Chapter 40

AN: I really hope you like this chapter. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, let me know what you think.

A week have passed since Addison and Derek put in a offer on their dream house. Due to the fact that the current owners are out of the country they know it might be a little while before they find out if their offer has been accepted, and because of that they are doing their best not to think about it.

It's early morning and Addison, Derek, Amelia Teddy, and Zola are having breakfast together at their house.

"So, todays the day right; twelve-week scan?" Teddy asks.

"Yeah," Addison confirms.

"How are you feeling?" Amelia asks.

"Nervous, but excited," Addison admits. "I'm scared of what we're going to see on the ultrasound," Addison admits.

"Me too," Derek admits. "But I'm glad we're at the end of the first trimester," Derek says as he knows it takes away a lot of the risks.

"Oh my god, you are. Does that mean you're going to start to tell people who don't know?" Amelia asks curious.

"Yes," Addison confirms. "After the scan I'm going to video call Naomi, and then I want to tell Bailey, then everyone else," Addison explains, as it is incredibly important to her that Naomi and Bailey know first, before anyone else, though she also knows that Bailey has suspected since the beginning that she is pregnant.

"I know," Derek says, as he and Addison have talked about it.

"As Chief Owen will need to know," Teddy reminds Addison and Derek.

"We know. We'll tell him today too," Derek says, as that is something else he and Addison have talked about, and once he speaks the group of four adults and one baby continue to have breakfast together.

A little while later Addison, Derek, Amelia, Teddy and Zola have travelled to the hospital and having taken Zola to day care Addison and Derek are once again waiting in an exam room for Doctor Ryan who is going to give them their twelve-week ultrasound. Just like the past ultrasounds Amelia, Teddy, Arizona, Mark, and Callie are waiting outside; all desperately hoping things go well.

Just like usual Doctor Ryan has started the exam by checking Addison's blood work and vitals.

"Addison, your blood pressure is a little high; do you feel okay?" Doctor Ryan asks, a hint of concern in her voice.

"I'm just nervous about what the ultrasound is going to show," Addison admits, as Derek squeezes her hand.

"Okay, then I need you to take a few deep breaths and try and relax for me," Doctor Ryan requests, and Addison does as instruct. "Okay, now we'll get started," Doctor Ryan says, and she begins the ultrasound as Addison and Derek watch nervously.

Twenty minutes after Addison and Derek entered the exam room their Seattle Family is still waiting outside as Doctor Ryan has already left the fivesome know that it isn't long before Addison and Derek walk out, and they are all worried about what Addison and Derek are going to tell them.

Finally, after what feels like a really long time, the door to the exam room opens and both Addison and Derek walk out.

"How'd it go? How are the Sheplets?" Amelia asks, desperate to know.

"My blood pressure is a little high, and Baby C is still measuring smaller than babies A and B, but other than that, everything is good, everyone is healthy," Addison explains. "That is good considering how extremely high risk this pregnancy is," Addison explains, and despite her words it is clear she is worried.

"It's really good, Addison," Arizona assures her friend, as Amelia hugs her sister.

"So, you made it, twelve weeks with triplets, congratulations," Callie says, as she knows that is a big deal considering everything that is against Addison, before hugging Addison once she break apart from Amelia.

"Thank you," Addison says, returning the hug.

"Congrats Man," Mark says, hugging his best friend and once Callie breaks apart from Addison Teddy hugs her and then Arizona does.

"So, are you going to tell people now, today?" Teddy asks curious.

"Yeah," Addison confirms, as she and Derek exchange looks.

"Naomi first, then Bailey, then Owen, then other people," Derek explains, and as he does his pager goes off. "The pit needs a Neuro consult," Derek reads.

"I can take it if you want," Amelia offers.

"Thanks Amy," Derek says.

"You owe me," Amelia says before walking away.

"I've got a patient too, but I'm really glad everything is good," Teddy says, before walking away.

"Same," Callie, Arizona, and Mark say.

"Let's go call Naomi," Addison says and the two of them head towards the attendings lounge together.

A little while later Addison and Derek are alone in the Attendings lounge, sitting in front of a computer, getting ready to call Naomi.

