Chapter 29
Purple Skies
Bella found herself on the couch. Voices around her murky, like she was underwater.
"She just had a panic attack Edward," Carlisle said calmly
"She passed out Dad! And she's not waking up!" Bella could feel Edward's hand on her head, while holding her hand too.
"It happens sometimes," Dr. Knight said.
"I never seen her panic like that," Charlie said.
"She can Charlie. I know it was scary to see, but I told you this can happen," Dr. Knight said. "She hasn't been sleeping, dreaming about them coming back. And now it might be a reality."
"This is why you wanted us here. We are here to support her, but as well support you," Carlisle said. "I will do everything in my power to help Bella with Dr. Knight. We will get through this together as a family."
Bella moaned. Edward moved off the couch next to Bella and kneeled down next to her.
"Edward?"
"Oh Bella! You're awake!"
"What happened?"
"You had a panic attack."
"My chest...it hurts. It hurts a lot." Carlisle nodded to Dr. Knight. She opened her purse and pulled out a bottle of pills.
"Charlie, some water please."
"Of course." Edward helped Bella sit up as Charlie brought Bella a glass of water. Dr. Knight opened the pill bottle and handed Bella a small pill.
"Take that, and drink all the water."
"Please tell me, you were just joking…"
"Bells, I wouldn't joke about that," Charlie said. "But there is more."
"Oh god, what?"
"Bella, please, take a few more deep breaths so you don't panic again," Dr. Knight said.
"What now?" Bella asked.
"Your grandmother called me."
"Nana Swan? She's dead."
"Not my mother, but your grandmother on your mother's side," Charlie said.
"Nana Higginbottom? Why?"
"Your mother hasn't come home in a few weeks."
"Mom is missing?"
"Don't go there yet."
"James, he has her! James and Victoria have Mom!"
"We don't know that yet," Charlie said.
"Why else would she be missing?! Oh god, it's my fault!"
"Bella no," Edward said.
"I sent her away! She left here because she had nowhere else to go! And I yelled at her! I blamed her for James and Victoria! She left and now she's missing! It's all my fault!" Bella started crying. Edward hugged Bella.
Do you see me? Do you love me?
Little girl cries as she waits for the fairy tale.
Knights in shining armor is her game.
Mesmerized by infatuation
Purple skies, butterflies, and love
Raindrops, dandelions, sacrifice
This is what I'm looking for.
The song "Purple Skies" by Amy Jo Johnson as Bella was showering. As Bella finished her shower in the bathroom, and was wrapping a towel around her naked body when she heard the window glass breaking downstairs. She screamed, waking up Edward in the bed. Edward barely got some some boxers as he rushed to find Bella. Edward found a naked Bella cowering in the back of the tub, scared for her life.
"Someone is trying to break in!"
"Stay here! Don't open this door!"
"Edward, don't go down there!"
"It will be fine! Keep this door closed!" Edward saw a bat in the hallway on his way down the stairs.
Edward returned after what felt like hours, but was actually just a few minutes. Bella jerked when Edward opened the shower curtain to find her still cowering there.
"Bella, it was bird. He crashed into the window and broke it."
"What?"
"Come on, let me show you." Edward helped Bella put on a robe. They went downstairs together. Bella saw the dead bird on the ground with glass around. Edward held her back.
"I will clean it up," Edward said.
"It's a sign."
"What?"
"It's a bad sign," Bella said. She knew about omens especially dead birds in house. Death is coming.
"No, don't go there Bella."
"Someone will die."
Alice tried to distract Bella with shopping. Bella was dressed in a green short sleeve button down satin top with blue denim jeans and black leather boots. Alice was dressed in a grey dress with flower ruffles, black cropped sweater, and black ballet flats.
"Oh Bella, do you like this purple bracelet?" Alice put it on her wrist.
"Yeah, it's nice."
"You're not even looking," Alice said sighing. Bella sighed.
"I'm sorry Alice."
"I get it." Alice looked at Bella. "But we have to find a dress for Jasper's birthday party."
