It was Jays favourite time of the day and he didn't get to do it very often. Usually he would be working late or stuck on a case overnight or he was just too tired that he would pass out in the lounge as soon as he would get home. But tonight he made sure to leave work early, luckily they only had paperwork to be done and he said he'd come in early the next morning.

So when it was Lily's bath time Jay stood up and grabbed her from her mother's arms. It was daddy daughter shower time. He wanted to soak this up as much as he could while she was still so young.

Erin waited about five minutes before she made her way into the shower, Jay smiled when she stepped in. For some reason this comforted him so much.

"Hey you too, hope I'm not intruding." Erin said.

Jay looked down wrapping his free arm around Erin, "You kidding? I love this, shame I can't do it more often."

"She loves this you know," Erin looked up and traced her fingers through Jays hair, "And look at those curls, that's were our daughter gets hers from."

"Not funny. You know that's why I keep it short." Jay said rolling his eyes.

"They are cute on this little one though," Erin said squeezing Lily's cheeks, "Aren't they munchkin?"

They both watched as Lily giggled and splashed the water with her hands. After they finished the shower Jay got her dressed in her pyjamas and put her to bed. Afterwards he went to bed where Erin was waiting patiently for him.

"She loves when she gets to spend the night with you, I know she's only young but when you give her her bottle before bed she goes to sleep a lot easier."

"I hate that I don't spend many nights with her, it sucks." Jay said sadly as he snuggled against Erin.

"I know but hey that's the job right." Erin smiled.

"I hate it sometimes," Jay sighed, "How are you feeling being back?"

"I have a love hate relationship I guess." Erin chuckled.

"What do you mean? Talk to me Er."

"It's just I love being back, trust me I love Chicago streets even on the cruelest of days and I love being back with intelligence and working by your side but..."

"You miss being home?" Jay interrupted.

"Yep. Part of me still asks whether I done the right thing. I know I did but doesn't mean I'll stop missing Lily." Erin smiled.

"Yeah I know, at least Hank let's you go home early most nights."

"Well that was the deal, only on the toughest cases and the ones that are necessary for me to be there I stay as long as needed but if not I get to come home to our girl. I just wish you could aswell babe I know you would if you could." Erin said stroking Jays chest.

"I know but hey some one has to do the dirty work. And I choose this job, I just didn't realise having Lily would be this close in my future." Jay shrugged.

"You never thought about kids?" Erin said intrigued.

"Uh well not really, I mean when I got with you and we moved in together I thought maybe marriage and kids were in the picture but then you left so I just pushed it way way back."

"You thought about marriage too?"

"Hell yes, with you Erin I could see my whole future as clear as anything."

Erin smiled, "I always thought about it with you too and never once did I feel like that with any other guy but your something else."

"Well seeings though we already had one massive surprise that changed our future for the better I'm looking forward to what else it holds." Jay said kissing the top of her head.

"Me too, whatever else that me be."

Couple days after Jay and Erin's late night chat, Jay found himself standing infront of Voight's door. He stood nervously but patiently after he knocked waiting for him to answer.

As the door opened Jay took one last breath and then was met with a very confused Hank, "What's wrong Halstead?"

"Nothing I just wanted to chat about a few things if you have time?"

Hank nodded, "Sure, come in."

Hank made room for Jay to step inside, Jay sat and waiting in the living room as Hank went and got him a glass of whisky. It took Jay a few seconds to speak he could feel all the blood rushing out of his body and it made it worse when all he could see was Voight with a skeptical look on his face.

"So Hank, Erins been back in my life for a little more then a year now and its made me realise how much I want her being in my life to stay that way. Shes given me a beautiful daughter that I love so much it makes my heart hurt and seeing her become a mother has only made me love her more," Jay took a breath and noticed Hank with his eyebrows risen waiting for the punchline, "I guess what I'm trying to say or ask is that I want to get your blessing for Erins hand in marriage."

Jay took another breath as Hank slowly sat forward in his chair, pouring himself another glass of whisky, he took a sip and then met Jays eyes. He could tell the young man was nervous.

He cleared his throat then held out his hand for Jay to shake, Jay hesitated but then extended his arm, Hanks grip was definitely firm and tighter then any other handshake before, "Been waiting for this Halstead. Look you have a lot of balls and I respect that, she's lucky to have someone like you that has always fort for her. Welcome to the family."

Jay let the breath he didn't realise he was holding out and smiled, "Thanks Sarge. I won't let her down."

"Well you know what will happen if you do." Voight smirked.

Jay nodded, he knew exactly what that mean.
