30. kiss

Chi-Chi swirled the cocktail in her hand and sat back on the sofa and watched with sleepy, hooded eyes as her little granddaughter crawled around the floor. A party on the eve of Christmas. A party where the adults could drink and the kids could be watched and everyone could have a good time. Too bad it wasn't snowing outside anymore. They'd already had quite enough fun out there to last several years in the future.

It wasn't every day that they all got to hang out. All of Goku's friends gathered under one roof. Friends and family. But then again, this was what Bulma was best known for – huge parties celebrating holidays. Any excuse for her to throw a party seemed good enough, honestly.

Chi-Chi wasn't one to stay up this late, though, even if her husband and his friends had yet to leave their little arm wrestling match in the corner. She hummed as she watched and thought back on the day's events. So much had happened in the past few years. It seemed like time kept running its course and leaving her scrambling to keep things together. Oh, where had the time gone? It felt like only yesterday she was kissing Goku on the cheek after he proposed – or clinging to him after their wedding – or wrestling with him under the sheets as they used to explain it to the kids when they were young.

Now they had not only had two wonderful boys, they had a granddaughter. Finally, a girl to watch and fuss over. She couldn't wait for Pan to grow up and join her in normal activities, even if she was sure Gohan and Videl would allow her to train with Goku as much as she wanted, too. Couldn't really breed the fighting out of a Saiyan child after all. She just had to accept that much.

Chi-Chi kept her eyes on her grandbaby, smiling as the girl crawled around the floor of new toys. Videl sat on the rug playing with her and calling to her, and Chi-Chi lost herself in the memories of doing the same for Gohan and Goten. Oh and with Gohan there had been Goku to hover around and help out, too, much as Gohan no doubt did for Videl from time to time. She was so proud of him. He'd grown into such a fine young man.

Sinking into the couch, Chi-Chi leaned back and sighed sleepily, closing her eyes. It really was far too late to be out and about, but this was what happened at Bulma's parties. As someone who liked to go to bed early and wake up before sunrise, she would never be used to staying up past midnight. Not when she'd normally wake up a few hours from now. Sleeping in with Goku would be nice, though, and knowing him, he'd carry her home if she fell asleep her on the couch, too.

"Chi, you awake?"

"Hm?"

At Goku's voice and touch on her shoulder, she lifted her eyes and tried not to yawn. "Yeah. Only just. Why?"

"Come here. I wanna do something."

She hummed at the interesting choice of words, knowing right away that Goku was up to something. Regardless, she took his hands and got to her feet, earning a grin from him. He lightly squeezed her hands then led her to a nearby doorway.

Looking around, she tried to figure out what he was planning. Surprises from Goku were always something to celebrate and appreciate, but most of the time she could get some hint or clue before he swept her off her feet. But she had to frown this time because nothing seemed all that obvious to her.

The group of family and friends that had come over to Bulma's were all gathered nearby. Yamcha, Pu'ar, and Master Roshi in one corner. Krillin stood by his wife, holding his daughter who was already asleep and probably drooling on his shoulder. Bulma hung near the large tree in the main room, and Gohan and Videl sat on the rug where Pan had fallen asleep amid the bunch of new toys.

She had to look around a bit to find Goten, but it didn't take too long to spot his hair near the pile of unopened gifts. He seemed to be enraptured, along with Trunks, by whatever Goku was planning, which only made her frown deeper. Was this something the others were in on? Why were they all watching?

"Goku -"

"Shh, Chi-Chi, hang on," Goku hushed her, dropping his hold on her hands to point above them. "Bulma says this mistletoe stuff means I can kiss you, even if it's front of everyone."

Immediately, her face flushed. "Wait. Wha-"

She didn't get a chance to complain. Goku did exactly as he had said. He leaned down and captured her mouth in his. While she flushed red hot because in front of everyone. Chi-Chi had told him long ago, shortly after Gohan's birth, that any such intimate moments were reserved for when they were alone. That's how she had been brought up and that's what she considered appropriate. She didn't like to show too much affection with him out in public. It just -

It wasn't proper!

But -

But she couldn't stop herself from enjoying what he did with his tongue and lips once he got going. Thankfully, it didn't fall into a full out make-out session or anything, but her blush still reached all the way to her neck. She could feel the heat flushing beneath her dress. And yet she still clung to him. She responded. She gave back as much as he gave her.

And then it was over and she was breathless and panting. "Why -?"

Goku grinned and kissed her forehead. "Sorry, I know you like to keep it private, but I had to squash some rumors."

"Rumors?"

Her mind flitted a million miles a minute, trying to figure out what he could mean. Then she noticed the whispering and laughing and she nearly punched Goku for making her do something so embarrassing in front of their friends and family. Oh! She was going to let him have it later!

Of course, then she heard Goten speaking to his best friend. "Told ya they kiss, Trunks. I don't know what your dad was on about, but I bet they do it all the time, too!"

Goku must have heard their son, too, because he winked at her and then turned to the boys. "Of course we do. What do you think married couples do where no one else can see, huh?"

Goten laughed. "See, Trunks? Now pay up. I win this one!"

Still flushing, Chi-Chi tuned out the other words. She tuned out everything. Everything except her Goku. Who had returned his gaze to her. She knew that look in his eyes. She knew it all too well.

And this time, when he leaned in for a kiss, she gave in gladly.
