Silver Beast: Painful Memories
Inuyasha just reached the top of the stairs when he heard joyful laughter coming from the end of the hall. Curious as to what his niece and newly acquired girlfriend were up to he quietly walked down the hall and peaked around the doorframe. His amber eyes shimmered with amusement when he saw that Rin had dressed Kagome in one of her fancy tutus. In addition to the overly poofy skirt, she had a hot pink feather boa wrapped around her shoulders and a large yellow hat on her head. On Kagome's hands were lacy purple gloves and half a dozen plastic rings on her fingers. She looked adorable as she sipped on an empty cup of tea. The image, on top of the slurping sounds she made had both he and Rin grinning from ear to ear.
"Mmmm very tasty. Thank you." Kagome nodded as she set her tiny teacup on the saucer.
"Would you like some more?" Rin asked as she held up her tiny pink teapot.
"Sure!" Kagome giggled as she held out her cup to be filled with imaginary tea. "Thank you so much Rin!"
"You're welcome Kagome." Rin giggled just as she noticed her uncle watching them from the doorway. "Uncle Inuyasha! Do you want to join us?"
"No can do kiddo. I've got to take Kagome home." Inuyasha said as he motioned with his head for Kagome to come with him.
"Awe! Does she really have to go? We were having so much fun!" Rin pouted as Kagome took off her play clothes and set them in Rin's toy chest.
"I'll come play with you again soon." Kagome promised as she knelt down to pull the tiny wind pup into her arms. Knowing just the thing to cheer Rin up, she held up her pinkie and said, "Pinkie swear?"
"Pinkie swear." Rin giggled as she locked her little finger around Kagome's.
After saying her goodbye to Sesshomaru and Kagura, Kagome and Inuyasha slipped on their shoes and rode the elevator down to the garage. When they reached the bottom they straddled his bike and made their way down the road. It wasn't until they were halfway home that Inuyasha drove them off the beaten path. Sensing something was bothering him, Kagome held on tight and rested her chin on his shoulder for support. She could feel the tension in his muscles as they drove. Every once in a while he'd look over his shoulder as if checking to see if someone was following them. Not sensing anything dangerous nearby she remained quiet and let him focus on what he was doing. Whatever it was, it had spooked him and she needed to trust him to get them to safety. She didn't question him when he drove all over town. It was obvious he was trying to lose something so she just held on and enjoyed the ride.
It was almost an hour later that he pulled into a private park on the other side of town. Seeing he was still tense, she quickly got off the bike so he could hide it in the woods. Once he felt they were safe she took his hand and followed him deeper into the woods. Whatever was wrong they needed to hide for a while and stay away from people. It was only after a white police car drove up and down the dirt road looking for them that Kagome realized what was happening. They both held their breaths when the cop stopped at one point and got out of his car to look for them. Thankfully he never stepped far enough into the woods to find them or their bike. It took another ten minutes of them sitting quietly on a log for the cop to drive off. When the danger had finally passed they both sighed in relief and relaxed where they sat on the fallen log.
"What was that about?" Kagome asked as she tried to calm her racing heart.
"It's part of the reason I need to talk to you." Inuyasha sighed as he ran his clawless fingers through his black bangs. "The guy who attacked you the other night went to the police station and made a false report about a silver dog faced monster attacking you."
"What?!" Kagome yelled before quickly covering her mouth. "Sorry, he did what?"
"Kagura's theory is that the bastard flipped the story around in hopes of covering his ass." Inuyasha shrugged.
"So what does that have to do with us being chased right now?" Kagome asked.
"The cops who are running the case are the same humans that were hunting the woods earlier this morning." Inuyasha scoffed, making her eyes widen. "Apparently they believe I'm some cereal killing monster that's preying on helpless women."
"How on earth did they deduce that conclusion?" Kagome frowned. "Obviously I'm still alive so that kind of trumps their story."
"It has to do with something that happened two years ago…" Inuyasha sighed. "To someone very important to me."
"You don't have to tell me if you aren't ready." Kagome sympathized. "It's obviously very painful for you to talk about."
"No, you need to know…" Inuyasha sighed as he pulled her closer to his side. "I was going to give you time to get to know me a little better before I told you... but now that this has happened I think it's for the best. I just hope you don't think poorly of me or act differently around me afterwards."
"I doubt whatever you have to say will be bad enough for me to want to leave you Inuyasha." Kagome teased halfheartedly.
"Why not?" Inuyasha asked as he looked down into her blue eyes in confusion.
"Because I really like you baka." Kagome blushed as she lovingly brushed his bangs back on his forehead. "Just say what you need to say. I promise to still be by your side when you're done."
