Chapter 37: Period of Adjustment

After settling in the dorm, Danny started an online chat with Tucker and Sam. "So, how're things there?" Danny asked.

"I'm sharing a room with a guy named Sheldon Lee." Tucker answered. "I believe you already know him."

"Sorry but I don't remember that name." Danny replied.

"He says you chanced upon each other when you went to Tremorton to date a girl named Jenny Wakeman and that she's X-J9, the teenage robot who protects that town." Tucker explained. "Why didn't you tell me you met X-J9?"

"I found it too weird even to our standards." Danny replied. "For the record, I now remember a guy named Sheldon who seemed upset at me."

"A robot?" Sam asked with a frown. "Really?"

"And that's not all!" Tucker happily announced. "Remember Velma Dinkley?"

"Yes." Both Danny and Sam answered.

"She's also attending the M.I.T.!" Tucker exclaimed. "She said something about a long-time friction within the gang finally causing its dissolution and now she's no longer roaming the country. We're giving it another chance for a relationship. What about you, Sam?"

"I still don't know anyone that well here but, who knows?" Sam replied.

"Is it true that Skulker attacked you during your trip and W.O.O.H.P. agents had to save you?" Tucker asked while smiling.

"Yes, Tucker." Danny sighed.

"Among them was…" Sam tried to ask but Danny interrupted him.

"I'm neither confirming nor denying the identities of the involved spies." The halfa said.

"Be careful, Danny." Sam teased her friend. "Alex might think you're a dork for needing rescue from normal humans in spite of your powers."

"Hey!" Tucker protested. "Batman doesn't need superpowers to fight alongside heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman; and Iron Man doesn't need them to fight alongside Captain America, the Incredible Hulk and the Mighty Thor."

The next day, Danny and Alex were discussing their courses. "Really?" Danny asked with skepticism. "Does Mali-U have a course called "Espionage 101"?"

"I know, I was just as surprised as you are but my friends and I are taking it for an easy "A"!" Alex said in excitement.

"Aren't you worried?" Danny asked out of concern for his girlfriend and her friends. "What if this Professor Fremont is trying to root out spies?"

"Danny, Professor Fremont is a world renowned secret agent." Alex said in defense of her decision.

"Aren't secret agents supposed to avoid fame?" Danny asked in confusion.

"You know what I mean, Danny." Alex replied and then had a thought. "You're not jealous, are you?"

"No comments, Alex." Danny said. "What about you and your friends getting jobs at the local coffee shop?"

"It's expensive to live at that villa we moved in, Danny." Alex explained.

"I get it! It's a cover up because you can't admit you've got jobs as spies!" He guessed.

"No comments, Danny." Alex replied.

Meanwhile, back in Amity Park, Jack and Maddie Fenton had just captured another ghost. "I'm finally realizing how easier Danny made it for us." Maddie commented.

"Maybe we should invite Antonio to join us." Jack suggested and Maddie glared at him. "What? It's not like he's a Power Ranger or like they're still needed in Panorama City."

"True but don't try to creep him out when asking him." Maddie asked her husband.

Later on, back at Mali-U, Danny was so concerned about the girls he called Jerry to ask about Professor Fremont. "Danny, I have checked Professor Fremont's records and found out you have reason to be concerned." Jerry said. "It turns out he wanted to be a spy but was rejected by every Government agency in America. W.O.O.H.P., Global Justice, National Super Agency, you name it."

"The Guys in White?" Danny guessed.

"Yes." Jerry frowned. "He was desperate enough to join spies who wear white in spite of not operating in any of the poles."

"Uh, not that I have any problem with mocking the Guys in White but, the girls' catsuits don't exactly have discreet colors either." Danny pointed out.

"They're good enough to make up for that." Jerry pointed out.

"Touché." Danny replied.

"Anyway, thank you for warning me, Danny." Jerry stated. "I'll warn the girls."

"You're welcome, Jerry." Danny replied.

After the call ended, Danny reviewed his material and later decided to watch some TV to keep his mind off studies and spies. "We interrupt our show to report that supervillains Captain Cold and Cheetah are robbing the Second National Bank." A reporter announced.

"College student or not, I'm still a superhero." Danny said. "I'm going ghost!" He flew towards the bank and saw several frozen people the villains were taking valuables from. "This is the best withdrawal we ever made, Captain Cold." Cheetah commented.

Danny then shot a beam at Captain Cold's freezing ray. "You'd better deposit everything back." He told the villains.

Cheetah hissed. "Your jokes are even lamer than Spider-Man's."

