Kim Possible: Vamped

"Call when you get back," Dana waved as Amy started her truck with a rumble and a belch of exhaust fumes.

Amy waved back as she pulled out of the drive, and then pulled away.

Dana sighed and looked after her.

"When the moment is right, you'll both know," Kim told her, putting a hand on her surrogate daughter's shoulder as she came up behind her.

"I just hope she stays safe."

"We'll keep an eye on her. Don't worry. Until the time comes, she'll be fine."

Dana eyed her mother but said nothing of Monique likely thinking that, too.

"So, enjoy your week off?"

"A lot. Especially with Amy. I'm kind of glad your folks didn't mind her being around, too."

"Mom and dad are great," Kim allowed. "I'll miss them when they're gone."

"I can see that. I never did ask. Did mom give you much trouble back when you saw her….?"

"Actually," Kim smirked, "She doesn't even remember me showing up. About now, she likely thinks she threw out all your things," the redhead actually smiled again.

"Oh. Oh, wow, I really wish I could have seen her face when you…."

"She was pretty much as you predicted. I don't think I have ever seen anyone so bitter or hateful."

"Did you…find out why….?"

"She's just a hate-filled woman, Dana. Sometimes there are people that are just….bad. You just had the bad luck of ending up with one."

"I feel sorry my brother is stuck with her now," she murmured as they shut the door once they headed inside after Amy was gone from sight.

Most of the neighborhood remained quiet just now, but it had only been about a week since that deadly attack on their town. Some had yet to relax. Some took it in stride, remembering other attacks by other madmen. Some just tried to pretend it never happened.

Monique's parents had been the only family to invite Kim to the memorial in her honor.

"I think he'll find his own way. If he's as tough as you, he'll be fine," Kim assured her.

"I hope so. We were…never close, but…"

"See, that's what family is all about. Even if you can't stand them, you should always support them. You're there for them no matter what. Your mom obviously doesn't understand that one."

"Well, I can't say I miss her," Dana grumbled. "Or that stupid little town."

"Just Amy?"

"She was the sun in my life, Kim. Without her…. Without her, I probably wouldn't have made it."

"I don't believe that. As I said, sweetie, you're stronger than you realize."

"I froze that day. I was slow, and I hesitated…."

"You didn't grow up fighting the way I did. No one blames you for anything. You did what you could, and you helped save a lot of lives, Dana," Kim told her. "That is what matters."

"If I had been a little faster…."

"Sometimes," Kim told her, remembering Shego's words, "Life just sucks. You can't do anything about it. You can't change it. You just have to accept it and move on. Sometimes, that his how you grow. Or…you shatter. I prefer to keep growing," Kim nodded firmly. Then she abruptly smiled, asking, "So, want to spar?"

"You know what Dr. Director said."

"She says a lot of things," Kim huffed. "At times, she's gotten as bad as Du lately. Besides, we won't….show off. We'll just practice a few basics in the back yard. No big," Kim smiled. "I'm just getting tired of tiptoeing through life. That was never how I lived, and it never will be."

"I think we both could use some fun again," Dana smiled faintly.

"Absolutely," Kim agreed.

"Right. Let's change, and do some sparring then. Only just imagine the debriefing when someone reports us, and Betty totally freaks out."

Kim only laughed now.

"What's she going to do? Spank us?"

Dana laughed, and raced off saying, "Last one changed has to take the blame," she shouted and was gone.

Kim chortled and sped after her.

Dr. Director sat drumming her fingers on her desk, trying very hard not to grind her teeth.

"Problems," Ron Stoppable asked, dropping in after being asked to consult with her on a matter she didn't reveal over the phone.

She glared at the boy that seemed to move almost soundlessly at times now, and couldn't help remembering when he once fell over his own falling pants. He had come a long way. An unbelievably long way.

Only so had Kimberly. Only it was in a direction no one could have ever possibly predicted.

"Ronald," she nodded at him and stilled her fingers. "I believe you and Shego promised to keep an eye on those two when they moved back to town."

"And we have. I've even, ah, studied a bit to better help Kim with her….new problems. So far, in spite of that Hardhead guy, she's been okay."

"Okay? So, you don't see her antics of late as a problem?"

"Antics," Ron frowned in genuine confusion.

Dr. Director sighed.

"They have been seen sparring at unnatural speed over three times in the past two weeks."

"No one thinks her unnatural. For Kim, that's pretty ordinary," Ron said with a wan smile. "And, you know, Shego even joined them once."

"Shego was attempting to break them up before they got….insane."

"KP? No, she wouldn't…."

