HELLSING WITCH HUNTER:1616

DIANAPRINCE31

Ch. 34: Let There Be Light (or Not)

Disclaimer: I do not own Hellsing

Somewhere in the middle of London

"Fuck you Integra, this is our witch, get your own!"

Why must she be so stupid? Was the thought that went through Integra's mind as she and Baskerville were thrown into a building by a blast of light.

"She's not moving. Should we-?" asked Seras.

"Focus on the fight, if she's smart, she'll stay down," said Sam. The fight included a male demon, which glowed brightly and wielded light as a weapon. Ever since Sam and Seras came upon the light demon, nothing they threw at him seemed to work. And bullets of bolts were slapped down with a shield of light and they Hunters had to dodge large discs of light being tossed at them. By now the demon who called hi9mself Apollo for the Greek god of light was growing bored. "Really? Is that all the great King's Hunters can do? Swinging at me with those big swords won't work" he sighed. When Seras charged at him, Apollo said, "I guess I haven't killed the other one so quickly, wonder if she had a plan."

"How about you plan this?" yelled Sam as an avalanche of lightning rained down on Apollo, who just laughed; "You do know that lightning is light, right?" He easily absorbed the lightning and quickly dispersed it, striking several nearby buildings and killing some civilians. Seras tried next since light gave Apollo his power, she would use something else.

"Releasing Tiamat Restrictions….Level 2…." Out of the ground lumbered a large bear made of rock and ran towards Apollo with a deafening roar, his claws smashing the light barrier. This was Jackal, Harkonnen's earth-based familiar. Once the barrier was gone, Jackal started tearing into Apollo, but the demon disappeared, leaving the Huntress and Jackal confused. Then tendrils of light grabbed the large earth bear and started thrashing it about. He then threw the animal at the Hunters. Harkonnen absorbed Jackal before he made contact with the Hunters. Apollo grinned, "Well that's more like it. I thought I was done for."

"This damn demon is tougher than I thought, but I know he mortal, so something should kill him" growled Sam.

"How about water? You hit him with ice and I'll summon Jackal again" whispered Seras.

"Come on ladies, I have places to go."

"Releasing Amaterasu Restrictions…Level 3…."

Several large tornados picked up Apollo and started tossing him around as if he was a ball.

'Releasing Amaterasu Restrictions…Level 2…."

Then through the winds, a flock of birds made of ice flew towards the demon scratching him with their large talons. With a roar, Jackal was summoned and joined in the fray, slashing and smashing the light demon with his massive paws. When the winds died down, Apollo plummeted to the earth, a mangled mess. Sam and Seras high fived each other.

"Time to end this" smiled the assassin, "a bullet through the brain and…."A light enveloped Apollo and he stood up completely healed.

"What the hell?" said Seras.

Pointing to the sun, Apollo said, "It's still day time, ladies. I told you I draw power from light. Any light, even reflective surfaces. As long as I can see the beautiful light, nothing can stop me!"

"Fine by me," said Sam "I can do this all day."

"So can I," said Seras.

Releasing Tiamat Restrictions….Level 3…."

The ground opened up underneath Apollo's feet and he fell into a pit of spikes. Every time he healed himself, coils of rock would pull him back into the pit.

"It's cute that you think that this can hold me-" As the light demon was gloating, a loud screech could be heard and a large black and red eagle dove towards Apollo's face, scratching at his eyes.

"Releasing Cromwell Restrictions….Level 2.…"

"Oh fuck" said Sam. "I'll with that bitch, you deal with that fool."

"Sam! Don't do…." Sam didn't hear anything above the shriek of Apollo getting his eyes pecked out. Hermes plucked out each eyeball and ate them.

'Integra, I told you that we had this handled, we don't need your help."

But Integra was not paying attention to Sam as she bellowed, "Seras! What are you waiting for? Kill him now!"

"Oh yeah, yes sir!" The large rock bear charged at Apollo, who was now stumbling around with his hands stretched out, "My eyes, I can't see the beautiful light…." Jackal pounced on him, tearing his throat out and shredding his innards, soon the light demon was no more. Soon people came pouring out from hiding, cheering, "The Hunters have saved us!" As the crowds drew nearer to them, Sam hissed, "We'll talk about this later." Integra however climbed painfully into the saddle, "Enjoy your party, I have to go and get screamed by Walter for being thrown into a building and having a horse land on me."

