Robby pov

We spend the next two days preparing for the grounders to retaliate for the bridge. Bellamy tells me to go relieve Monroe from first watch. I walk up to Clarke and Bellamy after I relieve Monroe.

"What's going on?" I ask.

"Clarke's worried about the grounders," Bellamy answers.

"Shouldn't we all be?" I reply.

"Jasper thinks he can cook up some more gunpowder if he gets some sulfur. And Raven says she can turn those into land mines. So be careful where you step," Bellamy says gruffly.

"Ha, funny," Clarke says lightheartedly.

"No offense, but you suck at humor," I retort lightheartedly.

"We've got you for that," he jabs at me.

He sighs and says "what I really need is a thousand of her tin can bombs that I can roll in to their village and blow those grounders to hell."

Clarke looks taken aback by Bellamy's dark statement.

"That's what they want to do to us," Bellamy says defensively.

"Well technically we'd have to blow them down, not up, in order to blow them to hell," I say shrugging and mentally punching myself for the terrible joke.

"Like I said, we're good on humor," Bellamy says rolling his eyes with a dirty look.

"I can't believe we survived a hundred years just so we could slaughter each other

"Any word from the ark?" Bellamy asks trying to change the subject.

"Radio silence," Clarke answers sadly.

"Finally ran out of air," I say looking down.

"Maybe our parents were lucky. Being on the exodus ship. At least it was quick," Clarke says looking at me.

"Maybe," I say quietly.

"No ones coming down to save us," Clarke says helplessly.

"I'm gonna help out Octavia and Murphy in the smoke house," I say to Bellamy.

"No, help Clarke and I monitor everyone. Make sure everyone's pulling their weight," Bellamy says.

"Authoritarian is more your thing," I shrug.

"Bellamy it's fine. Plus Robby can keep an eye on Murphy in the chop house and make sure he's truly on our side," Clarke suggests.

I look at her with gratitude and she winks at me. She knows I don't give two shits about Murphy and I just want to help Octavia do the dirty work. I depart for the smoke house and walk inside to see Octavia, Del, and Murphy working the meat portions of our food.

"Let's get this party smokin," Del says in a cheery tone.

I see him toss more logs on the fire, but it's growing to big.

"You don't want the fire too big. Go get some wet leaves to take it down a notch," I instruct walking in.

"Oh so you give orders now Kane?" Del says trying to size me up.

"Actually, yes I do, Bellamy asked me to monitor progress and to stop people like you from screwing things up," I say in a challenging voice.

"So ur Bellamy's bitch now. What your gonna get on your knees for him just like you do that grounder. Didn't know you swung that way Kane. I guess one Blake isn't enough," he says smugly.

"Del he's right the fire is growing too big," Octavia says ignoring his last remark.

Clarke says in order to help run things I need to keep my temper under control so i take deep breaths to stop myself from throwing him in the fire.

"Oh so now your giving me orders too? Grounder pounder? I bet you, Kane, and that grounder got quite busy. Well for my threesomes I prefer two chicks, but I don't judge," Del says smugly.

I grab Del, by the collar, twist his arm behind his back, and hold him over the fire. He winces as the flames inch closer to his face. Murphy walks in a second later.

"They're right. A hot fire isn't gonna preserve the meat as well," Murphy says going to help Octavia.

"You can't take the heat, get out of the smokehouse. You should be kissing our asses for being allowed back in this camp," Del hisses as I hold him over the growing flames.

"Yeah good plan," I hiss as I lower him to where his face touches the top of the fire.

"Stop please I'm sorry!" He yells as the skin on his face starts to turn red.

I wasn't gonna hurt him I was just gonna scare him.

"Yeah that's what I thought," I say as I throw him out of the smoke house.

"Go sort scrap, shithead," I order.

"O-Okay," he says looking at me bitterly, but with fear.

"Your brother couldn't get you a better job? I would think anything would be better than working in the meat furnace," Murphy says in a somewhat friendly tone.

"Oh probably. That just means someone else would have to do it," Octavia says ripping her knife out of a filet.

