It's the two of them in the room with one other doctor and David. Rachel and Kurt were outside in the waiting room, waiting for them. Santana takes hold of David's hand while Brittany takes hold of his other hand. They are in an operating room. David was a donor. The doctor had already explained what was going to happen and that David would feel no pain. Santana could tell that this brought comfort to Brittany as it had for her as well. Soon after, the doctor and the nurses would move quickly to save his organs for donation.

"It's time," the doctor says.

Santana nods. Brittany moves to join her side to make room for the doctors and stands next to her. They are closer to the door. To her surprise, Brittany takes her hand and squeezes it, prompting her to look over at the blond. Tears are in her eyes, too.

A minute passes before the doctor nods his head at them. It's the signal for them to leave the room.

They walk out with Brittany still holding her hand, her head on her shoulder, and the other wrapped around her back.

There's a flutter in her stomach, and for a moment, Santana thinks it's the smell of the operation room that is going to make her vomit. Still, as she gets dizzy, she soon realizes something is seriously wrong.

She feels herself falling, but Brittany holds her up. She shakes her head to try to regain her composure.

"San, are you okay?" She hears before she faints.

This was not supposed to happen. Santana fainting was not in the plans. It instantly made Brittany worry. As soon as Santana fainted, she got the attention of the first nurse she saw. The nurse had checked for breathing and instructed Brittany to maintain Santana's legs elevated. The nurse was due to be back as she quickly had gone to fetch some water and a wheelchair.

After a few minutes, she sighs in relief when Santana stirs. Santana looks confused and disoriented.

"You had me really scared for a moment. How are you feeling?" Brittany asked with a soft, concerned voice as she still kept her legs elevated.

"What happened?" Santana asked, still a bit dazed and confused.

"You fainted," Brittany says, "A nurse checked on you. She will be coming back with a wheelchair and some water. "

It's not too long a wait before a nurse comes with a wheelchair and some water.

Brittany assists the nurse in getting her into a wheelchair. She also opens the water and hands it to her.

She watches with careful eyes as the nurse checks her eyes, her heartbeat and asks Santana some questions. The nurse nods as she listens. Brittany follows her when the nurse begins to roll Santana down the hall.

She stops eavesdropping as she digs for her phone. She knows Quinn and Santana haven't talked for weeks, but Quinn would be furious with the both of them if neither called to let her know what had happened.

She quickly sends a text to Quinn, letting her know what happened.

"I see. I think I know what's going on. I am going to make an appointment for you. It should take about 30 minutes. Is that okay?"

She watches as a confused Santana nods nonetheless before Santana gets rolled, and Kurt stands when they notice her. She can tell they are concerned for her. Brittany hates hospitals. These past few months, this has really been a roller coaster ride. She is itching to get out of here and into her bed, but the universe clearly has other plans.

"Santana fainted," she tells them.

Kurt and Rachel are shocked.

Before they can even ask questions, she responds, "She's getting checked by a doctor. She's being taken over there now. The nurse said it isn't anything to worry about, but she wants her to get checked. "

Brittany wants to check on Santana, but she notices Quinn, and she calls her over. She then sees Puck being guided by Quinn. She has questions, but those will have to wait as Quinn lets go of Puck's hand to hug her.

"I am so sorry about what happened to your dad. I wanted to be here I just-"

"It's okay," Brittany says as she hugs her, "I am glad you're here. Santana is getting checked. I just knew she would want to see you."

Quinn smiles at her as she pulls away.

"I've missed her too," Quinn says.

Brittany smiles sadly. They both know Santana missed Quinn, too.

Santana waits patiently as she drinks her water for the test results to come in. The doctor checked on her and did not see anything that could be wrong with her. Still, she did have Santana take a urinary test. She also gave blood samples to check to see any underlying issues the doctor could not see.

There is a knock on the door, followed by a quick announcement that the doctor was coming in. Santana puts the lid on her water and sets it aside.

"Santana, I have your test results back. There are some things to discuss, but first, congratulations!"

