Just thought you readers should know one part of the plot I came up with recently and the other I had planned for a while and they sort of just combined together. Be prepared. I knew what was going to happen and even I wasn't prepared for it.
The next morning Jane had woken up in bed and Maura was sound asleep, they had to go to the train station in an hour to get to London. Before she woke up she checked her phone which she gotten two voice-mails, one from Crowe and one from Camille. More worried about Camille's phone message she listened to hers first.
"Hey Jane, I'm calling because something came up, I got a letter from the person who's been stalking me. He wants to meet me Monday at 8PM told me to come alone. I don't know what I should do, maybe you can help me I have an idea, you're the only one I trust. You can call me back anytime past 10 AM Boston time. I hope this doesn't ruin your last day of vacationing. Bye."
Jane frowned and tensed up. "What other bad news will I be getting?" she sighed, listening to Crowe's message.
"Hey Rizzoli, Agent Douchebag claims he has a lead on finding Paddy Doyle, he made a smart ass remark about not needing help because he's better at trailing someone. So guess who I'm going to be trailing. You sure lucked out with Maura, this man has absolutely lost his mind, you know he's on leave from the FBI, even living in some cheap shit apartment complex. He is pretty set on finding Paddy and taking him down. I wasn't going to tell you but you should know. Don't fret though, I have this covered, no other developments yet he's just sitting in his apartment. What a sad sack, right? Bye."
She ran a hand through her hair, jumping slightly when Maura came up behind her. "Shit Maura. I thought you were still sleeping."
"I felt you get up, you're not the only one who hears shuffling at night. Is everything alright, you look tense, I can give you a massage before we have to leave."
Jane shook her head, "There won't be time for a massage. Camille got a letter from her stalker wanting to meet up with her Monday night, I have to call her back later, and then Crowe called to tell me that Gabriel thinks he has a lead on Paddy. So I guess I should tell you when we go to London we're actually meeting up with Paddy and we have to convince to come back to Boston with us. I was contemplating it at first but if he is trying to find your father Paddy's best bet is to go back to jail that way Paddy doesn't end up dead. Convincing him might be hard but I'm sure we can find a way," she rubbed the back of her neck. "You know forget what I said, a massage sounds like a good idea."
"That's a lot of weight on your shoulders Jane, I don't know how you can be you sometimes," Maura took Jane's hand and walked her back to bed.
"I don't know how I've managed being me this long," she sighed, laying down as Maura assumed her position to straddle Jane as she massaged her shoulders. "I have you though, so that definitely helps."
"I did quite enjoyed the calm and relaxed Jane I got to have on this trip, hate seeing you get all tensed up. Hopefully when this all gets taken care of we will get to enjoy that side of you again," she couldn't help but sigh, she hated how all good things seem to come to an end, this vacation included. "I kind of don't want to go back."
"Oh trust me Maura, I don't want to go back either, I don't think I'd mind living in Paris, maybe even London."
"Maybe we can plan for that once we retire, travel through Europe, enjoying each other's company, trying all kinds of food. I bet you'd love Italy," Maura smiled, feeling Jane become more relaxed and enjoying talking about plans of the future.
"You know if we went to live in Italy I have a feeling Ma would want to join us, probably want us to let her live in our den."
"Way to kill the mood Jane," Maura laughed.
"Yeah, we can definitely go visit Italy but living there wouldn't be an option. I like the idea of traveling with you and those refined tastes of yours. Plus if we had any kids they'd all be grown up the time we retire."
"Are you feeling better now?"
"Yeah Maura, actually I am, and ready to take on the day," Jane felt Maura get off of her before she got up as well. "I guess we should finish getting packed up."
"I'm already a step ahead of you, I got about an hour's sleep before waking up and I finished packing for us already. We're pretty much ready to walk out of the door."
"So, what you're saying is we have a few minutes to spare?" Jane asked with a smirk and Maura nodded.
"Yeah, but you should probably change out of your pajamas first," she looked at her appearance.
"Good idea, I didn't even noticed you were dressed for the day."
"Well it is only a little after 6, I guess your detective skills aren't up to par until later in the day," Maura smiled causing Jane to roll her eyes.
"It isn't polite to tease your wife, you know?"
