thanks for the reviews, I really appreciate it all the time, you give me muse and I'm glad I get to share this story with everyone. Website was acting weird, posted this chapter twice but it (and I) messed up again, so I sort of combined twoish chapters together, fifth times the charm maybe? because third time was an epic fail
"Do you mind if I come in?" Paddy asked Maura who was still standing in the doorway.
"I um... sure," she stepped to the side to let him in. "Wh-what are you doing here? How are you here?" Maura asked as she was confused as to why Jane seemed to know he was going to show up.
"Jane called me the night before your wedding, she wanted to get a good wedding present for you, not just surprising you with a trip to Paris. She really loves you, you know? She already knew that I was alive, I started emailing her about the time I started emailing you. I would have told you, but she was hard trying to make arrangements for us to see each other again one day," Paddy hung up his jacket and took off the hat he was wearing. "She was right, you definitely would be surprised. I hope you aren't upset."
Maura looked between her birth father and Jane, "Can't you get in trouble for being in communication with him?"
Jane nodded, "Yeah probably, but apparently we have a mutual friend, he makes sure your dad stays out of trouble and that his communication with me and you stay on the downlow. Plus it's hard to forget that he almost died just to help me save your life. I knew how much you have missed him and well I would do absolutely anything to make you happy, even if it meant breaking a couple of rules. You're worth it."
Paddy smiled at their interaction, "I even had to get some face work done, but getting around is easy when you are proclaimed dead and people stop looking for you."
"I don't exactly approve of what he did, but he's your family and I can tell how much he has changed and how much he loves you," Jane stepped closer to the two of them and stretched out her hand to shake his. "I have to put my job aside sometimes, but if he breaks my trust he knows what I'm willing to do."
"I-I don't know what to say, this is totally unexpected. I'm sorry I hid that I knew Paddy was alive," Maura rested her hand on Jane's shoulder.
"I understand why you hid it Maura, you wanted to protect him. I sort of had a feeling when he sent you that postcard and you thought there was a possibility of him being alive. I have amazing detective and observation skills," she smiled at her wife.
"Well, I just wanted to drop by to say hello, don't want to take up too much of your evening. But Jane made plans for us to have brunch in a cafe for breakfast across the street before I depart in the afternoon," Paddy told Maura before she pulled him into a hug.
"It is really good to see you again."
"It's great to see you Maura, you look well and very happy. I don't know how many times I've thanked Jane for how she's been treating you," Paddy pulled back and rested his hand on Maura's cheek. "I am still so very proud of you, oh and before I forget my new assumed name is John, just keep that in mind while we're in a public place. You don't know how suspicious people look when someone calls me Paddy."
Maura nodded, tears glistening in her eyes, "I'll keep that in mind."
Paddy pulled away and looked at Jane, "You're doing so well with my Maura, I'm glad to call you my daughter as well," he told her before putting his hat and jacket back on. "I'll see you ladies in the morning. Enjoy your evening," Paddy tipped his hat before leaving the hotel room.
"I can't believe that you put this together Jane," Maura turned to her wife after there was silence.
Jane placed her hands on Maura's hips, "I knew how much you have missed him and I just thought you guys should get a chance to see each other. I hope you are okay with this surprise."
"Knowing that me and my happiness come before the rules of your job just shows how much you love me," she leaned up pressing a kiss against Jane's cheek. "I am so lucky to have you in my life."
"You will always come first Maura, I hope that you never forget that," Jane held her close. "I think we're both equally lucky," she pressed a kiss against Maura's collarbone. "I think it's a good time to enjoy those strawberries and chocolate, you said the wine was good right?" she pulled away and handed Maura her glass, lifting hers up as well. "To us."
"To us," Maura clinked her glass with Jane's before they both took a sip, Jane moaned.
"Mmm, that is delicious," Jane went to sit down, dipping a strawberry in chocolate, Maura sat down next to Jane. Jane lifted the strawberry to Maura's lips, "Here you go."
Maura smirked, holding Jane's hand as she took a bite of the strawberry. "Mmm, that's pretty tasty," she smiled, before feeding Jane the other bite.