"Don't you mean Jasper and Rosalie's birthday party?" Bella asked. Alice smiled. She tried on a jewel crown tiara on her head before shaking her head and taking it off. Alice handed money for the bracelet to the cashier.
"I guess so."
"They are twins, of course they will share a birthday party as well," Bella said.
"Whatever, she is just a…" Alice stood there froze not accepting the change back from the cashier.
"Alice?" Alice dropped her hand. "Alice!" Bella came to stand beside her. Bella waved her hand in Alice's face who was still frozen, staring off. The cashier and Bella exchanged a long stare before Bella tugged on Alice, and pulled her off to the side out of the line after taking the change. She immediately called Edward. Edward was in the men's sport's store for new baseball shoes when Bella called.
"Hey Beautiful.."
"Edward, something is wrong with Alice!"
"What? Where are you?"
"Forever 21!"
"I'll be right there."
Edward arrived and helped Alice to sit down at a table away from the crowd.
"What's wrong with her?"
"It's a vision or something…"
"A vision? Of what?"
"I don't know, unless she tells us," Edward said kneeling down to his sister. "Wait... I need paper and a pen." Bella went into her bag. "Alice, come on, talk to us. What is it?" Bella placed the paper and pen on the table. Edward grabbed the pen and put it into Alice's hand. He lead Alice's hand holding the pen to the paper. "Alice, draw it. I know you see something. Alice, what do you see?" Alice started drawing rapidly. Bella watched the paper fill with lines.
"Mirrors. Lots of mirrors." Bella let out a gasp as Alice finally spoke. "Man, blonde, ponytail. Woman, hair like red fire!" Bella watched Alice scratch out a drawing on the paper. "Fire! There's a fire! The man. Bella…Bella, she is not safe. They're coming." Bella gasped. "Edward, they're coming here!" Alice locked eyes with Edward finally.
Edward and Bella dropped Alice back home to rest. Jasper met them at the doorway.
"I'm sorry Bella. I really wanted to find your dress today."
"Alice, it's ok. Don't worry about it. You go rest."
"I will find your dress soon. I promise."
"It's fine. I can wear whatever." Alice smiled.
"Don't leave her Edward, she needs you." Jasper was quick help Alice inside the house. Bella looked over at Edward as he drove them to her house.
"Alice has visions?"
"Yeah, most of time she just dreaming. But there are times, those dreams, well, they come out even when she's awake. She goes into some trance, what you saw."
"And those dreams? Are real?"
"Yeah, they can come true."
"Like premonitions?"
"Yeah, but it's only when she draws them out do they seems real. Stronger like it can actually happen."
"She saw James, and Victoria, coming for me."
"The blonde man?"
"And Victoria has red hair. Like some scary red haired villain in a comic book."
"I never told Alice what they looked like?"
"Neither have I. I never told anyone. Sometimes it's scarier to remember their faces." Edward reached over and grabbed Bella's hand.
"I will protect you from them." Edward squeezed her hand.
"What if you can't?"
"Look at me Bella, I won't lose you again. I already said goodbye once to you. I can't do that again."
"I'm sorry I'm brought you into my mess."
"Your mess is my mess. Just like my mess is yours. I love you."
"I love you too." Edward reached over and kissed Bella. They kissed until a car behind them beeped.
"You believe me?" Bella nodded. "Good."
Charlie came into the living room to find Bella sitting there, staring off. Over the last month since Charlie told Bella that James and Victoria were spotted close, Bella has been spiraling downward. She was living through the motions, always distracted, and jumpy. Charlie sighed. He had found Bella in her room, just sitting in her rocking chair. Charlie felt so helpless. Bella was falling into a depression, she was losing her mind with worry about her mother missing, worrying about James and Victoria returning. All of worrying, and her nightmares, and Charlie knew he was losing his daughter. His babygirl shouldn't be going through this. It wasn't fair. There was a knock at the door.
"Hey Chief."
"Edward." Charlie nodded, the only bright spot was Edward's constant care of Bella. He rarely left her alone for long, which Charlie didn't mind now. Once around Edward did Bella act somewhat normal.
"Is Bella up?"
