A faint pained voice pulls Alexander out of rest mode, and he moves quickly towards Amy's bedroom. It is late at night, and the room is dark, lit only by moonlight.

"Amy? Are you all right?" he asks, as she sits up on her bed.

"You...you heard me? I'm sorry," she says, and she winces slightly as she shifts.

"What's wrong?"

"I turned wrong or something," she sighs, and she grimaces slightly. "Must've banged my ankle, and that woke me up."

"You should wear your ankle brace at night," Alexander says, and his voice is chiding slightly.

"I hate tryin' to sleep in those things," Amy says, and there is a faint whine to her voice. "I can't fall asleep with one on. They're hot and uncomfortable and they keep my foot too stiff."

"The point is to keep you ankle in place. So you don't hurt it in your sleep like you just did."

Amy makes a face. "I'd rather get woken up than spend half the night tossin' and turnin' because I can't frickin' get comfy enough to fall asleep."

She lets out a groan and lies back down with a thump, then covers her face with her pillow.

Alexander takes the pillow out of her hands and lifts her slightly to put the pillow under her head, and Amy snorts. "Who knew I wasn't buyin' an android, but a mother hen."

"Would you like a painkiller? It has been over six hours since you last took one."

Amy shakes her head. "Naw, it ain't that bad."

"It woke you up."

"So would my alarm clock. Don't need an ibuprofen for that, neither."

"I really think you should put on your ankle brace, Amy."

"No, because they suck and like I said, I can't sleep if I have one on."

"But what if you reinjure yourself again?"

"I swear, you fret worse than anything. It was a one-off. I'll be fine. Good night!" Her last words are emphatic.

"What about wrapping it? It would be looser than the brace."

She covers her face with the pillow again. "Oh my god, you're not gonna let me go back to sleep. And I hate those at night, too! Look, I promise, I will be fine. Let me go back to sleep. It is the ass end of night an' I don't wanna be awake anymore. You keep talkin' my ear off an' I won't be able to go back to sleep!"

"I'm sorry, Amy," he says contritely, and Amy groans.

"Now you're making me feel guilty," she grumbles as she puts her pillow back and tries to make herself comfortable.

"Good night, Amy. I'll stay here in case you need anything," Alexander says, and there is enough moonlight for him to see Amy's eyebrows shoot up.

"What, here? In my room?" she says, sounding surprised.

"I will be able to respond faster if anything happens," he says, tilting his head.

"Yes, but..." she begins, then trails off, her mouth still hanging open.

"If you won't wear the ankle brace like the doctor told you to, or wrap it with a bandage, then I can monitor you to make sure you do not accidentally hurt your ankle while you are asleep."

"Oh my god, I'm bein' guilt tripped by my android," Amy groans, and Alexander simply blinks.

"You don't want me to help you?" Alexander finally says, looking down and away, and Amy groans again.

"Oh my god, it is too early-slash-late for me to even think right now. Fine, fine, make yourself unobtrusive and...I'll just pretend being watched while I sleep is normal. Jesus Christ."

"Thank you, Amy," Alexander says, and his voice sounds sincere. "I...I don't like it when you're in pain when you don't need to be."

"It's this or you sad puppy dog eye me into wearing a brace, isn't it?"

Alexander doesn't respond; just stares at her.

Amy lets out a faint snort of fond laughter. "You win, you win. I give up. You can stay. Go on, 'monitor' me or whatever. Time for me to not be awake no more. Night, Alexander," she says, and turns her back to him, snuggling into her blankets with a sigh.

Alexander watches her slowly fall back asleep, then begins watching over her ankle in her sleep.
