Chapter 1

Paul and Bella sat on opposite sides of the fire as Old Quil instructed them to drink the tea. Paul quickly drank his without question. Bella hesitantly took a sip of her own and made a face before plugging her nose and downing it in one gulp. It was only a matter of time before the tea would take effect and their journey would begin, Old Quil thought to himself. The elder watched and waited; he was prepared to stay with the two until they were both well into the spirit journey together.

A dry chuckle left the Elder's lips as he watched over the two and a prayer was offered up as he threw sweetgrass and tobacco onto the fire, as an offering.

"Taha Aki, watch over these two as they see what I have been shown...the wrong will be righted after they come back from seeing each past life they have had with one another."

His gaze shifted to the skies as the cry of an eagle sounded above, carrying his prayer to the heavens.

Life 1: Ancient Egypt

It was not just any ordinary day for the young priestess, Chione was to appear before the Pharaoh Tutankhamun and dance for him. He favored her, as he often sought the temple she resided in. Others believed they were lovers, but little did they know, both just enjoyed one another's company. It was a lonely life to be in high positions and they both understood the weight of their destinies. It was great comfort for them to find another who understood the paths that their lives took.

Chione took a deep breath before she moved into the private bedroom of Tut's sanctuary. She took to calling him Tut, his full name being such a mouthful. Her lightly accented voice came out like a whisper as she came to stand before him.

"Tut, how are you feeling today?"

She regarded his appearance with desperation for her friend, knowing these past couple of moon cycles that he had not been feeling well. It was a secret that they fought to keep contained, for if a rival of his was to find out, they would strike and try to overthrow the kingdom.

It was a fear that Chione often shared with King Tut. Not many knew this about the priestess, but she was far more than a dancer; she received visions of things to come. It was a heavy burden, but she kept it well hidden. Her only confidant was the Pharaoh himself.

King Tut could barely get a word out, his illness was taking its toll this day. His once strong voice rasped out to her.

"Chione..I fear it is the end for me. I wanted to tell you this before my time comes to an end."

His tone trembled as the words tumbled out with emotion. "It was you; it has and will always be you, Chione. You have and will always have my heart."

The words were final as King Tut shuddered with one last breath before life left his body. Chione fell to his side and wept, for her friend and for the declaration of love that both had left unsaid until it was too late. Her secret beloved was gone and she had no idea that there was a witness to the private last words that had been said.

It was pure jealousy that caused Pharaoh's wife to act. Ankhesenamun knew of the friendship between her King and the priestess, but did not approve. It was a blow to her heart to know that the Pharaoh had loved another more than her.

Chione, lost in her grief and oblivious to the threat against her life, never felt the blow dealt by the knife the jealous Queen brandished. It struck deep and pierced Chione's heart. She had time only to gasp once before she took her last breath, the two tragic lovers together at last in death.
