A/N: Okay let's make one thing clear. If Arizona and Finn got tested, it would show that Finn is NOT Arizona's child. There were no eggs involved and will never be, because that's very difficult to write or rather integrate in a story that's almost thirty chapters long when I hadn't planned on it. You may wonder, why do Finn and Arizona like each other so much, well sometimes you don't need biology to find someone comforting and soothing. Plus Callie would never steal Arizona's eggs, be mad at her and not tell her about it. It… it just doesn't make sense to me.

It was a little confusing writing this chapter, so just a heads up. Momma is Callie and Mommy is Arizona, I'm sure most of you would know this, but still I thought I should put it out there.

Chapter 29: Sofia

Present day

There were so many things that Sofia was grateful for. She had an amazing mom, who was the best doctor in the entire world, she had friends who never left her side. Her grandparents loved her and adored her and showered her with presents whenever they visited her. She loved her life.

And then there were things she wished she had. According to her mom, her father had passed away in a plane crash, the same crash that caused her to lose her own leg. She barely remembered her dad but there were pictures and videos of him that she liked to watch to keep him alive in her heart.

Then there was her other mother, who was also a doctor but she lived far far away in New York. She still remembered her, she remembered how she looked, how she spoke, but she didn't exactly remember why she stopped seeing her.

All she knew was her periodic visits to New York had completely stopped. Whenever she asked her Mommy why Mamma wasn't coming to Seattle, she would either change the topic or get mad. So, Sofia had to tread lightly. Her Momma did call her on occasion and left her letters which she took to Zola's place, where Auntie Mer read them for her before she could read them herself. Sure her Momma video called from time to time, but that was not enough.

And now… Finally when she thought that they would get to be a family again… she brought him… another child into her house.

Sofia couldn't help but keep the tears from falling onto her pillow. She missed her Momma, but clearly her Momma didn't feel the same. She didn't want to share her Momma with anyone, let alone a boy.

Suddenly, Sofia heard a soft knock on her door. The knock was so soft that she wasn't even sure if she heard it, but then the door opened ever so slightly and revealed her Momma who was poking her head through it.

A couple of days ago, the sight of her mother made her so happy that she cried. She hadn't seen her Momma in years and video calls didn't count. Now the sight of her just made her cry harder. But not for the same reason.

"Sofia? Can I come in?" she asked.

Sofia tried to tell her no but her voice got stuck in her throat, her tears demanded to be felt. She was hurt and there was nothing anyone could do to help her. So Sofia just hugged her pillow tighter.

She saw the door opening a little wider as her mother entered her room and closed the door behind her. She took a few steps towards her before Sofia felt her bed dipping.

"Oh honey" her mother said as she ran a hand through her head.

Sofia wanted to turn away and tell her to stop, but at the same time she wanted to be held by her mother, she wanted her mother to tell her that it was a joke that it wasn't real, that she was teasing her, that he was just her patient that she brought home. But she knew that wasn't the truth.

So instead Sofia leaned into her mother.

She felt her mother opening her arms as she sank against her. "Momma?" Sofia tried to speak through her tears.

"Yes baby"

"Why?" Sofia asked. She wished she could gather enough words, but that word seemed fitting. She wanted to know why. Why had everything happened the way it did? Why did she leave her? Why did she refuse to see her? Why did she suddenly have a brother…

Why?

That was the right word.

"I never meant to hurt you baby… I… I got really sad and upset after-after I moved to New York, that's when I decided to get a baby. But Sofia, I never meant to leave you here, I never meant to cause all this pain you have to believe that"

"Was a bad daughter?"

"No, of course you weren't honey. I-I, your Mommy and I had a huge fight and we… We were in a really bad place where it was difficult to see each other or to even talk to each other. And we let you get in the middle"

"Mommy didn't put me in the middle you did!" Sofia cried.

