Note: Has anyone done a crossover between Jungle Book and Star Fox? I just want to know, because this story is an odd crossover in of itself, I admit that. Okay, I'll just let chapter fourteen arrive, because I feel like I ramble when I do these author's notes.
Chapter 14: Baloo Returns
A full week had passed, and Lexi had published three articles to the Daily Press. The rabbit was starting to become a noteworthy environmental journalist in the paper. However, despite that, she had one thing on her mind: Baloo was coming back from his retreat. The young woman knew that it was the day, as Baloo promised that he would be back in three weeks. However, the bear did not say how he would come back into town with his friends. Lexi was dumbfounded, not knowing what to do.
A knock came on the door, which caused Lexi to get up from her chair.
"I'm coming!" The rabbit said as she walked to the door. Upon opening it, she was greeted by a familiar face.
"Well, I must be at the wrong house, because my Lexi usually ain't this beautiful!" Baloo said.
Without warning, Lexi found herself hugging Baloo and kissing him on the cheek. The bear then lifted the rabbit in his arms.
"I'm so happy to see you!" Lexi said in excitement.
"Me too, sweetie!" Baloo laughed, he liked it when Lexi was happy.
"So, how did it go?" The rabbit asked.
"It was great!" The bear answered, "While we didn't do much, we still had a great time!"
"Wish I could have asked to come with you guys." Lexi looked down.
"I'm sure that you can come with us next time." Baloo carefully lowered his girlfriend to the ground, standing her on her feet.
"Do you want to do something for the evening?" The smaller female asked.
"We can hang here for now, if you want." The larger male sat down on the doorstep.
"That's fine with me." The rabbit sat next to the bear.
The couple then looked at the sky, watching the clouds and occasionally looking down when the sun was shining. Baloo put his arm around Lexi, pulling her closer to him.
"So, what did you do while I was gone?" Baloo asked.
"I got a job as an environmental journalist at the Daily Press." Lexi answered.
"How's that going?" The bear asked.
"So far, I've published three articles to the paper." The rabbit said, "As far as I know, I'm really good at my job."
"You know, I've been looking for a job myself." The larger male said.
"What kind of job?" The smaller female asked.
"I haven't decided yet, but I'll do an application after you have the baby." He said.
"Good idea." She said.
"Did anyone notice you were pregnant?" Baloo asked.
"Akela did." Lexi looked down.
"I take it that you met the wolf?" The bear looked at his girlfriend.
"Yes, he helped me out." The rabbit said, "But he told me that he wasn't bothering with me out of kindness, but rather because I was with you. We talked the next day, where he said that he wouldn't tell anyone else that I was pregnant."
"That's really nice of him," the larger male said, "but I'm not sure if the others would do the same if you told them."
"What do you mean?" The smaller female asked.
"For all I know, Bagheera, Rama, and Raksha would keep your pregnancy a secret like Akela." He said, "Louie likes to gossip while Kaa's silver tongue can get out of control from time to time. As for me, I don't think that I would make a good father."
"What makes you say that?" Lexi was shocked when she heard that.
"Everyone says that I'm too fun-loving for my own good." Baloo looked down, "Even if you had the baby, you would be better at raising it than I could ever hope to be. Face it Lexi, I would be more flawed than a bad piece of meat."
"Baloo," the rabbit had an assuring tone in her voice, "even if you have a free spirit, that doesn't mean that you would be a bad father. Hell, you might make an excellent Papa Bear."
"Thanks, honey." The bear smiled.
"You're welcome." Lexi said before sharing a kiss with him. When they broke apart, Lexi got up from the ground.
"I'm going to head to the bar." The rabbit said.
"Okay, be careful!" The bear said as his girlfriend walked off. The bar was across the street, so he wasn't far from it. However, a silverback gorilla was waiting near the bar, looking at Lexi as she walked in.
Oh boy, Baloo's thoughts were full of worry, I should probably go in that bar as well! If what Lexi said about the gang was true, then I've got to beat them before they can get to her!
Note: It was only a matter of time before Baloo came back into the story. As for the silverback gorilla who was watching as Lexi entered the bar, he will appear in the next chapter. What did you guys think about this chapter? Let me know when you leave a review or give a constructive criticism. Until next time guys, peace!