But instead of paying attention to Cheetah's comment, Danny flew towards Captain Cold's freeze ray and snatched it before Captain Cold could. "Now, where's the reverse button?" He asked.

"Ha! There's no reverse button." Captain Cold smirked. "You'd better have a superpower to defreeze these people."

"Maybe he doesn't but I have." A new voice said.

"Flash?" Danny and the villains asked.

"Phantom, capture the villains while I defreeze the civilians!" The Flash ordered. While Danny obeyed the more experienced superhero, the Flash spun around, using friction to thaw the ice covering the people.

Once everyone was rescued, the cops took the villains away and the media approached the heroes. "Danny Phantom, did you join the Justice League?" A reporter asked.

"No, the Flash and I just happened to stop a same crime." Danny explained. "Albeit I don't mind the occasional team-up."

"Yeah, Supergirl and Batgirl gave good references about you." The Flash added. "If you, don't mind, duty calls me." The fastest man alive said and left.

"I have duties to attend too." Danny explained.

"Homework?" A reporter jokingly asked.

"No comments." Danny answered and left.

Later, at the Justice League's watchtower, the Flash reported the latest development to Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the Martian Manhunter. "Danny Phantom's still finding time to be a hero." The Man of Steel said. "That's good."

"Too bad he's too close to those spies or I'd approve the proposal to invite him to join the League." Batman commented.

"Doesn't he just help W.O.O.H.P. on occasion?" Wonder Woman asked.

"Actually, he's dating one of their agents." Batman explained. "He met her through the dating service."

Superman grew worried upon hearing that. "And he knows Supergirl's identity! Batman, are you sure we can trust him?"

"I've been monitoring his activities ever since he learned Batgirl's identity." Batman stated. "If he were to expose either identity or use those secrets for blackmail, he'd have already tried."

"Uh, you do remember that, until recently, he had a secret identity Supergirl and Batgirl knew of, right?" The Flash asked.

"Even counting from the time his identity became public, I'm sure he would've done something." Batman replied.

"Okay, if Batman isn't worried, we shouldn't either." Wonder Woman commented.

Back in Amity Park, people were watching the news. Including students attending Amity Park Community College. "I knew my ghost boy was still a hero." Paulina commented.

"Your ghost boy, Paulina?" Dale skeptically asked with a malicious smile. "Everybody in Amity Park knows Fenton's dating that Beverly Hills chick."

"He'll come to his senses, I'm telling you!" Paulina insisted.

"I see you having to take remedial classes wasn't the only reason you're not attending a better university." Dale commented.

"And how come you are not attending a better university?" Paulina asked.

"Empire State University found it suspicious that my test grades were so low in comparison to how good the projects done by the nerds were." Dale answered. "Kwan was lucky his grades were good enough for Metropolis University."

"Really?" Paulina was skeptic. "Are we talking about the same Kwan who exclaimed "Party at Dash's!" when Dash's parents were abducted?"

"Yeah, it surprised me as well." Dale commented.

Meanwhile, at her dorm, Jazz Fenton was making a video call to her brother. "Are you okay, little brother?" She asked.

"Yes, Jazz." Danny answered. "It takes more than parodies of Catwoman and Mr. Freeze to take me down."

"Didn't you need the Flash's help?" Jazz asked.

"Mostly to defreeze the bystanders." Danny explained. "Don't take it the wrong way, I know he's a great superhero and a Leaguer…"

"Okay, little brother." Jazz replied while smirking at his discomfort.

"Excuse me, Jazz, but I've got homework to do. Bye." He said and ended the call.

After a long day of ghost hunting, Jack and Maddie Fenton returned home. Jack was angry. "If I have to hear "Beware" one more time, I will…" His rantings were interrupted by a ghost shouting "Beware". "That's it!" Jack said and sucked the ghost into a Fenton Thermos.

That night, Danny and Alex were having dinner together. "You were right, Danny." She commented. "It turned out Fremont was a failed spy. What about you, Danny? How was your day?"

"Attended classes, did homework, stopped bank robbers." Danny answered. "But you taking an espionage class made me wonder: do you really want to become a veterinarian or is it just a cover?"

"I do want to become a veterinarian, Danny." Alex answered. "I may still do some occasional spying after I become a full-time veterinarian but that's it. And full-time spies usually take cover jobs that aren't likely to attract neighbors asking for favors, not that I'm authorized to get into details."

"Okay, Alex." Danny replied.

End chapter.

Answer to Leonardo (Guest): Valeu. Talvez eu faça um crossover com a Kim Possible, mas também estou pensando em opções como a Princesa Natasha ou uma das líderes de torcida de Groove Squad.
