I Won't See You Tonight Part 2
One week. It had been a week since Tristan had left him there to be imprisoned. He knew that he told Tristan to go, but he was now regretting not going with them. Ezra had been in chains with little to no food or water for a week. He could feel Sabine's kyber crystal, it was moving through space at the moment. His children were safe, as he could feel them through the Force, so he determined they were going to Lothal.
The cell door opened, and a new pair of guards showed up. He has taken time to analyze the transitions between shifts. The two to come after these two were always five minutes late. Ezra knew that that would be his time to get out. He had managed to acquire his old lock pick from his bag before he was captured; but hadn't had time to get it to his hands.
After another 2 hours, the guards left. This was his chance. 5 minutes and counting. With a swift move, Ezra pulled the pick into his hands and undid his binders. The floor was about 3 feet below him as he dropped down. The sound of him hitting metal was loud but not too loud. Rising up, he moved to the door and peered out. Nobody either way, so he moved on. He continued on till he came to an intersection. Probing the Force, he sensed troops off to the left and right. He then heard his lightsaber's crystal call from in front of him. Approaching a door at the end of the hall, the call got louder. Opening the door he found his saber sitting on a desk in the center of the room.
"This is way too easy." He said to himself. Not wanting to set off a trap by entering the room he reached out with his hand and pulled the saber to him.
Ezra was about halfway to the hangar bay when the alarms sounded. "I guess the guards showed up. Hmm, 7 minutes. Later every time." He chuckled as he moved on. Eventually the landing pad came into view. So did about 25 bucket heads. One happened to be looking the way he was coming and spotted him.
"You there, halt." The trooper got a few others and they rushed him.
"Hmmm… let me think about that. No." Ezra ignited his saber and proceeded to cut through the troops, one by one. Somehow, he made it an old TIE fighter. He had only killed about 4 troops because he had no choice. He jumped up and in the small pod. Firing the cannons, he shot his way off of the base and into space. Luckily this was an advanced TIE with a hyperdrive. After plugging in the coordinates for Lothal he took off back home, back to Sabine.
On Lothal
Sabine and Hera were playing with the babies while Jacen watched the holonet. They had been there the better part of the week, and still no word about Ezra. Sabine was growing more worried by the second. Hera didn't want to bring it up, but she knew it was killing her.
"You know he will come back. Noting will stop him from coming home to you." Hera said trying to reassure Sabine. It didn't seem to work. She still seemed depressed, even though she gave a happy face for the children.
"At this point, I am prepared for the worst, and I will know when those two," she pointed at Mira and Anna, "sense he is gone." Sabine was almost in tears. She was ready to give up on him, on their future.
Things had been this way since they arrived on Lothal. Sabine acting fine while not showing how she really felt. Hera trying to get her to open up just to get shut down. Until Ezra came home, life wouldn't be the same.
After about an hour of them sitting around, Sabine's com went off. The specific beep pattern indicated an incoming ship. The map showed a lone TIE fighter. She had a feeling she knew who I could be. However, she could be gravely mistaking. The TIE landed near the Ghost and the Gauntlet. When the hatch opened, Sabine drew her pistol, ready to shoot the Sith or stormtrooper that came out. When she saw who had flown the lone starfighter in, she dropped both her pistols and her helmet. Ezra was home.
They rushed to each other and embraced for a long time. The pair eventually sank to the ground as Sabine cried in relied her husband was home. Ezra held her muttering small pleasantries to sooth her, whilst rubbing his hand along her back. "It is okay, my love. I'm here. This won't happen again."
"I'm gonna make sure it is, even if I have to force you to get me pregnant again so you will stay." She was only half joking. She wanted more kids, but she also wanted to wait awhile.
"Yes, milady." Ezra held her tight as he saw Hera come out of the lift.
"You are the most reckless, self-sacrificial, arrogant, incorrigible person I've ever met Ezra Bridger. But I'm so happy you are back." Hera joined the two in a group hug. After a little while, the trio went into the tower to tend to the little ones. Jacen was fixed on the holo, Celeste was inspecting her toes with her mouth, and the twins were standing in the floor waiting for their father to return.
As the lift opened, Sabine stopped Ezra a few feet from the twins. He gave her a questioning look before following her gaze. He saw Mira, standing wobbly on her own, take a step. Anna stood and followed her sister's lead. The two twins slowly made their way to Ezra, who was now crouched to their level. A few more steps and the twins fell down, as expected. Ezra went and scooped up the two and held them close.
"I can't believe I left you for that long. I am a horrible father." Ezra looked down and placed the twins by their younger sister who did not seem fazed by anything. He walked to his room, leaving Sabine and Hera out in the living room. The two women just stared at him as he left.
"Go, he needs you now. I can take care of the little ones." Hera offered.
"Thanks, Hera." Sabine nodded and followed Ezra into the bedroom. She found him staring out the window with the lights off. "E-Ezra? Are you okay?" She asked slowly walking up behind him.
"I left, Sabine. I left you and our children. You had no idea whether I was alive or dead. I'm sorry." He never turned to look at her, just kept his gaze on evening sky.
"I know why you left. You went to stop something before it began…" She stopped when he turned to face her.
"And I failed, Sabine. I was captured and tortured for a week. The Sith are still going to try and come for our children and I am helpless to stop them." Ezra raised his voice, not quite yelling but not quiet.
"That is where you are wrong, my love. You have me." Sabine moved over and held her husband close. She missed him more than anything. After a few moments like this she spoke again. "I know how you found us."
That caught his attention. "W-What do you mean? We decided you would bring the children here to be safe." He stuttered as he looked in her eyes.
"Yes, but we never decided when to go. Just that we would. We could still be on Krownest, but no, we are here." She reached up and caressed his scarred face. Running her hand along his double scar, then the one on his cheek. She then reached for her necklace. "This is how you knew. I don't know how I didn't put the pieces together, but this is a kyber crystal isn't it?"
"Yes." Was all he could say. Ezra looked down at the jewel then at her face. His eyes tracing the small scar on her left cheek, the one he made. "I'm sorry, Sabine. I should have just stayed with you, now they will come again."
"Hera may have an idea about that. She met another Jedi while with the Rebellion. His name was Skywalker I think." Sabine said with her face embedded in his shoulder.
"You mean like Anakin Skywalker?" Ezra didn't understand, Ashoka said he died in the Clone Wars, protecting the Jedi of the temple on Corusant.
"I believe it is his son. Luke if I am correct. Do you remember Leia Organa?" She asked getting a slow nod in response. "Well I think he is her twin brother."
That was interesting information. Ezra thought that after Obi Wan and Yoda passed, that he would be the last Jedi. "Is he a true Jedi, or just claim to be?" he asked not wanting to put his faith in this 'Jedi'.
"You would have to ask Hera, love. But for right now, let's put the kids to bed. I wanna have some alone time with you." She gave him a sultry smile and walked out of the room. Swinging her hips as she did so.
And of course, Ezra followed like a lovesick Loth-Cat.
Well there is the end of that little arc. Hope you guys enjoyed. I will try and work Luke and Han and the rest into this story somewhere. And before you ask, this will follow Legends more so than Canon. So Mara Jade Skywalker, Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin Solo. Till next time I guess.