"Oh don't sound so upset, you love when I tease you," Maura winked, stepping closer and let her hand slightly graze against Jane's crotch causing Jane to groan.
"Don't start something if you don't plan to deliver," she gave Maura a look of amusement.
"Get changed and then I can deliver."
"What's the point of changing outfits when you plan to deliver?"
"Do you really want to argue with me?" Maura put her hands on her hips.
"No, that's a fight I'm probably going to lose," Jane shook her head.
"The clothes I picked out for you to wear are in the bathroom, I'll wait right here until you get out," Maura went to go sit on the bed to wait for Jane to change. Glad she could help make Jane's stressful morning not so stressful.
It was a little after midnight, Tommy was at the Dirty Robber and Korsak had left knowing that he could keep Tommy in charge the last hour to clean up and lock up. He was about to start cleaning the tables when Cailin came in.
"Oh hey Cailin, I wasn't expecting to see you here."
"Well my mother was driving me crazy and you're a good buffer for my frustrations," she sat down at the bar. "So, you busy when you get off?"
"Actually I have a house guest over for a couple of days. What did you have in mind?" he asked, curiously as he slid her her favorite beverage.
"Oh, never mind then, I was just hoping we could do stuff," she shrugged. "But if you can't that's okay..."
"I mean I could but she's going to be sleeping on the couch."
"She?" Cailin frowned, taking a sip of her beverage.
"Yeah, but it doesn't mean anything, I swear. Look I like this week I've spent with you, you're the only girl I am interested in I swear. Plus you met Lydia, she's a mess."
"You don't have to defend your own honor Tommy, if you want to see other people it's not like we made plans to be exclusive we both still have a lot to work on before we get there. If I'm being honest I have sort of been missing Camille and want to at least get our friendship back on track before becoming involved more with you, plus Jane will threaten you if you date me and we already know how she acted when you were with Frost."
"Yeah I felt like I could never be happy. Plus who knows how Maura would take the news, they seem to agree with each other all the time now Jane and your sister. Do you want to get back together with Camille or just have a friendship?" Tommy had to ask.
"She means a lot to me sure, but I'm nowhere near ready to be a mother and I know if we don't want the same thing then there's no point, right? Plus you don't want kids."
Tommy nodded, "That I don't, I'm not sure I could handle having any children, me still sort of being one myself."
Cailin laughed, "Yeah you may be onto something. So, if I did come over you think Lydia would mind? Because I'm not into threesomes."
"Yeah, me either, trust me the only girl I want to be with in that way is you, I hate threesomes they seem so meaningless," Tommy started to wipe down the counter.
"So, are you wanting to sleep with me?" Cailin asked.
"I mean uh. I honestly never thought about it since we agreed not to go that far."
"But if I was willing, would you?"
Tommy just looked at her, "What happened with you and your mom that made you come here?"
Cailin swirled her drink around in the mug, "We got into an argument, she seen you drop me off yesterday and she honestly didn't enjoy seeing me with you. She really liked Camille and doesn't approve on my new 'choice of mate'. Her words not mine, and it's just frustrating that she won't let me make my own decisions. I should be able to do what I want, even if what I'm craving is you. Just making out isn't enough anymore."
"You're not just saying this to spite your mother, are you?"
"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not, but when we make out I can tell that it's what you want. We both want it and it's about time we just go for it, wouldn't you say?" she finished off her drink and Tommy was at a loss of words.
"I um... I don't know what to say," he rubbed the back of his neck. "I do want you Cailin, I guess the evidence is already there, or maybe I'm just a real horny person. I want to treat you right though."
"You will treat me right, I believe in you Tommy. You can decide whatever you want to do, but mind if I stay here until you get off of work."
"Yeah I don't mind, I'm just going to be cleaning up, it's pretty dead here."
Cailin nodded, "May I just have water this time?"
"Of course," Tommy smiled and handed her a water before starting to finish the cleaning up that he had to do.
