Ch 15
The weekend came up faster than any other. Alice gave Beth and Bella an alibi for Charlie as staying the whole weekend with her as the others went camping. Beth giggled as Alice made her statement, "Me, he likes," as Bella looked at her confused while Charlie went inside.
"We'll be hunting, preparing for the big battle, while you girls stay at the house. Edward will stay with you Bella and Jasper is on edge of leaving you behind so you might want to talk to him and get him settled before we leave, so go in and pack, I'll meet you at the house," Alice said as she went to her car. Beth waved bye as she went in and headed to her room. She grabbed her back pack and filled it with warm clothing and a couple of books as she looked ahead for the battle.
She and Bella would be in the mountains up above the field where the battle was going to happen. She grabbed her thickest snow coat and placed it in the bottom of her bag then clothes for the next few days, even though she was sure Alice would have something there for both of the girls to wear. She met Bella a few minutes later, telling Charlie goodbye, hugging him and even kissing his cheek.
"I love you daddy. We'll see you on Sunday," Beth said in a whisper while hugging him close, praying her words come true. Charlie hugged her back. The girls then left to the Cullen's house.
The moment Bella and Beth got there, Edward and Jasper met them outside and helped them in. Edward took Bella up to his room as Jasper stood with Beth in the living room.
"Jasper, you need to hunt. I can see it in your eyes. I'll be safe here until you get back to take me to the field. Seth will be there with Jake to watch over us til the battle," Beth told him quietly, looking up at him. Jasper sighed and kissed her forehead.
"I don't like leaving you alone for so long where something could happen," He said with a sigh.
"Like I said, Edward will be here and then Seth and Jake tomorrow. Just promise me that you'll see me before the battle..."
"When the wolves come to get you and Bella, I'll see you then. I want you do to something for me..."
"Anything..."
"Keep this with you, so you can give it back to me," Jasper said as he gave her his war medal. Beth took it and put it in her breast pocket of her button down shirt underneath her sweater. She looked back to Jasper and kissed him. "So it's near my heart, where you belong."
Jasper kissed her until a cough interrupted them. They broke apart to see Nathaniel looking anywhere but them. "Alice said it's time to go hunt..." Jasper sighed and kissed Beth one last time.
"I'll see you tomorrow.. I love you, Jasper."
"I love you too Beth."
Jasper and Nathaniel disappeared as Beth went to Jasper's room and put her bag down on the floor before kicking off her tennis shoes and taking off her sweater and pants. What she didn't mention was that the button down shirt she had belonged to Jasper. She unrolled the bottom of the shirt and let it hit her thighs as she crawled onto the bed and curled up with the pillow Jasper lays with them most so she could smell him. She drifted off to sleep, dreaming of the battle being over and them getting married in a peaceful setting.
Beth shot up as her alarm went off on her phone. She reached for her pants and turned it off before stretching and getting out of bed. She went into the bathroom and did her human needs before going back and getting dressed in a pair of black jeans, white tank with a dark blue long sleeve shirt and then added a black sweater jacket on top. She slid her tennis shoes back on. She then grabbed the war medal and placed it in her pocket and grabbed her back pack before heading downstairs where Edward and Bella were waiting for her.
"So... Let's get to hiking..." Beth said with a weak smile. Edward and Bella took the lead to his car and got in. Beth hopped in and held onto the medal til they reached the wooded area where they had to walk to the field and on the way and around the field, Bella and Beth both took turns taking a needle and produce blood to wipe on trees and bushes, making a trail for the newborns to follow.
As they reached the field, they could see Jake and Seth both waiting for them to show up, Jake in human form and Seth in wolf form.
"Hi guys..." Beth said with a small wave. Seth sat down and let Beth rub his head. Jasper came running through the trees and rushed at Beth, picking her up and holding her close. Beth finally let out a tear as she looked up and kissed him. Jasper kissed her back with a slight purr of content.
"You have to be careful and come back to me..." Beth whispered as she pulled back. Jasper wiped away the tear that rolled down Beth's face.
"Of course, Darlin'. There's nothing that could stop me from ever coming back to you," He whispered to her. Beth held onto him as Bella said her see you later's to Edward as he grabbed both Bella's and Beth's bags and ran for the mountain location. Beth sighed as she pulled away from Jasper with one last kiss.
"Please come back to me..." Beth whispered as she climbed onto Seth's back. Once he stood, he faced Jasper.
"Keep her safe for me..." Jasper begged of him. Seth nodded his head.
