Lessons In Love: Chapter Sixty-Three: Something About Us (Part 2)
The younger Steve Rogers was a bit confused about how long he had been at the Kamar taj. He felt ...
...different.
His body felt much stronger than it did when he first received the serum. He was in thought about that as he grabbed a few of the things that he had in his room, then he formed a portal.
Bucky told him that he was in Brooklyn. Steve was unaware that it had been a couple months since his date with Tony.
The timing of everything seemed strange. Steve tried to let it go and he stepped through from one world to the next. He saw his old apartment building. It stood directly in front of him, and a car buzzed quickly beside his arm.
Steve stepped back and he gasped in a deep breath.
He was home, and the would-be-soldier was pretty scared. He licked on his lips for a moment, then he slowly crossed the street. Butterflies were flying all around his stomach as he made his way to the top.
Bucky told him that he got the money for the top two apartments. Steve swallowed his nerves and he stopped at the door that was supposed to belong to Bucky.
Steve's heart felt so swollen. It started feeling like it weighed a million pounds. He looked down at his hands and he tried to shake off all his nerves. Steve looked at his brand new notebook.
That helped. Bucky opened the door, and Steve abruptly dropped what he had to the floor. Bam. Just like that, he flipped his lid and dropped it all.
Bucky looked down at the notebook. It bounced off of Steve's shoe, and it broke open on the floor. The pages were empty, but Steve nervous face made him try to pick it up.
Steve felt stupid. He quickly closed his eyes just as Bucky handed it back to him.
"I keep forgetting that you are taller. I almost have to look up."
Almost. Bucky didn't want Steve getting taller than him. He saw that blonde smile and Bucky invited him in.
"There's not much to my apartment. It's been fixed up quite a bit since the 30s, but it still has the same feel to it."
The layouts of the apartments were the same. Bucky felt like talking about that sort of thing as Steve looked around his apartment. There was hardly anything in it.
Bucky had a thin table with two chairs. He also had a pile of stuff by the window. Steve could see the transmitter. It was next to a bunch of rolled up cigarettes, and empty bottles of alcohol.
Steve glanced over at Bucky. Seeing the transmitter made him feel...
"Wanna see your place? I tried to find you some stuff that was similar."
Bucky didn't care about what Steve saw. Bucky had developed a few habits over the years. He liked cigarettes and booze. He wasn't going to let some blondie tell him what to do.
Steve kept looking at the space by the window. He quickly snapped his focus toward Bucky and he followed after him. They crossed the hall and Bucky unlocked Steve's apartment door.
That blonde's heart swelled up even more when he walked in. Memories of his mother hit him like a ton of bricks. His eyes wandered the space, and they stopped on a brown couch.
"I found one. Looks pretty close huh?"
Bucky had moved in a couch that looked like the one that used to be in that same spot. Steve closed his eyes for a moment and he thought about the last time they were back in the 30s.
He kissed Bucky on that couch, and the blonde had a hard time forgetting about it. He glanced at his friend, and a gentle smile formed.
"Thank you, Bucky. I'll start working and pay.."
"Nah. You don't owe me anything Steve."
Bucky would not be accepting anything. He cut all of that off and the brunette sat down on the couch. He looked up at Steve.
A memory or two started crossing Bucky's mind. He remembered something about the couch as he looked up at Steve.
"So, how's your unruly brunette? Does Tony miss me?"
Bucky's grin was mischievous. He kept staring up at Steve, but he knew what was buzzing around beneath that blonde head. Steve's face was rosy, and Bucky wasn't stupid.
"He's.."
Steve had to stop talking. He decided to distract himself and look in his old bedroom. He always liked to hide in there when he'd get flustered or..
Steve remembered everything that he felt. He opened the bedroom door.
"It's not furnished yet. I was gunna get you a bed.."
Bucky ran out of time. He watched Steve return to the room. The blonde set the notebook down on the arm of the couch. He hesitated for a moment, but he slowly sat down beside Bucky.
The couch was almost the same. Steve couldn't believe that Bucky found something that similar. He had slept on the couch a bunch of times.
Steve was quiet. He stared at Bucky for a long while. Why, the couch? Bucky could have gotten a card table, or a bed. Steve swallowed slowly, because Bucky sat a little closer to him.
They revisited that kiss. Bucky decided to pick up whatever was going on between them in 1937. It all felt the same, except Steve's body. Bucky pulled him in, and that blonde was eager for it.
He liked what Bucky did to him. It felt like he became a different person when he was around Bucky. Steve wanted him, and he gave into that advance pretty quickly. The kiss began to deepen, and the blonde told himself that he meant what he wrote in his letter to Tony.
That letter hadn't been read at the moment. It was in the front pocket of Tony's faded jeans. Tony was in Stephen's shiny black car.
Victor was in the backseat, and they were on their way from Nebraska to California. Stephen mentioned that his car was left un-disturbed. It was parked by the hotel, but it wasn't towed or messed with.
Tony just tried to find some music. They were going to be cruising together for a long while. Music was a necessity.
"I don't think any time has passed outside the Kamar taj. We've been there for four months, but everything outside it is the same."
Stephen was still stuck on that. Tony gave him a smirk. He thought that Stephen looked cute when he was thinking about silly stuff. Tony kept looking at him every-so-often and he rejoiced when he found a good song. Victor's eyes kept glancing back and forth between the two of them.
He wondered why his brother wanted to drive all the way to California. They were supposed to go to New York, and they all knew how to teleport. Victor wanted to remind him that they had just learned a bunch of cool stuff.
But... Stephen clearly wanted to, road trip? With Tony? From where Victor was sitting, that intention was very clear.
Victor thought it was weird. His brother had acted weird like that only one other time. Victor decided to keep quiet in the backseat. Those two were very busy over there.
Tony was navigating the radio and helping Stephen plan the trip. Victor just sat back and observed the show.
They decided to travel out of Nebraska. The two of them planned to journey on the I-70 for a few hours, then they'd stop for the night at a hotel in Colorado.
So, all of the wonderful things were decided, and off they went.