"You know what you're right about that," Jane smiled, before taking another strawberry. They took turns feeding each other until they noticed that all of the strawberries were gone.
Maura had got started on her night routine getting ready for bed, Jane stood next to her in the bathroom as they both brushed their teeth. "So how long did it take for you to arrange Paddy to meet us here?"
"Well he was already in Europe when I called him the day before yesterday, this friend of his has a private jet and that's how he got here. We talked some a bit before our wedding to get everything arranged, it really was a spur of the moment kind of thing. I have pretty great ideas when I'm drunk off my ass," Jane explained and Maura just looked at Jane with warm eyes.
"Even though it was a drunken thought I appreciate you going through with it. There was this emptiness inside me I've been having since the incident, seeing him tonight kind of made me feel really whole again, you know what I mean?"
"I completely understand, especially with your luck in the family department, I'm glad you are able to feel whole," Jane rinsed with mouthwash before she took Maura's hand once they were done in the bathroom.
Maura slipped in the bed, underneath the covers, and Jane followed suit. "You know I think you were right about this time change messing up our sleeping schedule. I feel more refreshed than I did an hour ago," she ran a finger along Jane's arm.
"You know that there's always a solution for that," Jane tucked a strand of hair behind Maura's ear, speaking in a low tone, one that sent shivers down Maura's spine.
"Weren't you complaining that your lips got dry from all that kissing earlier?" she asked with a smirk.
"I wasn't really complaining, just stated the facts," Jane rested her hand on Maura's silk pajama covered hipbone. "Trust me I'm not worried about my lips being dry right now, in fact, I'm sure I'll be wet in no time," Jane winked, causing Maura to blush.
"Oh is that so? Maybe we should test that little theory of yours."
"I'm not sure it's a theory when it's a pretty well known fact. I wouldn't even consider it a hypothesis," Jane shrugged and Maura looked into her eyes.
"It's hot when you speak using scientific words, not to mention when you were speaking French," Maura took her hand from Jane's arm and let her hand slip in-between her own legs, pushing down her pajama bottoms and running her finger against her entrance beneath her panties. She closed her eyes and let out a breath.
Jane looked at Maura, raising a brow in amusement, "Oh, it gets you that hot you'd wanna touch yourself."
Maura opened her eyes and stared into Jane's, "Please keep it coming."
Jane smirked and kissed her cheek, "So that's how we're going to play tonight," she nipped at Maura's ear lobe before whispering in her ear, "Tu es la femme la plus séduisante que j'aie jamais vue."
Maura bit her bottom lip, pulling her hand away for a moment, "How many of those French statements you wrote in your book were romantic ones?"
"Only a few, nothing too sexual though, but honestly, your reaction to me speaking French made me glad I learned a few things," Jane spoke before Maura put her hand back on her core. "Although I'd rather be touching you myself."
"You can touch yourself too you know, it's not a crime," Maura smirked before letting out a moan as she stroked herself, trying to get herself wet before she used her fingers to fuck herself. "More Jane," she begged and Jane nodded.
"Tu es absolument à couper le souffle," she spoke before slipping her hand in her own underwear. "Tu me mets tellement humide," she closed her eyes, groaning at how quick Maura could turn her on, Jane stroked her entrance feeling herself twitch at the touch.
"Le sentiment est mutuel," Maura whispered and Jane groaned.
"Shit Maura," Jane licked her lips hissing as she slid two of her fingers inside her slick folds.
Maura continued running her fingers against her before doing the same as Jane, she tilted her head back as she slowly began pleasing herself, uttering moans of pure delight as Jane grunted at the pace of her own fingers. "Oh God," Maura groaned at the feeling of her own fingers inside of her. It's been a while since Maura had to please herself, it brought her back to when Jane admitted to pleasing herself all the time when she was hiding her feelings for her. The thought of Jane doing that urged Maura to start fucking herself faster with her fingers. "So... damn... close," Maura managed to groan out moments later, panting as she kept picking up the pace, Jane doing the same.
