Chapter 42

Anabelle woke up to a cold hand shaking her awake. She opened her eyes to see Edward holding a bowl of mac and cheese. "Thank you." She told him before sitting up and taking it from his hand. "I'm sorry for breaking down like that. I know you don't know me. Everything's just a little crazy at the moment."

"I understand," Edward replied with an airy chuckle. "You've been through a lot of emotional duress in the past 12 hours."

Anabelle chuckled, "You can say that again. But you have as well. I can't poke through your mind so would you like to talk about it? You did call off marrying someone. I imagine it wasn't easy for you to do that."

"I guess I just realised I went about everything wrong. When Bella and I met, I was attracted to her blood. She's my singer. Her blood was calling to me. Her personality didn't, which is a major red flag that I had missed. I was addicted to the fact that I wanted her blood and that was it, nothing else mattered to me. When we were dating, there was never really anything to talk about. We're from different era's and we didn't have a lot to talk about. When I proposed, she wanted to be intimate with me but I didn't want that. She brushed off the fact that I want..." he trailed off.

"You want to wait till marriage," Anabelle said for him, making Edward bow his head in embarrassment. She thought, if he was human, he would be blushing causing her to giggle quietly. "You don't have to be embarrassed about it Edward. A lot of people do it. I, for one, am not. It all depends on what life brings me."

"Thank you," Edward replied. "When I told Bella, she just kind of laughed. I don't think she realized that I'm from a different era."

"Well...she's a bitch." Anabelle spat causing Edward to chuckle.

"You have a very colorful language." He smirked. Anabelle blushed a deep crimson before bowing her head.

"Thank you." She replied shyly before taking a bite of her macaroni. "This is good. Is it Kraft?"

"Um. I believe so, I don't usually spend time in the kitchen. Haven't tried food in a long time." Edward replied.

"Will food hurt you in any way? If you eat it." She asked.

He shook his head. "No, it won't hurt us. If we do eat something, it just stays in our stomach until we don't want it anymore." Anabelle looked at him in confusion. "We throw it up." He continued.

"Gross." Anabelle said, sticking out her tongue. Edward chuckled.

"I got you something." He told her before placing a tube of what she thought was lotion in her hand. "It's to help with the swelling."

She gave him a small smile before looking down at the red marks on her arms. "Paul asked me about them but I just said I got them by falling."

"Well, I'm sure when he finds out, he won't be too happy." Anabelle nodded.

"Well, he won't. Paul would surely track J down and kill him." Edward looked at her grudgingly.

"You're still protecting him. Why? After everything that happened."

Anabelle shook her head. "That wasn't J. The person I fought with today was not my boyfriend. I'm sure that his wolf took over causing him to explode. But, that wasn't the Jacob I fell in love with. I'm sure of it."

Edward looked at the young girl and frowned. He could see in her mind that even if Jacob never came back, she would still wait for him. However long it was.

"Thank you again Esme for making me dinner. It was delicious." Anabelle said walking down the stairs.

"Your welcome dear. I always look forward to using the kitchen when I can." Anabelle smiled at the older vampire with adoration.

"Well, I'm sure you'll be using it a lot more this summer. Maybe I can teach you how to make some dishes I love to make as well."

"That would be wonderful dear." After saying her goodbyes, Anabelle followed Rosalie out the door to leave.

Both girls got into the car before Rosalie sadly smiled at her. "You know he's going to come back right?" She asked. "Y'all are meant to be together."

"I don't know." Anabelle sighed. "He said he was coming back, it's just a matter of when. Hopefully, it's sooner rather than later. I regret saying certain things to him. I just hope he's not mad at me." Tears welled up in her eyes causing Rosalie to grab her hand. "I miss him more than anything, and I really messed up Rose. He looked so hurt and I didn't know how to fix it."

"You just need to give it some time, hon. He will come back. You just have to be patient. But while he's gone, because he is coming back, you need to focus on school. Make sure you're up to date on everything. Make sure you're practicing your clarinet too. You don't know how much a scholarship could do."

Anabelle nodded, "I know. I won't let you down. I promise."

The next day, Anabelle walked over to the Blacks' house. She took a deep breath before hesitantly knocking on the door and stepped back when she heard the squeaking of wheels before Billy opened the door. "Belle," he sighed happily. "It's good to see you. Come in." He looked behind her and asked, "Where's Jacob?"

Anabelle cringed before following him into the living room. "Actually Billy, I wanted to tell you something. It's about Jacob."

The older man looked at her in confusion. "What about Jacob? Is he hurt?"

"No, he's not hurt." She assured him. "But something did happen yesterday that I wanted to talk to you about." Billy noted her stuttering and urged her to sit down.

"Take a deep breath, little one. And tell me what happened." Anabelle did what he was told before speaking.