"I love you, Darlin'."
"I love you, Cowboy."
Seth trotted off behind Jake as Jake carried Bella in person. Seth stayed a bit a ways so Bella and Jake could have time to themselves. Beth was petting Seth's head as she rode on his back, "Hey Seth?"
A grumble and his ears flicked back.
"I just... I just wanted to thank you for doing this... For protecting me... And for protecting the town. There's a bigger picture than me and Bella being at stake and that's Forks and La Push.. I wish this wasn't happening..." Beth said and muttered that last part, though she was sure Seth would've heard her. Seth snorted in agreement she guessed. Another hour of hiking, the wolves and girls met Edward at their destination.
Edward already had a two tents set up while sleeping bags and all. Beth hopped off Seth, giving him a pat and thanked him as she went into her tent, seeing her bag next to the one she guessed was hers. She left the tent door open as she grabbed her bag and pulled it in and pulled out a book and began to read, laying on her stomach with the book in front of her as Bella and Edward went into their tent.
Jake and Seth did small patrols here and there, taking small naps and finding small animals to eat on. Beth ran her fingers through both of the furs at one point as she sat outside in the sun while it lasted. Once it got dark, the winds picked up with the winter storm that was coming through the mountain tops. Beth shivered as the storm came in even fiercer than ever. She heard the zipper being undone and ducked her head into the sleeping bag.
"Beth? It's Seth." A kind but happy voice sounded out. Beth peeked out of the bag. Beth took Seth in. A young teen, fourteen, maybe fifteen. Tan with short black hair like most in his group. He was only wearing a pair of shorts.
"How you are you not cold?" Beth stuttered out. Seth chuckled as he zipped the tent door back closed.
"108 year round due to being a wolf. I figured with Jake being on look out, I could come warm you up," Seth said as he sat next to her. It took a while but she could finally feel the heat seeping through the bag and clothes to her skin. Surely enough, once she was warm, she fell asleep, quietly thanking Seth as she did.
Once morning came, Seth slipped out of the tent right before Beth woke up. Beth woke up right as Jake stormed past her tent as she climbed out. She looked to Edward confused. "Is everything okay?.."
"He just found out... That Bella agreed to marry me," Edward said with a wince.
"Well... Congrats... I'm sorry things happened the way they did, but at least he knows now..."
Bella walked back into the clearing.
"I'll... I'll just go back to my tent..." Beth said at the uncomfortable tension, climbing back into the tent, but kept the tent flap half way open. Seth whimpered as Edward told him to go and hide. Beth hid in her tent as Victoria came out with Riley.
Beth heard as Edward tried to get Riley to see the truth about Victoria and her using him.
"You're dead."
That's all it took for Beth to crawl back into sleeping bag and curl up and clasp her hands over her ears as the fighting began. She screamed as a vampire hand landed in her tent and on top of her twitching. She rolled over and let the hand fall to the ground and ran out of the tent, or what was left after Victoria ripped open the top as she was flung by. Bella grabbed Beth and pulled her away to safety, keeping her behind her.
Seth had finished tearing Riley apart when Victoria had a grasp on Edward's neck. Bella looked around for something sharp and once she did, she cut a good cut on her arm, letting blood flow down her arm. Victoria looked to Bella and watched the blood run down her arm before letting Edward go to run after her. That's all it took. Edward then got the upper hand in the fight and managed to tear Victoria's head off.
Seth and Edward grabbed all parts that were twitching and threw them into a fire. Edward looked to Seth.
"Take Beth back to the boundary line, we'll be there soon to get her, Alice needs us to go now," Edward said. Beth went and grabbed what she could of her stuff, putting it in her bag and putting it on. She climbed onto Seth's back and watched as Edward and Bella leave towards the field.
Beth slid of Seth's back once they got to the boundary line. Seth took this chance to go behind a tree and shift back into a human and came out with shorts and a shirt on. Beth sat at a base of a tree and Seth did another.
"Sorry about the hand..." Seth said with a cheeky grin.
"It's fine... I wasn't expecting it... I didn't know they could still... Move... after being deattached..." Beth shivered as she remembered the moment when it landed on her. Seth chuckled.
"At least I got to see some action."
Beth shrugged. She would've preferred not being in any action. It took almost another 15 minutes before Jasper showed up to get Beth. Beth ran at Jasper and let herself be picked up and wrapped her legs and arms around Jasper as he picked her up and slightly crushed her to him.
"Happy endings..." Seth said with a smile before running off to leave the love birds to themselves.