Santana is unsure of what the doctor is talking about. Fainting is something to worry about not being congratulated about.

"Judging by your face, I can tell that this is news for you. I have to say I'm shocked that you didn't know."

"Didn't know what?" Santana asked, still confused.

"That you're about nine weeks pregnant." There was a smile on the doctor's face.

"Wh...what?" Santana's throat runs dry.

Sensing that this is not the news her patient was expecting, the doctor's smile fades. "You are about nine weeks pregnant. People usually come in here when they begin to show the symptoms. For some reason, you didn't."

Santana begins to question if this is a fragment of her imagination.

"I-I'm sorry, I am not sure I heard you correctly. D-Did you say I am 9 weeks pregnant?"

Santana's stomach drops when the doctor nods.

"I-I thought I had the stomach flu."

"What about your missed period?"

"I am on birth control."

" You must have missed a dose. It could have happened when you were sick. One missed dose is all it takes. Since you are small, you're barely showing too."

Santana's hands find their way to her belly. It was a little bigger, she had noticed but figured the weight gain was due to her birth control. She hadn't kept up with her diet and exercise regime with everything else going on.

She tries to remember any time she missed it, but nothing comes to mind. She had taken it religiously for some long she can't even remember forgetting it.

"Is that why I fainted?" She asked quietly.

"You haven't been taking her prenatal vitamins. You also have been eating right. You need to drink more liquids. You should start taking them today. We also haven't done an ultrasound for the baby. It's a bit overdue. However, do you want me to go over your options?"

Santana knows that when the doctor mentioned options, the doctor means adoption and abortions. She instantly shakes her head, no. She wasn't ready, and the pregnancy was not planned, but adoption and abortion are not something she wants to do.

"Very well. Lay down and expose your stomach."

She lays in the bed and exposes her belly. The doctor squirts some gel into her abdomen. It's cold and causes Santana to get goosebumps. It tickles a bit, and her heart is beating fast.

"Okay. Let's take a look at this baby," says the doctor as she presses the transducer probe to Santana's flesh and moves it around with slight pressure.

Santana holds her breath as she watches the monitor. It's black with white and gray. She doesn't know what to look for, but she hears it. The new sound is one she's never heard of before. It was a quick but strong, whooshing sound. She's speechless.

"It's pretty amazing, isn't it," The doctor says as she points at the black and gray monitor. "I am happy to say that things look good. You definitely aren't eating enough. There are two heartbeats. You're having twins. Their heartbeats sound healthy."

Shocked, Santana nods when the doctor asks her if she gets pictures printed. On auto-drive, she thanks the doctor, gets dressed, schedules her next appointment in three weeks to find out the sex of the babies, and makes her way to the waiting room. Her entire world feels upside down. She is still somewhat out of it when she finally sees everyone. Her eyes naturally notice Brittany first, and her heart sinks to her stomach again. She has no idea how she is going to tell Brittany about the pregnancy. The timing for everything is absolutely fucked. She doesn't even know if she and Brittany have a shot at getting back together? She wonders if they are officially broken up? There are so many questions about children, Brittany, and the future that she feels like she will vomit again. Her stops stop when she notices Quinn and Puck.

"Brittany texted me," Quinn answers before she gets a chance to ask her what she's doing here.

Santana hugs her, realizing it's been too long since she'd seen her best friend. "I am so happy to see you," Santana says as she hugs her.

"I am happy, too." Quinn offers with a smile. "I have so much to tell you."

Santana realizes she does, too, and nods, unable to speak.

The group hugs each other. Rachel, Kurt, Quinn, and Puck offer their condolences to her and Brittany. As they walk together down to the exit, the silence is comforting. Before they part, Santana informs them of the funeral arrangements. When it is just her and Brittany, she starts panicking again. How will she tell Brittany? When will she tell her? More and more questions plaque her mind.

Neither of them says a word as they make their way to Santana's car. They had decided to drive to the hospital, thinking one of them would not be in the best condition to drive. As sad as everything was, they knew they did right by David and let him go.