"What are you doing here Robby? I thought you were Bellamy's right hand man," Murphy says looking at me.

"I'd say more left. Right hand goes to Clarke," I say jokingly and start helping Octavia clean the animals.

Murphy chuckles quietly and moves to help us.

"Aww how nice. Robby Kane getting in the trenches," Octavia digs smirking at me.

"Oh ya know, just thought I'd monitor yalls progress," I say making quotes with my fingers.

"I wanna talk about you for a minute," I say to Murphy.

"Oh? You think I'm interesting?" Murphy says faking being flattered.

"Well anyone who gets left out to die, then tortured for a month has quite a story to tell," I say shrugging.

"And I'm trying to distract myself from the stench of this thing's guts," I say ripping out the entrails of a deer and tossing them in our makeshift gut bucket.

"Alright fine. Story time," Murphy says smirking.

Before he can start talking the fire reaches the wall and spreads quickly around the smokehouse. The smoke makes us cough.

"Shit fire!" I yell.

"How do we put it out?!" Murphy yells dumbly while slapping the flames with the skin of a dead beast.

"We don't dipshit! We get the hell out!" I say through coughs.

I grab Octavia who has doubled over and started coughing. I grab Murphy's sleeve and pull him towards the exit which is blocked by flames. I let go of Murphy and scoop as many slabs of meat as I can carry.

"Jump!" I yell.

I grab Octavia and pull us quickly through the flames and Murphy comes out a second later. We sit on the ground gasping, coughing, and wheezing.

"Fire!" People are yelling around us.

"Are you okay?" Bellamy asks frantically as he tilts Octavia's chin to look at him.

"Yeah," Octavia wheezes and coughs.

I pat her back to help with the coughing.

"I told Del it was too much!" I say hoping Bellamy won't blame me.

Bellamy sighs angrily.

First day on the job and I ardy fucked up. Wonderful!

"This is all your fault," Murphy says with anger and he charges Del and socks him in the face.

"WE TOLD YOU IT WAS TOO MUCH WOOD!" Murphy yells punching him again.

"Get the hell away from me," Del says trying to push Murphy away.

Bellamy runs over and pulls them apart.

"Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey! Stop! Save it for the grounders!" Bellamy yells finally wrenching them apart.

"Bell, now what the hell are we gonna do?! That was all the food!" Octavia yells scared.

Bellamy looks around trying to come up with something, but he falls short. I honestly have no idea either. We both look at Clarke who is silent as well. We just sit there and watch it burn. Finally I suggest the best thing I can come up with.

"Let it burn! Then if there's anything left, we salvage it!" I announce.

They shrug and some roll their eyes. It was a stupid idea, but no one can come up with anything else.

We wait for the fire to go out. Then I go over to Bellamy who is kneeling next to a burnt and filthy rack of ribs.

"Dude I'm sorry," I say.

"What happened?" he asks.

"Del kept feeding the fire. We told him to stop, but he wouldn't listen," I answer honestly.

"What did you do about it?" Bellamy asks.

"He started throwing jabs at O and I so I decided to take a page out of your authoritarian book and put the fear of God into him," I answer.

"Although, your intimidation tactics never really worked on me," I say shrugging.

"Oh really. I'm pretty sure they worked at some point," he says defensively.

"I know. I just like to get you going," I say smirking, but trying to get him to chill.

"Fucking Del. Shoulda tossed his ass into the fire," I say angrily.

"That explains the nasty burn on his head. Guy had it coming," Bellamy says.

"He kept tossing logs into the fire because Octavia told him not to," I say honestly.

"Murphy said the same thing," Bellamy says sighing.

"And we believe Murphy?" Clarke says walking up to us.

"I do. Yeah," Bellamy says with confidence.

"I do to. Plus, I was there," I say to Clarke.

"We have some wild onions and nuts in the dropship. That's only enough to last us one or two weeks. What's left here?" Clarke asks shaking her head.

"Nothing, it all burned," Bellamy says.

"I saved one back strap of deer and a few slabs of meat, but that's enough for tonight's dinner, that's it," I say helplessly.