Hellsing Estate- Two days after Apollo's Attack

"Sir, Sam, and Seras are at the gate demanding entry," said Philip.

"Tell them that I have died of my injuries."

Walter raised an eyebrow, "That's a bit much, Sir."

"Well tell them to leave or I will have them arrested." Philip went to relay the message, when he returned he said, "They claim that it is important, it is about the attack that happened two days ago."

"They got their parties and their drinks. They probably were fucked by anything with a pole or a hole, so why do they want to bother me?"
"Perhaps, you should hear them out" suggested Walter.

"Perhaps I don't want to" replied Integra.

"Now Sir Integra…"

"Fine let them in, but tell them to leave their weapons with the guards, to make it short and if they could write they want to say, that would be wise."

As Walter led the two Hunters to Integra's office, Seras found herself gaping around, she had been there before but it had been a long time. She glanced at Sam, who was tight-lipped. It was obvious that she was not pleased with the fact that she had to leave her weapons behind. Since Sam was an assassin, the guards checked her three times over. Then several soldiers followed behind them as they made their way to Integra's office.

"Isn't this a bit excessive?" asked Sam.

"How quickly you forget, Sam" chided Walter.

"Look I just offered her freakin' brat some lessons in swordsmanship from a guy I know, how is that a threat?"

"You can ask Sir Hellsing that, but I warn you it may not be wise" answered the butler.

When they entered, Integra fixed them with a long hard glare, "So what was of the utmost importance that you needed to come here?"

"I wanted to know how you know how to defeat Apollo?" asked Seras.

If her ribs weren't still hurting her, Integra would have jumped up and slapped the blonde. "You could have written a note."

"But you wouldn't have replied."

"That is true. Fine, I'll answer your question, but next time you write. The fool was bragging about his ability to use light as long as he could see it. He practically told you his weakness. So if he couldn't see the light he would not be able to harness its power, leaving a useless pile of garbage."

"Oh we should have been able to think of that," said Seras feeling foolish.

"We would have eventually come up with that," said Sam.

"Eventually is not enough. Eight people were killed in that hunt perhaps evacuating the people should be a priority."

"Don't tell us…."

"Fine have it your way."

Seras sighed, she was getting tired of all the fighting, it was getting them nowhere, "Sultan Faheem said that we had to find a way to at least tolerate each to protect this country."

"That wouldn't be the first time someone told us that," said Integra, "too bad Sam is an immature child."

"Not helping, Sir," said Philip.

"Sam, lately you changed, you're no fun to be around anymore. So enjoy your arguments, I have a date with Uriel." As she left the office Seras called back to Sam, "Sam maybe you need some kind of purpose in your life, I don't know."

After a few minutes of glaring at Integra, Sam stormed out of the office.

Hunter Lodge- Later that Night

Sam couldn't sleep no matter how hard she tried Seras' words kept taking up space in her head, so did Seras' attitude towards her. Seras had spent the entire day with Uriel and had crept into her room to avoid talking to her. Sam sighed she was driving her one true friend away. Something had to change and quickly. Seras missed the fun Sam, the woman who made her smile and laugh with her antics and jokes; she even got a smirk out of Integra with the raunchy nicknames and sexual innuendos. Now neither one of them wanted to be in the same building with her. Sam sighed; it was no fun being alone. Loneliness meant being vulnerable and Sam hated being vulnerable. She thought back on Seras' words about she needed a purpose. Sure Sam was the King's assassin and a Hunter but what else was she?

Seras was known to be a kind person who helped out the LMPD on some of their cases. They respected her highly because she bought a new kind of attitude to the force. Seras was also loved by children especially the orphans at the orphanage. When Seras was not helping the LMPD or hunting witches, she was at the orphanage assisting Father Anderson and his staff. She used her money to buy clothes, food, and other important necessities for the children. Seras also collected donations and they went to the repair of the building itself. She also made it aware the children needed good loving homes and adoption rates went up. That was Seras' purpose.

Being the King's assassin meant that Sam heard things that others didn't. And she heard a lot about Integra. Loathe as she was to admit it, Integra was quite the admirable person. Though she was filthy rich, she cared for the lower classes. Sure Integra used her vast wealth to protect the country providing the weapons armor, transportation, and security personnel needed, but she also wanted others to thrive. Sam had seen larger, richer businesses bear down on small business owners trying to force them to sell their life long business for next to nothing. However, having the King as a personal friend meant that there were laws created to protect the people from the affluent big business owners. Integra also spent time with the people to find out their opinions. Workers such as the grooms and servants liked Integra because she had a kind word, was genuinely concerned for them, and bothered to learn their names. The heiress also commanded loyalty and respect from those around her. Integra did not get any points among many of the nobles, who believed that they could do whatever they wanted to do. Integra was a champion for those who wanted to rise. That was Integra's purpose.

