Shere Khan
Upon leaving the ruins, he tried to get that snake to speak up, but when he returned to where they had met, that worm was nowhere to be seen. Frustrated, he snarled, lashing out at the nearby tree. The great Khan had been fooled by an accursed snake.
But, the more he thought about it, the more something struck him.
The tower.
That grand tower that rose high above the ruins. He hadn't checked there. It was high up. Well defended. Monkeys used it as a temporary sanctuary when they were being chased.
As he went to get some water at the nearby watering hole, the more it made sense. Mowgli had to be there. His tracks ended outside of the temple, and as far as he knew, the man-cub hadn't been actively running around. They had to settle somewhere for the night.
Handling the insults thrown at him from the vultures with poise, Shere Khan drank his fill. Then turned his eyes to the ruins once more when daylight came.
