Chapter 36: The Jewel Of Loyalty

May and Drew are at May's locker before school starts. May is putting things inside her bag and Drew is leaning on his back against the lockers with his arms crossed over his chest.

"I'm still mad at Gabriella for erasing my memories of us." Drew said.

"Me too." May agreed.

"She almost broke us up."

"Yeah...but it's fine-"

"And you've done nothing wrong to her." Drew cut May off.

"Drew."

"Except of course for dating me, but that is your decision. And I love you, so she shouldn't be so jealous of you."

"Drew." May repeated, turning her body to face Drew.

"My fans just keep getting more and more mean."

May sighed as Drew kept going on and on without even realizing that she's been talking to him. She reaches in her locker and pulls out a rose that she keeps in a vase inside her locker. She holds it in front of Drew's face.

Drew immediately stopped talking when he saw the rose in front of him. He looked at May. May smiled and put the rose back in her locker.

"It works even on you." May said.

Drew smiled. "I guess it does."

May looked back at Drew. "Listen. Please don't be mean right back to Gabriella. It's all in the past now."

"But...she made me hurt you inside." Drew said.

"I know, but you know me. I don't like holding grudges with anyone. Just leave her be, okay?"

Drew didn't respond.

"You have her in a class, right?" May asked.

Drew nodded. "Yeah."

"Okay. So do me a favor." May said, running her hand through Drew's hair. She's caressing the top of Drew's head. "Can you get the jewel from her?"

Drew blushed slightly at the feel of May's hand running through his hair. He smiled. "I'll try my best."

May smiled and continued stroking Drew's hair lovingly, enjoying the softness of his hair. After a moment, Drew backed away from May, smoothing out his hair. May lowered her hand and giggled.

"You know that I don't like people touching my hair." Drew said.

"I know…" May said, smiling. "But I couldn't resist. It's so soft."

Drew flicked his bangs. "I guess I can understand that."

"So you'll let me touch your hair whenever I want to?" May asked hopeful.

"No." Drew answered.

May pouted.

"Nice try, June. You're lucky that I let you pet me in the first place." Drew said.

May furrowed her eyebrows. "My name is May!"

"I know." Drew said cockily.

"...Hmph!" May responded, swiftly turning her body to face the inside of her locker. She put on her bag and closed the locker.

Riiiiinnnnngggggg!

Drew took May's hand. She looked up at him. Drew smiled and started walking May to the choir room, holding her hand.

"What period do you have Gabriella?" May asked.

"Third." Drew answered.

"Okay then. Can you meet me in the choir room first thing during lunch?"

"Why?"

"To give me the jewel."

"Oh. Okay then. But what if she doesn't have a jewel on her?" Drew asked.

"She's got to." May said. "But if she doesn't, text me before lunch and we won't meet in the choir room."

They stopped in front of the choir room and faced each other. "Okay." Drew said.

May smiled. She tiptoed slightly and gave Drew a quick peck on the lips. She then entered the choir room, leaving Drew to watch her and blush.

Drew is in his third period, cooking class, while May is in Showcases class. Drew has this class with Gary and Dawn.

"Oh, Drewy." They heard a voice say from nearby. Drew, Gary, and Dawn turned their heads to see a girl sit next to Drew. "Did you miss me?"

"Gabriella, I'm not your boyfriend." Drew said. "Your plan to erase my memories of May and I backfired."

"...what?" Gabriella said in a high pitched voice that clearly says that she's lying.

Drew, Gary, and Dawn just stare at Gabriella. "Okay fine!" Gabriella gave up. "I was behind your memories being erased."

"Why'd you do that?" Drew asked. "You almost broke us up just because you were jealous?"

"Yes!" Gabriella admitted. "You're just...so good-looking...and cute...and handsome...and I just want you to be all mine."

"Well, sorry to say, but that won't happen. You're just going to have to deal with the fact that I'm in love with Princess May."

Gabriella sighed. "Right…"

"Now, do you have some sort of magical jewel on you?"

"A magical jewel? W-why would you ask something like that?"

Drew narrowed his eyes at Gabriella. "Give it." Drew said, holding out his hand to accept a jewel.

Gabriella stared at Drew's hand and then looked back at his eyes. "But...how do you even know about my magic jewel?"

"I'm dating someone that uses a magical jewel herself." Drew said. "She knows about more in the world. And you have one, so give me it."

Gabriella sighed. "Fine." She reached in her pocket and pulled out a red oval jewel. She placed it in Drew's hand.

Drew pulled his hand back to him. Drew, Gary, and Dawn all stared at the jewel. "Wow…" Dawn breathed. "That's another magical jewel."

"Yeah." Drew said. "And it's going to go with May," Drew looked at Gabriella. "The rightful owner of it."

May is in the choir room during lunch because Drew didn't text her to tell her otherwise. The door opened. May lifted her head up. She's sitting on the risers. She sees Drew enter the room.

"Hey. Did you get it?" May asked.