"Are you ready?" Derek asks, as he reaches out and puts his hand on Addison's stomach.

"I think so," Addison admits, sounding nervous. "There's still so much that could go wrong," Addison admits, without moving to make the call.

"I know," Derek admits. "Addie I know you're terrified, I'm terrified too, but the Sheplets have made it to twelve weeks; that's big," Derek reminds Addison. "We're likely going to be terrified about all our kids for the rest of our lives, but we still need to celebrate the good, celebrate their achievements, and this is an achievement," Derek explains.

"That's true," Addison says and the two of them kiss.

"Let's call Nai, she's going to be so happy," Derek says, believing that, and hoping that if Naomi is positive then Addison will let herself be happier.

"I hope so," Addison responds, as she and Derek turn to face the computer, and after taking a deep breath Addison reaches over and presses the buttons to videocall Naomi.

After a few rings Naomi, who is in her office in New York, answers the call.

"Hey Addie, Derek," Naomi greats.

"Hey Nai," Addison says.

"How's Zola?" Naomi asks, curious.

"Good, she's amazing," Derek says, with a grin, clearly proud of his daughter.

"How's Maya, Oliva and Betsy?" Addison asks curious.

"They're all good," Naomi says, grinning. "Betsy has settled into her new school, Maya is enjoying Columbia. Things are good," Naomi explains.

"That's great," Addison says her.

"Is there a reason you called?" Naomi asks curious.

"Yeah, we have news," Derek admits. "Some good news," Derek reveals, and Naomi looks interested.

"I'm pregnant," Addison reveals. "With Triplets," Addison explains.

"Oh my god, congratulations," Naomi says, sounding amazed. "That's incredible," Naomi says, clearly feeling thrilled for her friend. "How far along are you? How's everything going?" Naomi asks.

"I'm twelve weeks today," Addison reveals. "One of the triplets is measuring a little smaller but everything else is healthy," Addison admits, not mentioning her high blood pressure.

"Addie, that's great," Naomi says, grinning as she knows how incredible this is, and how much it will mean to Addison and Derek.

"Yeah, it is," Addison says as she rests her hand on her stomach.

"Doctor Bennett they're ready for you," A voice, which Derek and Addison hear, says.

"I really have to go, but I'll call back later," Naomi assures her friends. "I love you both, I'm so happy for you," Naomi says.

"Thank you Naomi," Addison says, and once she says that Naomi ends the call.

"She took that well," Derek says, looking relieved.

"Yeah, she did," Addison says, sounding relieved, as she starts to send a message on her phone.

"Who you texting?" Derek asks curious.

"Miranda," Addison answers.

"You're telling her by text?" Derek asks surprised, as that sounds very unlike Addison.

"No, I'm just asking her to come here if she's free," Addison explains, and Derek nods.

"I know you didn't want to talk about until you were further along, but we've made it to twelve weeks, and we should start talking about preparing for the Sheplets," Derek tells Addison.

"It's still too early," Addison says.

"Addie," Derek says, reaching over and running his hand through her hair as a way to help Addison to relax, and calm down a bit.

"When we know about the Lake House," Addison says. "When we know if we've gotten our dream home we can start planning, and making decisions," Addison tells Derek and after knowing her for so many years Derek knows that this isn't the right time to push Addison on this.

"Okay," Derek responds, and he leans forward and places a gentle kiss on Addison's head.

After Derek kisses Addison's head, the two of them drift into silence as they sit together. For a few moments Addison and Derek sit in a comfortable silence until the door to the Attendings lounge open and Bailey walk in.

"I have about two minutes, what's going on?" Bailey asks, the second she walks in.

"We have news, good news," Derek says, still feeling a little intimidated by Bailey after all the years of knowing her and even though he knows that Bailey is one of Addison's closest friend. As Derek speaks Addison stands up.

"Miranda, I know you've been suspecting this, but I want to officially tell you. I'm pregnant," Addison reveals. "With triplets," Addison says, and the second she finishes speaking Bailey grins.

"Addison Montgomery, I am so happy for you," Bailey says, before hugging her friend.

