Chapter 31: It's the Missing Piece of Your Heart
"If a man does not embrace his past he has no future," Ardeth said, making Rory turn her head towards him, listening in to his conversation with Rick. She was standing by Evy's side at the end of the balloon gondola.
"Even if I was some sort of Med-jai," Rick said in pure disbelief as he played with his knife. "What good does that do me now?"
"It is the missing piece of your heart," Ardeth said simply. "If you embrace, if you can accept it, you can do anything."
"Sounds great," Rick said, still not buying into it. "What can we expect from our old friend Imhotep?"
Ardeth nodded at his refusal to believe. "His powers are returning quickly. By the time he reaches Ahm Shere, even the Scorpion King won't be able to stop him."
"Great," he sighed, running his hands over his face.
Rory bit her bottom lip curiously and turned to face the sky full of stars in front of her.
"Evy…did you hear that?" Rory asked, hearing a familiar sound of voice close to her friend, but Evy seemed to be in a trance, and soon Rory followed after her… hearing a voice that sounded romantic to her ears.
"It is time to remind you of who you are….And of who we are together, for our love is a true love, an eternal love, our souls mated, together as one forever…"
A golden room appeared as if they were in a temple, and a palace like setting. Rory found herself among pharaohs and priests. She looked around her completely shocked until she saw a familiar face in front of her when an around of applause erupted around the room. Then she she looked at her own outfit, dressed like a handmaiden's of sorts, but thin material and gold straps to hold sandals under the soles of her feet.
"Oh no," she whispered to herself. She was in ancient times wasn't she?
"Put your mask on," someone said, making Rory look out into the room that had been cleared for such an occasion of two women fighting, one had ended up on the floor and was looking up at her opponent. That's when Rory recognized her immediately as….Evy?
"Let's not scar that pretty face."
Rory opened her mouth ajar as the two girls continued to fight, and taking up newer weapons, but Evy had once more ended up on her back with the other woman over her with her stick pointed at her.
"You are learning quickly, Nefertiri. I'll have to watch my back."
"Yes," Nefertiri said. "And I'll watch mine."
Rory bit her bottom lip out of curiosity, sensing some animosity between the two women.
"Bravo, bravo!" Seti stepped down from his throne, clapping with the others. Rory watched in pure awe as he walked over towards the floor and both women. "Who better than to protect the bracelet of Anubis than my lovely daughter, Nefertiri!"
Rory looked at the golden artifact inside the chest as it was brought over to another spot in the room. Imhotep eyed it like it was his. Rory narrowed her eyes at the priest with great suspicion.
"And who better to protect me than my future wife, Anuk-Su-Na-Mun," he beamed offering an arm towards her who bowed respectively towards him. He hugged his daughter, and while Nefertiri hugged him back she watched the exchange between Imhotep and Anuk-Su-Na-Mun.

Back in Neferitiri's quarters Rory was reading the Golden Book of Amun-Ra, and had the Book of the Dead. The Bracelet of Anubis was resting beside her on the table.
"Lorelei, you've been at that for hours, it's time to take a break," Neferetiri said as she came out from behind her divider dressed into a beautiful golden dress that glittered underneath the light with its jewels of silver diamonds that looked like rain drops.
"For good reason, my princess. The Anubis is to be protected at all costs."
"I know. And it will be. But must you be searching through those old books?"
"In case-"
"Nothing is going to happen. They're in capable hands. You can have the night off," she said, giving her a small smile.
She sighed. "Seti was right to me bring me in to protect you."
"I don't need protecting," Nefertiri rolled her eyes as she walked out onto the balcony. "You saw the ceremony today."
"Hmm. You noticed too," Lorelei mused lightly as she watched her walk over to the balcony.
"Yes I did," she said, glowering across the courtyard as she stared at the other room where Anuk-Su-Na-Mun stood. The curtains wisped behind her due to the cool night's wind.
"What are you going to do?"
She shrugged. "I can't do anything. You know the laws as well as I."
"Nefertiri, I don't know who my parents are. I never met them. But you have a loving father who knows and trusts you,"
She scoffed lightly.
"He'll believe you if you tell him about their affair," she said, pointing towards them as Imhotep walked towards Anuk-Su-Na-Mun and exchanged their love for one another.
Nefertiri looked away in disgust. Lorelei couldn't blame her.
"My father chose you because he saw a little bit of Skemet in you. He was right," she gave her a small smile. "I'm just not sure how to tell him."
"I'll be there if you want me to."
"No, I have to…" she stopped and then suddenly looked back at the room across from her when she heard the sound of a sword swing in the air. Imhotep and Anuk-Su-Na-Mun had cornered him. She gasped, and grasped onto Lorelei's arm. She looked down to the guards outside their palace.
"MEDJAI!"
They looked up at her. "My father needs you!"
She pointed towards the other room, and they rushed to the doors to go after him.
"NO!" She cried in a panic and instinctively went to the balcony, bringing Lorelei with her to her death.
Rory jumped out to save Evy from falling off the boat, feeling Rick's and Ardeth's grip on her as she tried to keep Evy from falling to her impending deaths.