"Come with me babe," Jane groaned, fucking herself as hard and as fast as her hand would let her. She gripped the bedsheets as she felt herself clench around her fingers. "Oh shit..." she moaned out.
They both shouted out each other's names as the orgasms took over. Maura had to calm her breathing afterwards, she looked over at Jane who was panting slightly as she too had to calm her breathing.
After a few seconds and they got their hearts to stop racing Maura looked over to Jane and smiled. "God, we need to do that more often," she licked her lips.
"You took the words right out of my mouth," Jane smirked before pinning Maura down, kissing her as she rolled her hips against Maura's.
They continued their bouts of passion until they both ended up passing out in each other's arms.
Meanwhile back in Boston, Tommy was at work thinking about his time spent with Cailin. He didn't know why he felt so comfortable hanging out with her, she wasn't the type of person he would usually go for, but there was something about her that Tommy just couldn't get enough of and it got his mind off of Frost, well for the time being. If he thought about it they were kind of each other's rebounds, losing the people they cared about because of their own personal problems but it was a much needed distraction for both of them, even though they agreed that no one would find out about this.
Cailin had gone back to her mother's after Tommy had to leave for work, he dropped her off when they had decided to keep it between them, not sure if anything would happen again. Cailin knew it wasn't going to be the end of this, Tommy was unsure but he knew if she wanted him he wouldn't know if he could refuse. It wasn't anything sexual, they figured that might become too stressful eventually, just some making out and bonding over alcohol was comforting enough.
He was in his thoughts he didn't notice Frankie come into the Dirty Robber, thankfully lacking the presence of Frost. "Hey bro," Frankie greeted with a smile.
"What's got you with that shit eating grin? If you're here to gloat I don't want to hear it from you."
"No I'm not here to gloat, I'm not a complete ass, can't a man just smile for no reason?"
"Yeah a man can, but you can't," he wiped off the counter. "So what did you want?"
"A beer would be nice thanks," he spoke. Tommy slid Frankie a bottle of Jane's favorite beer. "I do have a message for you though, but I mean if you rather me not tell you."
He huffed, "What is it?"
"Lydia was asking about you, you know she told me that she didn't like how you seemed so upset earlier at the precinct. She wants to cheer you up," Frankie smirked.
"She's not my type Frankie, plus we been there and so has her and Pop. Lydia and I are not going to happen, trust me, she was going to marry our father, so why do you want me to entertain the thought of her. I don't need your help to find happiness. You got Frost and I'm fine being alone," Tommy snapped causing Frankie to retreat and frown.
"I just wanted to try and make it up to you since you, you know gave me your blessing to date Frost. Obviously you don't want me to help you out, so fine. I won't help anymore."
Tommy sighed, "I'm sorry alright, I guess I'm not taking this whole Frost thing so well. And I'm the one who made the decision to have us both move on, but it's only been six hours, I really don't need you trying to make me feel better by finding me dates. Can we just make a deal if we are going to manage this whole thing, neither of us mentions Frost. I would say we should go our own ways and not talk anymore, but we both know that that's what Frost had been worried about, us falling apart as brothers."
"Yeah you make a valid point. Even though we haven't really been the closest of siblings. But I guess we have to try at least work on it. I mean I already feel like we're losing Jane, soon she'll have a family of her own and then we're left with each other," Frankie gulped down his beer.
"How melodramatic of you," Tommy smirked. "Jane wouldn't be herself if she ignored her brothers, we're important to her, plus there's always those family dinners they insist on having. She isn't going anywhere she's also your boss now and she can never resist a good night at the Dirty Robber."
"I hope you're right and I think of her more as a supervisor than boss," Frankie relaxed a bit. "So I heard that Korsak is taking Ma to Niagara Falls. I'm glad he's making up to her the pain and loneliness that she has been feeling."
"Yeah he's a good man, just needed a little bit of a push. Ma deserves the best and I'm glad that she has him in her life, minus the fact that he knocked her up but we know he's not going anywhere."
"Tommy, they are in love, I don't consider Korsak as knocking up our mother."
"Of course you don't," Tommy shook his head and sighed at who had just entered the bar. "I should get back to work," Tommy went to go clean tables around the bar.