"Yeah."
"Can I see her?"
"Come inside."
Edward finds Bella in her room just sitting in her rocking chair staring off. He immediately goes to her side and kneels down to her level. Bella buries herself into Edward. She loves his arms around her. She knows no harm can come as long as Edward holds her. Edward moved into the rocking hair, with Bella in his lap.
"I'm lost."
"No you're not."
"You don't understand Edward. I'm scared all the time."
"I understand."
"No, you don't!"
"What don't I get?"
"She's gone too Edward. My mother is gone."
"We don't know that Bella."
"I do! I feel it." Bella sighed as she got off Edward's lap. "She wouldn't leave us like this, no word for months. She can be mad, but to not answer our calls or even her own mother. Something is wrong?"
"You can't think James…"
"Of course I can! Where else would she be?" Bella looked out her window.
"I can't believe this. Why would they come back now? Why take your mother? It's been years!"
"What if… what if they are just waiting for the right time to get me too?"
"I will do everything in my power to keep you safe Bella. If we have to, we'll go somewhere, just us." Edward stood behind Bella.
"Like run away?"
"If we must. I have some money saved, I'm sure I can get more for us if we need it," Edward said wrapping his arms around Bella.
"Where would we go?"
"Anywhere, everywhere they aren't. Carlisle still has family in Chicago. I have a great aunt in London. I never been there, and there is so much history in London, we would both love it." Edward gripped Bella's chin to force her to look up at him. He kissed her on the lips.
"We can't run forever."
"We can if it keeps you safe. And I will keep you safe." Charlie knocked on the door. Bella and Edward pulled apart to look at the door. Charlie looked at Edward's hand on his daughter's butt. Edward immediately released Bella.
"I ordered some pizzas for dinner," Charlie said.
"Ok, Dad, we'll be down."
Bella was unpacking her school backpack. It was mid-April now, only the full month of May and the first week of June left and her sophomore year would be done. Spring Break had started today though Bella had a few final projects and essays to start working on. Bella was dressed in a lovely white short sleeve peasant top with light blue denim jeans and her red high-top Converse sneakers. Bella looked at her phone to see her mother's name on the screen. She was going over to the Cullen's house for the night while Charlie works overnight. Charlie caved, and decided it was better Bella is staying with the Cullens when he works late.
"Mom? Oh thank god you finally called!" Bella said, sitting down.
"Bella! Bella!"
"Calm down Mom, where have been? It's been over three months and no one..."
"Bella!" Bella heard her mother cry out her name before she was cut off.
"Mom?"
"Oh, how I missed your mother Bella." Bella gasped as she felt her throat tighten.
"James?" Bella whispered.
"You didn't forget me."
"Why do you have her?"
"To find you of course child. Victoria was not happy to lose you. It's been years. We want you back."
"You sick bastards! How did you find me?"
"Your mother was smart enough to tell us how to get you. She give us some vital information about you and your Chief of Police father. Forks, what a small town."
"Bella!" Bella heard her mother's voice cry out her name again.
"Let her go!"
"And I will, when you get here."
"Where? Where are you?"
"Oh Bella, this is going to be like the old days, what fun."
Edward arrived outside Bella's house. When he knocked on the door, a letter fell out the mailbox. Edward grabbed the letter and opened it since it was addressed to him.
Edward,
I went to have dinner with my Dad at the station. He said he would take me by later. I forgot to mention it and I lost my phone charger to text you. I love you.
Bella
Edward frowned. He closed the letter and went to walk back to the car when the Chief's police car pulled up into the driveway.
"Oh hello Edward. What are you doing here?" Charlie asked opening his car door.
"Hey, Chief."
"Where is Bella?"
"Bella? She said she was having dinner with you and that you would be dropping her off later."
"No, she told me she was going out with you to the movies and dinner with you before spending the night."
"The movies and dinner? With me? But…" Edward gave Charlie the letter Bella wrote him. Charlie and Edward figure out quickly Bella lied to both of them and she's been missing since after school. Edward tried her phone again and got her voicemail. "Where the hell is she?"