"She was stopped jogging through town at midnight," Betty went on. "That's odd, even for her."

"Actually, she and Dana were playing hide-and-seek. You know, helping the girl hone her senses so she, ah, could step up a little faster."

Dr. Director shook her head.

"At midnight," she demanded.

"Well, you know, they're still pretty much….night people," Ron grimaced.

"Ronald, we have had enough trouble trying to keep the truth from people. Her antics are not helping when she practically shoves a lot of clichés in a lot of faces. It's as if…."

"Exactly," Ron Stoppable smirked now.

"What?"

"Look, if you thought someone was a vampire trying to hide in plain sight, what would they try to do? Act crazy, and run around all hours? Show off in plain sight? Or maybe play silly games in the middle of the night? No, that's just KP being KP, and a lot of people are used to her acting goofy at times in her own way. So, she's kind of laying low by not laying low, and so no one believes she really is what she is, because she's acting like she is but not."

Dr. Director groaned, and just shook her head.

"Just try to get them to be a little more discreet."

"I'll drop a word. You know how she is, though, Dr. Director. Kim is gonna be Kim. And it's kind of funny watching her teach Dana how to be like her while being herself. If you know what I…."

"That's enough. Just get her to slow down, and use a degree of intelligence before she decides to manifest in the middle of town."

"Kim's not that stupid," Ron huffed. "You may think she's being careless," Ron said in a surprisingly stern tone now. "But I can tell you now, she's being really clever about all of this. In fact, I doubt anyone in town is even worried about her even after seeing her take apart that giant clone with her bare hands."

Dr. Director didn't point out that the entire town was odd, and apparently used to oddities. Others that might be watching weren't, though, and it was those she worried over. Especially with a lot of new eyes on them of late after Hardbed went down in flames. No one had seen the man of late either, and the head of GJ had the unnerving feeling no one ever would.

The fact his disappearance had coincided with Kim shaking off the last of her depression did not ease her suspicions.

"Trust her, Dr. Director," Ron smiled again. "If Kim was about to go all evil she'd be a lot more clever about it than running through town playing games. The truth is, the fact she's playing games tells me she's more normal than ever."

"What," the head of GJ sputtered again.

"Well, I might have, ah, heard from someone that knows that Elders have these….aspects. Some of them can pop out if you push them too much about things. That's when they're really dangerous. Only KP's aspects are all cool just now. No obvious extremes. So, no big as she says."

"And her grief over Miss Robinson?"

"Hey, she's not over that. Who would be when they were so….close? Only she's also happy that at least she didn't return as a creepy leech. So, yeah, she's technically good, and working to help Dana grow up more than ever."

"You don't find that worrying?"

"Uh, why would I? In fact, why would you?"

"Ronald, one Elder we can't control is bad enough. If Kimberly somehow triggers that girl's maturity now that we know she's a true blood heir…."

"Then Dana grows up and doesn't have to look all freakish all the time. She can go incognito like Kim, and they can claim they were finally cured. See? No problem?"

Dr. Director dropped her head.

For a moment, she had forgotten who she was speaking to here.

"That will be all, Ronald," she sighed.

"Sure. Just call if you need anything else," Ron smiled and waved.

When she looked up he was gone. Just gone.

She shook her head again.

How could such a clown be the most powerful mystic warrior on the planet? Ron Factor indeed she mused helplessly.

"Dr. Director," Will Du appeared after a soft knock. "We just got word from the Marseilles branch. It seems Sonique is moving again," he told her, mentioning one of the troublesome newcomers to appear of late while he handed over a file. "Do we call in Team Possible?"

"Not just yet. I'm still not sure Kim might not kill her."

"Seriously?"

"Ronald just admitted that Kim is trying to trigger Dana's maturity as her heir."

"Doesn't that mean," the younger agent frowned.

"Exactly."

"God help us," Will blurted.

"Exactly," Dr. Director echoed. "Call in Agent Fyne and Small. Send them to Marseille to back up the locals. Hopefully, they can manage her."

"I'll send word at once. What about Possible?"

"Hands off. And try to contain the outside media. As of now, I want Middleton contained without it being obvious. It's the only way to keep Kimberly calm, and hopefully undiscovered."

Will Du eyed her doubtfully but said nothing as he left to carry out his orders. Frankly, he already felt Middleton was a ticking bomb, and Possible was the fuse. Knowing Ron, though, he might actually stand with her in spite of the danger she represented to the world and everyone in it. Which made him ponder the chances of anyone facing someone like Stoppable if he backed up a monster like Possible.

It was not an inspiring scenario.