Even though her Mommy didn't tell her about what had happened between the two of them, she knew both of her parents well. Momma was the one who used to get pissed off easily, whereas Mommy was the calmer out of the two of them. Sure, she had her moments too, but her anger was nothing compared to her Momma's inner fire.

"I-I, yes I did. I put myself before you and I'm so sorry I did that. If I could turn back time, I would take all of it away and come back to you"

"You're lying, you got him home!" Sofia said as she again buried her head deep into the pillow. She wanted this feeling of… she didn't even know what exactly she was feeling, but she wanted it to stop.

She didn't want to be one of those children with divorced parents being pulled by them in opposite directions. She wanted a normal family, a happy family, with both her Mommy and her Momma and no one else.

No one.

She looked up at her mother as her crying had turned into mostly anger. Sofia wanted answers, she wanted to know everything, things that her Mommy didn't know. But most importantly, she wanted to know why her mother replaced her.

Her mother was quiet for a while.

"Sofia, you don't have to like him, but you have to accept him, he's your brother"

"I… I can't" Sofia replied. Her Momma could pop up and drop a brother on her. It wasn't fair, it just wasn't fair. Why couldn't she have picked out a girl. Why did it have to be a boy?

"Honey, for you have to try at least"

"Why?" there it was again Sofia's favorite word.

"Because you don't want to be in your thirties to realize that you have a niece that you know nothing about" Sofia looked up at her mother's sudden change of tone. Her Momma suddenly had tears in her eyes and looked shocked as she covered her mouth because of what she had blurted out.

"What?" Sofia asked timidly, she didn't want more unannounced siblings to pop from anywhere.

She saw her Momma close her eyes for a few seconds as she collected herself.

"Umm… Sofia, you know you have an aunt?" she said as she took a couple of breaths. Her Mommy did that whenever she talked about her daddy.

"Yeah, I have lots of aunts, I have Auntie April, Auntie Mer, Auntie Amelia..."

"No honey, not like that. Do you know Uncle… umm Uncle Tim?" of course she remembered him.

Uncle Tim was her Mommy's brother who died trying to save the country, he was a true hero and every year, his birthday marked the day that was designated for popcorn movie night with unlimited donuts and nothing else on the agenda.

Mommy always told her if he was watching them right now that's what he'd want. To see the people that he left behind happy and content. Sofia had heard so much about Uncle Tim that she often felt sad that she never got to meet him. But based on photos of her Mommy and him together, she was happy that she could put a face on all the embarrassing and fun stories her Mommy told about him.

Did her Momma's sister die too? Is that why her Momma looked so upset and shocked?

"Is… is she dead too like Daddy and Uncle Tim?"

Sofia knew that she was surrounded by great people. Most of her aunts and uncles were doctors who saved lives for a living, they were borderline superheroes who wore scrubs instead of capes.

But that also meant that people around her kept dying. Sofia had so far lost her Uncle Tim, even though she never really met him, she had lost the opportunity to meet him. She had lost her daddy, Uncle Der and many more people that she had heard stories about.

She knew there was an Uncle George in the picture too, who died because he tried to protect a lady from a bus. She had seen pictures of him with Auntie Mer and a couple of them with him and her Momma too, but she barely knew anything about him beyond the fact that he was a good guy.

That's one thing Sofia was not at all grateful about. People always kept dying on her.

"No, she… she's alive, but we don't talk" her Momma replied.

"Why?" Sofia was curious, why is this the first time she was hearing about her Aunt?

"She… when I told her about Mommy, she didn't like her and stopped talking to me"

"Why? Mommy is so nice, why would she stop talking to you because of Mommy"

"See… she was, she didn't like her because… hmm…" Her mother paused for a while as Sofia absentmindedly played with the hem of her pillow case as she watched her mother "Do you watch Disney movies?"

Sofia nodded.

"You know how in those movies the princess is supposed to fall in love with a prince, get married, have babies and live happily ever after?"

"Yeah?"