It took several hours for the train to get to London, it was about lunchtime when Jane and Maura got off the train, they had to get a cab to take them to the hotel closer to the airport. They found something to eat when they arrived to their destination. Jane was able to contact Paddy who arrived to London the day before, he would meet up with them after they had their lunch. Paddy Doyle had really been enjoying his travels throughout the week, when Jane asked him to meet them in London he happily obliged, wanting nothing more than to see his daughter again. He was definitely going to be surprised at what Jane was going to ask of him. Jane was sort of scared about his reaction, but he'd do anything for Maura, she hoped this would be under the anything category.
"Jane I wish you didn't seem so anxious, I'm sure that it's going to be alright," Maura mentioned, noticing that Jane wasn't eating her sandwich.
"Is it though Maura, we're going to ask him to voluntarily go back to prison I just don't see that ending well."
"If it means he's safe from Agent Dean, I'm sure he'll consider it," she reached over to take Jane's hand in hers.
"I doubt that he's scared of Gabriel."
"Can we not call him that please? I prefer what Crowe called him in the voicemail you let me listen to... what was it, Agent Douchebag."
Jane smirked, "You have become quite vulgar there babe, but yeah Agent Douchebag will definitely suffice."
"Maybe Paddy can help take him down, so maybe he might be willing to come with us. Should we hide that we want him to go back to prison, that might work out better. Plus doesn't Camille need help with her stalker? He can help with both problems," Maura suggested and Jane stared at her in surprise.
"Maura, I'm shocked you would come up with something like that. It's quite devious of you."
"I've learned from the best," Maura smiled, "Now please eat your sandwich."
"I'm not sure we could pull off lying to him, I mean, I know you can't, unfortunately."
"It wouldn't be a lie if we actually let him help, I mean if he's helpful won't he get less time?" she asked and Jane shook her head.
"He escaped out of jail and faked his own death, I don't think he'll be getting out of prison once he goes back," she finally took a bite of her sandwich before pushing it away, causing Maura to frown.
"I have never once seen you deny yourself food, this is really bothering you, isn't it?"
"Let's just get Paddy to agree with our plan and then maybe my stomach would be more settled. He should be arriving soon, we should get back to the hotel," she waved over to the waitress. "Can I get this to go, and we're ready for the check."
"Of course," she smiled before walking off. The waitress came back moments later.
Soon Jane and Maura headed back to their hotel and waited for Paddy to arrive, it wasn't time to call Camille yet, it was still pretty early in Boston maybe it'd be easier to figure out once her and Maura tried to convince Paddy to go back to the states. Jane decided on trying Maura's approach, she grew quite doubtful that he'd willingly go to Boston knowing they wanted him back in prison. She thought Maura was really wise for that idea.
Eventually he showed up, knocking on their door which Jane let Maura answer. "It's good to see you again after such a short amount of time Maura," he greeted her with a side hug before glancing over at Jane. "I take it this meeting is more business than pleasure."
"How can you tell?"
"Our mutual friend has abandoned me the moment an Agent Gabriel Dean got in contact with him. There's nothing I hate more than a dirty cop."
"I wasn't aware that you already knew he was looking for you. How did Agent Dean find out who our mutual contact was," Jane asked and Paddy looked at her with a frown.
"He got into all of your information Jane, he found a way, whatever way. The agent has lost his mind obsessed over finding me, and he's willing to hurt you in the process," he looked to her, as Jane sat down next to Maura who had already taken a seat. "That's why I'm here right because you want to convince me to come to Boston with you."
Jane looked at Maura before nodding, "Yeah, that's right."
Paddy nodded, "I would love to get rid of that asshole once and for all."
"We're not talking about murder, are we?" Jane asked and Paddy just stared at her.
"You do plan to kill whoever comes in your way when it comes to my daughter though, right?"
"I never plan to kill anybody. But I'd do anything to keep Maura safe from any harm."
"So, you may not like my approach but last time we met up to save Maura your words were as I recall, whatever it takes, and I think it applies here too since Maura is part of me."
Jane sighed and looked at the two before nodding, "Alright, we'll get rid of Agent Dean once and for all." She wouldn't dare challenge Paddy Doyle, plus Gabriel Dean was already dead to her.
Cailin went to Jane and Maura's in the morning, she had to talk to Camille and try and get their friendship back, she missed their conversations and connection. She rang the bell and Camille answered the door.
"I... Cailin, what are you doing here?" she asked pulling her inside immediately.
