Author Comment: I want to share a little bit more of the plans for this story. One of the details is that this is the first of the duology of Spyro journey.
You can consider this book Spyro childhood journey as you will see him grow up as the Arcs advanced. It will end the day Spyro becomes an adult. This story will also give a few questions about the world and about the Forbidden Artifacts. They will become more important as it goes on.
The second book is the journey of Spyro as an adult. He will already have a lot of luggage when it comes to life experience from his childhood. He would go on a big adventure where no dragons ever flew in their life.
After saving a few eggs in the portal, Spyro came out of it from where he started his journey to this unknown realm. His mind still came back to the red dragon they left behind. He looked at the location where he fought Flame.
The youngling wondered how that dragon lived there when all the others and himself lived in Dragon's Realm.
Sparx came by his side and Zoe followed the dragonfly outside of the portal.
"We are back here Spyro. What should we do now?" the fairy asked.
"We should search for other portals and eggs. They might be everywhere in the realm," he shook his head, "And maybe we can find those who tried to save the eggs. They might help us find them," he suggested.
His companion buzzed that it was a good idea. They should move on. The other dragon might come back to his senses and attacked them again.
The purple dragon still felt a hint of pain from his battle against the red dragon, "Right," he didn't want another fight with Flame that soon.
They continued to explore Sunrise Spring. They walked on the green field and searched for anything standing out.
The purple dragon sniffed the air and said, "I smell something… like a few eggs," he followed the scent. It wasn't long before he found a spot with two eggs.
The group looked at it. It wasn't that hard to figure out who took those.
"That Flame must have been collecting them before he saw you Spyro," Zoe said what they were thinking.
The dragon and his dragonfly agreed. Sparx asked if it was a good idea to teleport them to safety. It might antagonise the red dragon even more.
The fairy thought about it and replied, "Let's just come back later. Maybe some of the habitants can give some sense to him. Still," she used her wand and casted a spell, "If anyone is taking the eggs elsewhere, I will know about it. It's best to be aware of its location."
After it was done, they continued their quest to save the eggs.
Chapter 29: Sheila, The Prisoner
Spyro looked around and wondered, "We have beaten a few Rhynocs and other bad guys, but I don't see that many here. They are either too scare to fight us or they are bad at it."
"I don't know. Still, compare to the other portal, this one seems pretty far from the big castle. It might be because the Sorceress is far from here," she replied.
"And we still know nothing of what they wanted my siblings," he grumbled.
Sparx guested that it might not be that important. It might be just a lie for something sinister.
The purple dragon didn't want to think of what that sinister plan might be. He gulped and replied, "We will stop this. That bad guy is even badder than Gnastic Gnorc and Ripto."
"Badder?" Zoe asked.
The dragon fly replied that it wasn't necessary to ask.
"Hey. There is someone there," Spyro pointed at a cage with a habitant there. He rushed with his two companions.
They stopped when they saw what creature was in the cage. It was a kangaroo female with pale brown fur, red hair in pig-tail, green eyes, and two long ears. She wore a khaki safari shirt, a belt and backpack.
She was looking down and sighed as if all hope was lost for her.
"Hey there," Spyro said to get her attention.
The kangaroo looked at him for a few seconds. She tried to clean her eyes and looked at him again, "A… You're a dragon?" she asked uncertain.
"Of course," he pouted.
Zoe replied, "He is a dragon. We came here with him to save his siblings."
She looked at the fairy and the dragonfly, "A… A dragonfly…" she was pensive for a few seconds.
"Hello?" the purple dragon tried getting her attention once again.
"Oh. Sorry. Sorry. I was a little too much in my mind. I wasn't expecting a young dragon to show up here and saying that. You also have a dragonfly… We don't see them around here anymore," she commented sadly and curiously.
Sparx buzzed about his kind, giving little hints that they now lived in the Beast Makers realm.
"Beast… maker?" she asked.
"Yeah. A group of my dad dragons. I got so many of them," Spyro pouted, but gently smiled as he thought about them. He knew they were surely worried for him. It wasn't his fault this time. It wasn't for the adventure he went in the hole, but because he was the only one who could save his siblings.
"More dragons… You aren't all gone," she asked with hope.
"Nope," the purple dragon replied.
"And we have to save the eggs and bring them back home. If not, then it might eventually come," Zoe told her.
"I already saved Ten," Spyro proudly declared as he raised his chest.
"Ten…" she whispered, "He would be so happy about it."
"By the way, my name is Spyro. The fairy is Zoe and my best friend is Sparx."
"I'm Sheila."
Sparx asked why she was in a cage.
"That… Well. I've been arrested because I was participating in a fight to prevent them for bringing the eggs to the Sorceress," she replied.
"You're one of those who save my siblings. Thank you," he put his front paws on the cage.
"Yeah… I didn't end up that well. I got help from a few friends, my son and more helped us. They came from another realm. They even brought up one of their few mages. Still, that mage is hurt and hides somewhere with those who hasn't been captured," she sighed as she sat on the cage, "I wish we were successful."
"They didn't get the eggs and I managed to save some already," Spyro protested.
"He's right. You saved them. We will find them all," Zoe told her.
Sparx nodded, but pointed out that there might be something else they should do. She was in a cage and it shouldn't be a good sign.
"Yeah. We will get you out. No matter what spell's on it, we will break it," the purple dragon smiled. He was about to open the cage when someone said.