"Then we hunt," Clarke concludes.

"Anyone we can spare goes," Clarke says.

She starts to walk away when Bellamy grabs her arm.

"With the whole grounder army out there?" Bellamy says in disapproval.

"We can't defend ourselves if we're starving," Clarke replies.

"Ok then. We go in groups of three. One gunner for grounders only. We don't have enough bullets to waste on animals. As for the hunters, they'll take the spears and knives," I say to Bellamy and Clarke.

"Good plan," Bellamy agrees.

"Tell em the plan. Your the boss," I say patting Bellamy on the shoulder

Bellamy announces the course of action I proposed and we decide to move out.

"Everyone also take a tracker alongside your hunters and gunners! Should be a no brainer!" I announce following Bellamy's announcement of the instructions.

I don't know who I want in my group. I consider asking Finn, Raven, or Octavia, but I'm not so sure after Raven ended it officially with Finn two days ago and Bellamy wants Octavia to stay. Before I do anything, Clarke walks up to me.

"Wanna be in a group?" Clarke asks awkwardly.

"Funny how things have changed. I'm your go to friend now, ironic," I say jokingly.

"Also yeah sure," I follow up.

"Earth is crazy," Clarke says with a rare smile.

"I'll be our gunner," I volunteer.

"We need a tracker," I say.

My first thought is Finn, but Clarke would definitely say no.

"Hey, Clarke," a kid named Myles calls out.

He was one of my prime victims on the ark for his habit of fidgeting and awkward, annoying personality. However, the most I did to him were wedgies or pulling out his chair before he would sit down. The big pranks were assigned to Clarke and Wells.

"You alone?" He asks nervously.

"No Measles, she ardy has a gunner, get lost," I say holding up my gun.

He scowls at me.

"No, it's fine, Robby can be our tracker," Clarke says giving me a warning look, but trying to hide her amusement.

I roll my eyes and sigh angrily.

"I'll get some gear," Clarke says.

"So uh I guess uh, your in charge now huh Robby," Myles says trying to ease the awkwardness.

"Yeah Measles, just stay quiet, alright. And try not to piss yourself, again" I say tossing him my gun.

"Dude what's your problem, why are you such a jerk? That was like eight years ago," he says getting embarrassed.

"Look man, just, quit being so annoying and I'll stop fucking with you. Okay Myles," I say putting emphasis on his real name because I feel bad now.

He scowls at me.

"Whatever man. Screw you," he says bitterly and shoves my gun into my chest.

"I'm sorry," I say.

"Back off asshole," he says.

"Seriously," Clarke says in disbelief.

"Well we need a new tracker now," I say trying to change the subject.

"Luckily we found one," Clarke says annoyed.

"Finn, your in luck. A spot just opened up," Clarke says irritably.

"Great," he says awkwardly.

(This is gonna be a long trip)

Now I kinda want Myles to come along.

I see Myles with his shoulders slumped.

"Hey Myles," I say walking up to him.

"What now?" He says bitterly.

"We probably will need another gunner. Plus, your a much better shot than me." I say in an encouraging tone handing him the my gun.

"Alright," he shrugs.

"Hey gang, were wasting daylight. Finn, you joining the band?" Myles says as we walk up to Clarke and Finn.

Now I immediately regret inviting him to tag along. I cringe internally at his words.

"Sure," Finn says in a weirded out tone.

"Here I'll be the hunter. Lincoln taught me a thing or two about weapons," I say to Clarke pointing to the sword sheathed on my belt and the spear she won't hand me.

"Use your sword, I'll take this," she says.

"I haven't gotten to hang with you guys much. Hey, do even you know how I got arrested on the ark?!" Myles says excitedly.

"What did I say about being quiet?" I say annoyed.

"Cmon Rob, leave him alone," Finn says nonchalantly, but I can tell he agrees with me.

"Oh just wait till I tell y'all how," Myles says excitedly.

"Dying to hear about it," Finn says cringing and looking at Clarke and I with an uncomfortable expression.
