One Last Time
"Honestly, which idiot thought that this was a good idea?" I asked in absolute frustration.
"I have no idea…" Itachi stated, sounding equally as annoyed as I was.
"Seriously, this has to be the most ignorant decision ever made." I continued my complains with a frown. "Who puts two temporarily blind people in the same house and expect them to function?"
"A moron, obviously." Itachi added to the list of insults.
"I want food!" I growled hungrily.
"Same…" Itachi's stomach confirmed his words. "But I don't have any food and we can't exactly go out and buy…"
"Whoever made this decision is getting pranked so hard!" I promised both the moron, Itachi and myself.
"I thought you quit all that stuff when you became the Hokage?" Itachi snorted in amusement, quickly stopped by his growling stomach. "Okay, I need food. It's been two days…"
"Well, we could probably at least get out of the beds. We've been laying here for two days now." I commented. "But seriously, why hasn't anyone stopped by to make sure we had something to eat and drink?"
"Maybe they forgot?" Itachi wondered out loud. "I mean, with only three other people being aware that I'm alive, only those three can stop by. And with the war and everything…"
"Kaka-baka that bloody traitor! He dissed me for war-stuff?" I muttered while mentally picturing the Hatake with neon coloured hair. Suddenly the door to the house opened and I felt a very familiar chakra signature. "Speak of the Devil and he shall appear. If only I could see so that I could prank him…"
"Kira-chan!" Kakashi called out cheerfully while opening the door to our room and walking in. Both Itachi' and my stomach growled in perfect sync at the sent of food. "I missed you! Tsunade-sama sent me on such a long mission so I couldn't stop by before today, but Tsunade-sama promised to make sure you were taken care of, so I accepted."
"Taken care of? We've been fucking starving!" I snarled and started plotting my revenge against Tsunade. Kakashi interrupted said plotting by showing a piece of bread into my mouth.
"You need to eat! If you starve, then how am I going to marry you?" He ordered and placed a glass with what I assumed was water in my other hand, all while stroking my hair worriedly. "Then I need to murder Tsunade-sama and hide the body…"
"Or you can help me with my super-awesome-incredible-fantastic-magically-great prank!" I proposed after chewing and swallowing the bread. A groan was heard from across the room. 'Oh right, Tachi is here…' I remembered, blushing slightly over the fact that he had heard everything.
"First of all, please never talk about marrying my sister in front of me again or I will castrate you, sempai." Itachi stated, his tone showing that he was dead serious. "Secondly, I can feel you blushing, Akira."
"Fuck off."
"Don't talk so rudely to your nii-san."
"It's by one day, Tachi, one day!"
In just a few days later, I was finally allowed to take of the bandage covering my eyes, though the newly returned Tsunade ordered me to await using the Sharingan for another three-four days. It was worth it anyways, as I no longer had to depend on Kakashi for meaningless tasks. As it turned out, Tsunade had forgotten to tell Shizune to make sure Itachi and I had everything we needed. To pay my beloved Hokage back, I put her on the top spot on my pranking list. Usually I didn't keep a list over future victims, but with the upcoming war, even I wasn't childish enough to distract Tsunade with pranks. Instead, I worked on getting back in shape and helping out with the planning process. There was a lot of planning going into a war. Not only did it mean we needed a full understanding on the skillset of all of our Shinobi, but also a review of all the weapons, food, medicine and other important resources in the village. Then there was the matter of organizing all of the nins into different units and planning who was the most suited for what. Generally, it was taking a lot of effort.
"Akira-nee-chan!" the familiar voice of a certain Jinchuriki called out from behind me. "Nee-chan! Is it true that you're coming with me on my super-cool S-rank?"
"Yes, I have a different mission than you, though." I answered with a chuckle as Naruto started walking next to me, the two of us walking towards the Hokage Tower. "One of my ANBU and myself have a very important task to complete at the same island you're going to, so we'll get to hang out a lot."
"Wow, that's going to be so cool! I've never been on a mission with you, nee-chan!" Naruto exclaimed and I felt slightly guilty over the fact that it all was a farce to keep Naruto away from the upcoming war. "Hey, since you're the Hokage it most be a super-hard mission!"
