Hey! I do have something to say at the end so pls give it a lil read, but until then ! Enjoy the new chapter!
Damon dragged my reluctant ass through the house, all the while ignoring Stefan calling for him to wait up.
"Take a walk, brother...unless you want to take a quick nap," Damon warned, the glare he sent Stefan cold.
The grip on my arm didn't give me much leeway, but rolling my eyes at the more dramatic brother's actions was something I could do. I turned back to Stefan, "It's fine just...go have a drink or something. We'll talk after."
Thing is, Stefan took a moment too long to hesitate and, well...
"For god sake, Damon!" I yelled, turning away from the temporary corpse on the floor. "Was that really necessary?"
Damon turned back to me, smirking though not looking amused. "Yes, I think it was. Made me feel better at least. Mind explaining what the hell you were doing underneath the table?"
Uncomfortably, whether that be because I'd been caught, was getting yelled at, or the fact that there was a dead Stefan lying on the ground with his neck snapped, hmm, I wasn't feeling too comfortable. I shrugged. "I was getting my memories back," I replied matter-of-factly, figuring the truth was probably a good option to go with.
"Oh right," he nodded condescendingly, "You mean doing the thing I asked you not to do, the thing being sleeping with my brother?"
"Please," I rolled my eyes, "It's not even half as bad as you're making it out to be."
"I mean, he and Elena have only been apart from what, not even a week? Moving in already?"
I seethed, "You know, you've barely spoken to me since the night you tortured Mason Lockwood, why are you so mad? I'm the one that should be mad!"
Damon glares, flinging his arms up, "I'm mad because my girl doesn't seem to find any issue with making my brother her cuddle buddy!"
"I needed my memories back!"
"No, you wanted them back."
I scoffed, "And that's such a bad thing, right?"
Damon sighs, running his hands through his hair in frustration. "You didn't even tell me..."
"Because I knew you would react like this!"
"No," he said, a humourless smile on his face. "You were afraid I was gonna stop you, right?" I didn't respond. "Right?"
I clenched my jaw. "Right," I bit out.
"Oh, what was that? What was I?"
I rolled my eyes, having enough of this.
I don't even make it past the door before Damon's in front of me again.
"Get out of my way," I say, keeping my eyes on his chest, not wanting to see his face.
"Why? Don't you wanna talk about all these new memories you just unlocked?" he asked, tilting his head down closer to my height, making me turn away. "Thought you and Stefan were going to have a little chit-chat, huh?"
"Well, Stefan is a little bit out of commission at the moment," I said, trying to step around him. He stepped back in line. "Can you move?"
"Come on, tell me, was Stefan the mystery man in your dreams?" he said mockingly, allowing me to step around him but not leaving my side. "Don't tell me it's officially over between him and Elena now, am I going to have to fight him?"
"Ew, please, shut up!" I cringed while putting my jacket on, the idea of doing anything like that with Stefan now quite sickening.
Even before unlocking those memories, I never saw Stefan like that, less so now that I did have these memories back from my past lives. The fact I knew Stefan in not just one life but two though...and now in a third...it was madness.
I didn't even get to see all of Stefan's memories but...he got to see mine, and he got to see Lexi again and just...
I took a heavy breath, just remembering that she wasn't here anymore.
Damon grabs a hold of my arm again, this time much gentler than before. "Wait, wait, wait..." he said, tilting my head up to look at him. "Look...are you okay?" I scoffed. "I know, stupid question but I know how shaken up you were last time you got some memories back..."
Shaking my head out his hand, I tilted my head down, leaning my forehead on his chest. He pulled me into a hug, rubbing a hand along my back.
"Why weren't you talking to me?" I asked, the question sounding small and all muffled having to go through his t-shirt.
I heard him sigh. "Don't change the subject."
"But you weren't...why?"
"Because," he sighed again, "Because I felt guilty. And I haven't truly felt that in a long time...and I hated it."
"Not even with Vicki?"
A pause. "Vicki...was a tragic, mess of a situation that I played a part in, but hardly felt totally responsible for. This, what happened with Mason, was all on me."
Slowly, I wrapped my arms around Damon's middle, closing my eyes leaning into him.
"I'm...glad he's alive," Damon continued, this topic clearly uncomfortable for him. "He wanted to die though, and I would have killed him...the curse of the moon, it must truly be something."
"I hope Tyler never has to go through it," I mumbled.