"Hey," Frost offered Tommy a look as he sat down next to Frankie at the bar. "Are you two doing alright?"
Frankie shrugged, "Yeah I guess so, as well as we can be. I wasn't expecting you to be here tonight. I thought you were busy on your case with Crowe."
"Well, I was, but he said he could handle it, we both know how arrogant he can be at times. Lieutenant sent me off, said I look like hell, can you believe that. And I figured it was too early to head home alone this early in the evening. I honestly didn't think I'd see Tommy here, I thought it was his night off," Frost looked over his shoulder to see Tommy vigorously cleaning a table that already looked clean.
"Well Korsak took my mother on a spur of a moment trip to Niagara Falls, I guess he listened to the advice you gave him about them getting away."
"Korsak told you I gave him advice? Of course he did," Frost shook his head. "He can't seem to keep a secret for anything these days."
"He seems to be getting a lot of Ma's bad habits. He's much nosier than he used to be," Frankie shook his head. "But at least he listens to our concerns, that's not such a bad habit to have."
"He just wants to really make this marriage work, and that's good he's not giving up so easily," Frost spoke, couldn't help but glance over at Tommy.
Frankie noticed the sad and distant look that Tommy and Frost shared. "Maybe being here isn't the best idea. You guys just sort of ended things not that long ago."
Frost broke his gaze with Tommy and turned back to Frankie, "Yeah, I suppose you're right. I am feeling a little uncomfortable, and I can tell the feeling is mutual on his behalf. I'll just see you at work tomorrow, okay?" he got up from the stool. "Goodnight Tommy," Frost gave Tommy one more look.
"Here, I'll walk you out," Frankie offered and Frost nodded as they left.
"I'm sorry, seeing him is harder than I thought that it would be," Frost sighed and Frankie rested his hand on his cheek, to let him look into his eyes.
"Hey you have nothing to be sorry for. We already promised that we wouldn't rush into anything, I know it's going to take some time, but I have all the patience in the world. You're worth that," Frankie smiled warmly at him.
"You sure know the right words to say Frankie," Frost smiled back. "Thanks for understanding and not getting upset."
"Of course, I can't get upset at you, it's just not possible," he couldn't help but press his lips firmly against Frost's as his hands rested on his tie. "Have a good evening, alright? I think I'm going to stay here a little bit longer."
Frost nodded, feeling his heart race, "I'll try, goodnight Frankie," he kissed his cheek before getting into his car, giving him a warm smile. "See you at work, let's hope Crowe isn't as annoying as he was today. I miss Jane already."
Frankie nodded, smirking at Frost, "You know me too, goodnight," he gave him one last kiss before Frost started his car and left. Frankie went back into the bar and Tommy just looked at him.
"Thanks for getting him to leave, I really don't think me seeing him for a while is such a good idea. I know you probably wanted to spend more time with him."
"We're taking things slow, if we got together officially right now both of us know it would just feel like we moved on too fast, and that's not something either of us want."
"You have all the damn patience in the world, I pride you on that, but it also irritates the shit out of me," Tommy couldn't help but smile at Frankie's will power. "So, did you want another beer?"
The morning had come pretty quickly for Jane and Maura. Jane had woken up first and just admired how peaceful Maura looked when she was sleeping and was completely content and happy. She ran a hand up and down her arm, just taking in this moment, a moment she had dreamed of for so long with the woman she was crazy in love with. They were going to meet up with Paddy within the hour for breakfast that he insisted earlier would be his treat.
Jane was glad that she could make this happen, let Maura see her father, not knowing how often they would be seeing each other. She pressed a soft lingering kiss against Maura's shoulder. Her hand moved from her arm to her stomach, Jane was not expecting Maura to grab her hand and looked up at her with a smile.
"And just what do you think you're doing?" Maura asked with an amused smile, as she lifted Jane's hand up to her lips, pressing a kiss on her palm.
"I just thought this wake up call was much better than any annoying alarm. You look so beautiful and peaceful this morning, and very content."