"I wanted to talk, the last time we did, it didn't exactly go so well."
"I do think that we should talk, the kids went to the zoo with Korsak and Angela. I've been cleaning up around the house and preparing it so Maura and Jane don't come home to a mess. Did you want to sit?"
Cailin shook her head, "No, it shouldn't take long."
"I'll sit then, go on?" Camille decided to sit down.
"I've been missing you this past week, I miss the way things used to be."
"As friends or more than friends?"
"I miss our friendship," Cailin frowned, "I always felt like I could talk to you about anything, you're my best friend, you know. We both sort of overreacted the last time we talked and I wanted to apologize for that."
"All is forgiven. I miss us as the more than friends part, we had high hopes for our future, but I know you already moved on."
Cailin decided to sit down now, "How do you know this?"
"Don't be mad but your mother called me and we got into talking. She didn't quite like you kissing Jane's brother. I must admit that I don't like him for you, I wish that there could be an us, but I understand that you aren't ready to be a mom."
"Yeah, I just don't think I'm fit to be a mother, I see Jane and Maura help with your kids and they seem like naturals. I know it's a learning experience but I feel like I don't fit."
"There's also other things going on in my life that maybe I don't need a relationship."
"What kind of stuff?"
"Stuff that I only want to discuss with a small amount of people, it's best if not a lot of people know."
Cailin reached over to take Camille's hand, "You trust me though right? I have no one to tell any secrets to, most things I keep to myself. We used to be able to swap secrets before. First step to getting back to our friendship."
Camille squeezed her hand, "That makes sense, you go first."
"Okay well, I want to be completely honest with you, what I have to say might hurt your feelings a little bit."
"The feeling is mutual with what I have to tell you, I'm prepared."
"Last night I almost made a mistake, I almost slept with Tommy. I couldn't go through with it. I felt guilty about being at odds with you, and I really wanted to sleep with him, but I couldn't get you out of my mind. I didn't realize how much I've missed our friendship. I don't want to move on until I know that we are okay."
Camille stared at her, confused of her own feelings, wanting nothing more than to claim Cailin as her own, but that felt all kinds of wrong to her. She was her own person and Hope was already trying to be in charge of her daughter's life, she didn't want Cailin to feel overwhelmed, but the news she promised to share would probably upset the girl. "I oh... well I appreciate you for being honest with me. We are fine Cai, I promise. I should be honest with you now."
Cailin nodded, "I'm glad that we are okay, it makes me feel better. Go ahead."
"Well it's not exactly easy to tell you..." she started only to be interrupted by her cellphone. "I think that's Jane, I left her a message to call me back, this is important, you mind?"
"Not at all, go ahead I'll start giving the living room a good cleaning," Cailin smiled as Camille went into the kitchen and picked up the phone.
"Hey Camille, it's me Jane, calling from another phone. Are you busy?"
"No, but I'm glad you've called me back, I've been thinking about this all day, what I wanted to do and wanted to say. And to be honest Jane, the message I left wasn't the whole story. I sort of went behind your wishes of not trusting Gabriel, I told him about my stalker and he chose that he would go instead of me to the address and he wanted me to convince you to go check out the situation. He knows about Paddy and I'm pretty sure he's going to choose to ambush you guys if you get there. I'm sorry I didn't listen to your warning about Gabriel, he's a smooth talker and I kind of got under his gaze a little bit," she ranted, finally taking a pause, almost in tears.
"Woah, slow down there Camille. I can't believe you didn't listen to me, but that's the least of our worries right now. We've kind of been planning to take down that bastard. I don't like that you're being stalked or that your life may be in danger I do think that it's a good idea to not go to the address, let Gabriel go, maybe your stalker can take care of him and he wouldn't be a problem, then we come and finish the rest, I'll arrest him so he can't hurt you. Then we'll have dealt with two bastards at the same time."
Camille listened to Jane and sort of felt relieved for her plan. "That sounds like a smart idea. It's no wonder why you are the detective. He did threaten if someone else showed up that he'd harm me, he even said I'll never see my kids again. I care about their lives more than my own. Maybe I should just go and you hide outside or something, what can go wr-..."