"Well, I didn't fall in love with a prince… I fell in love with a princess, and she didn't understand that" her mother admitted.

Sofia was thoroughly confused. She needed more information than this to go on. So she dropped her pillow and completely turned towards her mother.

"But it doesn't matter if you fall in love with a prince or a princess as long as you are happy with them and they treat you right, nothing else matters, at least that's what Mommy says and I totally agree with her"

Sofia saw how her Momma's expression changed from worried to happy as she leaned in and hugged her tightly. She didn't know why, but she didn't mind the hug.

"I love you so much Sofia, you know that. You understand so much at such a young age, something that your Aunt still doesn't"

"Still?" Sofia asked.

"Yeah, a while ago I called her to try to get her to talk to me, but she told me she didn't want anything to do with me, because I-I fell in love with a princess and had you before I married the princess"

"Momma that makes no sense" Sofia admitted. Even with the additional information she couldn't understand one bit of what her mother was telling her.

"You are right it doesn't"

"So, like Uncle Tim, I have an aunt?"

"Yeah"

Sofia had more questions in her mind though. She was done with the information her mother had just told her. Apparently she had an aunt too, who wanted nothing to do with her just because she had two moms instead of a dad and mom. Technically she had two moms and a dad.

Sofia rested her head on the crook of her Momma's neck content in being in her arms after so long.

"Are you sad that you don't get to spend time with your sister?"

"Yeah, all the time. Growing up, we were very close, we had each others back"

"Momma, I can't, I can't love him" Sofia admitted.

"I know honey, I'm just asking you to give him a chance. He's your brother, you don't want to do to him what happened to me right?"

"I can try, but I really don't like him"

"That's okay, as long as you try"

"Do I have to play with him?"

Her mother smiled. "If you want to you can"

"Hmmm… do I have to talk to him?"

"I would really like that, but it's totally your choice"

Sofia paused for a while. Even though she didn't want that boy in her house, he was her brother and clearly her mother cared about him. No matter how much she hated him, he was clearly integrated in their lives.

"I really did miss you Momma, you shouldn't have spent all these years away from me"

Sofia felt her Momma gently rubbing her back as she circled her arms around her. She missed this feeling. Sure her Mommy gave her hugs and kisses too all the time, but there was always a difference between the two of them. She loved them both equally, but over the years she had grown more fond of her Momma maybe because she hadn't seen her in a long time.

"I know honey, I missed you too. I'm so sorry but I promise that that will never leave you again"

"You promise?" Sofia asked as she pulled away from her Momma to offer her her pinky.

"Yes" she replied as she shook it.

"You know you pinky promised, that means that you can't break it, no matter what"

Callie nodded.

"Come on, let's go downstairs. It's way past your dinner time, you must be really hungry" her Mommy said before she lifted her up from her bed and placed her on the floor.

Sofia was big enough to get on and off the bed herself but she didn't mind being lifted up from time to time. Her Mommy stopped doing that a while ago. One day when she asked her why, she told her that it hurt her leg to do, but she still tried anyway, she lifted her up for a while but it hurt her that she was the reason her Mommy was in pain, so she never asked for it ever again.

She had a brother.

A small, annoying brother and she had just promised her mother that she'd try not to hate him. Even though every fiber in her body told her otherwise, she didn't want to be the cause of her pain.

Sofia was going to try, but it doesn't have to be today right?

She could try tomorrow. All she wanted today was to have dinner with her Mommy and Momma and pretend everything was alright.

A/N: Hmmm, the drama continues!

This was a particularly difficult chapter to write. Yes, the perspective of an eight-year-old made it difficult from the very beginning, but yeah getting Sofia to try to accept Finn without forcing it on her was hard to come up with.

I know you guys want them to talk, but as their history suggests they only talk when it's too late and when they have already reached the breaking point. Should I do that too? Should I be Ms. Evil-Spawn?

Once again, Reviews are always welcomed and in fact encourage me to write faster.