"That's because I am, there's no reason I shouldn't feel this way," Maura linked her fingers with Jane's. "I have the best wife and greatest friend I only ever dreamed of having, although I did always think I'd end up with a gentleman, but they were definitely lacking a certain something."
"Warmth, and the feeling of being around someone so comfortable, someone you just fit with so easily, with hardly any efforts," Jane smiled. "It just wasn't meant to be for either of us to be with a man and I'd say it worked out excellently, me and you, completely perfect for each other."
Maura nodded, kissing her softly, "You sure know how to woo me. You always seem to know what to say."
"I'm just good like that," Jane winked before continuing the kiss. "True love comes so naturally, we were just trying too hard in the past."
"Yeah just a bit too hard, guess we avoided our feelings for longer than we realized," Maura squeezed her fingers before sitting up in bed to stretch and run a hand through her hair. "I'm going to go freshen up so we can get ready to meet up with Paddy," she spoke and then looked at Jane. "You know I never thought I would ever say that."
"I never thought it wouldn't bother me to hear it," Jane moved to sit up and pressed a kiss to the side of Maura's head before she slipped out of bed. Jane leaned back, resting on her elbows, admiring her wife as she grabbed some clothes and disappeared into the bathroom. "I can't believe I'm going to actually have breakfast with Paddy Doyle, who would've thought," she gave her head a shake before getting out of bed and getting dressed for the day.
Soon the girls were ready and made their way across the street to the cafe, they immediately noticed Paddy there sitting at one of the outside tables on the patio. He noticed them as well standing up to greet them. Jane definitely wasn't expecting Paddy to hug her, she felt kind of weird about it, not usually liking to be hugged too much in the first place. Maura seemed to comfortably hug him, it also lasted longer than Jane's hug, but she was more than okay with that. They all sat down at the table, they were the only ones outside.
"So, how did you girls enjoy your evening?"
"It was great, no complaints here," Jane smiled, looking at Maura.
"The wine was definitely exquisite, I'm uncertain the last time I had a wine like that in Boston."
Paddy smirked at his daughter, "You know, since I've been travelling, everywhere has better wine than America."
"I don't think I would have taken you for a guy who enjoyed his wine," Jane looked at the older man.
Maura smirked at her wife, "I could say the same thing about you Jane."
"Well I definitely wasn't much of a wine drinker until I met you, there's a lot of things I didn't do before we met," Jane gave Maura a friendly nudge. "Your daughter is quite amazing, if I do say so myself, sir," she included, momentarily forgetting Paddy was there.
"That she is, I'm so grateful for you being in her life, I never have to worry about her too much, I mean except those instances she had been held hostage," he looked sadly at his daughter. "I'm glad that you are protected Maura. So, anyways, how about you girls look over the menu while I use the facilities then I'll go order for us. This place has impeccable service when I came here yesterday," he smiled before going inside.
"So, are you doing alright?" Maura asked as they looked at the menu.
"Considering who we're having breakfast with, I think I'm taking it rather well," Jane rubbed at her palms, "This place sure has a lot of good sounding pastries."
"I can tell he makes you feel a little uncomfortable," Maura bit her bottom lip.
"Well can you blame me? I can't help but remember when we almost had our falling out because of the whole Paddy situation over a year ago. It didn't really come back to me until seeing him here. It's definitely going to take some getting used to, but I know how much he means to you and you mean the world to me, so I mean hey, at least I'm making an effort," Jane smiled warmly, but Maura could sense the sadness in Jane's eyes.
Maura reached over to take her hand, "Jane sweetie, you have nothing to worry about, we made amends with that and now we're married, you're never going to have to experience life without me. Those were hard times, and I am so glad that we made it through it," Maura ran her finger against the scar on Jane's palm.
"I still can't believe I almost lost you," Jane sighed, "It's good knowing that you aren't going anywhere. I'd be so lost without you," she wiped her eyes with her free hand, unaware of her emotions until she had felt a warm tear roll down her face.
Maura rested her other hand on Jane's knee, "You got me for life now Jane, nothing can break us apart, not now, not ever," she whispered, leaning over to kiss Jane's cheek. "I promise. I'm not going anywhere."