Jane interrupted, "Please do not say that phrase, something wrong always happens when that is spoken. Trust me on that. You and the twins can stay somewhere else safe so you won't need to worry. He isn't going to be anywhere close to you or your twins, I can't discuss addresses but you know where you can feel the safest, right?"
"Yeah, I know where I can stay, somewhere that he wouldn't even know where to look. Maybe somewhere even you don't know where I'm at? Just in case..."
"That sounds best. We'll get this guy. I promise."
"Alright. I'll stay as safe as I can. I love you and Maura and so grateful for what you're willing to do for us. I definitely owe you one."
"Don't you worry about it, I'll do absolutely anything to protect my family. You are deemed a Rizzoli kid, you and the twins. Don't you forget it."
"I'll never forget that, it's kind of you to say. I'm so glad that my kids have someone they can turn to in a time of need. Have a good day Jane and I hope you get those bastards tomorrow."
"We will, stay safe out there. Love ya kid, see you when all of this is over."
"I'll hold you to it, bye," she replied before hanging up the phone. Camille didn't realize that Cailin had entered the kitchen.
"What bastards?"
Camille almost jumped at the sound of her voice before turning to her. "I have a favor to ask, after I tell you all about what's going on."
"Of course, I'll do anything to help out a friend." Cailin would keep that promise.
The next evening came filled with anxiety and anticipation, Jane, Maura and Paddy exited the airport. Jane had called Frankie earlier to ask him to drop her car off at the airport with a couple of things they needed for their operation. Underneath the backseat was a box that held Jane's two service weapons and in the trunk there were three bullet proof vests one for the each of them. Jane had to try and convince Maura to not go in after them but to wear a vest just in case something went really wrong.
They headed to their location, the one Camille had sent Jane, she parked about a block away and waited, Jane wanted to go over the plans one more time.
"Okay so both of you remember the plan, I'll go in there first, Paddy you'll wait about five minutes before coming in. Maura, you will stay in the car and I'll keep the second gun here just in case and only for an emergency should you use it, alright?"
"Jane, I really think I could help better in there with you." Maura looked at her wife, silently begging her to let her help.
Before Jane could respond Paddy did for her, "He will kill you the first chance he gets, we know how far he's willing to go, it'll be safe if you stayed in the car."
"And what if he tries to kill Jane?" she asked and Jane was the one to answer.
"Detective Crowe said he's trailing the bastard so I'm positive that he will be here, probably hidden waiting to be backup in case something goes wrong."
"Jane, I still don't think..." Maura tried to talk but Paddy gave her a glance. "Jane, I love you and I know you want to protect me, but it's my right to protect you as well. Can't I just wait in the shadows he won't see me I promise. I don't want you to go in without me."
"Maura, I can't let you get in harm's way, you'll be safe in the car."
"But you'll be in harm's way, you're giving me a gun and I'll be wearing a vest..." Maura had tears in her eyes. Jane's alarm went off and it was now 8 PM when Camille's stalker was supposed to show up, Gabriel Dean and Detective Crowe were probably both in the building somewhere.
"Maura, I'm going to be alright," Jane had tears in her eyes as well. "I've made it out of worse situations before, I swear it's going to go fine," she leaned over and gave her wife a kiss. "I love you Maura... but I have to go, soon this will all be over and that douchebag will be gone," she slipped out of the car, giving them one last glance, turning to Paddy he gave her a nod and Jane knew that Maura would be safest here.
Jane slowly walked to the building and entered, she looked around, searching for Gabriel Dean. This brought her back to memories over a year ago when things went horribly wrong and she almost lost Maura forever. She looked around until she seen Gabriel in the shadows, he came out looking pleased, but irritated that he couldn't see Paddy Doyle anywhere.
"Where is he, Jane?" he glared at her, gun raised.
"Where is Camille's stalker?" Jane also raised her gun.
"When I got here there was no one else around, maybe the bastard gave up," he stepped closer. "Where the hell is Paddy Doyle?"
"You look like hell I might add, having an obsession ruins you, you know. It could get you killed."
"The only thing that ruined me is you. How could you just let her slip into your life, I heard you got married. We could have had that you know, but no... you wanted that little whore Maura, she's probably got around more than you ever did in your whole life."