"Tsunade's the Hokage now that she's awake again, Naru-chan." I corrected with a smile, pushing down any feeling of guilt. "I'm just going as a Jonin."
"Yeah, yeah, but everyone knows that you're also the Hokage. You're both doing the job right now, so that counts as being the Hokage." Naruto insisted brightly, earning an amused chuckle from me. "Isn't that why you're headed for the Hokage Tower?"
"Oh… You're right about that, Tsunade needs to work with the Hospital on something so I'll be taking over for the remaining day before we leave." I realised with a sigh. 'How tiresome. Oh shit, Tadashi's affecting me again. Get back to awesomeness, Akira!'
"Yeah! And that's totally awesome!" Naruto cheered and I raised an eyebrow. 'Yeah, you'll learn the truth eventually, Naru-chan.'
Dinner with Kakashi was for once a sad occasion. It was our last dinner together before leaving on our separate jobs for the war. He would be fighting on the front line while I would be going with Naruto. It was therefore a sombre feeling that filled the air once we sat down to eat. The worry of losing him had started eating me the second I sat down. 'What if this is our last meal? What if I lose him?' were the only thoughts in my head as I watched him in front of me. I already knew the agonizing feeling of losing him to a certain extent, but I had no idea what it would mean to live without him, and I had no desire to find out. The pain I felt when I found him dead during the Pein invasion was more than enough for a lifetime. He was the love of my life and I couldn't stand the thought of living without him. The very idea pained me to the very core.
"I can practically feel the worry radiating off you, Kira-chan." Kakashi said amusedly, though his eyes were dead serious. We both understood the severity of the situation. Of war.
"Of course I'm worried! You're going to the front line, and I won't be there to stop your suicidal tendencies!" I snapped, immediately regretting it. "Please, Kashi… I don't know what I'm going to do if… if you don't come home. Promise me you'll come home!"
"How about a deal?" Kakashi asked with a slightly mischievous look in his eyes. He grabbed one of my left hand and interlaced our fingers. "I promise you to come home if you promise to marry me after the war?"
My cheeks turned red, all thoughts of war disappearing from my mind. 'Marry him? Oh Kami. Oh Kami!' I gaped as he pulled out a box and opened it, showing a beautiful silver diamond ring.
"Oh Kami, yes!" I somehow managed to say, my eyes watering. Kakashi was out of his chair and around the table in under a second. The next thing I knew, I was being held by him and spun around. Both of us laughing and crying at the same time.
"By the way, Kashi, did you talk to Tachi before proposing?" I asked my boyfriend the next morning, my head resting on his chest, a single duvet covering us from the cold morning air.
"Maa, I was planning to, but then the black cat I'm avoiding came back from the dead…" Kakashi started explaining while I raised a single eyebrow.
"Wait it died?" I asked in slight confusion.
"It was a watermelon incident; I don't like to talk about it." Kakashi explained as if it was a horrible memory. "Anyways, the black cat was blocking the entrance to the Uchiha Compound, so I had to leave."
"Maybe Itachi won't mind? It's not like he's my father or anything like that." I tried to convince myself. 'Yeah, I'm going to end up a widow before getting married…'
Naruto was so excited to leave for the 'Super-awesome S-rank mission' that the rest of the team couldn't help but smile. We were all ready to leave and just going through our last goodbyes. We all tried to keep it as casual as possible, none of us wanting Naruto to realize that we were being genuinely scared to not see the people we were saying our goodbyes to again.
"I love you." I whispered to Kakashi and kissed him, his mask stopping my lips from touching his.
"I love you more." He whispered back and spun us around, so his back was facing the rest of the group, pulled down his mask and kissed me straight on the lips. "I'll keep our deal."
"You better, or I'll bring you back to kill you." I joked slightly, forcing myself not to cry. "I'll see you on the other side of the war."
"GUYS! Let's go!" Naruto called out excitedly, and I let go of Kakashi, forcing myself to turn around. Forcing myself to leave. A supporting hand was laid on my shoulder.
"You'll see him again." Itachi told me as if it was absolutely certain.
"We don't know that." I whispered sadly.
"No, but we have to hope and believe in our comrades. That's what us Konoha Shinobi does." Itachi stated. "And that faith will keep us strong."
"Our Will of Fire."