"Kagome…" Inuyasha sighed before leaning down and kissing her lips in a soft lingering kiss.
He loved it when she whimpered and tightened her grip on his shirt when he swept his tongue into her mouth. She was so responsive to his touch and it had his inner beast purring. He would have loved to continue memorizing all of her pleasure points but they needed to have this conversation. Plus, his brother was right. He needed to have better self-control when it came to Kagome. She wasn't 18 yet meaning she was still technically a minor both in the human world and his. On top of that, her seer powers weren't at their full strength. She needed to remain untouched so she could mature properly and eventually find her soul mate. She'd saved herself this long for her special someone. How selfish was he to take that away from her only weeks away from her celebration? He'd be her supportive boyfriend from the sidelines until that day came. If she ended up being his mate, then they'd talk about what that meant for them and go from there.
If not, then he'd leave the decision to stay with him or not up to her. He already knew these next two months of abstinence were going to be torture. Sure, he and Kagome could mess around but that wasn't the same as going all the way. The last good lay he'd had with Kikyo was little over five months ago. It wasn't that he was a sex fiend or anything. He just really wanted to be with Kagome. It felt... right? The past few weeks his dreams have been nothing but erotic fantasies about her. Plus, just kissing her and holding her in his arms like this had him harder than a rock. The scent of her arousal and passion only added to his misery. He could only imagine how delicious it would be to actually experience Kagome to the fullest. She was already so sweet. He was sure to die of a sugar high by the time they were said and done. He forced himself to pull back when he felt his control slipping.
He didn't doubt he'd easily kiss her mouth for the rest of his days without a problem. He was officially addicted to her taste. Needing to calm down he tucked her head under his chin and slowly breathed in and out of his nose. He could smell her eagerness to continue but also her hesitancy. It appeared that she too was in agreement that they needed to talk. He could tell that she inwardly wanted to know why he was so afraid of letting go of the past and moving on with their relationship. Not wanting her to get the wrong idea, he continued to hold her close and ran his hands up and down her back in a soothing manner. To his relief, it did the trick. Soon they were both relatively back to normal. It was time to tell the truth.
"It all started my freshman year at Tama when Port Hardy got a new chief of police." Inuyasha began as he held her close to his side. "I didn't think anything of it until his kids came to school. His oldest daughter Kikyo was in my class. At first she annoyed the hell out of me with her book smarts and designer clothes but over time I came to realize she was more than just a rich snobby bitch."
"You guys started dating, I take it?" Kagome asked, even though she already knew the answer.
"Not right away." Inuyasha shrugged. "We got hooked up as lab partners in biology and eventually got together after that. We uh… got pretty serious."
"Serious as in how?" Kagome asked, wanting to hear it from his own mouth.
"I wanted to be honest with her. I felt like hiding my true identity was a lie so I made plans to show her my true self. She'd been freaked out at first but she eventually came to accept me for who I was in her own way. We fell deeper in love with each other, even gave ourselves to each other on my 16th birthday. Our intention was to get married after school and move to Alaska." Inuyasha gulped as he listened to Kagome's heartbeat pick up in rhythm. He could smell that this news was upsetting but she remained calm like she'd promised.
"What made you guys break up?" Kagome asked as she tried to ignore the pain of knowing he'd had sex with Kikyo.
She'd assumed they'd been together like that but to hear him say it out loud stung… a lot. Maybe more than it should in her opinion. I mean they'd only just started dating today for goodness sake! Who was she to judge him for being with someone else? She'd had boyfriends before. Sure, she'd never had sex with them and gotten more than a kiss or two on the lips but still! She wasn't completely innocent of a man's touch. Who was she to judge Inuyasha for wanting to feel loved and cared for? She'd wanted the same!
"Kikyo's dad didn't want her dating until she'd finished school. We had to hide our relationship, even at school. He'd noticed her change in behavior but she'd played it off as nothing. Over time however he'd grown suspicious and became the ultimate helicopter parent. He eventually found out she was seeing someone but Kikyo refused to rat me out. We were really careful about photos and being seen together while in public. It wasn't until spring break two years ago that everything went wrong." Inuyasha scoffed as the memory of that horrible day began to play out in his mind. "He followed Kikyo one night and he found us together."
"Don't tell me… you weren't wearing your charm were you?" Kagome sighed.
"Nope." Inuyasha clipped. "The bastard of course freaked out and tried to shoot me. He kept Kikyo closely watched after that. It all ended when Kikyo planned to meet me down by the port. I'd waited for her but it wasn't Kikyo that greeted me."
"Who was it?" Kagome asked.
"Chief Davidson and his fucking hunting buddies." Inuyasha snarled. "I was a set up. I was able to get away from them thankfully but took a bullet to the shoulder."
