Ha'zan Spear
Overview
Not as a iconic as the ma'tok staff but arguably more effective, the Ha'zan Spear weapon is a variant of the staff used by Goa'uld that were more concerned with warfare and reserved for their most elite jaffa. The most prominent user of this weapon was Ares and his Spartan Guard.
Normally, Goa'uld gave their jaffa the bare minimum when it came to fighting since the jaffa were disposable tools. Ares sought to equip his elite guard with tools befitting of the spirits fighting on behalf of the god of war.
Design
The spear weapon is shorter, lighter, and lacks the large paddles at either end. Instead, both ends possess sharp tips that can be used to impale opponents. The spear tip of the firing end is longer and flattened to possess bladed edges. This tip is composed of four sections which split open to reveal the barrel. The back which holds its liquid naquadah power source is conical but still possess a tip. The bolts fired does not possess the same explosive power but travel faster, are more accurate, and are more likely to penetrate the target. Unlike the ma'tok staff, the power setting on the spear weapon cannot be adjusted. Jaffa use the staff as a way to train with the spear.
The spear also comes along with several attachments, the most notable one is a type of dual-function weapon sight. It can serve as a type of holographic weapons sight or transform into a scope for long range sniping. The spear also possesses retractable grips. When sniping, the grips are lowered and the spear is placed on the wielder's should like a rocket launcher.
Like the staff, the spear can be used as a melee weapon.
Spear heads may vary in appearance and design. Instead of four pieces, it may only be composed of two and will split open to form a bident. The edges may be serrated or have any number of deigns on it.
Specs
At approximately 1.25 meters in length, the spear weapon is still relatively unwieldy but this is compensated by the enhanced strength of the jaffa. Spear weapons are semi automatic and can fire as quickly as the trigger is pulled. It fires extremely condensed bolts of plasma.
Each bolt is not particularly powerful but has incredible penetrative capabilities. And when it impacts a target, it will penetrate deep into the object with little explosive impact.
Users
The spear weapon is not as widely used as the staff being more expensive and the bolts do not possess the explosive blast that terrify more primitive civilizations. Some elite jaffa are given these weapons by Goa'uld more concerned with warfare. One such Goa'uld is Ares who gave ha'zan spear weapons to his Spartan Guard.
Development
I feel Stargate should have expanded its arsenal. It probably didn't because of budget. I also wished they didn't turn the jaffa into stormtroopers and turn the staff weapons into mediocre pew pew sticks. They were so awesome when they were first introduced then they just became terrible. The spear weapon is my attempt to breath new life into the staff weapon, sort of. I actually turned to the Thor films when designing Goa'uld weapons. Thor raises his hammer, lightning strikes it, then he shoots lightning from it. That was probably the aim of the Goa'uld, to give a show like that they were gods with superpowers.