Seras and Integra were not bitter or angry like Sam and she knew that needed a purpose, helping people. Sam sighed again, she couldn't spend the rest of her life alone, killing and sexing. Her tombstone if she got one would have a pitiful epitaph and as a Hunter that could not be it would even make her family look bad. The Huntress thought back to the days of her training as an assassin before the massacre things had been simpler then and she'd given anything to go back there. By now Sam knew she would have been an amazing assassin being sent on missions all over England and even abroad, either solo, in pairs, or groups. She would be gathering information and blending in with the populace to get the job done. And after the mission she would be paid and depending on whom the client was, it could be a handsome amount. Years later she could start her own guild of assassins and train the next generation, but thanks to the Whitehall, she was stuck being a Hunter, a destiny she did not want. Had someone asked her if she had wanted to be a Hunter, Sam would have asked them if they ran away from the lunatic asylum. She had heard Integra tell Walter that she did not believe that Sam wanted to be a Hunter and seeing the situation she was in now, Sam was wondering the same. "A Hunter that doesn't want to be one is detrimental to the team and country" Walter had said. Maybe I don't want to be a Hunter. But something whispered inside of her, you don't want to be a Hunter without a purpose. Maybe if she found one, she would be whole. Sam hated it when Integra was. Sam drifted off into a fitful sleep that including strange dreams.

Next Morning at the Hunter Lodge

Seras burst into Sam's room and began to shake awake, "Sam! Get up!" Sam just rolled over and put a pillow over her head, "Go away."

"Wake up! He's here!"

"That's nice!"

Seras pulled the cover off of Sam, who grumbled, "Give it…back."

"Sam, get up! The Sultan is here!"

"That's nice."

Seras sighed, "Forget it" and she walked out.

Why was the Sultan here? Wouldn't be rather be chumming it up with Integra? She was more….Oh crap!

"Oh shit!" Sam sat up and scrambled off the bed and out of the rooms. From downstairs, Seras and Faheem could Sam bumping into things while her brain was still trying to wake up. The Sultan called up to her, "Don't rush on account of me."

"Don't tell her that!" said Seras. "Sam will take forever in the shower."

The Sultan just laughed, "That is fine, there is no need to be hasty."

"Don't you have to stop at Sir Integra's home?"

"That is in two days; her head butler hates surprise guests."

Seras nodded, Walter, preferred to know who was coming so that he could prepare every minute detail perfectly. Surprise guests would get a surly butler attending to them and no one wanted that.

For once Sam didn't take her usual forty-five-minute shower, what a shame. How could she have forgotten that Seras had assigned both of them with tour guide dirty? As Sam finished lacing up her boots, she sighed; she still hadn't found a solution to her problem. If anyone was wise, no one would talk about Integra. Sam glanced over at the black Hunter's Cloak and considered not wearing it, but it was one way to identify herself as a Hunter if they were going to be dragging the Sultan around London, it would probably be a good idea to deter any would-be attackers.
When Sam finally reached downstairs, Seras had just finished making a hearty breakfast which after a quick greeting, Sam began shoveling food into her mouth.

"Sam, where are your manners?"

The assassin wanted to tell her to check in the toilet, but decided against it, preferring to continue eating. When breakfast was over the Sultan asked, "How was your sleep, Hunter McClaren?"

"Terrible and just call me Sam, I'm not into all the formal stuff."

"You had a terrible sleep?" asked Seras. "I wouldn't wake you up."

"Needed an extra hour or two. I'm thirsty. I know a great bar."

"We can't take the Sultan to a bar!"

"Why not?" said Faheem. "Sound like fun."

"Well…you're a ruler and the people there are well….touchy and drunk."

"Don't worry, Seras" said Sam with a grin. "It's not like we're taking him to a whore house."

"You're right."

"Of course, that for later."

"Sam!"

The tour of several bars went well, with Faheem gagging on a cup of ale, "How do you drink this?" he choked.

"It's easy," said Sam picking up the unfinished cup "Like this" and she drank the remaining contents. At least no one started any bar fights while the Hunters were there and Seras had to drag Sam out before she sat down at a table where a couple of people were playing cards.