Jane put her finger on the trigger, ready to shoot if she needed to, "Don't you dare talk about her like that, she has more class than you have brains. This shit isn't about Paddy at all, it's about me choosing someone who wasn't you, bet that tore you apart and now you want revenge. You need to give it up Gabriel, there's nothing left for you here, I wasn't yours in the first place, what about that don't you understand?"
"Her father is a murderer, and she slices through dead people for a living, it's just not meant to be," Gabriel spoke lowly. "Give me Paddy."
Jane stepped closer to him, but not too close, "You're fuckin' psychotic, you know that. You're nowhere near being a special agent, you are just a lousy piece of shit who can't take no for an answer."
"I'm a man who knows what I want, and I want to make you suffer any way possible," he stepped closer, he heard footsteps and glanced behind Jane's shoulder seeing Paddy Doyle appear.
"That's enough now Agent Dean, never knew a man could sound so pathetic," he shook his head, as he stepped behind Jane.
"Paddy Doyle, the man I was hoping I'd see, although you look a little different, but I know it's you," he tried to aim the gun at Paddy, but Jane was blocking him. "Jane, now's the time to move out of the way, unless you want Maura to lose both things she loves. You got five seconds to make a decision, choose wisely, I would love to live and see Maura struggling to live without you both around, I'd give her five seconds before she off herself, or I could torture her and make it much more painful..."
"You talk too damn much..." Jane snarled at him and he just chuckled.
"Your five seconds are up," the moment Gabriel's finger pulled the trigger, Jane did as well, he shot Jane in the shoulder and he got hit in the leg, then three more shots were fired from the shadows and Gabriel Dean's body landed on the floor within another second.
Jane held her shoulder, groaning in pain, she looked over and seen both Maura and Crowe lowering their guns. Maura rushed over to Jane and Crowe went to check Gabriel's body for a pulse.
"Jane, are you okay?" Maura asked and she nodded.
"Just hurt like a bitch," Jane felt the warmth of her blood looking at Crowe. "Is he dead?"
Crowe looked up at Jane and nodded, "He's dead alright, I'm uncertain which one of us took the kill shot. The son of a bitch is dead though," he glanced around, "Where the hell did Paddy go?" he asked, before calling an ambulance so the paramedics could patch up Jane and then some police officers to the building where they would inspect the scene.
Jane cursed, "That bastard ran off, Maura, are you going to be alright if you, if you were the one to... you should have stayed in the car."
"Jane, I wanted to, I swear... when you left I got a phone call from Cailin... it just... it set me off. I also seen Crowe and thought I would stand beside him, I wanted to know that you were safe."
"What did Cailin call about?" Jane asked as she heard sirens in the background.
"I, it's about Camille..." Maura frowned, tears in her eyes. "Hope and Cailin's house was the safe place her and the kids went to. There was an intruder, I suspect it was her stalker... Cailin called the ambulance once she heard a gun go off, said the kids were hiding in a closet, they are fine but... Camille... she didn't make it Jane. The ambulance tried to resuscitate her but it was too late..." Maura managed to get out and Jane just felt like collapsing on the floor, her pulse racing and the pain in her shoulder wasn't even on her mind, or the fact that Paddy Doyle had disappeared.
Everything felt like a haze, even as the paramedics bandaged and stitched her up, cleaning the blood. Jane couldn't believe what Maura told her, she didn't want to believe it. She closed her eyes and the tears fell down her face.
"Hey Maura. You two should go, I'll take it from here, you just leave the gun, I'll cover for you," Detective Crowe gave her a look and she nodded, grabbing Jane by the arm as they headed to Hope's home, not wanting any of this to be true about Camille, even though they knew it was true. Both of them had the same thought in their heads, how were Camille's kids going to be able to cope with this.
I know what I did was cruel, unfortunately my mind had her death planned for like over a month, probably like a week after I introduced Camille and her kids. I didn't have her twins momentarily kidnapped like I thought of, that would have been too much. The mind is evil sometimes, Gabriel Dean dying was needed to have something good happen. This chapter may have been a clusterfuck but I hope it was well received. The aftermath of it all might be more of a clusterfuck. We will all get through this, I promise.