"I'm only twelve weeks, and there is still a lot that could go wrong…" Addison starts to say.

"No, don't do that," Bailey says, breaking apart from her friend slightly. "Addison you have a healthy, beautiful, little girl, and now you're pregnant. This is everything you've ever wanted, you can enjoy it without fearing for the worse," Bailey says, before hugging her friend once more.

"Thank you Miranda," Bailey says, feeling incredible grateful for her friend.

"And you," Bailey says to Derek once she has broken apart from Addison. "It took me a long time to like you, don't make me regret it," Bailey says, clearly giving a warning.

"Understood," Derek responds.

"I need to get to Surgery, but I'm really happy for you both," Bailey says, before leaving.

"Now Hunt," Derek says.

"Now Hunt," Addison confirms, and the two of the leave the Attendings lounge.

A couple of minutes later Addison and Derek are walking towards the ER when Teddy and Amelia walk up to them.

"How'd Naomi take it?" Amelia asks curious.

"Really well," Addison responds.

"Are you going to tell Hunt now?" Teddy asks curious.

"Yeah," Derek confirms. "What was the consult?" Derek asks, looking at his sister.

"Young woman with neuro symptoms, I'm running scans," Amelia explains, and it is clear from Amelia's tone of voice that it is interesting symptoms. "You know when I left Owen was busy, he might not be able to step away," Amelia explains.

"We're just going to tell him," Addison explains. "It will also save us from telling everyone else in the hospital," Addison explains, as that's what she and Derek decided on the walk from the Attendings lounge.

"That'll work," Teddy says, sounding amused, and as they enter the ER Derek and Addison walk in while Teddy and Amelia head to the surgical floor.

Walking into the ER Addison and Derek see Owen over by the nurses station and so they both walk over to him.

"Hunt," Derek says, and Owen turns around. "Can we talk to you?"

"Can it be done in thirty seconds because that's how long we've got before an Ambulance gets here," Owen explains as April, Jackson, and Alex all start to get into trauma gowns, and all three of them are close enough to hear what Addison, Derek and Owen talk about.

"It definitely can," Addison comments, after exchanging looks with Derek. "I'm twelve weeks pregnant with Triplets," Addison reveals, and out of the corner of her eye she sees the residences exchange shocked looks. "I intend to work as long possible but as the Pregnancy progresses that might be more difficult," Addison explains.

"Wow, that's, wow, congratulations," Owen says, sounding really shocked, and not sure what to say.

"Once the Sheplets are born I will be joining Addie on leave for a while because it will be a big adjustment," Derek explains.

"Chief, ambulance is here!" Jackson yells.

"I'm really happy for you both, we can talk about the practical considerations later," Owen says, before hurrying away, and just as he does Addison's pager beeps.

"I've got to go," Addison says, after checking what her pager says.

"I'll see you later," Derek says, before kissing Addison's cheek, and once he does Addison hurries away to answer the page.

A few hours after Addison and Derek told Owen about Addison's pregnancy, which has caused the news to travel all around the hospital, it is lunch time and the two of them are walking towards the table in the cafeteria where Mark, Callie, Arizona, Teddy, Amelia, Bailey and Ben are sitting eating lunch together.

"I have to work late tonight," Derek says as they walk. "Are you able to get Zola or do we need to ask Amy or Teddy?" Derek asks curious, as he and Addison try to make it so Zola isn't at Day Care too late as they don't want her to spend too many late nights there. They like to save the late nights for when it is unavoidable.

"I can," Addison reveals, as they get to the table.

"Did you two really tell Hunt about the Sheplets in front of three residences and multiple nurses?" Callie asks curious.

"Sheplets?" Bailey asks.

"Amy's name for the Triplets, it's caught on," Derek explains.

"And yeah, we did," Addison confirms.

"Nice strategy, that's one way to get the news to whole entire hospital," Mark says, looking amused.

"I'm assuming that was the point," Arizona realises.

"Yep," Derek and Addison say together.

"Congratulations," Ben says, as he is the only one who hasn't said it yet.

