Chapter IV: The Oasis

Sacred Oasis, Northern Water Tribe

Aang, Katara, Sokka all followed the princess into the spirit oasis.

Aang looked around in pure amazement. "This place is so much more different from the rest of the city. We are stepping on actual grass. There are actual trees growing here!"

Katara added, "It is fascinating. How is this possible?"

Princess Yue giggled to herself, "As I said this is the most spiritual place in the city. This small oasis is fueled by energy from the Spirit World. Everything grows here."

Aang then gazed up at the sky and spoke with adoration in his tone, "Just fascinating. This reminds me of home. It reminds me of my people back at the Hidden Temple." The airbender then stared dejectedly at the ground. The air around him suddenly whipped around.

Sokka and Katara noticed this and eyed him worriedly.

Katara placed a hand on his shoulder. "Everything ok sweetie?"

Aang took in a deep breath and calmed himself down. I'm sure they got out fine. He then turned towards Katara and gave her a curt nod. "I'm fine sweetie. I was just thinking about my people back at the Temple. I'm wondering if they managed to escape the Fire Nation."

Katara gave her boyfriend an understanding nod and turned his face towards hers. There is a coldness in his eyes I have not seen in a long time. "You want to talk about it? You know I'm always here to listen."

Aang let out an anguished sigh and shook his head. "We can discuss it later."

Katara then gave him a nod.

Sokka put a hand on the airbender's shoulder. "We're here for you buddy." He then shot a glance at the warrior and flashed him a small smile. "Thanks Sokka."

Princess Yue then dropped to her knees. She focused her gaze on Tui and La. The two spirits were swimming after one another in endless motion.

Aang's eyes bounced in wonder as he watched them. "What are those fish doing in that pond?"

Yue glanced at Aang with a smile on her face. "These are the spirit forms of Tui and La. They are spirits that came to this land long ago to grant the people of the Water Tribes the ability to waterbend and live our way of life." They are also responsible for maintaining the tides of the ocean that all the four nations depend on for balance. Their constant motion towards one another is what maintains the balance in our world. Without their presence, this world would fall into chaos and the people of the Tribes would lose our ability to bend. I'm sure they would like to thank Kuzon for saving their lives."

Yue then put both her hands together and closed her eyes "Oh gracious moon spirit, please appear before me."

Suddenly, A beam of light began shining underneath the water in the pond. Then, The beam of light shot out of the pond and into the sky. The winds around them sped up in ferocity and began whipping around. The ground itself began to shake. Everyone suddenly felt a bit off-balance. The beam of light was so bright that everyone except Kuzon had to cover their eyes with their arms. Sokka let out a grunt. Damn that is bright! I can barely see anything! The large beam of light then began narrowing in width until it practically disappeared.

Aang, Sokka and Katara then opened their eyes and couldn't believe what they were seeing. A tall spirit stood before them. She was dressed in a Water Tribe parka and had long white hair than ran down to her shoulders. It flowed and swayed with the wind. She also had cerulean blue eyes. Her features were somewhat aged, but also youthful in a way.

Katara was gazing at the woman with a look of awe in her eyes and redness in her cheeks. She is so beautiful! She reminds me of my mother!

Avatar Suzin then glanced upon Princess Yue and sent her a warm smile. "Ah hello Princess Yue! It is good to see you again."

Princess Yue then stood up and gave the Avatar a respectful bow. "Avatar Suzin, thank you for coming to my aid so quickly."

Katara let out a sudden gasp, "Wait Avatar Suzin? Didn't Kuzon mention meeting her in the Spirit World back at the Hidden Temple?"

Aang glanced at her and gave her a quick nod, "That he did." He said she reminded him of you.

Katara then switched glances between Kuzon and Suzin. She suddenly went beet red in the face. She does look very familiar. She is like an older version of me.

Avatar Suzin then spoke in a gentle tone, "I received a distress call from Tui. What seems to be the problem precious one?"

Yue then gestured to Kuzon's limp form. "I called you here because the Avatar is badly hurt! He was gravely injured while ferociously defending the city from the Fire Navy. He needs to be healed. The balance of the world depends on it." Yue spoke that last sentence with serious urgency.

Avatar Suzin then glanced at Kuzon. Her brows softened in concern. Kuzon. You poor child.

Avatar Suzin then floated towards the unconscious Avatar.

Katara, Sokka and Aang were all watching her every move.

Suzin quickly glanced at all three of them and gave them a small smile. "At ease you three. I mean the Avatar no harm. My name is Suzin. I was the Avatar before him."

Katara stammered out, "Y-You're Avatar Suzin? You are so much prettier than I imagined. My name is Katara. It is such an honor to meet you."

Suzin smiled at the young waterbender and gently grasped her hand in hers. "You must be Katara of the Southern Water Tribe. I have been watching over him as time has passed. You were the one who taught him how to waterbend for the first time. You and your brother also saved him from the iceberg and sheltered him when his life was in grave danger. You and your brother Sokka have stood by his side at his darkest moments. You both have my sincerest gratitude."

Katara went red at the woman's comments. "I-It was nothing! Kuzon saved our home from destruction! It was the least we could do!"

Sokka grinned at the waterbender spirit, "Yeah Kuzon is like a brother to us! He has our back and we have his!"

Avatar Suzin gave the warrior a nod. She then grasped one of Kuzon's hands and studied it, "I sense he went through a great battle. His wounds and burns are many and have spread throughout his whole body. The Avatar spirit has kept him alive, but he won't survive without more healing."