Paddy had come back from the bathroom moments later, he seen the interaction between his daughter and Jane, it looked like a private moment so he waited a little bit before going back to their table. "Have you girls decided on what you wanted for breakfast?" he asked causing them to both look up.
They nodded, Jane decided on a coffee and a tarte tatin, deciding to try the best looking dessert. Maura had another idea, "Actually I haven't decided yet, I prefer to see the options in person to make a decision. If Jane doesn't mind me leaving her for a moment."
Maura deserved some alone time with her father, "Of course I don't mind at all, I'll just sit and enjoy the view," Jane smiled as they both went inside.
"So, is Jane doing okay? She seemed a little upset before I came back," Paddy asked as they stood in line waiting to order.
Maura looked up at Paddy and nodded, "She's doing fine, she is just trying to adjust. Work means a lot to her and well she might just be a little uncomfortable having a meal with you, but you can understand her reasoning I'm sure."
"Yeah I understand completely, given my history and her career it can be a little awkward. But she seems to do anything to make you happy. It's nice seeing a different side of Jane."
"It certainly has been a delight being with Jane, especially knowing she actually has a more relaxed side to her, she doesn't have to act so tough all the time. She's kind of like you in that aspect, it's nice seeing you both, you know, act more human," Maura offered him a smile. "So you have been staying out of trouble? You weren't just saying that on Jane's behalf?"
Paddy nodded, "I actually have been well behaved, I have been travelling a lot, haven't actually been in one place long enough to consider any place home. I would love more than anything to live in Boston again, but we both know that wouldn't be the best idea."
"Yeah, you know it would be great to see you for holidays and everything, but I know that won't be able to happen," Maura sighed, she honestly hated not having a father figure around, sure Korsak was more like a father than Paddy and her adoptive father, but Paddy was her family and it made her sad to think she would never have a conventional type of family, something she always longed for. Jane did help get rid of that longing most of the time, Jane was always thankful for her relationship with Maura, but she didn't think Jane actually how realized how much it truly meant to her. Maura was desperate to cling onto this relationship, she actually grew quite dependent on it if she was being honest with herself. Life without Jane would rattle her and she never wanted to find out what that was like. A life without Jane wasn't much of a life at all.
It was finally their turn to order, Paddy told the woman at the counter what him and Jane wanted and Maura decided on a croissant, tea and a cup of fresh fruit. "I also would like a to-go box of the macarons."
Paddy paid for the order in cash, the woman smiled at Paddy, "I'll bring everything out for you guys. It's nice to see you again today John. Do you plan to become a regular here?"
"I haven't decided on that yet, with a great service like this there's always a possibility," Paddy smiled back at her. Maura observed them and quite enjoyed the look on her father's face, she brought it up once they headed back outside.
"She was cute, you know she seemed a little excited to see you. It's a shame that you don't plan to be in Paris much longer. You two could hit it off," Maura gave Paddy her opinion as she sat down next to Jane.
"I'm sure she has much better options than a guy like me to be interested in, she wouldn't ever get to know the real me, but I guess that would be for the best. It is a pity that I plan to leave after our breakfast," Paddy sighed.
"I'm sorry that you won't be able to have a normal life," Maura felt bad for the man, sort of.
"It's all my fault, I just have to live with all my past mistakes," he shrugged, "No need to feel bad for me sweetheart, I'm sure Jane doesn't," he offered Jane a smile.
"People just have to deal with the consequences of their actions," she shrugged, "Some people just do rotten things because that's what they are. Not many rotten people have the balls to admit it though."
"Jane..." Maura couldn't help but frown at her choice of words.
"Maura, it's alright," Paddy reassured her. "She's just speaking the truth, I am a pretty rotten person," he could feel the tension at the table now. "Ah here comes our breakfast."
I kinda like this Frankie and Tommy's brothership they got going on, tense but normal in a way. And I really like this Jane/Maura/Paddy interactions, don't you? It's awkwardly pleasant. (awkward on Jane's part and pleasant on Maura's) until next time!
