A MockingJay Story Part 1 Chapter 1
"The unlucky Alexander's suffered again." The girl said. She was still in the same room telling the long story of this family.
"Because Violet Alexander was taken?" One of the girls asked.
"This is so sad. Violet was in a scary game twice. The boy she liked is dead. The girl Liam liked is dead. When does the story get happy?" The other twin girl, Charlotte asked.
"It's a real story," Dillon said. "It doesn't have to get happy."
"How do you know it's real?" Charlotte asked.
"Because I've been paying attention." Dillon answered.
"Taken by the enemy. The capitol is capable of truly horrible things. Unimaginable torture." The older girl said. "Meanwhile the rest of the Alexander family was in 13, and they had no idea what she was going through, or if she was even alive..."
District 13 was underground, hiding from the Capitol. Their home was a huge bunker. Katniss had her own room, next to her sister's and her mom's room. Shay had her own room, next to Finnick's and Liam's room. Clara's room was next to Liam's.
"18, 19, 20." Primrose counted. She held her hands over her eyes and faced a wall in her small room. Each room consisted of a small bed and a nightstand. There was a yellow light on the ceiling of each room. "Ready or not, here I come."
Prim walked out of her room and went down the hallway. She peered into Clara's room. It was empty. Prim went inside and checked under the bed. No one. She left her room and checked Katniss's room.
Katniss gave Prim a funny look. "What are you doing?" She asked her.
Prom put her index finder of her mouth. "Playing with Clara." She whispered.
"She's not in here." Katniss said with a smile.
"But you've seen her?" Prim asked.
Katniss grinned and nodded. "She went down the hallway." she pointed to the left.
Prim left the room and went in the direction that her sister pointed her in. Down the hallway were more rooms. Many doors were closed.
At the end of the hallway was a common room. There were tables and chairs all around the room. People at one table were playing cards. She saw Liam and Shay in that room together. They were sitting at the same table, talking.
Prim saw something under one of the tables and got closer. It was Clara. Prim bent her head underneath the table. "Found you."
Clara giggled and got out from under the table. "Now it's your turn." Clara said.
"Okay." Prim said. "Count as far as you can."
"You want me to count to 100?" Clara asked.
Prim's eyes widened. "You can count that far?"
"Yeah." Clara said.
"Wow. That's pretty good. Uh, you can just count to 20." Prim said.
Clara nodded and covered her eyes. "One, two, three..."
Across the room, Liam and Shay discussed Clara. "I don't know how to do this." Liam said. "Violet was only supposed to be gone for two weeks and then come home. Now we've been up-rooted and Violet's not here."
"When Katniss shot that arrow and the arena went dark," Shay said, "they bombed her district. Her home is gone. You still have a District to go back to."
"It's not a home since Emily was reaped." Liam said. He gave her a cold look. After a moment, he softened. "Why did they come for us? We're not important."
Shay's eyes narrowed at him. "Yes you are. You and Clara are important. You're Violet's family..." She put her hand down in the table gently. "The capitol has her and they are going to make her suffer..."
"Kidnapping her isn't enough?" Liam asked, sounding scared.
Shay took a few breaths before speaking. "Plutarch knew the Capitol would come for Violet's family after destroying 12. He sent a separate hovercraft to come save you and everyone else in the house."
"Well they missed a couple people." Liam said.
"Boggs said it was just you two when he went to retrieve you." Shay said.
Clara was fast asleep in her room, when the arena when dark. Liam stayed up late watching the game with Patrick.
Patrick looked over at Liam. "Not that it means much, but I hope Violet makes it. You guys have been through enough."
Liam turned his head back to Patrick. He was being sincere. Liam nodded at him.
Liam stood up and went over to the kitchen. He made himself a cup of tea and poured some of Violet's sleeping powder in it. She kept it in the cupboard. It was 11:30pm. He drank his tea in the kitchen.
"You're not going to watch the big showdown?" Patrick asked from the living room.
Liam stood in the archway between the two rooms, holding his tea mug. "I'm tired and I can't take the anxiety. I'll find out in the morning." Liam went up to his room, falling fast asleep before midnight.
Back in the room in 13, Liam explained to Shay, "That's the last thing I remember. I was asleep. I woke up here, in an underground bunker. Clara remembers 'flying.' They told me that this was District 13 and it wasn't destroyed. All that footage was forged by the Capitol all these years..." he buried his face in his hands. He put his hands down on the table. "Why didn't they bring Patrick and my dad?"
"I don't know." Shay said. "Have you asked Boggs or Coin?"
Liam sighed, "Coin is too busy. She's obsessed with Katniss right now." He leaned back in his chair. "Besides I'm a bit busy taking care of Clara."
Clara counted to 20 and left the room, looking for Prim.
"You're not alone here." Shay said. "We're all here to help with Clara." She folded her arms. "Plus she's been enrolled in the school here."
Liam smiled a little. "Yeah, Coin saw her reading and insisted she was ready for school. It would be nice for her to finally spent time with children her age."
"For four hours a day, anyway." Shay said.
"Maybe that will help with the sleepwalking." Liam said. He looked down the hallway where Clara was hiding.
Ever since Liam and Clara started living in District 13, Clara had been sleepwalking each night. She would leave her room late at night and walk down the hallway. One guard caught her by the stairs and turned her back down the hallway.
Clara sleepwalked to Prim's room one night, knocking her head on the door. Prim woke up with a flinch. She head the knocking from her door and slowly walked over to it. she gently grabbed the door handle, slowly turning it. She quickly opened the door and found the almost five year old on the other end. "Clara?"
Her eyes were closed. Her hair had gotten longer since they moved to 13. Clara walked into the room quietly.
"Woah, woah." Prim said. She followed Clara into her room and stood in front of her. She waved her hand over Clara's face. No response. Prim carefully turned Clara around, gently escorting her out of her room.
