According to the schedule, the gopher ran out of the bathroom, acting surprised and distressed. Shinichi was pleasantly surprised by his acting skills.

He and Kogoro immediately sprinted to the room, the boy using some of his own acting to seem surprised.

Ran, faithful to her character, called the police immediately. They showed up with a squad containing Takagi, Megure, and Chiba. Familiar with these officers, Kogoro immediately reported to them normally.

Shinichi felt a rush of adrenaline, not sure if he could act entirely as expected. He didn't even know what to investigate without giving out too much incriminating evidence. It was strange being the true object of such an endeavor.

It almost surprised the assassin to what lengths most criminals would go in their convoluted plans. Of course, he had someone to throw under the bus, but he was almost sad at how obvious he had to make it. Even if the thin man wasn't there, would the police actually catch the assassin?

He jolted as Takagi called his name for the 6th time, growing slightly frantic.

"-onan? Conan? Conan!" he said in succession, finally garnering the other's attention, "Are you okay? You seem off…not to be rude!" the Sergeant asked.

"I'm fine, Takagi. I was just looking around!" he replied, his childish acting on high, though he wondered if it was necessary when talking to that man. For some reason, that particular adult seemed to listen to him as an equal.

"If you're not comfortable, you can go whenever. I know you deal with this a lot." Takagi continued.

The absolute caring radiating from the detective almost made Shinichi want to take him up on that offer, but he couldn't afford to let anything go wrong here.

"Really, don't worry." the boy assured the man. Contrary to his outward appearance, the assassin was stressed out of his mind. He was conversing with a person who wouldn't hesitate to arrest him had they known the truth. Hopefully, he had planted enough evidence against him.

Ran had left a few minutes prior, not wanting to be involved in the routine she so often saw. Kogoro, of course, was boasting while investigating absolutely nothing. Shinichi sometimes wondered how the detective explained away his bouts of amnesia. He must know that he most certainly does not have the answer to the case beforehand. Maybe subconsciously?

Megure had ordered Chiba and Takagi off to do some menial task and was chatting with the private detective. He was obviously waiting for some cue, making the boy wonder if it was for the typical hints. The assassin hadn't given any yet because he was trying to avoid saying something wrong. Though, the action brought a thought. How did they solve any case where he wasn't around. They weren't completely incompetent. Perhaps they only did this when he was there?

Shinichi shook his head. Observing the case from another perspective was sure bringing up a myriad of questions he had never before considered. He needed to stop himself and participate before they stumbled onto the real truth.

"Ah le le?" he started, looking around for something, "What's this?" he picked up a business card the deceased man had dropped. This was fortuitous! As the suspects had not given their statements, he read the occupation aloud, hoping to provide the thin man with a more believable backstory.

It perplexed Shinichi at first why they had not provided the backstory already, but Jodie had texted him earlier. They could only confirm the large man's position in this one instance and wanted to make his death as easy as possible. Besides, looking for him costs money and manpower she didn't want to use.

"It says that he was a Carpenter at Circle-Blue company!" the child yelled across the room.

This seemed to make Megure realize that he hadn't yet taken statements. Since his two underlings were gone, he was made to do them himself. This wasn't entirely out of the ordinary.

The woman, or the second suspect, was questioned first. Shinichi observed that she was around his height as well. Would there be a possibility that she would be incriminated on accident? He suddenly became acutely aware that most of the evidence he was counting on could only fuel conjecture.

Takagi and Chiba returned during her statement and informed Megure of their discoveries. They had gone to watch the security cameras. Thankfully, it was illegal to put cameras in the bathrooms.

Strangely enough, the woman had indeed gone to the bathroom around the same time. Shinichi assumed he had been too caught up to realize. That also means that she could have heard something, though the assassin was sure he had been quiet.

When the woman had finished, the thin man introduced himself. The boy was too distracted to catch his name.

Surprisingly, the gopher came up with a believable and blatantly incriminating statement. It indeed was a pity that he was to be arrested.

Shinichi jokingly noted that he was technically the third suspect, but none of the adults even started to look at him.

For once, unprofessional bias worked in his favor.

Though participating in another investigation brought a memory back to his mind.

'Saving someone doesn't require a logical mind'? The boy wracked his mind, but he couldn't remember his original point. Of course, saving someone is more instinct than it is thought-out. If it were, there wouldn't be time to react. Ironically, he'd met nicer criminals than most police officers. You can't wholly judge someone based on their actions unless you know the reason behind it. Shinichi admitted, however, that some people were inherently evil.

"Haha! I know who did it!" Kogoro bellowed from across the room. Admittedly, with his absence, the assassin had almost forgotten he was there.

The older detective walked purposefully towards the suspects, his eyes jutting towards the thin man.

'Good,' the boy thought. Perhaps that buffoon could jump to conclusions and end the case earlier.

Kogoro proceeded to do precisely that, the gopher playing his part perfectly.

During the explanation, the child's phone rang.

"SHINICHI!"