"Yesterday, I had a study date with a friend, Mason. And he admitted, after J had left to turn on the car, that he had feelings for me. I obviously do not reciprocate his feelings. I love Jacob, so much." Billy placed a comforting hand when her voice cracked and tears appeared in her eyes. "Mason then caught me totally off guard and kissed me, which J saw. He got mad at me for not reacting faster and he then admitted to kissing Bella before the battle."

Anabelle took a steadying breath before continuing. "He, he-" she stuttered, Billy started rubbing her arm soothingly. "We got into this huge fight and I called him out for basically cheating on me which he brushed off. I then told him I wanted to be friends and take a break for a while. I thought he understood that but when we got to Emily's everything just blew up again. He lied to me, Billy. Again-" she suddenly winced when Billy hand brushed over her bicep.

"What happened to your arm sweet girl?" Billy asked before lifting her sleeve more to see four red marks.

"That's another thing." She whispered. "Jacob got angry when I broke up with him and told him I needed a break. He broke after that and grabbed me by the arms before forcing himself on top of me." Billy glared at the wall, angry at his son and his actions. He had always praised himself in raising Jacob to respect women or anyone for that matter. "He said I was his. Which doesn't sound bad, I mean, I love him. I'm in love with him. But when he said it, I felt disrespected in a way."

Anabelle sighed before bowing her head. "Maybe I'm overreacting. I just don't know what to do."

"No. You're not overreacting, sweet girl. I'm sorry he did that. You should never be put in that position, Belle. Do you hear me?" Anabelle nodded as tears ran down her face. "I don't want to defend my son, and I don't want you to think I am ok with what he did. But, as a wolf, when they see that you are with another man, they will not like that at all. But they should do what a real man, or wolf must do. Communicate with their mate. Get to the root of the problem and fix it. That is what will help any relationship. Communication." He sighed sadly before wiping the tears off her cheek.

"I'm sorry sweet girl." He told her. She waved it off quickly before covering her arm with her jacket she brought.

"I'm fine." She told him. "I know it wasn't him. He, he would never hurt me intentionally. But I do want you to know that when he's gone, I can come over, Billy. Everyday and make lunch and dinner for you."

Billy waved her off. "I can't let you take care of me."

"But I want to." She told him adamantly. "I have school only a few hours a day so everyday around 12 and 8, I'll come over and make you something. I also know that you have to do your insulin as well."

Billy gave her a look of disgust causing her to giggle. "I hate that damn needle thing. It takes Jacob too damn long to do it."

"Well, I'm sure I can do it much faster. I've learned over the years how to do needles. When we lived back in Tacoma, we had a neighbor who needed insulin but her husband passed so she had no one to tend to her. My father insisted that I help her with her insulin. During the summer when I didn't have school. And I'm happy to do it for you too."

"Well thank you Anabelle." Billy replied, smiling at her. "And I'm sure he'll be back soon. Before you know it."

"I hope so, Billy. There's so much I want to say to him."

It was now one week after Jacob had left and Anabelle spent all her time and energy into her school work. She would wake up at 7 o'clock every morning, do her schoolwork until lunch before going to Billy's to make him something to eat and inject his insulin. After doing that, she would stay with Billy until dinner, doing more school work until making dinner for Billy and going home. It was tiring to say the least, but it was the only thing she could do to take her mind off of Jacob.

Anabelle sighed heavily after finishing her work for the night, happy to finally be done with her book report for her english class. She had always had trouble writing expository essays, not being able to put her thoughts on paper. She had gotten better over the years but still didn't feel like she was at her best. Closing her notebook, she stood up from her desk and looked at her alarm clock. 9:15. When she was walking to her drawer for some pijamas, Leah walked into her room, a bothered expression apparent on her face.

Her eyes zoned in on the textbooks on Anabelle's desk along with miscellaneous papers scattered throughout. "You're still doing homework?"

"Yes Leah. I just finished my essay and I want to get my history for Monday out of the way." Anabelle replied.

"Ok, that's it. You and I are going out. Enough of this work-till-I-drop shit." Anabelle rolled her eyes before laying down on her bed.

"It's late, Leah. I'm tired." The she-wolf scoffed before taking out a lace dress from the small walk-in closet.

"It's not late Belle, we're going to party. It's a friday night and I hear there's a party down at the beach, and we're going. The boys are coming too, so you'll know people already." She gave Anabelle the dress before picking up a pair of strappy sandals. "Now get dressed, you have thirty minutes."

Anabelle grudgingly stood up when Leah left and changed out of her clothes before putting on her shoes. She then styled her hair in a high ponytail, before putting on some makeup. She put on a little eyeshadow, mascara, and lipgloss until she was happy with how it looked. Once done, she walked downstairs, taking a deep breath to calm her growing nerves. This is going to be fun, she thought.

Right?