They get in the car and sit in silence. Santana lets her car heat up, but soon the two have been sitting in the car for 20 minutes letting everything sink in. Their affair. David's accident. David's death.

On top of that, Santana also had a newly discovered surprise pregnancy. She turns on the car, wanting nothing more than to go home and crawl into a bed to cry. Today has been such a long day. The whole drive home is quiet. It's as if neither of them wants to be the one to break the silence.

As she parks her car, she is still racking her brain, figuring out what happened. Santana tries to remember if she was sick and can't recall being sick except-

"Shit,"

Brittany looks at her, unsure of what she is talking about.

"I got so drunk and was hungover," Santana says as she recalls what led to her missed dosage.

"I took the pill in the morning. I threw up that morning."

Everything comes crashing down on her, and she brings her hands to her face and starts sobbing.

"I am so fucking stupid."

"Oh," she hears Brittany say shakily, which lets her know Brittany has put the puzzle pieces together.

Neither has made a move to get out of the car. Santana is still crying. Brittany is in shock. She's conflicted about how she should feel.

"I've been sleeping with you all this time, behind his back."

She breathes deeply and releases it to calm her emotions, but it is to no avail.

"He was so in love with you."

Brittany recalls a conversation with her dad that they had in the first weeks she had arrived. Tears fall from her eyes, and she wipes them.

"When he took me to school, he once told me he was so happy that the two of us were getting along. He was over the moon to be trying for a baby with you. He wanted a little brother or sister for me. Another addition to the Pierce clan."

She chuckled through her tears, "He wanted to give me the family I always wanted. One that stuck together no matter what and loved each other unconditionally."

Coming from a torn family because of divorce, it was still what Brittany wanted the most. She is torn between being elated and being sad about Santana's pregnancy because there is a chance that Santana's baby could be hers. Still, there is also a chance that the baby is her dad's. More tears fell down her face. What if Santana is pregnant with her half-siblings? What if the baby was hers? Was she ready for that kind of responsibility? Did Santana even want to keep the baby?

"God, I am such a terrible person," she admits guiltily at the last thought that runs through her head and exits the car and makes her way to the elevator.

Santana sits there, taking in Brittany's words, and reflects on them. If Brittany was a terrible person, then what was she? She married a man for his money, lied to him about birth control, stepped outside the marriage numerous times, and had an affair with his daughter. Despite it all, she still wanted to be with Brittany everything.

Santana wipes her tears and soon exits the car and heads towards the elevator. She starts to think of how to tell Brittany that she is having twins and Brittany's. Brittany is young and realizes that Brittany might not want to have children, so she starts going over her options.

When she enters the house, Brittany is sitting in the living room facing the off television. Santana figures Brittany is still processing everything. She decides to tell Brittany everything so that she can process it all at once. There is not going to be a perfect time to deliver the news. Now is as good a time as any. She walks around the sectional and makes her way so she can sit next to Brittany.

She takes her hands and folds them on her lap.

She opens her mouth to speak but quickly closes it and swallows the lump in her throat.

She turns to look at Brittany. The news is so bittersweet. This isn't what she had pictured for herself, but being here now, while looking at Brittany, there isn't anyone else in the world she would want to have kids with, even if they weren't planned.

Unlike how her mother and father loved her, she knew that she loved the growing children inside of her unconditionally.

"There's two of them," she says with a whisper, "Twins," she clarifies.

Santana watches as a sad smile forms on Brittany's face before she turns to look back at her. The way her stomach flutters, when she reveals that there are two makes her believe a little more that she will do everything to love them no matter what.

"My father was a twin. My uncle passed when he was a baby. Dad always told me about him."

"Now or never," Santana whispers in her head, urging herself to just be out with it.

"They're yours, Britt. The babies are yours. Your father and I-" She pushed and thought for a second. "We didn't-" She stops again.

Every interaction with her and the events leading to this moment replaying in her head. She's unsure how to speak her mind.