"Yeah, he'll be fine if you just stop stealing his fries."
"He steals mine first!"
"No excuse, his supernatural powers trump yours."
"But...I'm basically immortal," I realised.
And that's not something you want to realise so early on in the day.
"Now, we don't know that," Damon said, pulling back to see the probably blank look in my eyes. "...oh boy. I'm gonna get you a drink."
That's how I ended up with a drink in my hand at...I don't even know what time it is right now, still morning though!
Once Stefan was conscious, he also grabbed a drink and sat beside me on the sofa where we began to go through the everything that we had uncovered, mainly the fact that...
"You're a damn liar, you did know British people!"
"Skye, I swear even I didn't remember them until just there," Stefan said, rubbing the back of his neck, stiff from where he'd been lying on it. "Who the hell were they, though?"
"How did you get out of...whatever happened that night?" I asked, wondering if maybe they were still out there or if they faced a similar fate as mine.
He shrugged, eyes distant. "I don't remember...even now, what were their names again?"
"Rebekah and Niklaus Mikaelson," I replied, taking a sip from the drink Damon had poured me. "They...seemed pretty significant."
Stefan snorted, making me blush. "Yeah, significant is one way to describe - "
"Ah ah ah!"
I didn't need Damon overhearing anything too incriminating...I'd tell him later of course but this isn't how I want the convo to start, with me having to talk about a supposed past life past relationship.
Man, this was complicated.
"I also never knew - "
"Ah ah ah! Shut it! You knew nothing until an hour ago!"
Stefan laughed for a few seconds before a sad smile came over him. "It was quite nice you know, reliving the times with Lexi. I didn't realise you two were as close as you were..."
I shrugged, "She was amazing. And she really helped me after my brother's death."
A moment goes by before Stefan asks, "You okay?"
Again, I shrug. "I don't know why I feel like crying, you know?" I said, hearing my voice cracking. "It's not like it was recent or anything."
"It was recent though, for you right now, not even an hour ago," he said, placing a hand on my shoulder.
I appreciated the support, placing my hand on top of his and taking a deep breath.
"Can't believe you killed me..."
"Oh my god, for the hundredth time! I'm sorry!"
Bang!
"Stefan did what?!"
"Ah, shit."
Elena had said she wouldn't be going to the masquerade ball tonight, wanting to stay home with Jenna and make sure she was okay and settling into life at home with stitches. Which was good because, well, there's something we need to do tonight...
And Elena couldn't know about it.
Long story short, while Stefan and I were having a chat about past lives, about Lexi, about all the trouble she had managed to get us into and got us out of, Damon had called us in from the next room over.
The pair of us walked in, seeing a shaken looking Caroline sitting drinking what looked to be a mix of alcohol and blood. Yeah, don't think I'll be ordering that cocktail anytime soon.
"What happened?" Stefan asked.
"Go ahead," Damon said, nodding towards us. "Tell 'em what you told me."
"I saw Katherine today," Caroline started.
"Where?" Stefan asked instantly.
I sat beside Care, holding her hand for comfort. She squeezed back to stop shaking.
"At the Grill," Caroline replied. She shrugged, "I just stopped by to gawk and...because I...stalk Matt."
I raised an eyebrow at that. "Gurl."
"Skip the teen drama and get on with it."
"Damon!"
"So because I'm a dufus I had to pretend to go to the bathroom, and that's where she cornered me..." Caroline trailed off. "And she said I had to deliver you a message."
"What was the message?" Stefan asked.
"She wants the moonstone...or else she's going to paint the town red."
"Tell 'em the best bit," Damon said, making me feel like this wasn't going to be the best bit.
"Tonight, at the masquerade ball," Caroline said, finishing off the rest of her drink.
Stefan shook his head, beginning to pace. "She wants to do it in a public space, what we did with Mason threw her off."
"She's running scared," Damon said confidently, "What she did with Jenna was desperate, she's run out of tricks."
"Jenna got lucky," I said, not willing to believe we'll be so lucky a second time. "The next person might not be..."
"Skye's right, we can't underestimate her," Stefan said, thankfully agreeing with me.
Caroline sighed, "Can't we just give her the moonstone so she'll leave?"
"No," Damon scoffed, "We're not giving her what she wants. Katherine is getting jack shit from us!"
"Plus," I added, "If that moonstone is a part of that so-called Aztec curse involving Elena, it's probably best we keep a hold of it."
