Chapter 29.

Zoran

When Maul arrived at the Nighsisters, he grabbed the Jedi and started to drag him toward the fortress. The Jedi's face rubbed against the hard dry ground, large pieces of skin ripped off as he was pulled across the terrain. The Nightsisters standing outside made way for him. Maul kept going looking in front of him, not wanting to pay any attention to the women. His arms were getting tired, he wanted to drop this dreadful person, but he also wanted to drop his body where not even his soul, if he even has one still, would survive.

He dragged him from island to island, while curious eyes followed his every move.

When he got to the last island, his mother was already there, waiting for him. From Maul's face, her light green eyes ventured to the body at his feet. She didn't say anything, just bowed her head, and let Maul pass her. He dragged the body to the edge of the island close to the glowing green water, picked it up, lifted it over his head, and then threw it into the water. He watched it slowly sinking toward the deepest depth of Dathomir. He turned around when he felt a hand touch his shoulder. Mother Talzin looked into his eyes and said. "Thank you, my son."

Then she gestured toward the other end of the island where Kyra stood silently.

As Maul approached her, she ran to him and flung herself into his arms. Fiercely, she hugged him and then pressed her lips to his. When Maul broke the kiss, he squatted down in front of her and gazed at her flat stomach. Then he looked up and his eyes met Kyra's. They were full of love and fear, she thought. Then his eyes ventured back to her stomach, and then he hugged her and buried his face into her shirt.

While Kyra caressed his head, she felt that he was in pain. Not just from the fight, but losing his brothers, especially Savage, took a toll on him. She felt his agony just as if it was hers. Then she pulled him up, gazed into his eyes, and asked.

"He told you I was with child?"

Bowing his head, Maul said with apprehension. "I have never been afraid, I'm a strong person, and I can take a lot of pain, but this child is scaring me." Kyra started to smile a little when he continued with terrified eyes. "I am terrified." At that moment, he looked like a different person, Kyra had never seen him like this before.

He was afraid to become a father. This amused her. The Sith lord, who can kill anybody or anything without remorse, was afraid of a child. Suddenly, Kyra had to laugh. As her laughter filled up the cave, Maul's lip curled into a small grin.

The next day Maul, Kyra, and some of the women went back to the Nightbrother's village. They collected the Jedi and left their bodies not far from a path where the Rancors roamed every day for food. The Nightbrothers bodies were burned and their ashes were taken back with the sisters. When it was time to burn Savage's body, Maul walked up to him and placed his lightsaber into his hands. Igniting his own, he cut a horn off his brother's head, and then he lighted up the pyre.

While he watched the fire burn, his mind was on the trip to Iridonia.

The following day, Maul left Dathomir leaving Kyra behind. She wanted to go with him, but he told her it was a bad idea. He needed to go alone and she respected his wishes. When he'd be back with the others, things would change around here that he knew for sure. Together, as Nightsisters and Nightbrothers, they would live with each other. No more separate lives.

A few months passed by when he came back with two dozen men.

After agreeing with her son, Mother Talzin allowed the men and women to live under one law and rule as equals.

Kyra's flat belly was no more, Maul noticed. She had a small bump underneath her loose top, which he caressed gently while her kisses were on his lips.

Months later...

"It's time." Old Daka said to Maul, who was pacing outside, his thoughts in turmoil.

"She is strong." She quipped and then she turned and went back inside. Maul sensed that Kyra was in great pain, however, this pain was a different kind. It was an urgent and powerful feeling, a mixture of sadness and happiness, and unconditional love.

Then he heard it. A strong and beautiful sound of crying cut through the cave's quietness.

He ran inside and followed the sound. On the middle of one of the islands was Kyra lying on a low stone table, surrounded by the women. In her arms was a small body all wrapped up. He approached them and then Kyra held out the child and placed it into Maul's hands. He looked down and opened the blanket. Bright green eyes looked back at him. It was a boy with pale skin like Kyra's, but on the top of his head, tiny horn buds were already showing that indeed he was a Zabrak. A powerful sensation surrounded him, something Maul had never felt before. His son was perfect.

Years later...

Kyra watched as Maul and Zoran were practicing in the training yard. It's been more than eight years when Kyra herself was beaten in this very same yard. Now Maul was getting the short end of it, she thought smilingly.

Zoran was getting taller every day. His fighting skills were good for a child, he moved quickly and precisely. Somehow he always knew where the next strike would come from and he evaded them with ease. Soon it was time for him to forge his own lightsaber, she thought with pride. My son. My beautiful, strong, and powerful son.

Kyra was happy to have a family on her own. Looking at the two most important men in her life gave her a warm feeling inside. She knew the time would come when Zoran would leave and take his own journey. Then she saw Maul walking up to Zoran and pulled something out of his pocket. Kneeling down in front of his son, he placed it around his neck. Turning toward Kyra, Zoran proudly showed her his new talisman, the horn of Savage. With a big smile, he motioned for her to join them.

"Come mother." He said. "I'll take on both of you." Then he added with a laugh. "Maybe I'll go easy on you."

The end.

Thank you so much, everyone! May the Force be with you!
