A/N: Prompt 43 from the Drabble challenge list: "Frost the damn cupcakes." Takes place sometime in the last couple years. This is probably not what you had in mind.
"You know, there's these things called bakeries, I'm pretty sure we could cupcakes there," Deeks said as he watched Kensi scoop red velvet batter into a cupcake tin. It had come out slightly thinner than it was supposed to and kept leaving little drips on the counter. Kensi didn't stop though, just as determined as she was with any other task she set her mind to.
"This is more fun," Kensi insisted, swiping her hair back from her forehead with the back of her hand. Deeks wasn't exactly sure what had gotten into the love of his life, but she'd woken up three hours ago with the desire to bake.
"But neither of us know how to bake," he reminded her, taking the latest cupcake tin to the oven. "And you hate doing dishes." Kensi ignored him and pointed to the first batch of cupcakes that had been cooling for the last hour.
"Those should be ready to frost." She pushed a spatula and a bowl of bright green, mint frosting into his chest. Deeks took them and added,
"Plus, you've already burnt yourself twice." Kensi drew in a long breath.
"That's because you moved the oven mitts," she said with forced cheerfulness.
"I'm pretty sure I didn't," he replied calmly, which earned him a glare from Kensi. "Getting back to the original topic, you've also gone through three bags of sugar, two bags of flour, enough butter and cream cheese to clog a giant's arteries, and a worrying amount of food coloring. At this point I think it would be cheaper to go to that fancy schmancy place that charges $30 a half dozen."
"But it's still not as much fun as this is," Kensi insisted with a warning note in her voice. "And those cupcakes aren't going to frost themselves."
"Or we could forget about the cupcakes and have sex instead."
"Just frost the damn cupcakes," Kensi said, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"I'll take that as a 'no'," he decided. Kensi glared at him and he quickly started smearing the thick mixture over the cupcakes. "Definitely so much more fun than sex," he muttered under his breath.
