacefully sleeping.

"When she grows up, I'm gonna teach her how to read and write." said William.

Penny hugged her son, touched by his kindness and love for his baby sister. "I'm sure you will sweetie. I know your sister will grow up just like you, sweet and smart." Penny said kissing William's cheeks.

"I hope so too. I mean, imagine Sarah having your attitude and sass combined with Leonard's intelligence. I don't think anyone would be able to handle it." said Wyatt.

Leonard and Penny then looked at each other, suddenly afraid about what Wyatt said. "Uh I don't think my daughter would be like that dad." said Penny while looking at Leonard.

"I think Wyatt is right honey. What if Sarah grows up to be an intelligent and sassy kid?" said Leonard. "I mean, look at Sheldon. He's a handful for everyone even today." he added.

Penny glared at him. "Would you just relax! Sarah's not gonna turn out like Sheldon. She's gonna grow up just like me, pretty and sweet!" she said, taking the baby from Susan, then kissing the baby.

"I hope you're ready Leonard. You already have your hands full with Penny, are you sure you can handle two of them?" Wyatt said making Leonard and Susan laugh.

"Dad please stop that!" she said to Wyatt.

"Mom, what does grandpa mean?" William asked.

"Nothing sweetheart." Penny said, reassuring her son.

William turned to Wyatt. "Grandpa, was my mommy a naughty girl when she was little?" he asked surprising the adults.

Wyatt laughed and lifted William to sit on his lap. "Son, your mommy was a handful when she was your age. Always running around, always causing all sorts of trouble, but even if she runs around like a wild horse, your mom was the sweetest kid ever." said Wyatt.

"What did she do grandpa? Burn the house or something?" asked William making the adults laugh out loud while Penny quietly broods.

"No son but there was this one time when she came home all covered in mud. Apparently she was trying to catch the pig in the pigsty. Oh, her mom got so mad that she dunked her in big tub of water and scrubbed her like crazy!" said Wyatt with Leonard and Susan laughing at Penny's expense.

"How come you never told me that story honey?" asked Leonard.

"Grandpa, do you think Sarah will turn out just like that?" William asked.

Wyatt then became serious. "No son, I know your mom and dad will raise her to be just like you. Smart and sweet. And I'm sure you'll be there to teach her, right?" said Wyatt.

"Don't worry grandpa, I'm gonna take good care of her." said William making Penny emotional, proud of her son. "I'm gonna teach her whats right and wrong." the child added.

"I'm so proud of you sweetheart. You just made me very happy!" said Penny.

For the next month, the Hofstadter home was filled with happiness and laughter with the arrival of Sarah. The neighbors came one by one to check up on Penny and welcome Sarah into their neighborhood. Everyone was surprised and smitten at how pretty Penny's daughter was, amazed at her undeniable resemblance to her mother. Leonard and Penny felt very proud at the admiration that their daughter is receiving not just from their neighbors but also from Leonard's colleagues at CalTech and Penny's friends and co-stars from her TV show who came by to visit them.

"Oh my god Penny, your daughter is such an angel!" said Dana, one of her co-stars while cradling Sarah in her arms. "Look at her." she added.

"I know." Penny said. "By the way, when are you and Freddy planning to have your own baby?" she asked.

"We're thinking maybe next year. He's finishing up some stuff at work, after that, we're planning to go on vacation trip, maybe Europe or Asia." Said Dana.

"That is nice." Penny said. "Didn't I tell you that we were in the Bahamas when we found out I was pregnant with William?" Penny added.

"Really? I didn't know that." said Dana. "You must be thrilled finding out you were pregnant while you were in your honeymoon huh?" she said.

"Yeah. It was a surprise alright." Penny said. They continued catching up until Sarah woke up crying. Penny took her from Dana to change her diaper and feed her before putting her back in her crib to go back to sleep.

For the next couple of months, Wyatt and Susan stayed with the young family to help out in taking care of Sarah and William. Wyatt and Susan would take turns in cradling their granddaughter out in the backyard, playing with her and most often, feeding her with milk that Penny stored in the fridge. William made sure he was in the middle of it all, helping his grandparents in taking care of his sister and most times, reading his books while his sister listens, hoping that his sister would be as smart as he is.