Faheem enjoyed himself as he asked Sam and Seras questions about the places they went eager to learn more about them. Seras was proud to take him to the LMPD headquarters where he met with the police officers and the chief. They spent some time at the orphanage, where Faheem and Father Anderson talked about their respective religions. He would have stayed there all day if both Sam and Seras hadn't threatened to carry him out. The children had been fascinated by the Sultan and asked him questions about his clothes if genies were real and about the faraway country that he came from.

"I thought you and Father Anderson would argue about religion," said Seras. Faheem just laughed, "I have much respect for other people's religions. I find it incredible that there are so many kinds of faiths in the world. I encourage people to practice their religion"

"There are other religions in Turkey? I thought that everyone was Muslim" said Sam.

"You forget that I rule over an empire, more than one country and each has their religions. I do not try to convert them."

Seras smiled Faheem was such a wise man, no wonder he and Albrecht got along so well. The three visited many sights that piqued the Sultan's interest. Of course, where the Hunters went some people stared which made both Huntresses glad that Faheem didn't bring his whole retinue. He told them that his aide almost had a heart attack when the Sultan refused to take any guards with him saying that if trouble should arise that the Hunters would project him. The Sultan secretly hoped that there would be a witch attack, so he could see the Hunters in action, but there were none. If Sam and Seras knew what he wanted they would flip out, it would not bode well if the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire ended up dead in England. Integra had stopped one near war if Faheem ended up dead, she would not be able to stop the next Sultan from declaring war on England if they wanted to.

It was late when the trio was headed back to Hunter's Lodge with the anticipation of spiced cider and friendly conversation that would last into the night. They then heard a commotion in an alley. When the three went to investigate, they saw two men, one big and burly, the other thin, stand over a young woman whose clothes were town and was begging. Sam dismounted her horse. "You two idiots want to tell me what's going on?" The thin man said, "Mind your own business, bitch!" The woman cried out, "Hunter, please help!" The thin man took a closer look and recognized the cloak of a Hunter and it's the silver clasp, he gasped.

Sam grinned, "Would you like to rephrase your answer before I rearrange your face?"

"This woman is a prostitute who cost me a good deal of money…."

"And you think having her raped will get your money back?"

"It's not rape, it's her job."

"You're full of shit. You do know the penalty of rape is death, right?"

Both men paled, but the burly man decided to charge at Sam. The assassin unsheathed her daggers and ducked below the giant fist and as the man sailed by, she gave him a nasty cut on his back. The man roared in pain, but that was all he could do before Sam was in front of him and sliced off his favorite appendage, then she knocked him out. The thin man seeing his companion go down tried to run, but a dagger through his left knee sent him crashing to the ground, howling curses. Sam stalked towards him and grabbed him by the shirt, "Men like you are piles of shit that don't deserve to live. You are lucky that I'm in a good mood or I would gut you right here."

"Please…I'm sorry….I …."

However, Sam did not want to hear the meaningless pleas of a pitiful man so she did the same to him as she did to his friend and left him a squirming mess. Taking the money pouches from both men, she gave it to the woman, who thanked her. "Even prostitutes should have basic right!" the woman said as she left. It was then Sam realized her purpose, she would find ways to protect sex workers from the scum whose dicks she just cut off. She would make sure that girls and women get a say in their future and of their bodies. Sam would make sure that no woman was taken advantage of and would work towards getting stricter laws for rapists and sex offenders. Death was too easy; they would be made to suffer first. That was Sam's purpose.

Just by looking at her, Seras could tell that the old Sam was back. However, Faheem had paled at Sam's 'punishment' for the two men. "How are they to urinate?"

"They'll find a way" was Sam's answer. "Maybe through the butt or mouth."

"But don't you think that is a bit excessive? How about a hand or a foot?"

"You're a man so you couldn't understand the fear a woman feels especially when an uncouth man has made her his target," said Seras. "Some are too afraid to get help and they bear with the trauma of sexual assault or rape."

Faheem nodded now understanding that only a woman would know how to protect another woman.

"Besides I was lenient, imagine what Integra would have done. Don't imagine, I'll tell you."

Chapter End

Author's Note: Another cliffhanger. So another flashback to the past. Boy, do I feel sorry for the poor idiot who incurs Integra's wrath. Hope you enjoyed it. See ya in the next chapter.
