Request from Guest: could u do another story where something happens that reminds her of foster care, maybe in front of a different person?- I set this after season 2 when Skye/Daisy is betrayed by her parents.

Thank you all for reading and for sending me requests! I'm working on them I promise! Hope you all are safe and happy :)

The last couple weeks had been a whirlwind. Skye, or Daisy now, had been on the move trying to keep herself busy. She was exhausted from the lack of sleep and from overworking herself, but she wouldn't let herself stop. The second her mind wasn't occupied, she knew the memories of her mother trying to kill her would consume her thoughts. It was bad enough she had to see them in her nightmares, she didn't want to think about it.

Daisy was currently in the kitchen washing the team's dinner dishes, which she insisted on taking care of herself. She was running out of mindless tasks to occupy herself with.

"You know there's a machine that'll wash those dishes, right?" Mack joked as he leaned against the wall.

"Yeah, but this is quicker. I don't need help, it's fine." Daisy dismissed the man.

"Alright, but you can't do this forever."

"There's only a few plates left."

"You know what I mean, Daisy." He gave her a pointed look before leaving.

Daisy rolled her eyes. Everyone was treating her like she could break at any moment, which was probably true, but it was driving her crazy. She just wished Coulson would be back on base soon. He had been on a recruitment mission for the past four days and she couldn't help but wish he was here to talk to. Her eyes started watering at the thought and she quickly blinked back tears, What the hell is wrong with me? She asked herself.

She was putting away the dishes when she heard a commercial on TV promoting a charity that gave to the foster system. Kids were sharing their own testimonies of their foster care experiences. It all became too much for Daisy all of a sudden, and she slammed the cabinet shut and stormed off to her room.

Not even twenty minutes later, Coulson's quinjet landed and he strolled into the common area.

"Welcome back, sir." Mack greeted, "I know you just got back, but you might want to check on Daisy. She's not doing too hot."

Coulson nodded and began the trip to the girl's room. As he arrived, he noticed her door was open just a crack.

"Skye?" He said as he knocked and pushed the door open. The girl was sitting on the floor, leaning against her bed with her knees pulled up to her chest. She wasn't crying, but she looked terrible. Phil noticed the dark circles under her eyes and her pale complexion. He sat down next to her and smiled a little when her shoulders relaxed a bit.

"Skye?" He repeated and set his hand on top of her small, cold one. "When's the last time you slept?"

She shrugged in response and let a tear fall down her cheek.

"I heard a commercial on TV." She started and took a few deep breaths. Phil wasn't sure what that was supposed to mean, so he stayed quiet, focusing all his attention on the girl.

"It was about sponsoring the foster system and I guess it just pushed me to process things." She paused again, taking her time to compose herself before continuing, "My third foster home sent me back because I called her mom. My fifth foster all the other kids called the parents mom and dad, but when I finally got the courage to say "mom" they ignored me and I was sent back."

Coulson's heart broke for the girl. He wished, not for the first time, that he had been there for her as she grew up.

"I called Jiaying "mom." I thought…" she let out a small sob, "I thought she wanted me. I thought she loved me, but she was no different than the foster families. Why- why doesn't anyone want me? What's wrong with me, A.C.?"

"Hey-" Coulson started, but Daisy continued.

"Everyone who sent me back had one thing in common, me! I'm broken."

"No. No, none of this is your fault." Coulson reprimanded slightly, "Skye, you are so special. You wouldn't be here on this team, in this family, if you weren't. We're all a little broken, but that's okay. Anyone who didn't want you was missing out. You've been through more than anyone should have to go through, and yet you're still the best person I know."

Daisy let his words sink in and leaned her head on his shoulder. A new wave of tears flooded her eyes. Coulson's suit was becoming damp with tears, but he didn't mind. This girl, the one he thought of as his own daughter, had just been through hell, and if she needed a shoulder to cry on he'd be there for her.

"You said that I might not like what I found on my parents, and I said it can't be worse than what I've imagined, but it is. It's so much worse. Jiaying… She said she loved me." Daisy laughed bitterly. "She said she loved me, then tried to...to kill me! Why do people do this? They say they love you, but they leave. They always leave."

"We aren't leaving."

"May did." Daisy replied and Coulson sighed. She wasn't wrong about that.

"She needs time. She cares for you, you know that right?" Coulson asked. He knew May cared deeply for the girl that was currently crying in his arms, but May didn't always show it.

"I don't know anymore." Daisy did know May cared, but right now when she needed it most, May wasn't there. She felt like she was little Mary Sue Poots again, abandoned and unloved. The pair sat in silence for a while, with Daisy deep in thought.

"I'm sorry." Daisy spoke up.

"What?"

"For overreacting about everything. I know May cares, I do. I guess I'm just used to people leaving then never coming back, never giving a damn about what happens to me." Daisy sighed, "When you grow up the way I did, it's hard to believe people when they say they care."

She avoided eye contact with Coulson as he pulled away from the hug to look at her.

"Hey, look at me." He said and he gently lifted her chin. She peered at him through her bangs and his heart warmed at the child-like action. "This team is going to do everything in our power to stick together. We will not abandon you. I will not abandon you. That's not what families do, and you are an essential part to ours. We care about you so damn much."

Daisy relaxed at this. She wasn't sure how the few sentences he said made her feel better, but she supposed it was just something A.C. could do, his own superpower. A memory of a kid in elementary school popped into her head,

"A dad is someone who makes you feel better. He makes pancakes and his hugs are the best! Oh, but you wouldn't know, would you Mary?" The kid had taunted.

Back then little Mary Sue cried, but now Daisy smiled. She may not have known what a father's love was like back then, but she knew now.

"Thank you. I care about you guys too. Like, a lot." Daisy said before yawning. The lack of sleep was finally catching up to her, so leaned her head on Coulson's shoulder once again.

"When's the last time you slept, hmmm?" Coulson asked again, worried.

"Technically I slept last night."

"When's the last time you got more than three hours?"

"Hmm, when did Jiaying try to kill me? Yeah, since then." Daisy tried to joke.

"Okay, I think it's time you get to bed." Coulson ordered, nudging the girl to get up, but she didn't budge. "Skye.."

"It's Daisy, A.C."

"Right, sorry, Daisy. Come on, you should sleep in an actual bed." She simply hummed, but he doubted she actually heard or cared about what he said. He shifted slightly to get as comfortable as possible and looked down at the girl who was now asleep on his shoulder. Tear tracks still lined her cheeks, but at least she was sleeping peacefully. He had no idea why life had been so cruel to her, but he did know that he would do everything he could to be there for her, even if that meant sitting on a concrete floor while she used his shoulder as a pillow. After two hours his back couldn't take it anymore, so he gently scooped her up and set her on the bed. He managed to pull the covers around her without a stir, which he mentally high fived himself for.

"Goodnight Angel eyes." He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear before adding one last reassurance, "You are so loved and wanted here."

He smiled as his pseudo-daughter sighed contentedly, before he silently slipped out the door.