"Why do you not believe it's Aztec? You're not exactly a history buff."
"I just have a feeling, that's all..."
"Oh, a 'feeling' huh? How scientifically accurate of you."
"Can you guys knock it off?" Stefan asked, rolling his eyes.
Damon gave a smile, walking around the couch. "Here's the plan, I'm gonna go to the masquerade ball tonight, and I'm gonna kill her."
"You're not gonna kill her," Stefan said.
"Don't give me that goody-goody crap!"
"You're not gonna kill her," Stefan repeated calmly.
Damon raised an eyebrow as if to challenge him, and for a second I wondered if we were about to witness the brothers physically fighting, again. "Oh, really?"
And Stefan said something that kind of shocked me, all of us, just a little bit. "Because I am," he said confidently.
Damon seemed to like that response, the two of them nodding and exchanging grins.
I couldn't help but smile.
With the pair finally working together rather than on their own or against each other, Katherine was gonna be in for it...
This was almost fun, except for the fact we were planning someone's death.
God, this was weird.
Damon had called in Alaric to bring some vampire hunting weapons, Stefan had messaged Bonnie about bringing over her grimoire of spells, and I think he must have messaged Jeremy because he was here too now.
"I still don't get why we can't just tell Elena the plan," I shrugged while Alaric was setting out all of his gear.
"Because then she'll want to get involved," Damon said in a 'duh' tone.
"And it's too dangerous for her," Stefan added.
"And also because her and Katherine look exactly alike?" Caroline said, giving Stefan a 'duh' look.
He froze, realising that made more sense. "...that too."
Jeremy put his hand up, "She probably wouldn't want me helping either."
I shrugged, "Fair point."
Alaric then showed off some vampire stakes and how he used them, making the three vampires in the room very uncomfortable.
"What?" Alaric said, "You said you wanted to know how to kill a vampire."
As he was showing Damon how to attach the set of stakes to his forearm, I spotted Bonnie leaving already, Stefan following her. She seemed a bit spooked, and that's fair. We should be getting excited about being all glammed up instead of...this.
"Do you think I should message Tyler? Give him a heads up?" I asked Damon.
"I thought you said he didn't want to be involved," Alaric said.
I shrugged, "I know but this is such a big thing..."
"Call him," Damon decided, holding up the weapon attached to his arm and moving it around. "Get him to find us the perfect room to murder the bitch in."
I left the room to go phone Tyler up, going to start the conversation a little different to how Damon probably would have.
"Wait, you guys are planning to do what?"
...I mean, I still had to tell him the general plan.
I gave Tyler the quick version of the plan and asked if there was a room in that mansion of his that would suit our needs. I apologised for having to get him involved in all this but he seemed thankful to at least know something was going down tonight and not be kept in the dark.
He helped smooth over some bits of the plan, and eventually had to hang up so he could help his mom with some last-minute preparations. And also because I was sure my minutes had just about run out...
"Are you sure you don't want me there tonight?" Alaric asked us once we had gone over the plan for probably the fifth time, preparing to leave to go over to Elena's.
"No," Stefan said, arms crossed over his chest, convinced we won't need the vampire hunter to help take down a vampire tonight. "I need you to stay with Elena tonight, I don't want her to know about this. At least, not until it's all over."
"Okay, well, I'll make sure she doesn't leave my sight," Alaric nods.
"Alright," Stefan said, addressing the rest of us, "If anyone wants to back out, I'll understand."
I glanced at Caroline beside me on the sofa, to Jeremy standing at the side and to Bonnie who was probably the most nervous looking out of all of us.
"Yeah," Damon said, a little less caring when it came to people's feelings, "Cold feet, speak up now, I don't want something going wrong because someone chickens out." That's fair... "Caroline." That's not.
"Hey, I won't. She killed me, fairs fair," Caroline said, making me smile at her confidence. "As long as there are no werewolves running around..."
"I took care of Mason," Damon smirked, "Sent him back to Florida with his tail between his legs."
"Damon..." I sighed.
"As long as Tyler doesn't kill anyone he won't turn either," Jeremy piped up.
I mean, he's right, but that applies for more than just tonight. At least it isn't a full moon, so we're good either way.
Stefan glanced around the room before focusing on the witch of the group. "Bonnie? You with us?"
I glanced back at her, seeing how nervous she was, hands fidgeting and biting her lip.
"As long as no one gets hurt," she said.
