Scarlet
Scarlet wasn't a very calm person. She had no patience for nonsense and idiocy, and she wasn't at all forgiving when someone decided to torment her or her friends, whether it be stupid brash arrogance spilling from Roland's mouth, or the far more life-threatening attacks from Levana. Or the pack of bloody buzzards that had decided to all pummel her with stupid questions all day!
A reporter leaned in, her eyes sparkling with greed as her Quick-Quotes Quill scribbled on a floating pad of paper, her unnaturally red lips already opening to ask yet another dumb question. Scarlet (who had reached the edge of her rope about an hour ago) quickly pulled out her wand from her waistband and flicked it at the hovering writing instruments. The sparks caught onto the paper and the fluff of the Quill wonderfully, and they both went up in a smoking, burning inferno that Scarlet thought was a pretty accurate representation of what she was feeling at that moment.
The reporters stared at the smouldering wreckage in shock and fear. Slowly, one by one, their terrified gazes flicked over to Scarlet, only to flinch back as they met her fierce glare. The rational part of her knew that this was far from a smart course of action and there would very likely be an article in the next issue of the Daily Prophet talking about an unstable and violent French redhead that was likely more of a hindrance than an asset to the great heroes who uncovered the schemes of the wicked headmistress of Artemisia. But as far as Scarlet was concerned, an unflattering description in the most widely read newspaper in the wizarding world was well-worth a few minutes of piece and quiet away from these stupidly ravenous vampires. For Merlin's sake, she thought she deserved that much at least after what she's been through! Or was the thick layer of bandages around her hand not enough of a testimony on why she should just be given a break already?
"I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be taking any more questions today. Or ever." She said with exaggerated sweetness. "So why don't you lot go off and find someone else to bleed dry for your stupid sensationalist columns, before I start making you puke slugs all over your notes?"
Watching them turn white as sheets and scamper away, holding their notepads to their chests like precious babies, was the best part of Scarlet's day.
She smugly tucked her wand back into her waistband and dusted her hands off. Finally, they were out of her hair. Now then. To business. Scarlet hadn't seen much of her friends since Levana was defeated and the whole damn school became swarmed with aurors and reporters, but she could guess that most of them were being mobbed like she was. She'd seen Kai dragging Cinder away earlier, and if they got mobbed again he could probably handle it. The son of the Minister of Magic? Of course he knew how to handle the paparazzi. Thorne was probably loving the attention and giving heavily dramatized descriptions of their groups antics, same went for Iko. Jacin had probably scared the reporters off already, since he had even less stomach for their idiocy than Scarlet did, and Kinney was probably fine since he only joined up at the very end. As for Cress, well, if Thorne knew what was good for him he'd be sheltering her and keeping the reporters away from her. Merlin knows that kind of attention is the last thing the shy blonde needed.
And that left…
Scarlet's shoulders slumped as she sighed. Wolf.
She hadn't seen him after the battle between the centaurs and the staff. After he did that weird partial transformation and passed out, Scarlet just focused on dragging his (irritatingly heavy) body to the infirmary. She'd expected him to still be there when she went to check up on him, but, apparently, the aurors got to him first. They've been interrogating him ever since. Which honestly just made Scarlet lose hope in law enforcement more than anything. Honestly, what did they think they were going to learn from him? He was just a soldier, a grunt, a pawn on a chessboard to be sacrificed in order to get closer to the king. What did they expect to get from him, Levana's bloody vault-number?
A scowl creased her face, and Scarlet strode purposefully out of the hall. Well she'll be damned if she let him suffer that much longer.
It wasn't too hard to figure out where Wolf would've been. The aurors had been doing all of their interrogations in one place: The Astronomy Tower. Why the Astronomy Tower? Scarlet didn't know, and frankly, she didn't care. Maybe they thought it was poetic, since that was where the final nail in Levana's proverbial coffin had been hammered. Maybe they thought the starry roof would have been considered relaxing by their suspects. It wasn't anything of Scarlet's concern. All that mattered was that Wolf, along with Merlin knows how many other poor werewolves that had the misfortune of being remotely associated with Levana, was holed up in there.
A couple of aurors stood guard at the entrance to the tower, with a rope glowing with some sort of magic energy stretched across it for good measure. Like Scarlet was going to let that deter her.
One of the guards held out his hand and Scarlet reluctantly stopped. "This area is restricted Miss. You can't come in here."
Scarlet rolled her eyes. "I know what restricted means." She hissed, "I'm just here to pick up a friend."
The auror frowned. "I'm afraid I can't allow that. All suspects are to remain in custody until they are deemed innocent."
"He's been in there for hours!" Scarlet protested, "I'm pretty sure they've bled any and all information out of him, including whether or not he's an actual criminal."
The other guard finally spoke up. "That's not for you to decide girl."
Scarlet shot him a glare, and a small ember of satisfaction warmed her chest as he flinched. "Seriously? That's the excuse you're hiding behind?"
"I understand that you're upset, but this is for the good of the entire magical community-"
"Good of the magical community my foot! If there were regular humans in there they'd have been out hours ago! The only reason you're acting so suspicious of these kids in particular is because, by no fault of their own, they have an incurable disease!"
The first auror frowned. "That is a serious and unvalidated accusation Miss. And no matter what you say or think about our reasons, we can't just let you barge in there and set those "kids" free."
Scarlet narrowed her eyes, her fingers slowly closing around the handle of her wand for the second time that day. "Fine."
A/N: I. Absolutely. Love. Writing. Angry. Scarlet!
