If you were to look under the third dryer, you would see Duchess Swan with her nose deep in the latest issue of Vogue. You never would've guessed that she was thinking about Poppy O'Hair. She was stealing glances at her between in articles. Pictures of the most beautiful woman in the world were in the palm of her hand, but none of them were as beautiful as Poppy.
"Alrighty" Holly said. "Time to hop back in the chair and see how your highlights turned out."
"I was hoping Poppy would do it" Duchess said. "I made the appointment with her."
Duchess settled back in the stylist chair.
Holly frowned. "It doesn't matter. I can do it too."
Duchess narrowed her eyes. "I'd rather Poppy do it."
"Why do you care so much?" Holly hissed.
Duchess bit her lip. She wasn't quite ready to admit that she had feelings for Poppy to anyone, much less Poppy's sister. She watched Poppy sweep hair across the room. Holly followed her gaze.
"Oh" she said, as realization struck her. She smiled coyly. "That changes everything. Hey Poppy!"
Poppy looked up from her sweeping. "Yeah?"
"Do you mind finishing Duchess's highlights? Blondie is coming in for a haircut in a few minutes and wants to discuss our Mystical Marketing project."
Poppy let her broom against the wall. "Ok."
Holly squeezed Duchess's shoulders and sashayed over to the broom. Poppy began to unwrap the foil on Duchess's head.
"These turned out really well" Poppy said.
Duchess blushed. "Thank you."
Poppy smiled warmly. "You're welcome!"
Duchess rose from the chair. She caught Holly's knowing gaze. She took a deep breath and faced Poppy.
"Hey, are you doing anything tomorrow?"
"I think I'm-"
Holly quickly walked over and wrapped an arm around her sister. "She's free tomorrow."
Poppy furrowed her brow. "What's going on?"
Duchess's blush deepened. "I think your sister is saying we should go out. I wouldn't mind. It'd actually make me really happy."
It was Poppy's turn to blush. "Oh..."
"Look, we don't have to if you don't want to."
"No, no, I wouldn't mind it. It actually sounds really nice."
Holly squealed and clapped her hands together. "After Blondie's appointment, I say we close early and I help Poppy get ready for tomorrow."
Duchess pulled out her phone. "I have to get going. I'll pick you up at noon tomorrow."
Poppy smiled. "It's a date."