"Except Katherine!" Damon piped up, looking far too happy to be planning a murder. "Tonight Katherine gets a stake through her heart."
All of us were determined to make sure this would happen. She'd been terrorising us for too long, hurting and injuring our own. Tonight we were gonna put a stop to it.
I could feel it in my gut, this wasn't going to be easy, no matter how prepared we were. She always had something up her sleeve, and something told me tonight wasn't going to be any different.
But we outnumbered her and had far more to lose than her.
Tonight...it was going down.
I left the boarding house to go to Caroline's to get ready for tonight. It'd already been such a busy day, getting two of my past life memories back and fighting and making up with Damon and then planning a murder.
We ordered in some pizza to eat while we got ready, jamming out to music as we did our makeup.
Caroline wore a red wrap dress with a single shoulder strap and a pair of black heels while I wore a black skate-style dress with a pair of red heels because we're cute like that. As much as I hate heels, these kinds of events do call for it, and I don't want to risk the mission just because my mom wants to drag me home to change my footwear.
I tied half my hair up, keeping it out of my face in case, for some reason, I managed to get into a fight. Caroline let me borrow a sparkly clip to dress it up more.
"So," she said in the middle of attaching it to my hair, "These...dreams you have are all from your past lives?"
"Not exactly," I replied, "I mean, the ones where I get to travel the seas with Keira Knightley as the pirate king aren't exactly real, no matter how much I wish they were..."
"...Skye."
"Right, sorry. But...yeah, it's weird but I can usually tell when a dream is actually a memory," I explained, fiddling with a strand of hair. "And it's...nice to finally have names for some of the people I've seen."
"How many people do you see?"
"Well, I mean, Damon and Stefan are two, if we count Lexi that's three," I said, counting out the names on my fingers, "Then there was Rebekah and Niklaus, that's five. Then there are two others I think, but I haven't got a name for either of them yet."
"Well that's seven so far," Caroline pointed. "But how far back do these memories actually go?"
I shrugged, "I don't know...I mean, the ones with Stefan were from the 20s at the earliest, but then the memories I got from Damon were from confederate wartime so that's like, what? 1860s?"
She whistled, "That's...a long time."
"Yeah, but there still wasn't anything to indicate that it all started then," I sighed, rubbing the back of my neck. "Unless something happened during that war that everyone just completely overlooked...which doesn't seem likely. Man, this sucks."
"I can see why you're so stressed."
"I wish tonight was just a normal dance..."
Caroline wrapped an arm over my shoulder, "Maybe the next one will be better...
"Why do I feel like you've jinxed it?"
"Come on, let's get going."
Arriving at the Lockwood manor and seeing just the sheer amount of everything going on, it was going to be just a tad difficult finding Katherine right off the bat. I mean, it's not like a flock of bats follows her everywhere, and even if they did I feel they'd get lost in everything that was going on.
There were dancers, there were fire eaters, fire throwers, a whole lot of fire for some reason. It was all pretty chaotic, and with everyone in some pretty extravagant masks, it was difficult to tell who was who.
Caroline and I split off, needing to be separate for this part of the plan to work.
We couldn't tell for sure what Katherine was going to do, but we couldn't appear to be out-numbering her until the moment we really needed to.
I went go find Tyler, messaging him that I'd arrived and demanded at least one round of shots for some of that liquid courage. He messaged back saying he was in his dad's old office, and that the whiskey was ready.
Whiskey, great. Didn't think this night could possibly get any worse.
"Just because you don't like it," Tyler said, rolling his eyes.
I cringed after swallowing the shot, "It's a good thing it's strong, or else it wouldn't be worth it."
"Right," he said, clapping his hands, "I think I owe you a dance."
I raised an eyebrow, placing a hand on my chest. "Tyler Lockwood, willingly asking to dance? How much have you had?"
Tyler rolled his eyes, putting a hand on my shoulder and pushing me out the door. "Haha, very funny. Let's go."
"You didn't answer my question about the drink..."
And I never did get an answer, but we did get in a little dance, making it dramatically more serious than other dance couples around it. It all came to an end real quick when Tyler tried to dip me and promptly dropping me on my back.
"God, you're such a dick."
"Not my fault you're heavy!"
He got a smack for that comment, and for dropping me on my ass.
We headed back into the main foyer, still brushing myself off when I saw the woman of the hour, Katherine herself, talking to Matt of all people.
