Chapter 61:

Peak popularity

Like I said, Mt Coronet is so tall that as you get higher, it begins to get snow covered. This was evident by the fact that my step outside went foot deep into snow, heavier than that of Route 217. Thankfully, I had changed into my snow gear again so the cold wouldn't be an issue. Plus, the snow wasn't heavy, so my visibility was greater than that of Route 217.

My main concern however was minding my step. Snow can be slippery, and one slip could lead to a horrible way to go, something I don't want when the universe is at stake and I'm the main guy who could stop it.

My ears popped when I saw something on the rocks. It was hard to see because it was mostly white, but it also had a black horn and black tail.

Absol

Dark Type

Disaster Pokémon

Region of origin: Hoenn

3'11" (1.2 m)

103.6 lbs (47 kg)

Rumored to sense disasters with its horn, it became a target. It fled deep into the mountains.

The Absol jumped down to me. I petted it, thinking that's what it wanted. However, I read the entry on my Dex again; it could sense disasters.

"Absol, I know a disaster is going to happen. I need to reach Spear Pillar. Could you help me?"

Absol shifted its head up to the mountains. Flying on Golbat were Mars and Jupiter. Oh great.

"Daring aren't ya?" Jupiter said. "Scaling one of the biggest mountains in the world to take us on."

"But this is where it ends!" Mars yelled. "Golbat, Air Cutter!"

The two Golbat fired a streak of air high up. The attacks hit some rocks, causing an avalanche.

Absol knelt, signifying me to get on. I had no other choice but to trust it. Absol ran alongside the cliff face and took me to another cave entrance. I couldn't watch the avalanche; I needed to get a move on. But I did tell Absol to find any Pokémon that were potentially injured (or worse) by the avalanche. Absol nodded and we went our separate ways.

Inside this cave was a giant waterfall. I couldn't Surf across the lake to the other side though, the ledge was too high. What I needed to do was use Rock Climb and go around it. I sent out Mamoswine and it scaled the rocky wall.

It was here that I would usually stop for lunch, but I had no time. Plus, I just wanted to make it through what was now turning into a blizzard, that's how high I was. I would try and reach as far as I could up, then I would reach Spear Pillar by tomorrow morning.

I was back in the great freezing outdoors, this time snow hitting my cold face rather than falling on it. I wanted to take a breath of fresh air, but at this point I was struggling to due to the high altitude. I was starting to get dizzy, telling myself I would go on a bit further before taking a break, even when I promised not to. Otherwise, it could be fatal. Freezing or falling to death was bad enough, suffocating was not a good thing to think about either.

I trudged through the snow and down a staircase next to another cave. Before I could walk in, I slumped on the floor. My head felt like it was going to explode. I slowly started to close my eyes as my body slowly seemed incapable of listening to me, when I saw a blue outline of something familiar.

"A…Azelf?"

Azelf came up to me, then hugged my head. I suddenly was able to get a brief grip of my movement again. My courage perked as I slowly got up. "No… I need to do it…"

High in the sky through the heavy snow, was a big outline with wings. It fluttered down. "Staraptor… why are you here?" Staraptor gave me an oxygen mask and tank. I put the mask over my mouth as I felt oxygen flowing through, officially getting my energy back.

"Listen" Azelf told me telepathically. "I don't usually speak to humans or Pokémon like this, but I believe in you. Once you get to Spear Pillar, you will be fine to take off the mask. The air is natural up there. Also, if you need to command your Pokémon, take the mask off quickly and give it the command."

I decided that I needed a practice, so I walked into some of the tall grass. The Pokémon I encountered was white and round, with a think silky white and red part to it. It had a yellow sphere on top of its head.

Chimecho

To knock foes flying, it makes the air shudder with its cries. It converses using seven cries.

Chingling (Baby Pokémon) -Happiness at Night- Chimecho

I sent out Luxray but didn't say it. I quickly took off the mask and shouted "Crunch!" before putting it back on again. Sure enough, Luxray chomped down on Chimecho for lots of damage. Chimecho then came back with Double Edge. It charged into Luxray at full force. "Again!" One more Crunch and Chimecho was finished.

Staraptor was already gone; I could understand. It didn't like being frozen the first time. Uxie and Mesprit appeared above me at that moment.

"Don't give up!" Mesprit told me, as I felt happy. "You're almost there!"

"We will assist you at the top! Remember that!" Uxie said, as the Lake Guardians flew up the mountain. "We will meet you up there!"

I entered the next cave where I came face to face with an F Grunt, with a Galactic proven mask and tank. I didn't even speak, because it wouldn't be worth it.

"You're not gonna be saying anything after I deal with you!" she shouted, before putting on the mask again.

I sent out Toxicroak.

"Houndour!" Grunt F yelled.

"Revenge!" I yelled as Toxicroak punched Houndour, almost knocking it out.

"Fire Fang!" Houndour's teeth set fire, then it bit Toxicroak who was hurt a LOT.

"Poison Jab!" Toxicroak jabbed Houndour. That was what finished it.

The next Pokémon was Glameow. "Sucker Punch!" Glameow managed to hit Toxicroak first, but that also made Revenge stronger, knocking out the Normal Type.

No time to even accept the Prize Money, I started to run. This meant I encountered a lot more Pokémon, but the Black Flute certainly helped.

As I reached the 6th floor, I needed to stop for a bit to think about my progress. The Badges I earned, the friends I made, the team I trained and, most of all, the enemies I had to defeat.

However, I could only get about one hour worth of rest in because, Team Galactic Grunts were waiting for me.

I wanted to speak. However, I couldn't. I wasn't going to waste precious oxygen to try and talk them out of it; they weren't going to listen to me. But they were going to battle me.

"Lucas!" Dawn was joining me, with a tank of her own. She nodded at me; we were going to take on these guys together, and we were going to start off with a Double Battle between an M and F Grunt.

"Murkrow!"

"Stunky!"

"Empoleon!"

"Infernape!" Dawn said, sending out a fiery Pokémon with black hands and white hair all over it.

Infernape

Chimchar -Lv 14- Monferno -Lv 36- Infernape

"Close Combat!" Dawn said as she took off her mask briefly. Infernape went up to Stunky and started attacking it wildly. Stunky was down in one.

"Faint Attack!" Murkrow went up to Empoleon and hit it.

"Flash Cannon!" Empoleon shot a white beam at Murkrow. It was knocked out.

Golbat and Croagunk were the next Pokémon.

"Fire Spin!" Infernape shot some spiralling flames at Croagunk who got trapped in the vortex of fire.

"Air Cutter!" Golbat fired two streaks, one for each Pokémon. Infernape was almost finished by the move because it was a Fighting Type.

"Flash Cannon!" A white beam was fired at Golbat; down in one.

"Fire Spin!" Another one of those and Croagunk was down.

Dawn took off her mask for a minute. "I'll take them on. Cyrus is your concern, mine is getting you up to him." She said this as quickly as she could before putting the mask on again.

I continued to run up. The Grunts tried to stop me, but Infernape was there to stop them.

The final floor. It was here where I rested up. The battle of the universe would take place tomorrow.