"Thank you," Addison and Derek say together, and as they do the group proceed to have a very enjoyable lunch together. As they eat all the attendings notice various other people in the cafeteria looking at them, but they don't react to it.

Hours later, as Derek has to work, Addison, Amelia, and Teddy have travelled home from the hospital with Zola, having stopped to get dinner first which they are eating together in the living room.

"So, by now the entire hospital knows, how do you feel?" Amelia asks her sister.

"Good," Addison admits. "I'm still afraid of what's going to happen during this pregnancy, but telling Miranda, telling Naomi, and even the rest of the hospital knowing, makes it feel real," Addison admits, as she eats some food herself, and feeds Zola.

"That's because it is," Teddy says, taking a drink of her water, as Amelia finishes eating and so she casually leans/lays on Teddy. "Addie, you are twelve weeks. I know you're terrified, and I know this is your specialty so you know better than anyone anything that could happen, which means you also know how important reaching twelve weeks with triplets is; how good that is," Teddy says, as she, without even realising starts to run her hand through Amelia's hair.

"That's true," Addison admits, though she is scared to hope, as she notices what Teddy is doing and how comfortable Amelia is.

"Does that mean you're going to finally going to start preparing for the Sheplets? Are you actually going to start buying stuff?" Amelia asks curious as she knows Addison and Derek haven't brought a single thing yet for the Sheplets.

"Not yet," Addison says, shaking her head as she feeds Zola. "Once we know about the Lake House, I will," Addison explains.

"Well you know, Mom and the Sisters, they can do Math. They're going to start sending stuff," Amelia says, knowing that because she knows her family.

"I know," Addison says, smiling at Zola, as the trio continue to enjoy dinner together.

A couple of hours after Addison, Zola, Amelia and Teddy had dinner together Derek is finally leaving the hospital, as he gets in the elevator he waits for the doors to close when Meredith walks in.

"Hi," Meredith greats, and from the look on her face Derek knows she has heard about Addison.

"Hi," Derek responds.

"Addison's pregnant?" Meredith asks. "With triplets?" Meredith asks, a level of disbelief in her voice.

"Yeah," Derek says, with a grin. "Twelve weeks," Derek explains.

"Congratulations," Meredith responds, as even though it is hard for Meredith to do so she knows it is something that will mean a lot to Derek. "Are you happy, Derek?" Meredith asks, as even though it does seem like it she wants to make sure.

"Beyond happy," Derek answers, meaning every word, as the elevator doors open and he walks out, leaving Meredith, who realises things are completely, and forever, over, in the elevator.

A little while after he left the elevator Derek arrives home. As all the lights are off Derek assumes that everyone is in bed and so he makes his way into the house, and upstairs, as quietly as possible. Once he get upstairs Derek doesn't head to his and Addison's room, rather he heads to Zola's room.

As he doesn't want to wake up his daughter, he just wants to see her, Derek walks quietly over to her crib, and once he is standing at her crib Derek reaches down and gently rubs a finger down Zola's stomach.

"Hey Zo-Zo," Derek says, in a quiet whisper. "I'm really sorry I'm home so late," Derek admits. "Can I let you in on a secret? I don't like being home this late," Derek admits. "I would much rather be home with you, and your Mom, and Aunt Amy, and even Aunt Teddy," Derek reveals. "My works important, but it's not more important than you," Derek admits. "I'm going to do better, I'm never going to hurt your Mom again like I did before," Derek admits. "I'm going to do better Zo, for you, and your Mom, and when they're born your siblings. I'm going to make sure I am always around. I'm not going to spend too much time at work," Derek reveals, as he already plans on asking Amelia to take on more of his service, at least for a little while, so that he can be around more. "I love you so much Zo," Derek says, bending down and kissing her head.

Once he kisses Zola Derek tucks her in even more, and then he heads to his and Addison's room, leaving the door to Zola's room open a little as he goes. Once he gets to his bedroom Derek is sure that Addison is asleep and so he goes into the wardrobe to get changed and then he heads to bed. Once in bed Derek kisses Addison's cheek and puts his arms around her. Quiet quickly Derek falls asleep holding Addison.