I quickly realised that Matt was literally the only person in our friend group that didn't know anything about the supernatural community, and was the only person who didn't know what had been going on these past few weeks, and was completely unaware of how much danger he was right now.
I stick my arm out in front of Tyler, making him stop and give me a look. I point towards where Matt and Katherine were standing chatting, and it took a couple of seconds but eventually, that brain gets moving and you can see the dots connecting in his head.
"Oh!"
"Yeah," I nod, grabbing his arm. "Let's go!"
"What?!"
Off we go, Tyler looking only mildly terrified, making our way up to Matt and Katherine.
"Hey!" Tyler and I said in unison, both of us probably cringing at ourselves.
"Hey," Matt laughed, at least someone finding some joy at this moment.
"Mind if I steal him, Elena?" Tyler asks, wrapping an arm around Matt's shoulder.
Katherine nods her head once, "As long as I can steal Skye from you."
"Sounds like a good deal."
"..." I gave Tyler a look to which he shrugs. "You're mean today!"
Matt laughed, beginning to walk away with Tyler, "See you later, Skye!"
As the boys walked away, I shook my head before turning back to Katherine and smiled, almost forgetting I am practically throwing myself into the frypan. It's fine, we'll be fine, we're good.
"Hey," I said, starting off a conversation as many have started before and many will start again. "You look good."
Katherine smiled, twirling a strawberry in her hand, "Thanks, you too. You clean up good."
Not sure if that's a backhanded compliment or not, either way, I'll take it.
"So," she says, going on the move. "Are you aware of what's going on here tonight? I assume so..."
"Yeah," I reply, figuring we may as well be honest. "You're threatening the town, and all for some rock. There's a river full of them, ya know."
The amused hum, the slight turn of the lips, and the fact we were in the middle of a crowded room made me feel like I wasn't about to immediately get my throat ripped out.
Maybe later, if she has the time, who knows?
"Been up to anything else aside from completely your rock collection?"
"Oh, you know," Katherine shrugged, "Drowning puppies, burning down orphanages..."
"A regular Tuesday then."
"Thursday actually, Tuesdays I sort through my mail."
"Ah, of course, my bad."
"Easy mistake," she said, grabbing a napkin and wiping her hands. "Enough chitchat, let's get done to business."
If it were any other person, I may have replied with a lil something along the lines of "to defeat the Huns?" but well, I value my liver and I don't want to get sued. Instead, I go for "I'm not the one with the stone if that's what you're thinking."
"Mind telling me who does then?"
"One thing first..." I said, hoping my last chance of negotiation I'll have not be the thing that gets me killed tonight. "Is there any way I can get my memories from you, from my past life?"
Katherine rolled her eyes, "You're still on about that?"
I crossed my arms over my chest, "Wouldn't you be as well if you had memories that were...locked away?"
She sighs, turning to face me properly for the first, looking serious. Immediately I'm on edge. "Listen, Skye, if you know what's good for you, you'll be happy with what you've got," she warned. "But...if you need any other motivation to move on..."
Quickly, she grabbed my wrist in between her thumb and forefinger and squeezed.
And at that moment, flashes before my eyes of two girls laughing...flash to one crying, covered in blood...flash to cold nights...flash to...pain...flashes of blood, of dances, of excitement, of fangs, of blood, of terror, of darkness, of blood, of...
Thankfully the man, the myth, the legend himself Stefan Salvatore rolled up, saving me from...whatever the hell that was.
I think it's fair to say that the word discombobulated fits how I feel right now...
And slightly nauseous...
Rushing to the kitchen, hoping Mrs Lockwood would have directed others away from it and I could throw up in peace if I so had to.
Didn't realise I was being followed by the other Salvatore until the door opened for me.
"Hey, you're okay, what do you need?" Damon asked, rubbing a hand on my back. "Want me to get you some water?"
I nod my head and listen to him rummage around the kitchen. "Inexpensive glasses top left."
I hear the sound of glasses clinking, water from the fancy fridge going and then having the glasses in front of me. I thank him quickly before taking gulps of water, already feeling slightly better from it.
"What the hell happened?" Damon asked quietly.
"I dunno," I replied, "It felt horrible though."
Damon wrapped an arm around my shoulder, resting my head on his shoulders. "We'll get her for this, and for everything else she has done..."
The pair of our phones go off, it's a text from Stefan. She's left him which means she'll probably go looking for Caroline next.
"Aw, man."
