Once Maggie had gotten Kara situated under the sunlamps in the DEO, she got prepped to take the kryptonite blade out.

Kara stared at her warily, the kryptonite sucking away all her energy not being the only reason for her pale complexion. "Are you sure you know what you're doing?"

"Of course," Maggie said a little less confidently than she had meant to. "We just need to get this out so you can heal on your own. No need to fuss with any of the doctors."

"Or Alex."

Maggie paused, a latex glove half on her hand. "She wouldn't be able to do anything blind; if something went wrong, she wouldn't be able to see it."

Kara looked down at Maggie's hand gripping the knife while leaning back. She grimaced. "Have you heard from Alex lately?"

"No," Maggie said, "but we've been pretty busy. I haven't checked my phone at all."

"Neither have I," Kara said. "I'm sure she's doing alright in the lab, though."

"Okay, on three," Maggie said.

She had one hand on the hilt of the knife, every little twinge sending nails through Kara's abdomen. Her breaths were shorter, sharper and she could feel the kryptonite poisoning worsening. "Just do it," Kara said.

"Three," Maggie said and pulled the knife out quickly but carefully.

Kara groaned, hissing loudly as the tip of the blade exited her abdomen. "God, I hate that feeling."

Maggie glanced at Kara as she disposed of the knife in a hazard bin and then pressed a gauze pad to the open wound. "I hate that you know specifically what a stab wound feels like."

Kara shrugged. "It's a risk that comes with the job." She closed her eyes and inhaled, absorbing the artificial sun rays. She healed under the sun lamps so much faster when her powers weren't toast. "Alright, I'm good."

"Already?"

Kara nodded, moving Maggie's hand to reveal perfect skin. "All good," she smiled.

"Well, that was quick."

Kara hopped off the table, spinning lightly. "I'm going to go see if Alex has burned down the lab yet."

Maggie chuckled. "I'll join you; I'd love to witness something like that."

Down the hall and to the right, Kara knocked on the frame of the lab door, but she stopped short. She peeked her head in, scanning the room. "Alex?"

Maggie brushed by her and headed over to the computer. She tapped the screen and the computer powered on. "She was tracing the Romeo and Juliet book purchases," Maggie said, reading the data.

"Did she find a lead?"

Maggie's eyes flitted back and forth. "Uh, I don't know."

Kara pulled out her phone. "Alex called me. An hour ago."

"Damn it," Maggie said, pushing off the desk.

"She left a voicemail." Kara listened, shutting her eyes. "Damn it, Alex."

"What did she say?"

"She did find a lead," Kara said, "and she followed it."

"What?"

"201 Birchfield Drive," Kara said, already on her way out the door. "Let's go."

"God," Maggie sighed. "Danvers, if you did something stupid, I am going to kill you."

….

Rain pattered against a window, the smell of jasmine and embers floating in the air. Alex opened her eyes to nothing. Her hands were bound behind her, and from what she could feel, she was seated on the floor against a wall. She turned her head to her left where she could feel another presence. "What do you want?"

A slight inhale. "I'm impressed, Alex," she said.

"I knew I recognized that voice," Alex said. "You're not Lena Luthor, though, so who are you?"

"I am Lena Luthor," she said, chuckling lightly.

"Which earth are you from?" When Lena didn't answer immediately, Alex snorted. "Yes, I do know about the multiple earths. I've met a very different version of my sister before, so I'll ask again: which earth are you from Ms. Luthor?"

Lena chuckled. "I don't think you're in a position to be making demands, Alex. However," she sighed, "I'll oblige you." Lena's heels clicked across the wooden floor, stopping in front of where Alex sat. "I am from Earth-Z."

"And what brings you here to Earth-38?"

"Supergirl."

Alex rolled her eyes. "Of course."

"That doesn't surprise you?"

"No," Alex scoffed. "The Lena Luthor here is head-over-heels for Supergirl. Although," Alex pondered, "that doesn't explain why you would murder three aliens."

"Actually, the explanation is perfectly clear."

"How so?"

"On my earth, Supergirl is a tyrant. She killed my family and tried to kill me. I couldn't hurt Earth-Z's Supergirl, so I figured maybe I could here. Just for fun."

"You're crazy," Alex said. "Our Supergirl never hurt you. She's never harmed anyone she loved."

"Loved?"

Alex closed her eyes. Damn it.

"This earth's Supergirl loves Lena Luthor?"

Alex remained silent, but she knew no matter which earth she was from, Lena Luthor was smart enough to know the answer.

"Thank you, Agent Danvers," Lena said. "I'll be sure to give this Lena your regards."

"No!" Alex yelled, struggling against her bindings, but she had no idea where she was or what it looked like, so even if she did get free, there would be little chance of escape. "No!"
