Luan couldn't sleep. She was still thinking about the night of the Chortle Portal performance, when Lincoln, no, all of her siblings, had gotten her back into comedy. She had given up comedy because she overheard that her siblings didn't find her funny, just annoying.
Luan loved comedy. Ever since she was young, she wanted to be a comedian. However, there is only one thing she loved more than comedy: her family. If her family was hurt by her comedy, she felt obligated to give it up, as hard as that might be. As Luan lay awake, she wondered if her siblings had really wanted her back into comedy. Maybe they just did it for her. She thought about how she could go overboard with her pranks, how she would tell jokes non-stop, and of course, April Fool's Day. Even her puns often earned nothing more than a groan. Maybe she really was just annoying.
Then her thoughts turned to how she got into comedy in the first place, making a young Lincoln laugh. She remembered the times her comedy had earned a genuine laugh, or even a smile. Maybe that was worth it to her family. Or maybe she was annoying, but her family didn't care. Maybe they just liked seeing her happy. Wouldn't that be genuine too? As Luan's thoughts took a positive turn, she slowly drifted to sleep.
Little did she know that her siblings were also thinking of the day's events. They were thinking about the good that came with the bad. They were thinking about all the times Luan made them laugh. Most importantly, they were thinking about how relieved they were to have the old Luan back. The happy Luan that would always smile, that would always be cheerful, that would always laugh, was back.
I actually teared up a bit writing this.
Fun fact: this is the first chapter with no dialogue. It won't be the last.
Up next: my favorite Season 2 episode, Tricked