She then took him from Aang and Katara and set him down. She grasped both hands in his, smiled warmly at him and gazed deep into his eyes. "My dear Kuzon, when you first met me, you were scared of your destiny. You were unsure of whether you could truly bring balance to the world. I have seen and come to understand the struggles you have endured. Despite this, you willingly risked your life to defend the peoples of the Water Tribes even though they treated you with such hostility at first. You could have chosen long ago to abandon your destiny and doom the world to more senseless destruction and carnage. Instead, you embraced your role as the true balancer of the world and gave your life to defeat the invaders of my homeland. I thank you from the bottom of my heart."

She then gazed at her successor with a hardened look in her eyes. Her voice suddenly had a commanding presence to it. It was like a thousand voices were speaking through her. "I promise you that you will not die on this day Avatar Kuzon. Tis is not your time. You must defeat the Fire Nation and end this horrrendous conflict! You are the only one who can!"

Avatar Suzin then closed her eyes and opened them again. They were pure white and glowing. She soon started transferring some of her spirit energy to Kuzon's body. Kuzon then opened his eyes. They were also glowing. The spirit energy from Suzin was immediately healing his wounds and burns. They were all closing in a matter of seconds.

Katara was looking on in awe. "It's amazing. She is healing his wounds as if it is nothing." She then stared at her own hands with a guilty look in her eyes. "I wish I was that good at healing."

Aang then put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Hey c'mon she is from the Spirit World. You can't honestly compare yourself to her Katara. She probably had years of experience learning. Don't be so hard on yourself. You are an amazing healer. I'm living proof of that."

Katara turned towards her boyfriend and smiled gratefully at hm. He always has my back. "Thanks sweetie!" She then kissed him on the cheek.

Sokka made a face. Oogies!

Avatar Suzin had finished healing Kuzon's injuries. His body was now completely healed.

Kuzon let out a loud groan in pain and opened his eyes. "Ugh what happened?" He then tried to stand himself up but found himself to be too dizzy.

Katara and Aang both then rushed to his side.

Katara then caught him in her arms. She had a relieved smile on her face and tears in her eyes. She wrapped her arms around him tightly and buried her face in his neck. "Kuzu you're alive! I was so worried! You scared the hell of out of me!" She then started crying tears of joy.

Kuzon's eyes widened in realization. "Katara is that you?"

Katara let out a sigh. She turned his face towards hers and smiled warmly at him. Her face reddened a bit. "Yes it is."

Kuzon felt his face redden. He began to shiver a bit at her touch. What is this feeling?

Katara thought to herself. I'm never letting him out of my sight again! I'm going to be watching over him like a hawk!

Aang sent his girlfriend a questioning look and raised an eyebrow in suspicion. Why is she staring at hm like that? He then waved it off with a hand. Ah it is probably nothing. Katara is my girlfriend. She loves me and only me. I have nothing to fear from Kuzon.

He let out a nervous chuckle and put a hand on the firebender's shoulder. "You had me worried there hothead. I thought you finally bit the dust."

Kuzon gazed at his longtime friend and chuckled half-heartedly, "Not a chance in hell airhead. Who would be around to give you relationship advice?"

Aang let out a small laugh and widely grinned at him. "You got a point there."

Kuzon then noticed Avatar Suzin standing before him. He stared at her in awe. "Suzin what are you doing here?"

The elder waterbender then smiled at him. "Princess Yue informed me you needed healing. I came by to heal your injuries Kuzon."

Kuzon then took a good look at himself. He then grinned at her. "Well you did a hell of a job. I owe you!"

Suzin smiled at the young Avatar. "I believe it is the other way around young Avatar. You saved my home and stopped the Fire Lord from reigniting the war. I am in your debt."

Kuzon gave the woman a stunned nod. "J-Just doing my duty."

The elder waterbender smiled back at him. She then began floating away. "I must go now. You must go to the Earth Kingdom young Avatar. There you will meet your earthbending master." She then floated away until she was completely out of view.

Kuzon then pryed himself out of Katara's grasp and stood himself up.

Katara eyed him worriedly and desperately grasped one of his hands tightly. "Are you sure you can stand? You just got healed Kuzu! I don't want you aggravating your injuries."

Kuzon gazed back at her and half-grinned, "I'm fine Katara. I've never felt better actually. Don't worry so much! Please just stop holding on to my hand so tightly!"

Katara just let out a frustrated sigh, pouted at him and let go of his hand. "Alright then."

Aang then put an arm around her reassuringly and grinned at her. "He's fine sweetie. Please relax yourself."

Kuzon let out a sigh. When did she get so protective of me suddenly? He then smiled warmly at Princess Yue and bowed before her. "Thank you for bringing me here! I owe you my life!"

Princess Yue giggled to herself and smiled at him warmly. "It is I who owes you Kuzon. You and your friends saved my home. I am in your debt!" She then bowed regally before him.

Kuzon half-smirked at her. "Just doing my job your highness!" He then turned towards Sokka. "Hey Sokka! Do you know where we can find some grub? I am starving!"

The warrior crossed his arms and grinned at the firebender. "I don't! But I'm sure we could find some food somewhere! We are in the land of ice and seal jerky!"

Kuzon then smirked at the warrior. "Sounds like a plan!"

Everyone then laughed at Sokka's joke