"Not so fast…" the voice stopped for a few seconds before letting out a yelp and saying loudly, "Spyro?"
Someone approached the group. It was a humanoid bear with a black nose. He wore a monocle on his right eye, a black suit with a white vest under it. He held a money bag with a green gem painted on it.
The dragon recognised him, "Moneybags? What are you doing here?" he grunted.
"You again," he quietly complained before he regained composure, "You see. Our little encounters on Avalar didn't end up well when you stole the gems-"
"You gave it back," the youngling corrected him, even if it wasn't really what happened.
"Whatever. Because of you, my business was in great trouble and I was losing more and more gems. With the peace you brought back, it killed the business. Especially since you got the gems back. I found another way. I made a deal with the Sorceress. I work for her for a nice amount of gems."
"Anyway, I'm getting her out," the purple dragon concluded.
Sparx frowned at the humanoid bear.
"As I said, not so fast. This is a magic cage. You can't just break up on your own and-" he stopped when the dragon tried to break it with his tail. He chuckled as the dragon whined, "You are only going to hurt yourself."
"Damn you. I'll get her out of here," Spyro declared.
"Is there a way to get her out of here?" Zoe asked as she waved her wand in front of him, a silent warning of what might come.
"If you want to get her out of here, I can accept to have 'accidentally' let her go because the magic cage malfunctioned…" he shook his bag, "A small fee. Like 300 gems."
The youngling grumbled at the price he had to pay to free her.
"You better hurry up. She has been sentenced to death in a few days. Her life is on the line you know."
The purple dragon lightly jumped after learning that. He looked at his friend and the fairy and frowned, "And you are going to let her die if I don't give gems to you!"
"It is only my job Spyro. We all need to make money to live you know," he showed his bag and shook it.
"It's okay Spyro. I'll find another way," Sheila told him.
Spyro gave up trying to negotiate. He had to help her. Not only because she tried to save his siblings, but also because it was horrible to let someone die when he could help. He was a hero. No, he corrected himself. It wasn't about being a hero. It was the good thing to do, "Fine. I got three hundred gems."
The youngling paid Moneybags. He filled the bag with gems.
"I don't know where you keep the gems, but I appreciate it. You are so kind, so generous and so helpful Spyro. You know, such thing might cost you one day you know."
The purple dragon wasn't certain if he already had to pay for that once, or was really close too when he helped Malefor.
"Nevertheless, I made a lot of gems thanks to you. Anyway, I've done something bad for the Sorceress you know," the humanoid bear broke the seal that imprisoned her in the cage, "I hope there is no hard feeling. I was just doing my job," he showed his hand to the ex-prisoner.
Sheila stretched her legs and felt for a few seconds her freedom to reply, "No hard feelings," she replied, just before kicking him with her legs and sending him far away.
The humanoid bear went far, but suddenly stopped and just dropped on the ground in the most unnatural way possible.
"Nice kick," Spyro smiled.
"That was nothing. Anyway, I wasn't expecting another dragon to be here," the kangaroo commented.
"Another dragon? You mean that Flame guy?" he asked.
"Yeah. I found the egg in the hands of one of those Rhynocs and I beat that guy. I just knew they had something bad for it. Then, he came out of the egg. I thought he was the last dragon, so I decided to raise him."
"You're his mom," the fairy asked. She got a positive nod.
"Flame. He attacked us not that long ago. He thought I was a fake dragon made by the Sorceress," the purple dragon replied.
"He thought what?" Sheila thought about it and supposed, "Maybe it's because I was certain he was the last dragon. You know. There use to be many dragons who lived here and rule over this realm, but then poof, they were all gone."
"W-what? Dragons used to live here?" the child asked in disbelief.
Sparx wanted to know more about it.
"I don't know why you dragons disappeared, but then the magic of this world seemed to go away with your kind. It used to have flying ships, singing forest, etc," as she gave a few more examples.
"Why did we left? We can't just go away like that," the youngling asked.
Sheila replied, "I have been searching for answers with Flame. We know that dragons disappeared a thousand of years ago and since then it was the Sorceress who rule this realm. It was once called the Dragon Kingdom, but now it is the Sorceress Kingdom."
"She… She stole it from us," Spyro frowned at the injustice that his kind went through.
"It seems to be that. There used to be a lot of architectures and many other things that dragons made, but it has been destroyed," Sheila went on with it.
Sparx asked about Flame.
"Oh yeah. Flame might believe you are a creation of the Sorceress. She is powerful and could do something like that with her magic, but I know she wouldn't. She hates dragons too much to even do something like that," the kangaroo replied.
"Did we do something bad?" the child asked.
"I don't know. There is little of the past," she apologised. She thought about it and asked, "Back off for a second. Where is Flame?"
"We fought and we left him unconscious. He is hidden by a magic spell," the child replied.
"I hid him among a tree. Unless he moves out of it, no one would find him. I'm sure they don't except me to cast a spell like that," Zoe replied.
"We have to find him first. I need to be sure he's okay. Then, I will show you some of my allies who helped to save your eggs. Some of them get away from this and went to hide somewhere," Sheila suggested.
"What if Flame attack me again?"
"I'll explain everything Spyro. Don't worry. He will believe me. I raised him for a long time," she replied.
"Let's go," the purple dragon turned around and guided her.
