Chapter 39: Pregnancy: Month 8
Agent BM: Thx, and yes that's coming soon
March
Spring was back in the air. The trees grew back their green leaves, flowers were blooming, birds were coming back from the South, and the air began getting warmer. And Honey was now only one month away from having her baby.
While she was excited, she was starting to feel very comfortable. Her mid section was now very large and round, her practice contractions began getting more frequent, and sometimes she had bad indigestion.
While Zeke comforted her the best he could, she couldn't wait for her baby to finally arrive.
At her weekly appointment with Dr. Brandon, he gave her a little physical, and monitored the baby's growth.
"So how've you been feeling, Honey?" Dr. Brandon asked.
"Well to be honest I could be better." Honey replied.
"Feeling a bit uncomfortable?"
"Yeah, I mean I already love my baby, but when's it going to come out?"
"Don't worry, Honey. It won't be like now, just a few more weeks."
"Right."
"By the way, you should be preparing for when you have to go to the hospital."
"Okay, I will."
So when she got home, she and Zeke made a plan. She packed a suitcase with enough clothes to last about three days. Zeke made sure their cars were working right and were filled with gasoline.
And they took a couple runs to the hospital, using different ways in case something happened on one of the routes. Everything was going to be okay. Then one day Honey and Zeke were in their childbirth class.
"Now when you feel another contraction coming on, remember breathe through the pain." the teacher told them.
"Breathe through the pain." Honey repeated.
"Dads while your wives go through this give them support, affection, and encouragement."
Zeke comfortably put his hands on Honey's shoulders.
"Just continue this process during the course of your labor."
Honey raised her hand.
"Yes, Mrs. Shaw?"
"I was just wondering, how long does labor normally last?" Honey wondered.
"It's different for every woman, but the average labor time is about eight hours."
"Eight hours, oh boy." Honey whispered.
"Don't worry, Honey. We'll get through this together." Zeke comforted.
Honey smiled, and put her hand on his.
That night, Honey was struggling to get to sleep. But there were several reasons why. Her baby kept kicking her, her large belly prevented her from getting comfortable, and she was nervous about the next month.
She quietly got up, and went to the baby's room. She sat in the rocking chair, gently rocking herself trying to calm her nerves. She then noticed the clear night sky filled with twinkling stars. Honey remembered when she was a kid, her parents would tell her that if she was ever scared or nervous at nice, look up at the stars.
The stars were beautiful and sparkled in the night sky, for some reason it would give her a sense of peace and hope. And looking at the stars right then, did the trick. The baby had calmed down, and so she got up, and went back to bed.