"What?" I asked, wondering what was so wrong with the message.
"We've got a body to bury later," Damon sighed.
My heart dropped, another casualty. This is what we were trying to avoid, this is what we are trying to prevent.
I got on my tiptoes and give Damon a quick kiss on the cheek. "Go kick her ass."
"Mayday! Mayday! We have a problem!"
"Skye..."
"Mayday! Mayday! Elena is on the scene!"
Elena grabbed my wrist and yanked me back in a bush, making me yelp.
"Mayday! Mayday! I've been compromised!"
"Skye, what the hell is going on here?" Elena asked, not looking happy in the slightest.
Okay, Skye. Play. It. Cool.
"I don't know - "
"Skye."
Never mind. She's seen through it. We're screwed.
I smiled, clapping my hands. "So," I start, "You know how I love a good ole' masquerade, and how much I love a game of Cluedo..." The warning look told me enough to get on with it. "...and well, so, we thought why not make it a reality? We decided on the victim being Miss Pierce, in the drawing-room, with the stake."
There was a brief pause.
Elena blinked as the realisation hit. "You guys...are killing Katherine?"
"Congratulations! You win the point!"
"Skye! What the hell?" Elena cried, perhaps not ecstatic with this new information.
It's at that brilliantly timed moment that Bonnie and Jeremy walk around the corner. Thank goodness I won't be getting the full beat down of this lecture on my own. Safety in numbers and all that.
Very calmly, Jeremy of all people explains the plan to her, Bonnie and I adding in additional pieces of information which we feel he'd missed out, but overall he pretty much covered it.
As we thought, she was not happy.
"Alaric is never being put as the lookout ever again," I said, crossing my arms over my chest. "Too easily distractable."
"Again?" Uh oh. "What do you mean again?" Elena said, "This shouldn't even be happening now."
"Listen," Bonnie said, trying to calm her down. "Damon and Stefan are dealing with Katherine as we speak, in a couple of minutes this should all be over."
"Exactly," I agreed.
"But what if one of you got hurt, huh? And I didn't know about it until it was too late?" Elena said.
"Listen," I said, displaying my hands open in a shrugging position. "Our plan is perfectly safe, none of us are in any danger right now."
And at that brilliant moment, some higher being decided to prove me wrong.
Elena cried out in pain, her back arching as if she'd been shot. And then blood started trickling through her t-shirt. And I have never regretted words more.
Bonnie and I manage to catch her as she falls, holding onto her as she cries out in pain.
"What is it? What's wrong?" I panicked, looking around and then landing on Bonnie, hoping she would have some answers.
A moment goes by before Elena seems to be stuck in pain once more, crying out with none of us able to do anything.
Realisation flickers through Bonnie and she turns to Jeremy, "Katherine's linked herself to Elena, you have to stop them! Go!"
Jeremy takes off, as fast as a boy can go, pushing past other guests in order to reach them in time.
"It hurts," Elena wheezed, doubled-over in pain.
"I'm sorry, Elena, I can't break the spell," Bonnie apologise, looking like she was about to start crying herself. "Maybe I can take away some of the pain though."
I hold Elena's arm, wrapping a piece of cloth from a table at the side over the wound on her shoulder, holding down pressure to try and stop the bleeding.
I feel utterly powerless in this situation, only able to try and physically hold my friend together.
How far was Katherine willing to go for this damn rock?
Just as Jeremy was rushing back to check-in, a cut appears on Elena's hand, making her cry in pain. Bonnie stands, determined.
"Where are you going?" I asked, giving Elena another piece of cloth to hold in her fist. Hopefully, Mrs Lockwood won't notice a few torn sheets. Either way, we have bigger problems than her right now.
"I'm going to find the witch doing this," Bonnie said, turning to head back to the mansion. "Keep pressure on the wound!"
Jeremy nods and kneels in front of Elena, trying to hand her the old Gilbert ring, the ring that would bring a human back to life if they were wearing it.
For a split second, I wondered if that would work on me.
Elena refused the ring though, wanting to know her brother was at least going to be safe, which was understandable, I would have done the same thing with Kieron.
I'm so glad this event is no kids allowed.
Eventually though, Elena's breathing eases and we all realise that the wound on her shoulder is healing, the cut on her hand becoming more shallow until it's eventually a thin line.
Something had happened, none of us knew what, but Elena was okay and that was a heavy weight lifted from our shoulders.