"What?!" Kagome paled as she sat up in his lap. "Where?!"
"Right here." Inuyasha said as he pulled the collar on his t-shirt down to show her the minor flaw to his skin. To the human eye it looked perfect but up close you could see a slight discoloration in the skin from the scar. "It hurt like a mother fucker."
"I'd imagine so." Kagome nodded as she traced her fingertip over the nearly invisible scar. "I take it you guys broke up after that?"
"Not exactly." Inuyasha sighed. "I found out later that Kikyo never planned on meeting with me that night. Her dad had found my contact labeled "Izayoi" in her phone and set the whole thing up. When she found out what he'd done she rode her bicycle to the port. By the time she'd shown up I'd already been shot and was attempting to escape. She'd tried to follow us through the woods to break up the fight but ended up getting shot by a stray bullet from one of the rebels instead. It punctured her liver. We didn't even realize she'd been hurt with everything else going on. I would have gone back for her had I known she'd been hurt."
"That's completely understandable. You were in excruciating pain and fleeing for your life! There was no way you could have known she was hurt." Kagome sympathized as she played with a strand of his hair absentmindedly. "What happened after that?"
"A damn blood sucker by the name of Naraku found her." Inuyasha snarled as the memory of being reunited with Kikyo a month later came to mind. "She says he saved her but I know for a fact that he was just waiting for the chance to sink his teeth into her."
"What makes you say that?" Kagome asked.
"He'd been lingering around town for close to two months before this happened. I caught his scent multiple times on the branch outside Kikyo's window. He got inside her room once. He stopped coming back when I snuck over to spend the night." Inuyasha spat.
"Ew…" Kagome gagged. "Sounds like a classic stoker to me."
"Exactly." Inuyasha huffed. "Anyways, Kikyo ended up having to leave Port Hardy to keep from killing her own family. Being newly turned vampire the need for blood was too strong. She blamed me for the incident for the longest time. In her opinion, if I were born a full blooded human this would have never happened."
"I say if her father wasn't such a racist controlling jerk it wouldn't have happened. I mean come on! You have no reason to feel ashamed in Kikyo's transformation. If anyone is at fault it's Chief Davidson's! He organized the ambush and it was his men that shot the bullets." Kagome exclaimed, making his eyebrows lift in surprise. "Plus, it sounds like this Naraku fellow was going to turn Kikyo into a vampire even if she didn't get shot."
"Who knows? Kikyo and I were always together. He would have never gotten the chance to bite her had she remained under my protection." Inuyasha shrugged.
"Either way, it wasn't your fault." Kagome finished.
"Feh! Tomatoes, tomatos" Inuyasha waved off. "Anyways, after that I kind of went off the deep end. I got into a lot of trouble and got kind of rebounded with a lot of girls."
"Why are you telling me this?" Kagome frowned in confusion.
"Because I don't want secrets between us." Inuyasha sighed, making her shoulders relax. "I've done a lot of stupid shit in my past and I don't want those coming between us."
"Thanks Inuyasha. It means a lot to me that you're opening up like this." Kagome said before kissing his lips.
"Feh..." Inuyasha blushed as he enjoyed her warm embrace.
"So what does Kikyo have to do with the police officer just now?" Kagome asked.
"That police officer is one of the chief's hunting buddies." Inuyasha growled in annoyance. "He also just so happens to be the same police officer that ran your mom's plate number at the reservation today."
"You've got to be kidding me!" Kagome groaned. "So now the cops will be able to connect my face to the guy's assault case."
"Yes, which means they will be able to find out where you live and go to school." Inuyasha said. "The Chief already has his minions helping your family pack. I just wanted to talk to you first before you become a resident of the reservation tomorrow morning."
"What about graduation? It's only a month away!" Kagome groaned. "I'll go crazy if I have to finish my senior year online!"
"I think it's best you keep going to school at Tama." Inuyasha said. "If we completely remove you from Port Hardy it will make you look suspicious. Plus, it will make having a normal life here very difficult in the long run. We'll come up with a plan just in case the cops come looking for you."
"Thanks Inuyasha." Kagome said before kissing his cheek.
"Feh, come on wench." Inuyasha blushed as he sat up and took her hand. "Let's get you home before the wolves come to help your mom move."
"Good idea. I can already see Koga trying to go through my underwear drawer." Kagome giggled as she walked towards his bike.
"I'll skin him if he even dares to touch what is mine." Inuyasha growled as he playfully swatted her butt. He smirked when he heard her surprised squeak escape her lips.
"Down boy!" Kagome giggled as she covered her butt with her hands as she ran down the hill ahead of him. Her smile grew wider as she heard his warm laughter coming from behind her.