Drew sat down on the risers next to May. He reached in his pocket and pulled out the red jewel, showing it to May. "Of course I did."

May smiled and took the jewel from Drew. The red oval jewel glowed in her hand. "The Jewel Of Loyalty…" May said. They stared at it and watched the glow fade.

May looked at Drew. "Thank you, Drew. You're the best."

"That's me." Drew said smugly.

"This means we only have the Jewel Of Compassion to find." May said, putting the jewel in her bag. "And then we can free the goddess."

It's the first week of February. Meaning that it's almost Valentine's Day which is in the second week. Drew invited the gang minus May to his mansion to finally tell them about what he's planning for May's Valentine's Day surprise. He even asked if Kiara could come over without May suspecting anything and that's what Kiara did. Kiara just told May that she's going to a friend's house and May let her. That was pretty easy. May is at the castle while the gang is all in Drew's room.

"So, what'd you call us here for anyway?" Gary asked.

"I'm glad you all could make it." Drew said. "I need your help with my surprise for May on Valentine's Day."

Dawn gasped. "Valentine's Day?" She asked excitedly.

"You have something extremely romantic planned for her, don't you?" Kiara asked.

"Well…" Drew started. He reached in his pocket and pulled a small box out. The gang all gasped at the box.

"Is that a…?" Dawn asked, mouth open in shock.

Drew blushed slightly and nodded. The girls all squealed. The boys' ears all hurt from the high-pitched squeals.

"Did you have to squeal right in my ear?" Paul asked, rubbing his ear.

"Sorry!" Dawn said, rather happy. "It's just so exciting! Drew's going to propose!"

"Shhhh!" Drew hushed. "I haven't told my parents yet and I don't want them to hear through the door."

"Oops. Sorry." Dawn apologized shyly.

Drew put the ring box back in his pocket. "So, you need help with the big surprise, right?" Gary asked Drew.

Drew nodded. "I know how I want to surprise her, but I'll need you all to help with it."

"Just tell us what to do and it's done." Kiara said. "I want my sister to be happy and I know that she's happy with you."

"Thanks." Drew said. "Here's the plan…"

Drew is currently visiting the castle, but not to see May. Kiara meets him at the front.

"She's in her room." Kiara said.

"Okay. Hopefully she doesn't see us." Drew said.

Kiara and Drew walked up the stairs in the entryway and they walked through the large doors at the top. There were more large doors in front of them. They walked across the hall where two guards opened the doors for them. They entered the Throne Room where Norman and Caroline were already sitting on their thrones.

Drew and Kiara continue walking further inside the room, the doors closing behind them. Drew looks at Norman as he walks and he sees Norman staring at him as well. Norman has that stern and serious look as always and it always intimidates Drew. But Drew just keeps his head up. He has something to ask them and he can't be afraid to. He just can't.

Kiara and Drew stop walking 5 feet away from the small long staircase that carries the thrones on the top of it. "Mom, Dad, Drew has something he'd like to ask you." Kiara said.

"What is it, Drew?" Caroline asked nicely.

"I…" Drew started. He made eye contact with Norman again and he gulped. He looked back at Caroline. "I love Princess May." He finally said.

"Yes. We know that." Caroline said.

"And I want you both to know that I plan on marrying her."

Norman and Caroline's eyes widen as they stare down at Drew.

"I came here to ask for your blessings." Drew said. "May means everything to me and I'd do anything I can to protect her. I plan on proposing to her on Valentine's Day. With your permission of course." With that said, he bent his upper body downward, giving a bow to Norman and Caroline. He stared down at the floor.

Caroline and Norman both looked at each other. They looked back at Drew. "Stand up straight, Drew." Caroline said.

Drew did as he was told and he stood up straight, looking the two rulers in the eyes. Inside, he's hoping that they'd allow him to marry May. Outside, he has a serious expression on his face.

"We know how much you love May. And how much she loves you." Caroline said.

Norman finally decided to speak. "Wouldn't you agree that it might be too early to propose to her?"

Drew didn't respond for a moment. "...it might be." He finally said. "But I know that I want to spend the rest of my life with her. We have true love that...I didn't even know was possible to reach." Drew paused before continuing. "And I'd like to be her happily ever after that she keeps talking about."

Caroline was the first one to smile. She turned her head to look at Norman. "I think he's perfect for her." She whispered. Norman looked at Caroline. "They're so happy together. We should let him."

Norman didn't respond right away. After a moment, he found himself nodding, but not yet smiling. They both looked back at Drew.

"Do you promise to always protect her?" Norman asked.

"Yes." Drew answered, almost instantly.

"And you'll always be there for her no matter how mad or sad she may be?"

"Yes. I promise." Drew answered.

"Well then…" Norman started. He finally gave a small smile. "We give you our blessings."

Drew smiled. "Thank you, Your Majesties."

And so Drew left the Throne Room feeling warm and happy inside as he thinks about how May will react when he proposes to her. He went home without May even knowing that he was at the castle. He told his own parents about his proposal to May and they were happy for him to make that decision.