I made sure she was okay before leaving her and Jeremy, heading back into the building to go to one of the upstairs bathrooms and clean the blood off my hands and find out what had happened.
I rush towards the room we had agreed upon and find Katherine on the ground, not moving. Although, no stake, no noticeable wound...
"Hey," Damon said, stepping over the threshold to greet me. "How's Elena?"
"She's fine, healing up nicely," I replied, looking over the mess of the room. Oh god... "What happened?"
"Well," Damon began, passing me a bin bag, and proceeded to explain what went down as we cleaned up. If anything was broke we chucked it into the bag, anything that wasn't supposed to be in the room was also chucked in the bag.
"So," I said once we had pretty much gotten the room back to the way it should be...more or less... "What're we gonna do with her?"
Damon shrugged, "Put her where she should have been all along..."
The tomb underneath the old church? Oh, this was some cruel justice.
This was something Damon insisted he had to do on his own, alongside burying a body, and so we agreed to part ways here. As I was leaving the bathroom after clearing off the blood from my hands, I bump headfirst into my mom.
Wow, I can't believe I managed to keep her out of everything that happened tonight.
"Hey," she smiled, holding her arms out to look at me. "Not bad, good choice of heel."
"It was all Caroline," I shrug modestly, giving credit where credit is due.
"Well, I figured that."
"Wow."
"Now, where is this date of yours?"
Oh god.
Yeah, Mom, he's currently burying a body and sticking his ex in a tomb, normal, regular guy so he is.
"He just left," I said instead, taking the safe option.
She sighed, "Shame, I was supposed to scare and remind him about the dinner next weekend."
Ah. That.
"You'll remind him, won't you?"
I nod my head, "Of course, wouldn't wanna miss it."
"Good," Mom says, "Right, are you coming home with me? I'll only be a few, Carol has had a situation to clean up in the upstairs study..."
That. Doesn't sound good.
"A situation?" I ask.
She sighs, placing a hand on my arm. "It seems a girl from your school smacked her head, and she's died. Tyler, Matt and Caroline were all there, give one of them a message and see if they're okay."
My heart dropped into my stomach as she walked away.
A girl dead the same night Katherine was trying to get the stone back? Only days after Mason skipped town?
No...no, please, no.
I rush up the other staircase towards the mayor's old study, hoping maybe it had been some freak accident, as awful as that may sound.
Seeing Caroline comforting a wide-eyed Tyler on the sofa though...
The pair look up as I come through the double doors, taking a look around the room in disarray.
"What happened?" I asked, hoping one of them was going to prove me wrong.
Caroline looks down, and Tyler looks like he's about to break down.
I take a seat on the other side of Tyler, wrapping an arm around him.
God, with everything going on I can't believe we didn't think Tyler was at risk, and now he had the curse of a lifetime.
Sure, we may have taken Katherine down and gotten full possession of the moonstone, but not without casualties...
I closed my eyes, leaning my head on Tyler's shoulder. What a horrible night.

flawsome4ever - I hope you enjoyed this chapter! Thank you for consistent reviewing over the last few chapters! Has really helped me with getting out some regular updates!
AndAllTheSaintsAreMadeOfGold - Ah! Thank you for your review! I'm glad you enjoy my little original additions! I know some don't like when the story is strayed from too far. Hope you enjoyed this chapter!
Guest (Feb 5) - Elijah will be appearing near enough next chapter, meaning the other Originals will fall close behind. And well, knowing a group of people for how many years? Well, there's gonna be drama lmao
So... *grabs chair, sits down, captain america style* my story is one year old! To anyone whose been there since day 1, thank u, to anyone who has just discovered this story this week, thank u, to anyone who discovered this story went "nah" got bored one day and returned to give it a second chance, thank u.
It's been. A wild year to say the least, but I'm so happy I started writing this story and am so thankful to those who have supported me throughout this.
Saying that tho...I need to take a break...
Not because I'm not enjoying writing this or anything because I could honestly write this for days quite happily but I currently have a dissertation that is getting half ignored soooooo
I'm gonna take the "responsible adult" decision and take a break from this for a while. I can't give a definitive date because I have no concept of time on a good day but. It won't be for long! Hopefully! I'm gonna say I'll have a month or two off from uploading.
I'm sorry! I know it's right before the Elijah first meeting but hey! Something to look forward to I guess?
In the meantime please take care of yourself, and I'll see you soon :)