"Britt-," Santana pauses to sniff her nose. "Britt, you have to understand that I really did not want children. I am a product of how I was raised. I didn't want to risk them turning out like me. I started taking birth control immediately. He had been working so much the past few months. It was just you the last few weeks before the accident. They were conceived around your birthday."

Santana stops talking and allows the truth to set in. Brittany looks away from her. She is scared all over again. She leaves the part out where she plans to raise their children alone if she has to. Santana bites her lower lip and sniffs her nose again. The truth is out, and she's hopeful. She believes in their love and believes it is strong enough to overcome anything.

She's never loved anyone this much. It still scares her how much she wants someone, and for the past hour, how much she wants to raise a family with Brittany.

All Brittany focuses on is the part where Santana told her she didn't want to have kids because all she can hear is how her mind and soul tell her that that's changed. She couldn't believe that someone wanted to have her children. For a moment, all she wants to do is kiss Santana with pride because it's Santana that wants to have her children. Santana, the woman she loves, has loved, and will always love, changed for her entirely. She wants to scream and laugh and smile at the news, but she doesn't. She doesn't because this is what her father wanted. This is what he was trying to get in the last year of his life, and he never got it.

"Please," she hears Santana say, "please say something."

And Brittany does. She wants to say so many things, but her dad is in the back of her mind.

She closes her eyes and lets new tears fall from her face. Her lip trembles like the small happiness that underlays in her heart with the sadness she feels in her body.

She loves Santana. Santana makes her happy. This news makes her happy, too.

She brings her arm to her eyes and wipes her tears with the sleeve of her hoodie. Her other hand can feel the letter in her pocket. Her heart stops. She's read it at least a hundred times. She knows it by heart.

"Be happy. Find what brings you happiness, and never let it go. Live life to the fullest, love wholeheartedly, and always be open to forgiveness."

Her father's letter is the silver lining because his words are the light she needs in this period of darkness.

Brittany looks at Santana. She is still unsure what to say or how to feel, but her heart knows what she wants. She wipes away the tears that had fallen from Santana's beautiful face. She rests her forehead on Santana's and looks deep into her eyes before joining their lips in a soft, sweet kiss. There is no rushing it or trying to dominate the others, but instead, they both enjoy the touch of their lips on each other again.

They break away. Brittany keeps her close. Her eyes are closed as she breathes the same air. She decides to speak the only words that come to mind. There's no need to over complicate things. Life is too short for all of that. She knows that and firmly believes it. Her thumbs caress the sides of Santana's face.

"I love you. I have always loved you. I know that I will always love you."

"I love you, too," She hears Santana say softly with relief before she feels soft full lips on her thin ones.

Santana pulls away, causing Brittany to open her eyes. Blue eyes meet brown ones as Santana takes hold of one of Brittany's hand and places it on her stomach. She can't fight the smile that forms on her face as Santana joins their foreheads anew before placing one hand on top of hers. Her eyes begin to water again, but they are happy tears for the first time in weeks. She knows that for the first time in weeks, Santana's tears are happy, too. Her thumb begins to caress the warm stomach beneath her hand. After a moment of basking in and letting everything sink in, she speaks with a soft voice.

"This changes everything. You and these babies are my family. You're all I have left."

Author's Note: I had most of this chapter written from its original one short chapter addition. Some of you wondered if the ending would have been the same had David committed suicide. Yes, they would have. The purpose of the letter David left to Brittany, their love, and the desire to have the family they never had (Brittany's parents were divorced, and Santana's disowned her and were miserable together) was going to drive them to stay in each other's lives. The plan has always been to allow Brittana to heal together.

I changed it because, while we (me and you) would know David killed himself (suicide by crashing on purpose), Brittana would not. In the story, no one would know it was suicide. Some beta readers/people I used as a soundboard suggested I keep David alive, but I did not want to change the story too much. Again, my plan was always to have him die.

With that said, this chapter and the ones that will follow would have remained the same. The only thing that I really changed in the story (apart from dragging it from its original 5 parts (as this was originally a 5 part one-shot)), was the way David died.

Up next: The funeral, Quinntana catch up, and we find out the sex of the babies:)
